Anons, what’s the consensus on boxing? Does it build muscle or is it functionally just cardio?

Cardio 1000%

Bare Knuckle Boxing is King and is superior in every way to queensbury rules

Decca heggie vs danny christie is better than any gloved boxing fight

I went to a boxing gym and outlifted every single dude in there. Couldn't run as far or as fast as them tho. Boxers only train endurance and technical skill

There are many types of gyms where you go with older women and hit a heavy bag. Those types of gyms are just straight up cardio. Of course, your striking will improve, but you will not really know how to deal with another person. I think your shoulder strength will get better as keeping your hands up for such a long time is difficult, and also your core strength if they have you doing core exercises, but that is it.

In highschool, I used to "train" at one of these gyms and ngl, it did help with my running as my cardio was better and also, my arm strength allowed me to better move my body as I ran, but that was it.

I think if you picture a boxer with huge arms, those people are also doing strength training as well.

If you want to actually know how to fight someone, an MMA gym is going to be vastly superior. But even then, you won't really get stronger without resistance training. Maybe if you also do BJJ, you will get some marginal gains, but you will find a lot of people who do BJJ are DYELs or old men with dad strength.

If you truly want to gain strength, you need to do resistance training in lieu of boxing or whatever.

bare knuckle boxing is for boxing rejects. The whole point of boxing gloves is so they can beat the shit out of each other for longer without the fight stopping due to cuts or broken hands.
>>
>>77058414
That makes sense, I guess along with training to get your cardio up, it’s reasonable to want to be a smaller guy while boxing for agility, being a smaller target, etc.
>>
>>77058395
These guys are obviously all faggots.
>>
>>77058428
lol no. You want to be as big as reasonable, hence weight classes for a semblance of fairness

I've never been leaner in my life when I did boxing
>>
It's not cardio, it's HIIT. Which means it is very good for fat loss and longevity
>>
>>77058865
Hiit is a form of cardio retard friendo

I enjoy it
The gf says I'm more muscular after having got back into it a few months ago, not sure that's true though, maybe I've leaned out a little
I wouldn't say picrel was dyel, of course he lifts too, but the point is that boxing doesn't mean you can't lift and grow if you want
>>77058395
These guys are boxing under queensbury rules though, just sans gloves
They're even breaking the clinches lol
Go look up london prize ring rules, or broughton's rules, these were what bareknuckle boxing was
Imho boxing would be improved with freer clinch rules, to permit holding and hitting (as bkfc does)
I saw a guy at my gym drilling inside work where his padman's arm was entangled over him, even in the amateurs there's some scope for creative clinching, just limited
>>
>>77058402
Lifting doesn't really do much for striking power, at least for the effort that it takes to grow your lifts

Better to learn better punching form to bring more bodyweight into your punches and increasing punching speed.

They are given a lot of explosive drills though, specially the lower weights and the divisions that have less rounds per match

What faces? All I see is a mangled mess where a face used to be
>>

There's having a big gas tank them there's catching your breath. Most boxers who use cardio can catch their breath easily and keep the advantage for the rest of the fight whereas someone like mike was notorious for not being nearly as effective past the 1st round and he seemed to do more long distance lower bpm cardio besides the boxing drills and being heavy and muscle bound also plays into it. Vs muhammed ali being very strong for his era but never really emptying his tank. Foreman seems to be a middle ground, saving his power punches for after gassing his opponent or an opening.

Imo you can have as much cardio as you want go ahead and try conventional boxing vs prime mike. Or be as strong as you want vs foreman or ali they're well big enough to put up a defense and ko pros when they see the opportunity.

Past a certain point especially heavyweight there's a point of diminishing returns to strength. In weightclasses where being strong makes you an outlier it's a huge advantage, or if you are significantly stronger it puts you at a pretty big advantage.

Boxing is where cardio matters the most of any martial art because you can draw a stalemate for a long time due to gloves and no mma.

My split is chest/back, arms, box/rope. My arms suck so must kill them, legs are only needing a little squat otherwise a gift. The boxing is murder. Just dodging the bag was more than the knee wanted, lower back sore like doms. Shoulders burn from the speedbag. After weights I feel spent but good. Boxing is new and leaving me a little gassed. I thought I could skip rope until I tried it for 3 minutes. Try working a bag for 3 mins. It's great cardio and good companion to weight training.
>>
>>77058865
I did hiit with rope. Is good but bag work gets your feet moving and timing. To be a lifter then go into a fight covered up, coming in low with fast feet and throwing a 5-6-1 combo, it's gonna leave a mark.

I remember reading a really interesting essay about how, in the old days, going to the gym meant going to a boxing gym. Instead of weight, guys would just get a workout doing bag work, pads, light sparring, and basic calisthenics. Seems pretty interesting.

>Lifting doesn't really do much for striking power, at least for the effort that it takes to grow your lifts
I would imagine going from nonlifter up through novice would help substantially
Strength certainly is a big deal in boxing, hence weight classes and all the successful guys being very muscular
There's just dumb old boxing superstition against barbells and preferring pushups or whatever

>>77058377
what a fucking retarded question LMAO what muscles is boxing going to build? when was the last time you heard someone say they are gonna get big by boxing? killyourself faggot
>>
>>77058865
Shut the fuck up nerd you don't know what you're talking about.
>>
>>77059258
The weird thing about punching is that power comes from the technique using the kinetic chain way more than it does from any raw strength in the arms, back, or shoulder. Everyone talks about about the serratus and the forearms, but punching power is also said to be just "something you're born with" so no one is really sure that to do with it. Weight lifting can even mess with your mobility and fluidity if you don't implement it correctly with your training regiment. It's all very complicated.

Malding
>>
>>77059349
Yeah I've heard all that. But I've also noticed professional boxers tend to have a lot of muscle
>>
>>77059419
all professional athletes are on gear, if they weren't someone else who is would take their spot
>>
>>77059441
On that basis, skill is less important. So hypothetically if you were higher skill and strong enough you'd entirely outclass them. It's why lifelong martial artists have a distinct edge. They've had to compete against stronger and more experienced opponents, having had to learn without brute strength.

Do you really want to spend time around guys like this?
