I just read through an entire section of my eroge without checking a dictionary except in a couple of cases where either I was retarded and didn't understand the meaning or it just wasn't clear for me. I'm nearly at 6000 words and the only times I have to stop to check a dictionary are when there's one or two unknown words I need to look up. Overall I'm quickly reaching a comfortable reading level and I'm happy about that. Hopefully I will hit 10k words in a month but I don't even know if this short eroge will yield so many words.

I only occasionally ask AI to explain grammar. Otherwise I just learn vocab alongside grammar and let exposure do the rest.
>>

Wait 4000 in a month is delusional lmao i will probably take slightly longer but doing 80 on regular days and 150 on weekends will get me there quickly. I don't need to learn many new kanji anymore.

Smashing hundreds of words into your head is better than taking it easy and studying at a snake's crawl. Why? Because even if you end up forgetting lots of them in a month, the active recall once you review them again and again will be stronger. When you've done the hard work of memorizing the kanji and readings, it just takes one or two more rounds of review to make them stick in your head.

でもそこが弱点なんじゃないのか。
ankiは遅いから使わないって言ったのは確かイタリアくんだよね、でもああいう間隔反復ソフトを使わずにそんなに言葉数を一日で学ぼうとしたら、逆に大半忘れちゃうんじゃねえ
このactive recallってどこでする?
>When you've done the hard work of memorizing the kanji and readings, it just takes one or two more rounds of review to make them stick in your head.
これもちょっと理解できない。読み方と漢字の判別が出来た時点ではもうその言葉を完全に知ってるんじゃないか、それとも言葉を学べず漢字とその読み方を先に頭に叩き込んでるのか
一方ではイタリアくんの勉強の仕方には興味ある、あれぐらいの言葉数を学ぶことができたら今頃ドイツ語にも足を踏み入れることが出来て最高だけど、正直日本語を学んでから自慢してほしい。
Sorry about the length, I am very jealous of your method if it actually does work as well as you claim, but part of me also suspects you're overselling it.

Honestly it works for me. I can read eroge with minimal assistance now. Sure new words keep showing up but they're either abstract terms or formal terms I need to learn and they don't really disrupt the flow. I'm basically frontloading lots of words and letting immersion handle revision. My words just need a little nudge to slide into my long term memory, I see a familiar kanji and look it up on my list. Then boom, my mind connects the dots and retrieves the word I was looking for immediately. I was thinking of feeding words to chatbots and instructing them to reuse them in their output but it's too much work.

Explain your memorization method. How long do you put in to each word?
>>
>>220617241
>Explain your memorization method
I mine words and cram them into my head until they stick, then run through them on Anki. For revision I often go through them like this. This way I can ensure my mind doesn't only recognize the words but can actively recall them by translating them from english to japanese. I only ever use Anki to get a whole list of words I need to run through with reverse translation, so I press always easy and let my mind do the recalling job.
>How long do you put in to each word?
These days it takes me like 2 hours to memorize a batch of 80 words. If there aren't any new kanji it's literally a breeze. It's funny how katakana and hiragana words are tougher than words with kanji, but if you tackle them after a while eventually they also stick in your long term memory.

If I scroll back to two months ago I can read around 90% of the words I mined, but I noticed that in some cases some words still leak out of my mind. I should definitely run through my review list again to make sure I'm not burying words. I wish we had a better tool than Anki. Also as I said I'm considering letting AI use the words I frontloaded long ago, it might work if you trick your brain into thinking it's important stuff by chatting with bots.
>>
>>220617505
No I mean whats your method for memorizing the word? You just read it over and over?
>>
>>220617703
Yeah you basically just replicate Anki's spaced repetition except I do it on my text file and on ChatGPT by splitting tabs.
>>
>>220617740
Also needless to say but I let AI turn my batches into Anki lists.
>>
>>220617740
How do you know how much to space your repetitions?
>>
>>220617886
I don't, if I can't read words I just tackle them again and again until they stick
>>
>>220617930
So it really isn't spaced repetition then.
>>
>>220618174
>So it really isn't spaced repetition then.
I take short breaks after learning 30 words or when I'm halfway through them, then I read them again after a while. Then again until I can read them flawlessly. That's what I meant.
>>
>>220618223
So you're basically just saying that you spend 1.5 minutes memorizing a word and then after that 90 percent of them stick.
>>
>>220618344
>So you're basically just saying that you spend 1.5 minutes memorizing a word
If you know already the kanji + readings then half the job is done, I can associate the words to their meanings right after reading their translation. Since I don't believe I was blessed with a super retention power by the Buddha others who are on my level and beyond will most likely come to back up my claims.
>>
>>220618436
uh huh
>>
>>220618519
Frankly I think Japanese is the only language where you can do this. I can't speak for Chinese or Korean, but kanji are definitely a godsend. Notice how I said learning katakana and hiragana words requires more cognitive effort? That's because they have no morphological hooks unlike words using kanji. This is why I dislike when japanese people don't use kanji.
>>
>>220618589
And let me guess your method for memorizing the kanji was basically the same?
>>
>>220618742
I mean there's no other way lol, you just need to smash them into your head until you can read them just by glancing at them. 2-3 months of intensive studying will get you there. I'm my 4th month in and I currently know about 1976 kanji.
>>
>>220618896
Its crazy that the japanese school system doesn't use this amazing method of just taking 2-3 minutes to memorize a kanji. Damn the whole population would be kentei level 1 by 2nd grade.
>>
>>220618896
How many words do you know?
>>
>>220619053
>Its crazy that the japanese school system doesn't use this amazing method of just taking 2-3 minutes to memorize a kanji.
Bruh looks like I didn't get my point across. I never said it took me 3 mins to memorize kanji. It takes me a couple of minutes to memorize words whose kanji and readings I already know. Learning new kanji can take from 30 mins to 2 hours for me.
>>220619089
5959 as of today, including the words I mined for tomorrow.
>>
>>220619126
You said 2-3 months will get you 2000 kanji fully memorized.
>>
>>220619161
>You said 2-3 months will get you 2000 kanji fully memorized.
Yes you can do that if you study intensively every day and are exposed to media all day. I'm not even the fastest learner because I started with 30 words per day and then went with 50. Now learning 50 words a day isn't even challenging anymore so I amped it up to 80 on weekdays. This guy who claims he learned japanese in 6 months basically started with 100 words a day and only used Anki. I'm not even sure where to find his thread.
>>
>>220619287
No. I deny that anyone short of an autist could perfectly memorize 2000 kanji in 2-3 months without an actual memory technique. There's no way just looking at them could do that.
>>
>>220619461
>There's no way just looking at them could do that.
It's really that easy, you just hammer them into your head all day every day and eventually your mind will get used to them.
>I deny that anyone short of an autist could perfectly memorize 2000 kanji in 2-3 months
I never denied I wasn't an undiagnosed autism but I just explained how I did it here >>220617505
I won't deny that it was extremely gruesome at the beginning.
>>

You were spending all day every day memorizing kanji for months?

>You were spending all day every day memorizing kanji for months?
I taught english online in the late morning and early afternoon and sometimes went to zadankai meetings in the evening but essentially yeah, that's all I did on my pc and phone all day. I got addicted to learning Japanese.

I don't know what to tell you, I just got hooked on it. You can learn any language if you have the willpower to persevere every day. No, I don't think it's common to write 珍 as another word for ちん in the sense of a penis, but on the Internet, I've seen ちん replaced with 珍 in kanji just for fun several times.
