Traps make your frame look narrower. You should train them because leaving body parts untrained is retarded, but it's not a muscle you want to max out. Same as obliques and adductors.

bench pecs on the other hand injured in the sternal area cause pecs can't work with retracted shoulders necessary for bench will be stiff pulling thoracic spine into permanent flexion and rounding shoulders effectively making u look like you're pec-less apart from being very unhealthy and useless functionally
