Imo, no not particularly. Especially if you want to use certain 5.5mm "military" type stocks, it might be better to go with a kit.
Getting into 5.45 seems like a fools errand to me, but sometimes you want what you want.
>>
>>64826318
Honestly at the rate I shoot these days ammo prices don’t make a difference. I find a lot of 5.45 for around what I’m paying for 7.62x39 and I was thinking of getting an MP5 clone of some kind for when I want to shoot on the cheap.

If brass Belom and Igman is only 3 cents a round over steel TelaAmmo is it worth using? I read that ak's will mangle brass so I might not be able to reload but if I ever get a furnace I might be able to melt down the brass and use it for casting parts I can use on my lathe/mill

Made some more progress on my Sadu Krink build. I'm using a recreator CL CHF barrel with PSA Krink components. The PSA components came with rust on them (they warn about this on the website listing) but they seem to be in spec when it comes to bore size. My only complaint is that they don't come with pilot holes which is a pain in the dick. OFC they're not chrome lined but I don't really care about that because it saved me hundred of dollars.
I think this is a Childer's Romanian receiver but I can't remember. I cut all the side folder holes by hand with a drill and files. The furniture is from Riley but I won't be keeping it for long because I intend on installing the Groza conversion on this one.

Milling is a bit of a stretch on my part. Its actually just an endmill bit in my cheap drill press with a cross slide vice bolted onto it. Its fucking terrible and I don't suggest you do it for anything other than very gross/crude cuts. In this case I just needed a flat spot to drill out the pin hole. Some trunnions have a step right where the hole goes so the bit will walk unless you flatten it.

It is truly an odd, if not wrong opinion to have
Finished Headspacing and riveting today. Had to modify my AK builder jig in order to crush the folding trunnion rivets. By default it won't extend far enough because you might bend it. Seemed to work fine for me. Tomorrow I'll replace the gas piston in order to finish populating the barrel. It's a shame that I have to drill out piston rivet because I really like the purple/red finish on the bolt carrier. I might try the Birchwood Casey "browning" solution they make for black powder guns because I'd really prefer to keep the plum look.

Noguns cope. You don’t know shit about guns because you don’t own any.
Besides, your comparison is apples and oranges because the FAL was DEVELOPED for the 7.62x51 round. The AK was not developed around a NATO cartridge, that came ~50 years later solely for commercial export.

Not personally, no. But a lot of the single stack magwell WASRs also had single stack bolts.
So if you open up the magwell it could end up with feeding issues because of that iirc.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>64836702
Its easy enough to do with hand files and and a dremel. Don't listen to anyone that says the magwell or lack of receiver dimples cause mag wobble because it's not true. The fit up is determined by the front trunnion lip and the mag release lever. As some other nigga already said take another look at your bolt because some of them are narrow enough to cause problems. You could buy a proper AKM bolt but you can't just expect it headspace properly so you will have to spend an additional $100 on go, no-go gauges. If you have a single stock bolt I would advise buying a new bolt and headspace gauges before modifying your rifle
>headspace on new bolt is good
go ahead and carve out the magwell
>headspace is bad
leave the rifle as is unless you are willing to re-headspace the rifle with the proper bolt
If you already have a double stack bolt then disregard everything I said I just carve out the magwell

>I want a good trigger that isn't gonna beat the shit out of the internals
Even if someone said to you that it was good to go, it would still doesn't matter because parts hardness, obviously, is completely different from one rifle to another, sometimes even completely different from the same rifle model from the same manufacturer.
That being said it seems that it's not shipped with a hammer (?) so that's already something less to worry about. Altough, a hammer beating parts to death tells more about the quality of the parts than the hammer itself to begin with but some mfs aren't ready to have this discussion.
>>
>>64837487
Depends on the gun. I think that a lot of the US triggers are overly hard compared to surplus triggers. I also suspect that a lot of people with aftermarket triggers end up having to immediately reprofile them (for cycling purposes) which saves their rifle from being mushed.
Depending on which method was used to harden the hammer, the hardest part of the hardening can range be anywhere from a few microns to a few thousandths deep which will naturally be ground off if you reprofile the hump.

>CAT
Aren't those pretty low back pressure?
>Cycle
AFAIK those dumb gay retarded 182gr 7.62x39 were developed for legitimately bolt guns. They certainly won't cycle and SBR AK, and they would be my last suggestion for cycling a 16" AK
If you look around you can find Brown Bear 196gr subsonic 7.62x39, both new from vendors and from guys selling it used on AKfiles, reddit, and Tacswap.
Hornady SubX 255gr also is pretty easy to find new from vendors
Both of these should cycle a mil spec gassed 16" AKM especially if you have a moderately high back pressure can.
Brown Bear 196gr cycles my 16" SKS with both a Dead Air Sandman K and a SilencerCo Omega 300
https://sgammo.com/product/200-round-case-762x39-hornady-255-grain-sub x-subsonic-ammo-80787/
https://www.k-var.com/ammo-brown-bear-762x39-196gr-fmj-500-rounds
Don't get me wrong, buy a box of the PPU 182 grain and see, but don't be surprised if it doesn't cycle.
Also 182 grain is insanely dumb and weak and gay when barrel twist rate stabilization not withstanding, clearly you can fit a 255gr hollow point of all things in there and load it for subs. No reason why 7.62x39 subs don't START at 255gr except yeah the stabilization issue I guess.

Thanks for that. Yeah the CAT is low back pressure, and after digging around a lot more it looks like the PPU 182's are not designed to cycle at all. I may still pick up a couple of boxes for the fun factor and/or hunting.
