Relisted again, huh? Last time I saw one of these actually sell it went for $350, they're uncommon but it's not like it's a one of a kind. It's also absolutely not a prototype, real retail product, they sold over 100 of them.

All you need to do is create some vague rationalization of how the gun has a practical function in your life. If its a handgun then perhaps it will be your backup survival handgun for your family if the world ends.

I've been fantasizing about top break revolvers that fire from the bottom chamber for many moons, and this is the first time I've heard of this one. It would be neat to see how the action works, but not quite $6000 neat to see it firsthand. At least someone tried it though and I wonder if it was junk or just too awkward to make it into production.

I’m wondering if early USPs had superior triggers than more modern made ones.
Mine is from the 90s and has a better albeit not incredibly so trigger to my beretta 92fs which is Italian made from the early 2010s and is a trigger I also consider to be good.

3 - worst handgun you experienced
For me:
1 - My Mark 23
2 - Laugo Alium (thanks range richfag)
3 - Luger P08 (was a dream gun, was ruinously disappointed when I finally shot one)
Pic because I like this gun and can't wait for my silencer to come in.

1. I hate to say it, but my P320 M18. I won't carry it anymore, but I thought it was a great gun.
2. Webley in .38 S&W. Not at all practical, but that top break is a lot of fun.
3. FEG HP clone. Couldn't make it through a single mag with stovepiping. Changed the springs, tried different ammo, nothing helped. Sold it and don't miss it.

5 inch 9mm 1911s are very smooth shooting guns, the weight + the 1911 slide stroke/recoil spring makes it shoot so good.
But since the gun was never designed for such a short round compared to .45 there are a lot of work arounds to get 9mm to feed from a .45 sized magazine. There are several different styles of 9mm 1911 mags and they have the bullet sit slightly differently inside the mag. Some guns like some brands, some feed from all, if you have trouble feeding try a different style. (Wilson, metal form, Tripp, chip McCormick, etc)
I heavily recommend getting a modern styled one with a beavertail, Novak sights, trigger guard undercut, and if possible one with checkering on the frame.

My buddy has splurged on two pistols and now a rifle with a recent windfall. I know for a fact he has gone to the range only a handful of times. Honestly 2011s are so cheap now a 9mm 1911 doesn’t make a lot of sense. The new Kimber Warrior DS is attractively priced and if it’s half the gun that the Kimber 2k11 is it’s probably a good deal. There’s also the prodigy too.

>>
>>64843530
You don’t really know what you’re asking for, you think it’s as simple as gun, but different caliber, but it’s not. You’re about to learn first hand why 9mm 1911s are either very expensive or the same price as a .45 but don’t function that well out of the box and you’ll need to go though a bunch if different mags and ammo to find the specific combination that it likes.
>>
>>64843660
I don’t think that’s true anymore, 9mm 1911s are very popular and have been figured out by now. I had a Tisas 9mm commander and it fed perfectly except the extractor tension was too low out of the box. It’s a 10 minute job to correct that.

You're the guy who built the double stack 1911 with the weird front cut right? Can you give me a QRD on that/link to your old posts that do? I would like to build a DS 1911 of my own. I'm mainly curious on stuff like on who sells good frames and slides, and how much fitting they require i.e. are the rails deliberately cut oversized for the slots in the slide and I can just manually file them down to the right clearance or will I need to fix my old mill and make a fixture.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>64843727
Rails are cut oversized to allow fitting to your slide
I built JEM and Cheely frames, I’m building JEM frames since they can be stainless and can have a traditional .45 ACP feed ramp. I built a Cheely ramped .45 which seemed to work fine for 400-500 rounds but the ROT is that traditional ramp is better. Ramped frame means you could convert it to any caliber later. JEM could fit a slide to your frame for you, Atlas is now selling paired frame and slide kits.
Rails are oversized for the use of hand tools. I used the evergreen or deep river customs rail stone guide. I spent many hours stoning the rails, very comfy while listening to an audio book. I did everything with hand tools. A hacksaw too.
I’ve used Fusion Firearms barrels, Wilson Combat “drop in” (it’s semi fit), fusion is the only quick ship “custom” barrel source.
>>
>>
>>64843750
Atlas perfect match ignition kits is great. Only slight spring tuning required.
I tried using the Nighthawk Custom Drop in Trigger cassette but it gave hammer follow since it wasn’t compatible with the cheely frame.

EGW thumb safety
MJD grip with custom stippling by me that everyone hates, I fucked up the mag catch hole by trying to fit a gen 2 mag catch to a gen 1 hold so I had to fix it with the soldering iron
>>
>>
>>
>>64843750
Also you don’t want to file your rails, they should be stoned so they maintain a perfect surface. I don’t bother hand lapping since I’m not going to nanometer precision. I want shooters not master pieces

Thanks guys. I'm looking for direction for a summer project. Biggest question is what finish I'll get done and who will do it. I would love to do DLC but I'm guessing that will be wildly expensive.
>>
>>64844156
Jarvis customs does PVD coatings like DLC (125 dollars for a frame or slide), DSC also offers them and will polish the sides so you get polished DLC (200 dollars).
Nighthawk charges 500 to DLC the entire gun, 700 I think for polished flats. 350 for black nitride but you’ll be paranoid about any solvents or chemicals getting onto the gun for the rest of your life

A 2011 is a trademark held by STi/SVi, no other company can call their gun a 2011. Hence names like “hi-cap”, “double stack 1911”, “DS9/Mac,”, “2K11”, “2311” (witness/girsan), despite being the same frame style and magazine. The 2311 name is split between Turkish 2011s and the oracle P320 mag double stack 1911 thing that’s not actually a 2011 at all.
2011 should refer to a specific style of 2 piece frame and magazines, not as a catch all term for double stack 1911 style guns like the RIA double stacks, the Platypus, or the Fusion firearms thing (feels really nice in the hand).
The 2011 is a frame that has the grip portion be detachable. They can be polymer, steel, or aluminum, or some other alloy. There is a grip module for the 2011 that makes it take CZ75 mags but otherwise all grip modules take the same mags and aren’t caliber dependent.

mostly after seeing Gunbelievable's break so seemingly easily
I understand third bay claims they've redesigned that particular component but it still gives me some trepidation
though the only reason I wanted one was because of how strange it is, so it's probably not a real concern when I'm not really planning on actually using it as a main carry option

2011 is a trademark of staccato but it's basically just a double stack 1911, they're very similar in design and function. Different manufacturers name them different things because of the trademark. Kimber 2K11, Springfield 1911DS, Girsan 2311. Oracle makes a 2311 too with a breech locking setup with no link instead of a lug locking setup with a link like a 1911. That kind of muddies the water a bit. Pictured.

I have the very first production unit, before any revisions. Mine was so early in fact that when that Winchester round blew up in it and I took it to Third Bay for inspection*, he replaced my magazine cover with a new iteration just because he could (and left the old one as a spare).
I just surpassed 3,000 rounds. That's 300 folding actuations alone (10 rounds each load), x2 because it's close then open. I've probably done 500 empty actuations just messing with it. That piece never broke. Nothing broke actually.
*As a measure of Third Bay's support, when I told them that they insisted on inspecting it for safety, and were standing by to replace any or all parts, or even the whole unit if anything was damaged. Nothing was.
Then recently I had some loading jams, I talked to them about it and they did a zoom call to diagnose my unit by sight. Everything checked out and they said if it keeps happening they will replace the entire unit. It stopped happening after that coincidentally
tl;dr It's not likely to break, but if it does in my experience so far they'll bend over backwards to fix it
>>
>>64844355
I find it interesting multiple companies have “solved” the problem with the 1911/2011 design by changing the barrel link or the barrel locking lugs or both, and nobody actually cares and they fall flat. Like the Wilson Combat double stack thing, the DWX, the Springfield omega/linkless, and one or two more.

>>
>>64844369
I'm not familiar with the Omega, looks like a single stack 10mm? I was under the impression that the the DWX and Oracle 2311 have a different locking mechanism because of the difference in feed geometry when using CZ and P320 magazines, respectively. But then again, the Platypus uses Glock magazines and it still has a 1911 style lock up.

>>
>>
>>64844422
Oh, I was just making an observation about the link being a “weak link” of the 1911 design but the actual market not caring.
The plunger tube however is the real issue and I wish more frames had them integrated. The extractor too.

Faggots with gay faggot wrists and little gay faggot hands have said this about literally every single gun on the market for years. Full-steel DA/SA pistols are "too snappy" for half of /k/eddit.
>>
>>64844441
I think the market doesn't care because 1911s haven't been more than a range toy/heirloom for going on 50 years. If they were primarily used as defensive/carry guns, like say a Glock, people would care more about little durability issues like that.

I crossed a Smith & Wesson 3rd gen off my list with a 4516. Got a pretty good deal with the gun in excellent condition, 3 mags, and original box for $497. This is only the 2nd full steel pistol I've bought aside from a 1911, but despite being a compact, it weighs about the same as a 1911 at 42 ounces loaded. It feels good though, like how a gun should feel, the trigger is surprisingly smooth, and the reset is ridiculously short.
It always saddens me how S&W gave up on these guns so quickly after Glock started eating their lunch. Sig had success with the Sig Pro, Beretta had the PX4, and an alternate timeline where S&W kept producing a polymer 4th gen while keeping certain legacy models would have been nice.

Get your own holster, I have like 4-5 enigmas. Some holsters don’t work for it, the holes to mount it are in the wrong place pushing the gun too low or whatever. But once you find the right set up I think it’s better than any other carry method.
>>
>>64846067
Optimal range ammo is whatever allows you to train the most. Running an occasional magazine of your carry ammo to remind yourself how it feels is the best you will ever need. You're not training for USPSA nationals, you're building the skills to defend your life if necessary. Unless you're planning to pull some hollywoodesque revenge spree against the mob, all you have to be is good enough to stop the threat. You don't have to be delta tom clancy john wick, having fired 10,000 rounds of your hand loaded +P+ teflon coated JHP defensive loads with national match level speed.

I exclusively shoot Winchester Service grade 9mm since it’s one of the hottest range loads I have seen. 115gr flat point 1300 fps makes very nice round holes in targets, recoil wise it’s worse or about the same as +P 124 gr JHPs. It’s +P and for only 25 cpr.
>>
>>64846526
Also you can get it into the high density packaging, both sides of this image is 4k rounds (8k total). The tiny boxes are very nice for storage but more susceptible to damage, I’ve found maybe 1-2 rounds pushed into their cases too far.

>mental gymnastics on how .32 ACP is superior to 9mm
No mental gymnastics required, the only thing better about 9mm is a rimless cartridge costs less to make, it's the only factor that led to 9mm seeing wider adoption in the long run. Why do you think almost all police and military organizations around the world used to issue 32ACP? The American civilian market buying so much 9mm because they want to pretend to be Nazis is what drove the price down so far that people started adopting 9mm over 32 despite the obvious shortcomings.

Then why are you looking at another Glock 17? What does the gen 6 bring to the table that you desperately want, and you gen 4 is lacking? I'd kinda understand if you're going to buy a gen 6 17 AND 19, so you can do the swapping, but otherwise, what is the point? Not hating on Glock, I carry one, but it sounds like you should definitely drop the 17 from your to purchase list.

>>64843541
Is there a compact to subcompact sized 1911. Either 9MM or 45. Tbh 45 probably won’t kick worse than the bulldog provided it’s at least 20oz but it must have a monster spring so 9 is fine too.
I probably need more 9 for ammo compatibility
So yeah
9MM subcompact 1911 of shoot anyone?

Know it’s bait but browning himself employed a high-low strategy in calibers and quickly abandoned 9 like calibers like 38 ACP for large and small. The military did so for all the wars it won. Using one to do both isn’t optimal.

>If you are not trying to become the best, why train at all?
I guess I'm just mentally stronger than you are. I don't need delusions of grandeur to motivate me to self improve. I'll never be a champion bodybuilder but I still lift weights, I'll never be a motogp rider but I still do track days, I'll never be the world's most attractive man but I still groom myself. I don't find operating under some ridiculous fantasy that I can be the best at something necessary to want to do it.

Nobody here is the best at anything. Statistically, very few people will ever be the best at anything, unless you make up some arbitrary thing to be good at, like pulling the lead out of wooden pencils without breaking it. So, by your logic, should we all just give up at everything?

Slightly cheaper than Glock

came to ask about the consensus on the trigger, coincidentally. I've only dry-fired the echelon and fired the PDP match, which was underwhelming, but the echelon trigger definitely has a shorter but less forceful reset, and feels better overall. Is the PDP trigger meme officially dead? I mean Walther even sell an upgraded trigger

I'm watching funny Taurus Judge videos and saw a "snake gun" comment, and it's made me wonder where that idea even came from. I’m tempted but that price seems suspiciously low for what are normally very desirable options on a 1st gen SAA. Even if the nickel is aftermarket it still looks like a factory 4 3/4” barrel.
