your trips to the Northern Appalachians have been left out of history because you didn't post all the flags? sucks to be you lol edition

Previously on /flag/: >>219008179

>do (You) like going to places, taking photos and blogposting about it?
>potentially becoming the first pioneer in the entire history of 4chan to take those flags? (pic related)
Welcome to /flag/, a comfy 130 IQ general for Extraflags users that combines your passions for geography, maps AND travel by using the Extraflags extension

Threadly activities include travel/trip posting, urbex, wilderness exploration, hunting for radioactive minerals, eclipse and aurora hunting, (extra)flag collecting, map filling, cycling across Europe, other autistic activities and overall funposting

>What is Extraflags?
Extraflags is an open-source browser userscript that lets you choose regional flags, like states and provinces, to add to your already existing default country flag.
Turns out it's very well suited for travel posting because you can flex with the ultrarare (or at least, nice) flags you're travelling to, rather than using it as a reddit flair for tripfagging in other threads

Instructions for installing Extraflags: https://flagtism.gitlab.io/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/

the day we will get a new regular from/near the Northeastern US will be a good day. i really like the mountains of the region even if they ain't Rockies, and i would love to see them more on the general

dangerously based

btw I've booked flights - expect some malaysia and singapore regional in a few months' time

I love this map, can we do a similar map for California maybe?
>>
>>219856427
it used to have townships but way back in like the 1800s, i don't think census subdivisions are usable, unfortunately outside of the northeast/great lakes the 3rd level situation is meh
>>
>>219849512
It's insane how even a single Pennsylvania flag hasn't been posted.

>>219857191
Ah that sucks :/
>>
>>219859147
rather, there has never been a proper 3rd level flag dump. there have been some county dumps where a few towns were posted here and there but those are not usable. US collecting was focused almost exclusively on counties until very recently

just added the municipalities that were merged into m*l*n in 1923 because they all have CoAs so now i will research which ones i've been recently and if have a good pic from there (even if older)

That's what I did with Eminönü in Istanbul, wish there were more merged municipalities so I could research them

nvm my old hard disk is still nuked; i think i'm gonna postpone for now.
I even added the old medieval quarters but i don't think i have been there recently, if i had joined in 2018 i could have posted virtually all of them because that year each day i used to go to a new area of the center after university

You’re welcome to try again, and if you’re honest, I’m happy to help. But if not, I don’t really see the point of either lying or just doing it lazily

Every single woman I told extraflags about was VERY curious about the flags of their hometown or the places they visited. Depending on how you frame it, it IS a very cool sounding hobby.

Tism dumping on girls is the only thing that separates us from every single carbon copy asshole cryptobro they encounter. So I am not afraid to yap about it.

states have had having fun creating new districts everywhere, a lot of those have flags so i had to comply. i tried to guess their borders on google earth. the districts you see on OSM date back to Siad Barre's times and haven't been released again since the start of the civil war. we're still using them for the maps

there's even a facebook icon at the bottom of the page, in this case it doesn't go anywhere but it might be different for other divisions

Kuwait uploaded.

There are many shape flags, maybe with different search terms, something could be found. But, that's all I could find, now we have 100+ Kuwait logos which isn't bad I guess.

However, I think after Egypt, this has been the most time-consuming and difficult project I did.
>>

:^) i'll process these rn

>I think after Egypt, this has been the most time-consuming and difficult project I did.
a lot of areas in Kuwait are just desert areas and not supposed to have coop societies or anything, so i suspect you tried to google over and over those
Kuwait is indeed a peculiar case but for most countries, you will learn how to take a "quick look" in a few seconds; if the right websites don't show up is probably not worth keep looking. i recently googled all district of Somalia in like, 3/4 hours? and that's on the hard end of projects

if your next project is Albania, the approach i recommend is a very quick looks as most won't have anything anyway and if they do it will show up immediatly. if anything i would do two script runs one with "niesja administrative" and one with "bashkia" to see if they had anything when they were municipalities

>>
I politely told you a lot of times before to become a regular here, to post from your country, dump flags from your country, learn how to use a vpn and properly dump of other countries. Did you research the municipalities you took in Georgia and Armenia a couple years ago? You haven't even posted from home once! Do you think the thread can be kept alive by posting once a year?

I got the impression that this thread would be welcoming travel stories and pictures and locations. Instead it is one Italian autist thinking he is the owner and moderator of this thread. He is being very rude to everyone. I have no reason to post my travel pictures and locations here if this one person is actively going out of his way to be an asshole to everyone.
>>
The internet has thousands of places where you can post travel stories and pictures and locations. This is supposed to be something different and something more, so if that is completely disregarded, the whole fucking point is no more
>>
Sounds like an entitled basement dweller who has not actually travelled ever but finds solace on a 4chan thread. It makes him feel relevant because he imagines himself to be the moderator and ruler of a thread. He autistically rages at anyone who does not act according to the "rules" he made up in his head.
>>
File: CH8.png (1 MB)

the "rules" had existed for years before i even joined the thread, and i see no reason to not support them giving that they guarantee the high quality posting in the general

anyway, if you don't like becoming the first pioneer in the entire history of 4chan to post the districts of Azerbaijan you're travelling to, that's definitely not my problem
pic related is my favourite country to travel to; not only i get to hike around which is something i would do regardless, i even get the bonus sadisfaction of researching and dumping all the flags which only doubles the fun. Wanna do the same?
>>
There is no reason to act so rude. You have apparently decided in your mind you are the moderator and owner of this thread. You seem very unpleasant and entitled. 4chan is all about people posting freely. And here you are angrily screeching about people who do not care about these rules you made up in your head. You are not a mod or ruler of this thread, get over it.
>>
if you wish so much to, sure, nobody will care about you or whatever you do then

>>
>>220546941
if this thread was about the sky being blue 220544838 would just screech about how the sky is actually brown, don't even bother replying
other than that, i wasn't try to convince anyone because 220514499 had already installed and posted in the past several times, and every single time refused to dump or even research the flags despite being told that the thread works as such. completely fucking useless, might as well call him out

anyway, i will actually say that you're right and the next one won't even get called out, let's see if anyone else will actually make the difference. You're all free to try guys, i can't be bothered

I was going to write a longer reply, but your claims are mostly just your own assumptions, so there’s not much point in taking them seriously.

Look, every travel community has its own format. NomadMania has one, /trv/ map threads have one, MTP has one, and so on. It doesn’t really make sense for you two to argue about an established format when you’re not regulars. Us regulars are happy with how things work.

Don't act like we don't welcome you, I even made an instruction guide for newcomers just to welcome you guys, feel free to check it out. You might understand more about the concept of the general

And don’t frame this general as some kind of dictatorship. It's just hilarious when you call the Italian anon an admin, try to learn more about the general before you attack people.

Also, it is a bit ridiculous is complaining about the thread without... you know... even installing the script that the general is built around.

>baseline is the existing "flag of europe" which was supposed to be neutral which is why the human rights council uses it
>the circle of stars is rotated so that no single star is on top or bottom symbolising equality among members
>the stars themselves rotated so they all point outward and moved closer together
>this visually forms a spiked circle around the outer edge, symbolising a single face presented to the world, solidarity between members, and a strong posture
>also it's always the right way up this way
>kinda evokes a crown of thorns
>purple because it's not associated with existing political ideas like blue = west or red = east, representing a desire to be an independent pole in the world
>also many eu countries and expansion candidates were on the red team in the cold war so purple represents the two halves or europe merging rather than the west subsuming the east
>tenuous rome connection

I like that you put some thought behind it.
My first thoughts are that historically purple especially in the combination with gold/yellow are symbol for wealth and the Catholic Church.
Like you pointed out the way the stars are configured they resemble a crown of thorns or a halo and therefore it's really quite heavy on the Catholic edge.
Saudi Arabia has the green with Islamic scripture, I feel like your flag would similarly fit for a heavily Catholic country, organisation or group.

no wonder i didn't need to bump the thread for over 6 hours

anyway, make your posts, we need to reach bump limit this evening before i start my new trip to Corsica (probably) tomorrow. I will also dump what i have in Lazio to give the thread a good start

I was going to ask if a blank background or a white background is better with PNG files, it probably doesn't matter much but still, which is better in your opinion?

>Corsica
France needs an overhaul fr.
Also, I hope there is a way to add all arrondissements.
>>
>>220755156
I'm still not too fond of any purplish colour, but that may be a personal thing.
The reposition of the stars is pretty nice, the fact that it has some lore behind it is nice too, I think that's important.

>a blank background
gives more information than a white one, given that you could have white parts that otherwise would get lost. for making flags doesn't really matter

>>220775135
>arrondissements
not very useful, we could use the flag of their capital but again France has already 3 levels. it's a different situation for example from Czechia where districts allow to reach 3rd level
>>
let's finish in style by posting some flags
