That a Ruskoid or a Chinkoid?

Fellas I just traded a 1963 Yugo M57 for a 1953 Romanian M44, pretty happy to finally have one. The bore, bolt, and receiver are all in pretty good shape, and I must say the trigger is crisper& the bolt is much smoother than my 1928 91/30. Anyhow - some would-be bubba sanded the absolute hell out of the stock for some ungodly reason.
For that reason I wanted to get this particular carbine for the purpose of *tastefully* sporterizing it. Years ago I saw a youtube video where a guy rechambered a beater Mosin in 45-70 and managed to redo the stock in such a way that maintained the original look as much as possible. As far as I remember the guy just replaced the barrel, slightly modified the bolt face, and beat out the magazine walls. I've always wanted to recreate that because I think it would be a fantastic hunting rifle for deer and hogs down here in GA where the woods are thick and the shots are close.
Anybody know where would be the best place to look for a suitable 45-70 barrel to kick off this project?

Looks to be a Russian refurb given the color of the bolt.
>>
>>64806826
Well, anyone that makes barrel blanks. I know the guy you're talking about and he turned a 45-70 blank on a lathe to get the profile and thread pitch he needed to put it in the receiver. Funny, I also looked into doing something similar recently with a nugget receiver or one of those navy arms barreled actions on Sarco that already have 45-70 barrels in them. Instead I bought a husqvarna 45-70 moose gun from simpsonltd.

Has anyone here ever collected a rifle by different stock wood types? I read on the M.95s that a multitude of wood species (~17 iirc) were trialed and used on them including walnut, elm, maple, beech, birch, etc. I think that would make for a neat collection.

okay

Also to that Anon who got one of those 1922 Hotchkiss kits, I got you beat fren.
>>
and I got one of the armorers chests and feedstrip loaders.
>>
>>64808317
I bought this M91/59 (middle) because the finger grooves in the stock where thinner than a standard Mosin stock, and it reminded me of my Wz. 48 with the wood grain. Still don't really know what the differences are.
>>
>>64809141
It looks like the stock got heavily sanded at one point; notice how shallow the scallop behind the lower barrel band is.

Goddamn dude, already got the receiver halves coming or something?

Are there any mil surps where you can apply a scope without drilling into the gone? I know the mas 49/56 has a rail for placing a scope but my state has banned owning grenade launchers.
>>
>>64809812
Quite a few non drill mounts just have you punch the rear sight out and mount a scope rail attached to it
>>
Has anyone gotten one of the repro FN49 stocks from Libtery Tree? I have an Egyptian model that has bad cracking in the finger groove area and was wondering how theirs were.
>>
>>64810113
Gotta be better than the shitty century wood on mine. You're talking about the ones they think were made in Italy right?
>>
>>64809812
Why would you even want a scope on a milsurp? Most have at least acceptable iron sights, and most are 4-5 MOA guns at best.
>>
>>64810607
Yeah, I was concerned because they were showing them having cracks at the back of the stock on the page. Yet when I emailed them about a stock they were selling on gunbroker they said 'no, the ones on our site are in good shape'.
>>
>>64810677
I'd give it a spin, Egypt stocks are getting more scarce than the other variants it seems and those all have recoil lugs. Mine happens to be cut for a recoil lug for reasons unknown so I'm going belgian, I think it's specific to the Eagle receivers.

Wrong thread to ask if anybody has any info on the lining of M.82 Dutch NBC parkas? I understand it’s a three-layer system, just want to know if it’s activated charcoal, some kind of foam catchment that’ll hold tons of water, or some weird proprietary material that’ll give me instant ass-cancer as soon as I break into it with shears
Basically want to know if this thing is worth any actual field time if I sew on some pockets, or if it’s too narrow in its intended use against NBC
I would ask /gq/ but why would you ever ask them anything if you wanted a helpful answer
>>
>>64810700
Honestly I was hoping to get the stock so mine would sell a little better. I don't wanna take the chance on replacing a cracked stock..wih a cracked stock. I may just sell it as is. Mine is a crown receiver btw.
>>
>>64810787
Eh even cracked you'll probably get $1k+ if the rest is good condition. They're pretty stupid cost now.
>>

Very nice. I'm still not sold on the aircraft sight though.

This is at an auction near me and I cannot tell what the 1st character of the serial number is. It kind of looks like a cursive J, and also looks like a cursive S. But it can’t be a J because supposedly the serial numbers for J stopped at like 25k.

Fucking French.
>>
>>64811268
Replying to myself. Maybe it’s a P? Because the serial numbers didn’t go to S. Idk.

What are you planning to do with all those parts? Build up more of Hotchkisses? Just collecting gunsmith stuff?
>>

NTA but it's fun to use a scope on a milsurp gun when sniper variants are 10x the cost.

You should, I just placed an order with a CS rep and they told me they are very close to being out of stock.

Anyone else doing some coonfingering at show of shows? I can see you beardos in alpenflauge with strollers full of surp.

Can anyone explain what this marking on this No.4 Mk1 is? It just sold for $950 which seems crazy for a run of the mill No.4 Mk1 unless this added some weird value to the rifle.

That rifle was air dropped to the French Resistance during the war. The PP serial number was added by the French government after the war.

Wtf is with that stock? I don't see the dust cover cleanout notch.

That has to be some Chinese replacement stock or someone managed to shove that into a trainer stock.

Don't buy an Arisaka just for the mum. You will always be burned lol. So many turds out there

t. some guy with like 70 Arisakas

Mauser ones are probably gonna be really hard but you could always get an Astra 900 for like $1200

It's going to take you a long time with just the Gew.98; have you considered getting a saw(back)?

Mine needed a good cleaning, and I needed a cross bolt nut and a new butt plate and screws. But overall it’s in decent shape and shoots fine. I made sure to order one with a matching bayonet, because I wanted 1 rifle in my collection with a matching bayonet.

>>64825053
Unfortunately that seems to be about the going rate for common 91/30s these days. Due to the fact it’s a Tula and I don’t have a Tula 91/30, I’d probably buy it if I saw it in my LGS.
>>
>>64827155
I will take that under consideration. There is a rotting tree between where the range will go and the backstop that we'll probably chew thru with funny stuff though
>>
Not a gun but this is the best thread to post this. I got this as a turbo steal for 250 burgerbucks. There are maybe 6 or 7 others you can find being sold online ever, and very few were ever made. It is a Sabre, made around the turn of the 20th century. As a bit of a game before i spaghetti dump unannounced, can any of you tell me what is unusual about the grip and what potential reason they have done this for? I will give you a hint, it was done to make one extremely specific use case more effective.

Regrettably had to search reddit for a source and their caption is "A New Zealand sentry at the Ninth Army Ski School in Lebanon, 29 April 1942."

1. I didnt know Lebanon even got snow, flares and white phosphorous, yeah, but just huh.
2. Fucking end of April apparently so I don't think his kit is exactly ready for the Talvisota

does anyone have any earthly guess on when or if Apex might get more Yugo M48 bolts?

Alright no one wanted to play, that's ok. Anyways, this has a backwards canted grip which I thought would be obvious from the orientation of the photo. If a grip is not straight, then it will generally curve inwards towards the pommel. Why did the Eyetalians do this one differently? Because when cavalry charges with the goal of attacking dismounted infantry, you hold your arm up with your palm facing outwards. It feels goofy but as you stab, it pulls the blade to your outside allowing your wrist to move with it, break rigidity, and for the tip to withdraw from the victim. Palm inwards and it can break your wrist or make you lose the sword. Anyways it is very odd and unusual but gripping it in 1st position really does lock it into a bizarrely comfortable position, it's just that the only thing this sword CAN do is act as a hand-lance in 1st position. Now you know.

Are m1 carbines cool or lame?
What are the pitfalls?
If i can afford a transferable M2 should I?
>>
Do any SKS owners here have experiences making the chinese 20 rounders work better? It can feed 20 rounds just fine but there is a weird friction that happens around 15+ rounds which makes it hard to load fully, I suspect the magazine is slightly too wide/bending under load and the rounds at the bottom are spreading horizontally.

I probably deserve it for buying one of these magazines anyway, I usually keep the original 10 rounder on anyway.

My port mauser arrives Thursday, they are fucking expensive but I've always wanted a large ring mauser straight from the importer, don't want to haggle with some boomer claiming "yep, this here was HITLER'S PERSONAL RIFLE!"

M1 Carbines are cool. M2s are cool. You WILL have a bad time with shitty mags but you'll eventually find the ones you like.
