drown it in ketchup or soy/steak sauce really good!

Every Chinese restaurant offers this as an option, but basically none of them (certainly none I've ever seen) do this by default.
It's on the menu so that if you're taking your fussy eater child with you you can get them something you know they'll eat. It has simple seasoning and is vegan and gluten-free and whatever else, so anyone can eat it.

The chips were there first, when the chinese immigrants first came they took over chip shops and applied chinese cuisine to the chip shop format.
You have to understand when you think about how bad british food is, that we were the first to industrialise. That means tinned food and potato. Orwel said "We may find in the long run that tinned food is a deadlier weapon than the machine gun".
As a brit however i maintain we have the best food in the world quality wise, we may be retarded now due to the industrialisation in our relationship with cuisine, but our beef, our lamb, our cheese, eggs, veg, whatever it is, is world class in quality. We prefer simple meals and if thats a good spud fried with some chinese slop on top then thats good enough for me.
(however i try not to eat the chinese slop because im allergic to MSG)
