FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.irm https://get.activated.win | iex
>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

I've got a little thinkcenter running mint at the moment, but I also want to run win 11 iot on it at some point.
Is there a guide anywhere for dual boot going from linux to win? I've only seen it the other way around, or am I overthinking and it's as simple as creating a partition for win11 to live in?

My mom's computer has suddenly stopped recognizing there's a printer plugged into it. I've tried resetting it, leaving the computer and the printer off overnight, and plugging it into a different usb port, but nothing works. I figured it might be a driver issue, so I tried to check windows update, but apparently that broke years ago and it hasn't been able to install an update since 2024. it just gives an 0x800705b4 error, which seems kinda generic. I've tried stopping the update service and emptying the contents of the software distribution folder, and running sfc, but still nothing. I also tried using the media creation tool to maybe repair the install, but when it hits the checking for updates stage, it just gets stuck there too. I'm running out of ideas at this point, short of either buying a new printer or a complete windows reinstall (which isn't ideal since I'm doing this all remote and trying to walk her through things would be difficult). god I hate printers so much

it's an incredibly unusual setup.
I only have the one NVME drive in it, and the second nvme I want to leave open for an occulink adapter while I save up for an unpleasantly overpriced egpu setup. So it would have to be both os's on the same drive.

They all basically do the same thing, Winhance is one the newest which is pretty good, basing itself on a autounattend file maker but made to run on a live system.

You're gonna love asheroto's winget-install script.

they fucked up something that causes directx 10 and 11 software to have "inverted" colors when running in fullscreen and they never fixed that
i also had laggy animations on applications using WinUI 3
using the drivers provided by windows update fixes those issue for me

do people really use winget and scoop and stuff… Okay for example Zoom program. I have it installed, normally from the site. current version is Version: 6.7.2 (26346). Scoop version of zoom in the extras is 2 months ago|v6.6.11.23272
winget zoom version is Zoom v5.13.11835
uhhhh….
telegram another one, i downloaded the portablee from the site current version is 6.4.2
scoop is on version v4.4.1 from a bit over 4 years ago according to the version history
winget is up to date in this case though
am i missing something here or what?
I thought this would solve all issues of applications being up to date automatically
unless.... do they not bother to update the package because these will auto update themselves when you run it?

I don't know who told you this but Winget and Scoop were never for automatic updates
I personally use Scoop because it takes care of everything automatically when installing CLI software like yt-dlp or ffmpeg (automatically adding them to PATH for example), and since it installs in your user folder, you don't get UAC prompts and shit when installing or updating

Hello gang,
Would it be dumb of me to update from Win10LTSC to Win11LTSC? I tried it out briefly and I really enjoyed the aesthetic. And certain Microsoft Store apps want Win11.
Would I lose any fps or work my pc harder? I'm running a 5070 with a 7500x3d.
Anything that's broken? I'm also running pirated Adobe programs.

With your parts being newer you should seemingly get better performance overall.
To in-place upgrade you download the IoT LTSC 2024 ISO from the massgrave repo, mount it, then run the setup.exe file. Go through the setup, unchecking the option to install updates, and go through it until you reach the "keep all my files and apps" checkbox and make sure it's checked.

>see that nvidia is constantly writing to SSD
>what the fuck
>look it up, common issue on laptops, comes and goes depending on the driver version
>reinstall with nvslimmer, doesn't help
>find the file in resource manager, remove write permission, all good for now
Check your shit once in a while.

You use that if you want to use DoH system wide on a 10 system. You can use DoH system wide natively on 11 and don't need dnscrypt-proxy.
Also you can just use DoH directly through a web browser without needing it system wide.

I tried Linux but it's too fiddly and not for me. I'll be installing Windows 10 but want to remove all telemetry; what is the best way to do that? Is there an optimised install that is recommended or do you do it post-install? What are some of the recommended programs available to me?
>>

>>107994118
>Get 10 IoT LTSC 2021 from the massgrave repo
>Use Rufus to burn the ISO to a USB, choosing the options to not need MS accounts so you can easily make a local account
>Install it and get to your desktop offline
>Use a tool like ShutUp10/Win10Privacy/Winhance that you got earlier on a USB or taken from your phone to disable things like telemetry and whatever else you want disabled
>Restart and run Windows Update to get the latest cumulative update and whatever else it'll install with a restart
>Run the command in the OP in an admin powershell to run MAS, which you use to activate the system using HWID.
That's the basics done, then you install shit like your graphic drivers, a VCRedist AIO package and the latest LTS .NET desktop runtime, then install shit like your web browser, which you can install through winget via asheroto's winget-install script.

I'm going to put en_windows_7_enterprise_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_677651.iso on a DVD-R today! For later, for archival. Should've done it sooner. Anything else that's cool to put on a DVD-R? en-us_windows_10_iot_enterprise_lts c_2021_x64_dvd_257ad90f.iso? I burnt a disc with debian-13.3.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso too, but this isn't the Linux thread (although I'm curious if there's anything better than that, to backup, to be super safe)...
>>
>>107994214
I mean, why not I guess? Installing something like fresh XP for example works best when installing it from optical media. Installing 7 off a disk would work fine too, same with IoT LTSC 2021 as it expects to be also installed on old hardware that still has a disk reader.

because they are easy to automate, when I had to do two windows installs a day at my previous job, it was much easier to have winget uninstall a bunch of shit and install a bunch of shit, I don't want to sit there and babysit a bunch of Next -> Next -> next -> finish prompts

If I want to reinstall my W10 with all the bullshit removed (don't remember what I did, either it was a scrubbed ISO or a tool that disabled it all), do I need to grab that modified ISO again or can I just use the normal reinstall function from the boot menu?

I've had similar driver problems with my old RX 550 card.
The drivers since version 23.9.1 broke Vulkan on Polaris cards, causing constant stuttering. Direct3D and OpenGL stuff wasn't affected IIRC.
The solution was to downgrade the drivers to 23.8.2.
