Hey, i got banned from reddit for joking about killing people, so ill post my dilemma here. I recently bought a mossberg mvp patrol 5.56 and brought it home, dry fired it a fews times, then the bolt wouldn't cock anymore. What i found out after pulling the striker assembly out of the bolt is that there is no firing pin, it has unscrewed out. So i take the firing pin out of the bolt face and try threading it back on the striker thing. It only threads on one goddamn turn (thats how much it sticks out in the pic). It should thread all the way, right?

So, im thinking of taking it to the shop i work at and just tap and clean the female threads. Am i missing something else? Locktite? I dunno. Give me knowledge.

It's the Laminate Stainless T3x model. Chambered in .308 with a 22.4" barrel. I tried to get the 20" threaded barrel just to have the option of a muzzle device, but they weren't available when I ordered it.

Scope is the Burris Fullfield 3-12x56mm illuminated model. Mounted on the Tikka stainless steel picatinny rail with a cerakoted Leupold 0 MOA cantilever mount that I inverted to get the proper eye relief.

The scope is beautiful, but as you can probably guess from the somewhat odd mounting setup I ended up with, it's a bitch mounting such a short scope with such a large objective to what is ostensibly a long action receiver.

I'd say get the Garand assuming it's one of those good condition new assembly ones. It holds up on its own merits and it's a bit of a collector's piece so it's worth getting even if good semi-autos were still available. As for the FN49 I don't know enough about their condition and quality to recommend.

NTA, but as a hammock maxxer myself, i must say, that hammocks are kind of gay. Atleast from my own experience, as a 6'4" tall gigachad (like John Wayne) these things kinda fucking suck.
Its 10x more comfy than a ground tent, for like 30mins, then the innability to properly change positions sets in, the inability to easily walk out for a piss aswell.
One must ask themselves; do you enjoy being cocooned up tight in a mummy bag? bent like a banana? stuggling to exit confined spaces, having a cold ass?

A hammock is great for relaxing during the day, or setting up in locations with minimal flat ground for a tent, but they actually kind of fucking suck ass to spend the night in.
Also super easy to rip through the bottom if you have sharp objects on your belt.

Aswell; the issue of legroom when traveling in vehicles out to camp, or even the risk of smashing your head on things when the terrain gets rough.

Fwiw anon there is such a thing as a tree tent, I've had good luck with those on my expeditions, and it's a decent hybrid. You suspend it from 3-4 tree trunks or appropriate rocks or whatever depending on model. Obviously it's not as firm as actual ground but much better than a hammock. Not mine pic related as an example, don't have one of mine with a gun unfortunately but gives the idea. Also purely subjective but I always have loved tree houses and something about the idea of sleeping suspended above the ground is cool to me though for others they wouldn't like it, same with trust in the system I've trusted my life to ropes rock climbing plenty of times so this is ok with me but not saying that's necessarily sane lol

It doesn't sag, the straps are pretty serious business. The big ones they offer are 35mm, 6m long and the ratchets are rated to something silly like up to 3 tons each. I've tested it in real winds and seen people online say they've left them out in storm force just to see what would happen and it was fine. The floor is a little squish anyway I guess with enough pressure even when the overall thing doesn't sag, it's nylon/poly, but I don't find it awkward. One could add extra stiffener but that'd add even more weight. Which is one of two real issues:
- You need some real trees or some equivalent for it to work, they recommend like a 40cm diameter minimum.
- The bigger models are heavy, like 11kg. No problem if you're not going far from a vehicle or pull sled in the winter but obviously sucks up most capacity of a pack for going far. It's meant for multiple people. They make an "ultralight" model but it's still 5kg, and squishier.

Setup/takedown is an easy solo job honestly, there are videos on youtube if you want to see it. But again, ain't light. If you're driving a logging road then only going a few km further into the woods fine, or if it's going to be setup long enough (like a long weekend) to justify a couple trips back and forth great but otherwise eh.

Also you will want a real sleeping bag or foam pad in colder times, the bottom isn't insulated itself or anything. It's a niche item but it tickles something for me.

I'm embarrassed to say I haven't done that in terms of actually sleeping in it on the ground for a night. But I think the issue with the main tent might be the floor material isn't ground rated. The structure is pretty normal, just two thin aluminum poles so that's fine. I know though that they sell a "ground conversion kit", guy at the store mentioned it, basically a heavy duty ground sheet and some pegs. I don't remember how much they are but it wasn't a lot, <10% the cost of the actual tent, and wasn't heavy either. I think one could just jury rig their own frankly. But I figured if I was going somewhere I wasn't sure of I'd just use a normal tent so I didn't get it, sorry anon can't tell you how well it works.
