>Song submission rules/guidelines
Upload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included.
You may also add a pseudonym to be included in the track metadata, but it must not be one you already use on music platforms.
Songs that violate YouTube's policies won't be uploaded there, but they will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your song. Light-touch mastering is sometimes applied to improve the consistency between tracks.
Use of AI is banned - This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation. You are allowed to ask an LLM about music-related questions, but asking it to give you musical ideas (eg. generating a chord progression) is prohibited. We rely on trust.

is it worth using a multiband compressor to duck certain frequencies if you already have a regular sidechain going on for your kick? especially if the mix is already decently balanced and sounds ok enough. would there be any sonic benefits in doing so?

What is an arrangement?
>>108037484
No, for two reasons: One is the album theme didn't mention covers, only remixes. The other reason is the /dmp/ fifth anniversary is coming up, and there will be a special album theme for that which includes covers of previous /dmp/ tracks.
The release schedule for this year:
April (19th album - Remixes)
June (20th album)
August (21st album)
November (22nd album - fifth anniversary special)

rephrasing the question, pedantically a remix is made from the original stems,
we dont have stems for any of these except like 5, do we have to sample the original mix or can we transcribe ("""cover""") the melody/beat
if people post their old stems this is less of a problem

seasoned engineers dont seem to like multiband compressors much, somehow the crossover filters make it too easy to fuck up the relative phase of the different bands and if you dont squash the fuck out of the signal theres no point using them anyway, not sure if thats still the case but mbcs arent as popular now as they were 10+ years ago, more modern compressors tend to have just a high pass or low pass filter on the dry signal so you basically have one wet band and one dry band which is easier to manage, thats what ive been using lately too
>>
>>108046665
very interesting... phase issues kinda make sense, but the lowpass highpass thing kinda doesnt. at that point you would probably be better off just using a regular sidechain to make space for things? like this old fuck: https://youtu.be/vr1vSlWjxaw

I've been under a rock and apparently AI covers of real songs were a thing? Also totally original music with ai in the preproduction phase too? Managed to listen to quite a lot of them before they all got purged on the tube. Save for the original music; I found out that a number of these channels went further and beyond by editing them in preproduction (or would it be called reproduction in this case?). I just have a few questions to everyone here because I really feel like a boomer right now
>Are all these songs done with suno? Or another tool? How accurate is it with specific prompts and any tips before using it? I am considering subbing for it and already I'm overwhelmed
>Why are musicians/artists online on leddit and elsewhere so upset whenever someone mentions or asks about ai? It's nothing more than a tool and I've heard songs with both ai and human involvement, and they always outperform the ai only ones which is low effort. How's this any different than digital music software and artificial instruments? Why do they always put up the pitchforks?
>>

because it's very barely anything like any other kind of tool such as artificial instruments. I won't argue that there is literally zero human input or discernment, but for the (most most most) most part, it's just a turn off brain easy mode shortcut for retards to get slop out of a machine that sounds 'good enough' to their retard ears because they don't give a shit and can't be bothered to give a shit because they are soulless retards. Use it if you want but don't pretend that anything that comes out of it is yours, it's retard cope for people who couldn't be bothered to enlighten themselves to the point of even being able to truly appreciate whatever it is they're trying to approximate with their music.

But that's exactly what I'm talking about. If an artist uses it to bounce ideas or come up with a rough draft, then heavily modify it or recreate it completely and modify it; how's that any different than using a tool? I've seen a few nich channels that do this and the results were amazing so I'm asking why the pushback? It's not like I'm going to crank out some slop like that country song about shlicking yourself with a corn cob. They're making it sound like using it makes you a villain and you're hurting the industry. As if labels & megacorps haven't done that already.

The reason people are so mad about it, my guess would be, is because there *is* such a culture around this tech of actual goons and ghouls and soulless zombies and tech billionaires and venture capitalists who *do not* want to do anything as acceptable-sounding as what you describe. The mere use of this tech seems to lend itself to acceleration towards the death of culture and descent into consumer madness somehow hardly before imagined by most of us. I don't think someone who does what you describe is a villain necessarily, or even some random peasant who uses it as an anti-human freak, but it *is* extremely hard to give this stuff any grace. That is why people are mad.

so we don't have an album theme currently?

Seriously the album should have a fixed format - KLF song remakes. Any style should be fine, pop, rock, jazz, classical, country, rap, techno or any of the subgenres.
It would be much more fun than just "remix" lol. Also remixes will get taken down if you sample. It should be all original from the ground up. KLF re-makes.
They literally don't give a shit and both Cauty and Drummond have endorsed the People of 'K' re-dos and demanded nothing from them but paid copies of their albums.
