>My beater automatics are 10-30 seconds a day slow and I still prefer them to just wearing casios to work.
>Again, it's really not that big of a deal and I live by that statement. I'm not just being contrarian or hipster or something. This is the way watches were for the last hundred years, you'd set your watch to whatever the clock in front of the bank or post office said on your way to work and not only did your watch drift off farther and farther day by day but you didn't even know for sure how accurate the bank clock was, but it was close enough to function day to day.
disgusting

what mental condition causes you to enjoy this degree of humiliation by an industry who refuses to advance anything but its prices?

Not disgusting at all. Nor humiliating.
That's how we should all be. You want to autistically dwell on the fact that your watch is 4 seconds off, maybe you shouldn't have a watch that isn't "smart".
I have a G-Shock in my collection but I know it's 15 seconds slow and I am fine with that. I'm usually early to things. I keep my analogs all pretty close, but they drift a minute or two over a few weeks time. Eventually I correct them. But none of this "exact time" shit bothers me. It's close enough. It really is. I love the look of the watch, the feel, even the sound. I love a little ticking from a Timex, I love hearing the rotor whir on some of my autos. I love seeing the parts move through the back (or front) of the case.
The actual time is the LEAST important aspect of watch collecting to me.
And that's okay. You do your thing and I'll do mine. And in the end we'll probably both be on time.

this part is really good news:
>It is likely to kick off more sales of struggling brands by major groups amid a new era of industry deconsolidation.
imo, next Richemont should:
>sell Roger Dubuis
>stop Ralph Lauren watches, sell the IP to a lower level watch maker because they are wasting good movements and finishing on this brand and it gets rekt second hand.
>Discontinue Mont Blanc watches, just keep the brand for the pens

And for Swatch, they should sell half of their shit.
MIDO, Certina and Union absolutely add nothing to the market, weak sauce. Sell them.
Rado i don't know.
Breguet is not performing but it's too historically important to be sold, so keep it.
Just make it even more exclusive, it should be Patek level.
Once they sell all this, then clean up the Omega lineup, especially the different Speedmaster colorways.

They're thick and the movement looks very cheap. But it's a choice I guess. I feel like it's a compromise though.
>>18640088
I actually like it.
>>18640092
Spend more before.
>>
>>18640102
If you’re talking about a luxury chronograph for 12k, there’s better choices, but if you want a Type XX, then the 3800 is still the best choice. (It’s not that thick either, because the thickness included a hugely domed crystal)
Now, if it’s a luxury chronograph other than Breguet, I’d get something like the JLC Polaris Chronograph, because the cal.761 is great and makes for a thin watch.
>>
>>
>>18640095
No, I can. I just think it would be a foolish waste. And I know anyone paying that much for a watch won't even wear it more than a couple of very special occasions. And then they're sweating bullets that they might bump it against something.
That's no way to enjoy a watch. But I'm sure it makes you feel good to argue for the 1%er types you long to be. You never will.
>>
>>18640111
NTA, but, no, I wear my expensive watches as often as I can. I get no enjoyment out of them if they’re sitting in a safe. I don’t care about resale. (Otherwise I’d buy nothing but Patek and Rolex and keep them in the safe.)
If they get bumped, fine. Nothing is meant to stay perfect. My wedding ring looks like I’ve stored it in a rock tumbler but each scuff is a memory.
I think you’re only describing a small subset of people that can afford an expensive watch but can’t afford for anything to happen to it.
And even then, this is /fa/ not /biz/. If people want to spend their money on something, the only thing that matters is how fashionable it is. So relax. He’s not spending your money.
>>
>>18640068
>>18640073
I don't know if I could articulate why, but when I think of Swatch and Richemont I imagine their competition as WW2 and Swatch are the allies and Richemont are the axis powers.
>>
>>
>>
>>18640131
I dunno. I think Breguet is one of those brands where you really have to spend big money to get a decent watch. Their entry level pieces really aren’t worth it.
The Type XX is an oddball in their lineup and only exists because one of the Breguet descendants got really into aviation. (Dassault-Breguet was a company that made fighter jets) It’s not really in-line with dressy complications.

For a type xx chronograph I think there are better examples of companies making them tooly the way they were historically supposed to be. Hanhart is making them now, Airain makes them, I think Yema makes something similar in mechaquartz?

They also make $500 stabilos, which is one of the weirdest flex i can think of.

Breguet isn't even true to the original standard for the watch though. Especially if we're talking about precious metal ones. They're bigger and expensive for what's supposed to be a utilitarian mid century chronograph. The spirit of the watch is totally different. If you're going to get a type 20 you should actually get a type 20. If you want a Breguet there are a dozen watches that are better examples of what Breguet is about, get something porcelain or guilloche'd or skeletonized or crazy complication or some shit.

>Contrarian
My nigga being pro-hitler has become so mainstream that, not only hast the entire shock value been lost, it's considered edgy to be against it.
I've been looking for the next thing to hate to be contrarian because everyone openly hates the jews and says that the Austrian painter was right. Well everyone except a few specific states and white women
>>
>>18640179
I don't know how people try to argue with a straight face "no, we don't hate Jews, we hate Zionists."
Yeah, and who are the Zionists again? It's the most transparent, gayest cope I've ever heard in politics.
>>
>>18640178
The key is not how much you make, but how much you're left with.
If you can somehow still manage it by some sort of miracle to go and live with your parents again, and save up 80% of your income, then in 3 years time you're already very well off. I invested everything (everything) the oast 7 years or so in Gold and Silver. Turned out it was the 2nd best choice. Now I'm investing in stocks and some crypto.
If you're too scared to do anything with your money, then let it sit in the bank at 4% APY
In 10 years that's also going to accumulate somewhat.
Go live with your parents, invest 80% of your income in ETFs and or precious metals, and like I said in 3 years you should be close to 6 figures in savings.
After that it's getting easier but you're not "there" yet.
The trick is to be able to survive on the dividend alone. Which I guess should be possible with 300K. Which is a lot of money yes but not impossible.
If you're already in your 30s then maybe it's a bit too late so, there's another way... Are you tall? You should looks max, work out a ton, find a rich milfy in some Asian country --
There are many ways to become rich man.
>>
>>18640183
well, the machine has been able to damage control it to that point at least "not the Jews but the Zionists!"
Which is good on them I guess. The cattle are still 80% +
Don't forget that. The same people who got injected because the government told them so, are the same people that say the bullshit above. It is what it is.
>>
>>18640179
You're living in a fucking bubble, dude. It's not mainstream or acceptable ANYWHERE to be "pro-hitler". You've spent entirely too much time online if you think that's the case.
And if you think even entire red states agree with you they don't. I'm not sure where anyone reduced everything down to two simple sides, and then further determined that people on "the right" are down with fascism and Nazis.
None of it lines up and it all contradicts itself. Nazis we're extreme "left". And Trump supports Israel and all things Jewish. His son in law is Jewish. You think Texas is full of Nazis? You're a fucking idiot, anon. And if you went out into the real world and spoke to real Americans you'd know that to be true.
Nameless social media accounts are not real and they don't represent anyone. It will NEVER be permissible in society to be down with Nazis. There are no elected leaders who are sympathetic. So who represents you? No one.
Not one of you fucking chuds has the sack to put your name and photo with your opinion that "Hitler was maybe on to something."
You fucking people make me sick.
>>
>>18640184
I don't like the idea of trying to live off of dividends only because the volume of money you need for that is over the $250k FDIC caps for the banking institutions, so you have to fuck around with having your money spread out across multiple banking institutions.
>>
>>18640192
I respectfully disagree. I don't know about big cities and states and I don't care. Those people are lost anyway. All vaxxed cattle.
And there are hundreds of people with millions and millions of views and reach that are openly saying that about jews and saying that Hitler was cool etc.
You're probably an American living in a big city so you're the one living in a bubble. Go to Europe, Africa, Asia and talk there to non-white people. White people have the "cuck" gene in them aka the pathological altruism disease so they can't think straight afer 2 generations of brainwashing. But other people still see things the way they are.
>>
>>
>>
>>18640194
Name one public person with "millions of views and reach" who has ever said "Hitler was cool".
I dare you.
I live about 80 miles outside Seattle in a rural area that votes red like retards. None of those MAGAfags support Hitler.
And I don't understand this argument that since other races are purported to be racist that it means I should be too. It's wrong. Those people are ignorant. That hatred is not rational by any means. Even if 1,000 Nigerians attack and destroy my house, I will not tomorrow hate a Nigerian I meet. That's how it works.
Anyone doing anything else is simply not as evolved or advanced as we are.

Anyone else notice how the quality of these threads dropped by a large margin ever since whoretadello left?
We used to joke /wt/ stands for whoretadello's thread, but little did we know that actually was the case. In the good old days whoretadello and other avatarfrens discussed watches and made fun, quality posts in harmony with regular users. /wt/ actually was a comfy and meaningful place with its own identity.
All this eventually turned to shit when bittercel started his relentless smear campaign. I suppose the only actual reason for that was his jealousy of whoretadello's wealth and social relationships. His mind turned his hard earned wealth into "tax fraud, inheritance money and liquidating his entire networth" and his relationships became nothing more than prostitution and human trafficking.
I am sad that he left, but I understand his reasons. Eventually the smear would've gotten to him and affect his cheerful view of life in general. He did the right thing seeking better, more successful people and I don't blame him.
I guess all good things come to an end and I want to thank you for the good times we had, in whoretadello's thread.

Have you heard of the notiong of "Mono no Aware"? It is a concept that most westerners will often fail to grasp, a reference to an impermanance they do not like to admit and a spirituality of the material that goes against their sense of importance. The concept is something most are not epistemologically and conceptually equipped to understand. It is reassuring, when confronted to the notion, to simply assimilate it to religion or superstition. That is a very simple way of confronting it without needing to admit that some things exist that you cannot properly conceive, or that some do not exist when you consider them paramount to your sense of possibility within existance and existence. Mono no Awake is something that you cannot comprehend without dismissing its reality.
Similarly, Bittercel does not exist.
Bittercel is not a person. Bittercel is a defensive response, it is the spirit of 4chan is it is intended to exist and act reacting against its own redditification at the hands of forumfags, redditors and discord degenerates. It is a rejection - clear and simple - of those who wish to twist it into their own form. It is gatekeeping and it is necessary.
To the quasi-tripfag, Bittercel has to be a single person they can confront and hopefully "chase off". Bittercel being anything else would invalidate their core idea that their attitude is not welcome and even antithetical to the core of this very place.
Bittercel is the spirit of discussion wishing to exist for its own sake, of thought experiments, of the confrontation of equals in mind as opposed to personalities imposing themselves in a place where they do not belong.
Bittercel is vital.
Bittercel is all of us and none of you.
And Bittercel should be more of us until the putrid de-facto tripfags are booted off of our inner sanctum.

Holy shit, never mind that site. I went to get this for my dear old mom for her walks, and $55 ballooned to $91 by the time I got to checkout. All sorts of fees and shipping and US taxes? That must be these tariffs I'm reading so much about. I guess all that's just baked into the prices on Ali and elsewhere, because the prices don't sting like this. I obviously did not pay that much for that beige watch.
It was just going to be a test buy to see how they did. I'll find something better somewhere else. Probably Amazon for a Casio.

It's 39mm actually, and contains the Miyota 8215, which I love because it's perfectly balanced and the rotor spins a long time. I have those other movements in other watches but I didn't upgrade for that field watch. The 8215 also powers my new TV dial Timex, and is one of the reasons I love it so much.
I've seen people complain about hearing the rotor like it's a bug, but I don't see it that way at all.

I'm not complaining. It will last a lot longer as you're never really bending anything or dragging it through the clasp. Quite ingenious. I really feel I should have known every last detail of a watch that spendy before buying it though. Lousy research on my part.

I know more about watches than you. I've been behind the scenes at the headquarters of some of the most exclusive, luxurious, elite watchmakers imaginable. You'd shit your pants if you so much as even BREATHED at the price of the watches I've personally been privy to inspecting, examining, certifying, and owning.
Recognize your betters. You'll go far in life. Until then? Don't trifle with me, kid.

Actually, I'm white; and I only wear "Citizen Promaster" powered by advanced solar-cell technology. I don't know why you're going on about judaism. Are you perhaps a hebrew? It would explain your short, coarse, animal like arm hair - and insufferable, juvenile personality.
You see, I've owned and sold more watches then you could possibly hope to buy on your benefits card - that makes me not only an informed buyer, but an expert in the subject.
Take note of the precision, tool grade titanium on my "Citizen Promaster"; I knew buying this time-piece on discount was smart move. With full box and papers, its value would only increase after it was discontinued; and by my wearing it, my personal reputation and status would only add to its provenance.
I pay in full, in person, at an authorized dealer; ensuring I get a quality product.
I would never buy a time-piece on a shady platform like "Aliexpress"; or support international freemasonry in any way.
Maybe you should take a long look at yourself, and think about making better decisions with your money - and your mouth, before someone - like me - decides you need to take a nap.
Citizen Promaster Owner, Outdoorsman.

I've been moving towards Eco Drive for all my watches because I have a schedule at work that is precise while also traveling frequently.
And Citizen has great automatic dive watches that are a hell of a better spec'd from Seiko and much cheaper.

Ultrachron is moderately iconic.
>>
>>18640996
nah, for it to be iconic even normie have to know the design (even if they can't name it).
A flutted bezel Rolex datejust is iconic.
A casio F91 is iconic.
A B-hur pilot (IWC or other brand) is iconic.
A Hamilton Khaki field is iconic (because of the war in Vietnam).

It's an awesome watch and at some point one day I'll probaby get one, but nothing about it is iconic for the brand. It's a design very emblematic of mid century watches, but nobody's like "omg they brought back the LEGENDARY ULTRACHRON."

The one citizen cross promotion watch I've seen that I think actually works is the captain america small seconds military field watch style thing. It's bigger than it should be to actually replicate the period they're going for but it makes sense for the character and also it's possible that for the briefest split second someone looking at it might not realize you're wearing a cartoon character watch.

If you don't mind waiting a month of two and probably having to pay import taxes, Etsy sellers from Vietnam offer the best value and they're made to order so you can customize quite a bit
If you want something simpler, Delugs is very good quality
Alligator is the most expensive leather so don't cheap out, embossed calf skin made to look like gator is gay as fuck, if you want something cheaper get another leather type altogether

Thanks for remimding me that I should buy a bunch of croc leather straps when I get the chance.
This year I am travelling again to the country of my wife's origin, and they do sell croc leather insanely cheap over there. Random local guy who doesn't even sell online will always have the best prices, plus no shipping, customs, vat, nothing.
I don't even have the right watch to use it on rn, but the straps can patiently wait in the closet if necessary.

First of all, don't buy cheap Chinese watches. They're never good. BUT, if you absolutely insist on buying one stay away from anything with a cyclops. I have never, ever, even one time seen a cheap watch get a magnifier right, they are always blurry and glarey and shitty.

Those are sweet. They have all nice specs PLUS fucking Indiglo, so the best of both worlds.
41mm is a touch large for my taste, but that is a handsome watch. Brand logo shit usually disgusts me but that old Pan-Am logo is kinda classy and it works. If it came in 39mm or under I'd for sure get one.
>>
>>
>>18641320
Those are really nice. I've been meaning to get one of the "nice shitters" like San Martin or Octopus or Proxima. 36mm for that style is perfect I think.
Those are getting great reviews. Chinese watches haven't sucked for a while. Just spend over $40 and you're usually fine.

I don't know how old it is (I don't know anything about watches) or if it even works since I don't have a battery for it at the moment.
I salvaged it from a recycling center, a couple of watches come through there every week that I take home. They would get destroyed otherwise.
People throw away some interesting stuff sometimes and the watches especially tend to be perfectly functional if you just replace the battery.

I like the Casio but I gotta get a wrist strap for it.
That silly My Little Pony watch I posted earlier isn't the first mechanical watch I've found, just the first one that works.
I like the sound it makes.
>>
>>18641552
I liked the stars, I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't remove all the other stuff too. And the text could've been red/gold or something. Or at least different font weights. This feels like a Chinaman wrote it.

The TI is based, I have one myself in gold. Found a NOS one with a broken module that I replaced. FYI the wirebonds and not protected so if the battery has leaked it kills the watch.
>>
>>18642103
No. But it's a Hasbro promotional watch made of plastic with a paper dial. For My Little Pony. If it's mechanical than some faggot pedo Brony with too much time and money has created the most hilarious mod job ever.
I usually take people at their word but just look at that fucking watch. Who'd put a mechanical in a housing that cheap and tacky? Then again, 1983 puts it right at a time when maybe it still was cheaper than quartz. Any later and a watch like that would surely be a cheap digital.
Fuck, maybe it is a hand-wind. I've been seeing some pretty great new $25 hand-winds lately.

That week thing I'm sure is supposed to be impressive, but it just ruins the symmetry for me. Same as the Grand Seikos with that power reserve meter on the dial. If they ever figure out a way to hide that somewhere else or design it in a way that blends in better I'm interested.
