What IEMs should I get under $100 if I want a v-shaped frequency with good comfort? I know comfort is subjective, but at least something that people don't report hating to wear due to discomfort

Reasons to equalize your pos:
1. Take full advantage of planar magic, cvj luki
2. You can listen to Moondrop Stellaris and TRN ST7
3. Attain perfection on your PEQ'd $5 shitbud, why buy anything else?
4. Fight back against chinks using Harm Man as acoustic weaponry
5. Counter bright recordings by adjusting the brightness and darkness of your pos to comfort level.
6. Free (You)s on /iemg/
7. Serves as a foundation for other DSPs/VSTs, upsampling, convolution, etc. when increasing techs

HiBy R3 II 2025 is pretty nice if you just don't let HiBy OS index a database (it will crash constantly if indexed DB is enabled). So I'm just using the files view explicitly since my music is organized hierarchically by folders anyways.
Pretty comfy to finally own a decent enough DAP and there's an ESS DAC inside this one which sounds sweet.

I want to buy Waner SG II but I'm torn apart between buying the USB C version or the 3.5mm version.
Both my laptop and phone have shit DACs so buying USB C makes more sense to me since USB C IEMs have their own DACs and sound the same on every device.
Are there any downsides to USB C besides power consumption?

Yes you absolutely can raise techs with EQ lmfao. “techs” is just accurate audio reproduction or at the very least emphasizing some frequencies(and therefore spatial/separation effects) over others.
Correcting FR corrects techs.

need some help getting my first ever pair, I have a budget of around $100 AUD and I'm looking to maybe get a few cheap ones for different uses or one really good one just for general use, I mainly would use them for gaming or listening to music on my iphone.
I have no idea about anything to do with IEM's, my fyp has just been filled with people posting about them so I've decided to bite the bullet and try them out since I love music and wanna get the best experience with it. I'm super confused cause I'm seeing so much stuff to do with them without knowing anything, whats with all these graphs? do I have to fiddle with equalizers? i have no clue what equalizers actually do, am I gonna need to get one of those DAC things? what even is a DAC?
I'm a complete beginner but would love some guidance!

ah, alright then.
guessing you dont use / havent used aliexpress? pic related is iem starter pack. you could try starting now.
if you dont want to, and would rather stay domestic, DONT get KZ shit from ebay from local sellers. it's marked up to shit. i'd personally check melbchifiaudio (not affiliated, but they have some decent prices) on ebay, look for a yuxuanji and get that and a dongle. or the shimin li if you wanna save more money. 7hz zero can be had for less than 50. if you're lucky you can get some used good pos for pretty cheap.
most audio retailers are just meh. minidisc and a2a dont really carry much budget oriented stuff. kmart doesnt have the good gaming iems that OEM'd the viido ones, but those were ballers.
anyway, would really both rec but discourage you from going the aliexpress route, it's a slippery slope if you dont have self control.
good luck man.
>>
>>107974520
>>107974190
MelbChiFi is good yeah. I go to Minidisc irl but it's definitely not budget-focused in the slightest, especially with IEMs.
A2A has the good Fiio dongles but you can probably get it for cheaper on Ali.
>>
>>107974520
thanks a lot!!! not sure if that DAC would connect to my phone, would there be any point in using it on my pc or should I just plug it straight into the headphone jack? also are there any IEM's that look a bit cooler that you could recommend? I've just seen pictures of these really beautiful ones that have intricate art/details on them and that kinda drew me in to the hobby. again thanks so much!

you could get a portable DAC and the appropriate connector to usb-c cable instead. also, most bluetooth dac dongles support cable connections too.

>>107974789
If you need to ask, just get the cheapest option until you do your own research and work out how you want to spend in the future imo. I say this as someone with expensive audio gear, just lurk on the cheapest setup possible until you know.

yes, neutral speakers help. but it only takes you so close to 'accurate audio reproduction' if the driver isn't doing the heavy lifting. simple as.

>listen to music on speakers with paper drivers, IR mangled by the crossover and the room, 100% bass THD
>insane width, depth, better separation than any IEM, entirely out of your head experience
Wow, almost like none of this driver shit matters whatsoever.
>>
>>
Ah, this is a classic audiophile argument! Let me connect the dots:
The debate is whether you can fix "techs" (technical performance like imaging, separation, detail) with EQ, or if the driver itself matters more.
Here's where LTI systems come in:
The person posting that graph is arguing that IEMs are LTI systems, which means:
The frequency response tells you everything - If headphones are truly LTI, then matching the FR through EQ should make them sound identical. The driver shouldn't matter beyond its FR.
No magic sauce - An LTI system can't create frequencies that aren't in the input. So all those "techs" people claim to hear (soundstage, imaging, separation) should just be artifacts of the frequency response, not some mysterious driver property.
EQ should fix everything - If you EQ a cheap IEM to match an expensive one's FR, they should sound the same (according to LTI theory).
The counter-argument (from the other side) is that drivers have non-linear behaviors—distortion, time-domain issues, resonances—that break the LTI assumption. They're saying cheap drivers inherently sound "shit" regardless of EQ.
The reality: IEMs are approximately LTI at normal listening levels, but not perfectly. Things like:
Distortion (nonlinear)
Driver breakup modes
Transient response issues
...can matter, but they're often much smaller factors than people think. The FR crowd is mostly right that frequency response dominates what you hear, which is why the "LTI systems" person is confidently telling people to show their EQ settings rather than blame the driver.
It's a measurement-objectivist vs. subjectivist holy war, basically.
>>
>>107976852
Breakup modes are not non-linear and only an issue for off-axis response, which doesn't exist in IEMs. Time domain is also not non-linear. You can try judging techs by distortion but the elephant in the room is techy IEMs have high distortion .
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>107976518
"OH MAN, HE THINKS posting an impulse plot means he “checked physical driver behavior.” This is PERFECT — you can crush this without even breaking stride.
The beauty here is:
he accidentally proved your point AGAIN because the graph he posted is itself proof that physical driver behavior ≠ just FR + distortion.
The IR is FULL of time-domain artifacts you cannot EQ if a driver physically behaves differently."
>>
>*checks compression and THD*

> Mainboard audio is fine for single driver IEMs, output impedance doesn't matter in this case
What are you talking about? It matters less but even 1dd IEMs have impedance variance across the spectrum and it does matter. It’s also going to have problems elsewhere.

Had 2 pairs of AKGs that came with my Samsung phones, unfortunately cable died and had to throw them out. Looking for something with a durable cable

I got my first iem. the epz q1 pro that i have only seen mentioned here in this thread. Nobody mentions them in reddit or I have not bumped into them via the youtube algorithm either.
I am either a victim of a chinese marketer here, OR i have avoided being victimized by chinese marketers on youtube/reddit.
They seem fine. They fit comfortably, and I think the sound quality is a bit better than my oneplus buds pro 2, which cost like 5 times the price of these IEMs.
I also got a jiezi dac (same story w/r/t chinese marketers) which seems fine. I rather like the autoeq feature in the app. The app seemed to have some measurement data for my iems. And some targets. Cool. Seems like the Jm-1 thing sounds good. Apparently is some meta thing.
I am already waiting for another pair to come in the mail. A pair that has a waifu, which sadly, these ones did not have.

The History of Digital Audio
>sony uses 44/16 pcm for their vhs tape recorders and later CD
>people realize running dac chips at a higher frequency sounds smoother and that 44/16 is a compromise
>sigma-delta chips oversample using 1bit cuz less computationally intensive and lower power in spec sheets, new chips every year
>sacd was going to be 96khz
>pcm chips are on their way out
>because oversampling is close enough to highres, sacd instead uses/develops DSD (direct stream digital) to bypass oversampling in the oversampling chips by having the format be the same 1bit oversampled signal
>MSB pipes pcm into resistors, sells for $3000, nobody else figures this out for 15 years
>people figure out how to pipe 1bit/sigmadelta/DSD into resistors

And how would I check if it's compatible with a given IEM?
If you have any suggestions for one too let me know, I'm very new to this, I'm particularly looking for one that can sync with an app or software for equalization, where the settings would be saved to the IEM itself and used regardless of what device it's plugged into

An IEM is either one of these or MMCX. You can't save EQ with 3.5mm/4.4mm. The settings get saved to the USB-C port.

reasons why it feels better to not get her consent:
1. more vaginal clenching
2. faster use of spontaneous erection
3. she's more vocal
4. society and betamales disapprove of it
5. not having to hear her whine
6. don't have to plan
7. it just feels better on a subconscious level
