what have you been playing lately?
I've been on a massive Silent Hunter 3 kick the last few weeks. If you like submarines I highly highly recommend it.

If you're not playing Grey Wolves, you're doing it wrong. And if you really want to be cool, you play it in real time. Nothing will ever compare to a real-ass 12-hour hunt for a tanker you got a radio tip-off for.

I'm using Onealex AIO 3.2, its built off GWX but has more variety and still gets updated regularly.
Also its standalone, so you don't need to own SH3 to play it.

Putting hours in on Velocidrone, a really realistic FPV drone racing sim.
I'm in the middle of building my first FPV and want to try and avoid sending it directly into a tree or something on my first takeoff.
I've been using my FPV controller (radiomaster pocket) via USB to hopefully get as familiar as possible.
If any /k/ommandos have any interest in drones as a hobby, I highly recommend it.
Prices for Chinese FPV components have come WAY down because of Ukraine and Russia placing bulk orders over the past few years, so it's never been cheaper to roll your own than now.
I became interested in it because of the conflict itself, and now that I'm trying it out I've developed new respect for the drone operators themselves, it's actually pretty challenging.

SS Zandam, an attack transport with a shit ton of deck guns and machine guns, was carrying just shy of 1500 troops when I happened across it on the way to my patrol grid. It was moving at 22 knots, but managed to get a snapshot off on it with two torpedoes. First one detonated prematurely, second one hit home just forward of the engine room. Followed up with a second torpedo just forward of the first one to finish her off, then it quickly sank taking 1,402 troops with her.

I'm thinking if it's possible to capture the spirit of submarine warfare in game
Like a game where you don't actually see your enemy (unless you surface to periscope depth), and your entire interface is just an instrument panel of sensors and stuff, through which you try and locate and sink your enemies before they do the same to you
Do you think that would be fun? Or just tedious and boring?

between 1940 and 1941, the US enacted embargoes on Japan of flax, silk, cotton, jute, leather and hides, manila fibre. they were key war materials used for making seats, parachutes, uniforms, maritime rope and cable, boots, belts, webbing, knapsacks, and sandbags. don't underestimate the importance of these minor items to the war effort.

I highly recommend keeping an eye on Frontline Logistics: Isarian Warfare. It's just a demo atm but the demo's being updated about weekly as features are added. Tutorial is very weak but its good if you stick it out. It's an RTS where you lead about a company sized element and need to manage casualty evacuations, stockpiles of equipment (rations, bullets, rain ponchos, shovels, blood plasma, etc. etc.) sleep schedules, and so on.

>warno
It's so disappointing when compared to the original Wargame. It has really nice QoL features, like ability to give orders before the start of the game, visibility or the option to see vehicle's roude. However, it also comes with the horrible division system, which is pure greed, designed to make as much money as possible with the least amount of effort. They shat out like 50 division and it's mostly copypasted stuff, and they still haven't added actually interesting countries, like Yugoslavia or China.
>>
>>64816411
I actually like the division system, it make the game a tiny bit more realistic and it force you to be smart on how to play with the strength and weakness of your division and not just take the best unit of each categories your faction have. The basic division given are good enough to have fun with it. The nemesis dlc are pretty meh so I don't even bother with them.
The black bird dlc will showcase more minor nation but still interesting for a cold war gone hot. Little chance of seeing anything from China or North Korea since the game is based on the european theater
>>
>>64816469

Started playing Empire of Sin recently. It’s an absolute fucking garbage game made by the same devs who made Hearts of Iron but it just happens to scratch my itch just right. You start off as a two bit gangster in Prohibition Era Chicago and slowly take over various neighborhoods, recruit other gangsters to fight alongside you in the half-baked XCOM style battles, set up and upgrade breweries and speakeasies and other illicit businesses, form alliances or wage war against other gangs, and read hilariously bad dialogue. There are real guns such as the Gewehr, the Springfield and of course the Tommy Gun and the 1911. Though I’d hardly call the game realistic or even good. It’s janky as fuck and extremely undercooked but, again, it just happens to scratch my itch just right. The racist stereotypes are hilarious too, I wish more games did shit like that

Read the class name. I was doing it on a dicksword stream for a friend, and I was making a point that you can start with the most awful build on earth and you'll still end up breaking the game. He insisted on doing two-handers, and actually getting to use the Bell Hammer for once was a good gag.

The potion was a fucking mistake, took almost as long to navigate Red Mountain at that speed as it took the second time on foot after hitting Dagoth so hard it killed him through the godmode hacks and breaking the scripting in the Heart chamber.

>>64816228
The real sad part is realizing that TES never peaked. Not once did they ever directly build upon the last game in order to fix its flaws. For Morrowind, that's most keenly felt in that for all the work we do to re-live the life of Indoril Nerevar, it never gives us the Second Battle of Red Mountain. But what it does do exceptionally well is scratch the phantom itch people walk away from Skyrim with.

>The real sad part is realizing that TES never peaked. Not once did they ever directly build upon the last game in order to fix its flaws.
It's still an excellent game, far better than Oblivion or Skyrim
>b-but rose tinted glasses
No matter the mods, I couldn't get into Skyrim, it just gets boring so quickly. Meanwhile I decided to finally do modded Morrowind run last year and I had hundreds hours of fun. Just one week ago I had an itch to start it again, going for Tamriel Rebuilt, but installing hundreds of mods is such pain in an ass
I just wish Morrowind had better balanced costs for enchanting and spells, because for some reason OP shit is cheap and easy to make, but quirky enchants or spells are impossible to make. And I couldn't find any mods that fix that.
>You want to enchant 11 points of shield on your robes? no can do. 10 hp regen per second? Done.
>Oh you want to make your boots weight nothing by enchanting feather effect? Uhh how about no, too small enchanting capacity. But +20 strength, that will give 100 carry capacity and all the other effects str gives? Sure thing.
>>
>>64817451
You mistake me. My premise is it's fascinating how the most unifying thing across TES is the sense of melancholy that overhangs the entire series. I share your assertion that Morrowind is by far the best straight out of the box, but it's also worth remembering that Morrowind was a janky experiment in changing the entire format of the series, conducted under immense time and budgetary pressure. It's not the Platonic ideal of the TES game, it should have been the starting point. But as it did to Daggerfall, Oblivion happened to it. Even Skyrim, which should on paper be the easiest to "do it again, but better", is closing in on 15 years without a following, and who among us dares to think Bethesda will even be capable of that low bar? The fact that Todd would almost certainly tell you "this, again, but better" is exactly what they've done with the series is just the bitter cherry on top.

But that's enough moping. What has the Maybe come up with this time?

How is a video game a live action role play?
>>
I have heard Russia is way overpowered in Warno. Is this true?
>>
>>64817897

The writing and worldbuilding is really what made Morrowind the best game. Vvardenfell stands out compared with Oblivion and Skyrim for being extremely inventive and unique (especially the religious situation). Oblivion in the earlier lore was iirc a province civilized out of a jungle dotted with Aztec (I mean Ayyleid) ruins. Like if the Roman Empire colonized the Amazon. While in TES IV Oblivion™ it is 15 square km of Devonshire + plus a snowy part around Bruma.

If Michael Kirkbride gave just 1% of his writing ability to modern Bethesda devs it would make their next TES game better than Skyrim.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4R-yEPtk1o

The Cave of the False Incarnates and the Azura cutscene after calling you Nerevar Reborn is genuinely in my all time top 5 gaming moments. Sometimes if I'm in a reflexive mood or drunk I load up my save at that point and let the False Incarnates tell me about their lives as false prophets. Just soaking in the vibes of being a Mahdi and imagining all the prophets that came before me so certain they were the one.
>>
>>64818633
I hold some issues with Kirkbride that to be fair aren't entirely his fault. Mostly in the sense that in a series that leans so heavily on the unreliable narrator, somehow fucking Vivec has emerged as the single most credible source in the series. Granted, the only hard canon about TES' esoteric schizo shit that Kirkbride wrote after Morrowind was the Commentaries, but then he spent the next 15 years using the same mechanisms to copepost about how Oblivion and Skyrim definitely weren't shallow downgrades, and it's become far too normal for my tastes to take anything he says as canon. Then it stops being strictly his fault when people making games just lift from his apographa wholesale whenever they need some esoteric schizo shit. A little bit for Skyrim, and HOLY SHIT CAN YOU NIGGERS COME UP WITH ONE ORIGINAL THOUGHT for Online.

But that's a screed all unto itself, and not really fit for casual discussion. I'll agree with your general assessment. Between the Shivering Isles, Blackreach and Sovengarde, it's clear that they can (could) still do things as crazy as Azura's Coast, but they just insist on making their world less awesome than its source material. The fact that they somehow managed to downgrade the mechanics, the writing AND the world design all in lock-step would be a truly impressive achievement if it weren't so sad.

Dev's a little bit of a Modern Briton, but he makes some interesting stuff. Gunpoint gets a lot of the same vibes from a sidescroller perspective. Is it something like GHPC and Nuclear Option, but for ships? If that's so we'd have the triad complete. I've been longing for something to scratch that World of Warships itch, mostly because I found long range shooting in BBs extremely relaxing, and getting the right lead on a target touched my autism just right with a great dopamine hit every time. Never found something that felt like that since I finally managed to quit. Sniping in GHPC feels good too, but it's not the same thing as a full broadside flying for a minute before raining on an enemy.
>>
>>64819474
My last moose kill was 3 shots, but I finally got my first big game kill with 1 shot.

>>64821466
no, SeaPower is controlling a fleet and giving general orders (go to this place, engage this target with this weapon, etc). So you don't get to aim the guns and fire or anything of that nature.

It'd be select your battleship, select the main gun, and select the target on a map and let the AI engage.

Not best place to ask but its obly place I post.
Why are games so poorly optimized in recent years? I only ask because Cairn dropped yesterday and runs like ass for all and Halfsword was today and people say the demo runs better, which is what made me think about it.
Is there just too much hardware and software existing to cover your bases?

I've been playing the Rogue Trader vidya. Not really /k/ related beyond all the cool bolters. It's a good game if you like classic CRPGs like Arcanum or Fallout 1/2. It's the kind of game where the Sister of Battle will only confide and trust you because you befriended and said nice things to a group of orphans 3 chapters ago. The family of Tabletop RPGs it is based on are good too (especially Black Crusade and Rogue Trader) but some tragically autistic fans can't get past the video game doesn't follow the tabletop rules 100%.

Damn, it's actually really fun
But 1) I suck at shooting and 2) I get really fucked over by poor luck it feels like
In the story mission to shoot Hollywood, I had to track the damn deer through half the map because the first shoot only lodged itself in its shoulder blade or something, and did no substantial damage. Then with the second shot I got him in the lung, but wasn't able to track down the body until the game took mercy and pointed it out on the compass lol (he crossed a river and I couldn't find the blood trail on the other side)
>>
>>64823676
Sounds like you're not ethically hunting.

Get within 100-200 meters and aim for the heart. If they run more than 100 meters you probably didn't hit your mark.

Best feeling is watching them drop instantly where they stand.
>>
>>64823681
Both shots were taken somewhere between 150 and 200m - I was afraid to go closer lest I spook them.
I tried to aim chest-level both times, but one went too high, the other missed the heart and only went through the lung
I also managed some instant drops later though
>>
>>64822414
that'd be an easy fix by flipping the sign of the tilt in rotate() but from what i gather it's supposed to be a direct representation of the roll angle (right down to being a true circle arc) and when paired with horizon lines you can see they rotate inversely

this actually reminds me of a couple of air crash investigation episodes i watched in which russian pilots (on top of sometimes being drunk, of course) crash newly leased western passenger planes because of misrepresenting the attitude indicator which draws the artificial horizon format differently than what they were used to in soviet instruments

i'm starting to feel weird thinking this much about flight data indicator displays, like some footfag that focuses on the wrong things
>>
>>64823698
you can push left ctrl to walk slower to not spook them, make sure you are using the range finder and zeroing (use up and down arrow keys to change zero) also different calibers shoot more or less flat. the 7mm and 300prc shoot pretty flat, but the .308 has a bit of an arc to it.
if you want to take long distance shots i'd probably go with one of the 300's, prc or winmag, doesn't really matter.

>A solid idea, but it feels unfinished.
Oh yeah, no doubt. Still pretty fun and there're some good mods on the steam workshop
>>
>>64824062
I was using .243, but I've since switched to .300PRC, hopefully that'll pack enough of a punch that a square hit will always be incapacitating
I know about the slow walk, but I don't know what the "detection range" is for each kind of movement, and whether it differs by animal and the surface you walk on, I'll have to experiment with that a bit
Also the bullet drop shouldn't be an issue since we're already zeroing, no?
>>
>>64824282
Zeroing doesn't negate wind effects or elevation differences. So you still need to be aware of how a bullet will behave when fired from below/above the target, as well as wind direction and the amount of wind.

And obviously zeroing also isn't perfect, zeroing for 249M means putting your reticle at either 200M or 300M and splitting the difference manually.

On the topic of Sea Power, how did Cold War era ships actually defend themselves from munitions anyway? CIWS and anti-missile-missiles seem to be more of a post-1980s thing.
>>
>>64829909
you are quite right
anti-missile-missiles were not a significant factor until the 90s
subsonic antiship missiles could be shot down by 70s missiles designed to kill jets, but not very low-flying types, or supersonic

the answer was: kill bombers first
>>
>>64829869
It's an experience and you're not cut for it. If you got it only because the funny guy on youtube told you it's a cool game, then you're not a real Tarkhan.

Seriously though, take it slow and pick your fights, you're against an overwhelming force. Ammo selection is important. Ambush convoys as much as you can. ELINT your way to avoid strike groups. Nukes are a last resort kind of weapon. Detaching fast scouting units is useful as fuck. Sev sucks ass, upgrade it as you need and keep it in a AA escort. Alternatively design your own flagship then tweak the save files to allow it to be a flagship. Making borg cubes and steamrolling everything is fun and all but I think keeping things as realistic as one feasibly can is way more enjoyable.

I really really REALLY wish the dev made a sequel or a DLC or anything.

That's lame, I've been following it for over a year and have probably left the cabin 200+ times and that has never happened, it's like any other game in the genre, as you progress your loot and guns get better but yeah I understand you, nobody needs 50 winter jackets & 40 work gloves
>>
>>64829869
It's honestly easier than it look because the dev progressively removed every sophisticated features until only remain the superficial appearance.

The combat is arcade where you minmax a few ships either on speed or armor.
Ship design consist only on making combat or dumping everything on logistic ship, there's only one type of design possible since the devs nerfed all minmaxing method, escape pod are pointless.
Special ammo are just Pay2Win ammo
Carrier ship are only good for recon or bombing run on landed ship so they get a chance to hit
The navigation is just a set of minigames, most can be ignored
The goal is just to maximized scavenged resources, take prize ship, evade big fleet by just not using your radar
Nuclear missiles are just something you hoeard for the final or if you get bored

And the most strategy you can perform is spliting a ship out of your fleet to serve as bait for missiles.

>>
>>64833251
If you can take as many as the darkreach holds 500lb bombs you can absolutely blanket an area. The 12 the sparkvark can carry was enough to fuck up a couple ships in the dev stream. The real problem child is the 250ER. The only plane that can carry enough to insure they get through is the darkreach. Otherwise they just get blasted by radar AA. Even then the only map they're worth a damn on in terminal since heartland won't even let you get to speed let alone altitude before you're now deep within range of SAM
>>
>>64833966
NO right now needs bigger maps more than new toys. It's ridiculous that I can use a Darkreach to spam ballistic missiles right after takeoff, to just turn around and do it all over again.

Also, the ammo container next to AA is a meme that should fucking die because if I wanted to play Ace Combat I would just do that, but this is more of a complaint targeted against those who make custom missions than the dev.

Worst still, you get up everyday where tv and radio news keep saying the dead a rising from the grave and yet you can't find any of the inside the entire state.

Try doing the terrain hugging song and dance without a Chicane. The attack helicopter is the best SEAD/DEAD platform of NO for single player hands down: yea sure it got powercreeped by the Brawler, but the Chicane is the only that can reliably sneak up to AD and whack it before it has time to react. Stealth is a massive meme in this game, standoff munitions are useless, and Medusa needs a level of multitasking that the game just doesn't allow and doesn't automate (the laser is manual targeting and firing only, jamming needs constant firing input and can't be toggled, ARAD get constantly intercepted anyways).

I do hope we get multi crew in some form. There's too many aspects for one pilot to cover for a few vehicles.

>Medusa needs a level of multitasking that the game just doesn't allow and doesn't automate
Medusa shines as a support aircraft. You're supposed to stay in the back, with two pairs of jamming pods and use them on enemies that your teammates will kill. But still, it needs an overhaul. Jamming toggle should be the bare minimum.

By the way, they did hit the 2025 Q4 update on time. The AI isn't as dumb as before. The AI can look at speed and formation of contacts to determine probable hostiles and they will also send up interceptors if they detect a raid. The aircraft AI is better, but still needs improvement. They are working on missile kinematics now and they said they're not gonna bother with aircraft AI until they nail down kinematics (which makes sense because it's gonna drastically change evasion and firing maneuvers)

TL;DR Sea Power is slowly improving and the devs have been honest and true about update timelines.

nearly forgot i also added in the horizon lines ladder for the full combo
wasn't quite sure about it though so i resorted to asking eyy-ayy if there's a more efficient approach and it said not really and that's how betaflight also does it (no idea if that's true or not but it made me feel good so i'll take it)

>is it still a micro hell?
We've gone from burning hell to a balmy purgatory. It's still requires micro, but it's a helluva lot better than it was at launch. For starters planes don't randomly smash into the ground and they're better about doing missile evasion.

For me, its Wolfpack for MS DOS. For some reason when I would run it, every 10th time it would run super fast.

Been playing a lot of Half Sword since it dropped. Easy to pick up, difficult to master. Tons of fun though and the devs are releasing updates daily.

Check your DOSbox settings. A lot of games of that era run on processor cycles, so if you try to run them on modern machines, things get wacky unless you limit the emulator.

That mission in particular has been irking me. Even if i get all my units with standoff ability within 110ish nm, the NATO force either dies almost instantly, or is uncannily good and intercepting everything i throw out.

Other times i can get em on radar easy enough, or im out about 50 nm, with a visual (i can see the radar masts spinning away) and still cant get em on radar.

Havent got a clue, but im a scrub anyways

The Chicane is completely useless right now.
Maybe if they add a landlocked map full of mountains with tricky target that plane can't target easily, but no.

>SEAD/DEAD
It's the worst platform to do this.
Even if you manage to get close, you'll use your entire load of missiles trying to get through anything but the cheapest Air-defense
Now that rockets need laser targeting they are no longer useful for that job since almost everything will kill you before you get a chance to hide
And now that almost every ground vehicle possess a turret of a sort, even getting in visual sight of any convoy of vehicles is deadly.

>sneaky
As if, the Cricket have lower IR signature and that's the most important part considering the target you face.
The Chicane is a sitting duck against almost anything that fly unless you have control of the air or maybe if you have a nice canyon to hide in.

>Launching from a ship
If you aren't shot down on the way, you'll die of old age before you arrive at destination.
The only thing it is good at is launching very quick to serve as anti-missile.

>it got powercreeped by the Brawler
The IBIS can carry as much missiles and a drone capable of indirect attack, while flying faster and being Rank 1
The Tarantula can carry more missiles AND a long range cannon, it's also speedy even if a bit less maneuverable, it doesn't suffer vortex ring.

I only see few ways to make the Chicane useful again.
- give it a radar so it can scout
- swarm of cheap drones it can hunt cheaply
- spread ground units so it is easier to take them out one by one
- give it more weapons diversity (like maybe old anti-boat missiles)

Project Zomboid. If you want a similar but more in-depth, much less demanding (hardware-wise), pixelated aesthetic, turn-based experience, try Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. Free and open source, as well.

What the fuck?
CDDA is more demanding than Zomboid on most factors except GPU, but even Zomboid works on a workstation GPU from early 2010s.
But for casual play, both will work on any hardware.

4.38 graphics are a nice step up and the f-16 is simulated (and everything else really) so much better than DCS, just be wary than the if you don't have a good PC you will have to edit the config file to nerf graphic quality
also Dynamic Campaign is just so good, whacky at times, but in the good way

I still think the Chicane is better than the Ibis. The UGVs and the door guns are terrible compared to the amount of damage you can do with the 30mm gatling
>>
>>64837798
Did they ever add more aircraft? Been years since I last tried it and I knew they were developing stuff like the F-15 and F-18. I know there were ways to get access to other aircraft but that was best described just reskinning the F-16 which was a pity as I'd prefer more SEAD aircraft.

Mig-29 atm should be a reskinned F-16s; the F-15, while being not perfect, is mostly finished; the hornet is mostly a reskin with some unique stuff, we probably won't see a full fidelity one since I believe the BMS devs are also busy working with Microprose for Falcon 5.0
On the f-15
>https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/30995/f-15c-known-bugs-and-limitations-bms-4.38

There's nothing else official though, but to me the 16 is more than enough with the huge amount of stuff you can do with it, and if to that you add the three other theaters (Israel, Hellenic, Balkans) you can get busy for a while
>>
>>64836887
Because turrets are modeled and thus things have to turn to engage you popup attacks are very effective. If you pop up at 2 km you'll kill HELs or SPAAGs with single lynchpins.
AGM-48s are terrain following so if you fire them from a terrain feature away and there's a similarly short window to engage them they'll all get through too.
Also the cannon is extremely good for killing buildings so if you manage to get to a factory complex it's excellent.
>>
I've been playing through the PC versions GRAW 1 and 2 lately. GRAW 1 was enjoyable. Felt like a real military operation in Mexico city. GRAW 2 feels worse in hard to describe ways. The tactical map doesn't let me place waypoints on top of enemies anymore, so now I can't track them as easily. Emplaced guns are also too fast to react and way too accurate.
