Can I find Jewish delis in Europe? 02/02/26(Mon)11:45:10 No.21863808 I've been looking at Katz's instagram a lot lately and now I want to try this type of food but I'm unsure if it even exists outside of USA :/ Also wondering about Jewish restaurants in general are they even a thing with all of the antisemites/muslims in EU cities?

This is the thing I was wondering about actually. I live near a city that still has a sizeable Jewish population and I did find one grocery store and some Israeli/Moroccan restaurant which seems like a odd combination for some reason. But no actual like place serving matzo ball soup or something.

A large portion of the world's Jews (something like 1 million) are Moroccan or descended from Moroccan Jews.

Ok so I asked google and I got this: Approximately 2,000 to 2,500 Sephardic Jews live in Morocco today, primarily residing in Casablanca. This marks a significant decline from the over 250,000 residents before 1948

No, it's not like that.
It's just something that doesn't have a broad appeal.

Ok well now I know that I guess. Being a western Euro the type of food I see being served at Katz's seems very similar to something you would get here but with different meat (pastrami) and dumpling soup is very common in Germany/Austria.

This is slightly annoying.
Americans are never shy of telling us that their country is so big, same size as Europe what what they do forget is that although they may cross from one state to another, it's not just changing sales tax or red state to a blue state but in Europe, it's a whole different language, culture and food.
So if you mention "I've been to Europe" you need to be a little more specific.

This is basically rosół z knedlami and its unlikely to be offered by a restaurant because it's an unpopular dish
But you can usually get rosół z kluskami which is a similar thing with smaller dumplings

Jews were russian or polish before 1948 so it's exactly true
Yeah you're not going to get the 'israeli' food they stole from arabs but just go to an arab restaurant for that

The major cities usually have some Jewish places, there's a lot of them in Paris for sure around the 19th arrondissesment and I remember passing some Jewish butchers so they probably have delis as well.
Can't speak for the rest of Europe as I've mostly been in Western EU, in my time in France I've seen Jewish bakeries, butchers, restaurants in Paris, Toulouse and Lyon, so they exist. A lot of the food exists in similar forms but are not labelled as Jewish as well, as has been remarked on by multiple anons ITT

The ones in the Marais are holdovers from when Jews were the major players in that quartier when they had all the textile shops and thus the shops, restaurants and bakeries that went with having the Jewish community in there. All the fabric stuff is Asian business now and the Jews have either moved up north to the 19th or west to fancier neighbourhoods. My grandpa owned three apartments in the 11th and when I go to the co-owner meetings yearly now it's mostly Asians and Arabs.
If you go right to La Villette and cross the road there's a big shopping center full of Jewish shops and bakeries, still authentic because middle class Jews still live there.

Maybe I've been to more than one European country and seen that the Jewish food is similar in all of them. Regardless of your belief in the Holocaust most Jews in Europe are coming out of Israel these days, and Israel cuisine is middle eastern. The Spanish Jews have a pre-existing middle eastern style cuisine too. On the flipside American & Canadian Jewish cuisine in more deli focused.
