Going as cheap as I can, I can reload target ammo with coated lead bullets for about 60 cpr. That's still, not great. I'm really understanding why .357 is so much more popular

I'm looking for a shooting 1911. Is Sprongfield the best for the money? I'm thinking RIA is too janky, Colt is overpriced, and the fancy ones are out of my budget.

Thats great man, I'm waiting for my USP 40 to ship.
I've had my USP45 for years and I love that gun so much but the USP 40 is the only .40 I ever really wanted as my go to .40 gun, even though I have a police trade in M&P 40.

I personally really like the Desert Eagle and it’s caliber swapping system, it’s a few seconds of swapping barrels, bolts, and magazines but they handle all the mainstream magnum calibers quite well. I also have an Anaconda and Gp100, both are very fun.

I had to get bigger wrap around grips since the stock ones were a little small, and the exposed backstrap started to get painful after 100ish .44 magnum loads.

No, you need the CCW card to buy and start the DROS, else you pay $25 to take the Firearms Safety Certificate test (it expires every 5 years). THEN you need to pay an approved DOJ vendor to qualify you for that gun, THEN you pay your county sheriff/local PD $35 or so to modify your existing CCW license.
>>
>>65074167
ive never done it that way i guess. what county are you in? i'm assuming you already have a gun for the CCW anyways?
... and ccw permits expire every two years why are you that adamant about avoiding the safety cert?
>>

Alameda (but not through the sheriff).
>i'm assuming you already have a gun for the CCW anyways?
Yes, and it will be all SAs now because I'm going to fall for a 4chang meme again.
>why are you that adamant about avoiding the safety cert?
Because I'm literally getting the license this week. I wish the 'ech spammer started earlier so I wouldn't have to do a modification.
>>
>>65074237
understandable. just seems sort of odd to worry about a test that works for 5 years and costs 25 bucks vs a test that costs 10x and only lasts for 2 years.
who or how are you getting the permit if not through the sheriff btw? i'm in butte county i think we have one of the more forgiving systems to get ours. really gay they upped the renewal hours to 8, half the class is shilling for insurance or range time or some other bullshit because there really isn't that much to talk about in the classroom.

I want a 9mm 1911 for target shooting. Would a RIA be a good starting point to modify into a target gun?
>Why not 45?
Because 9mm is cheaper and there is less recoil.
>>
>>
>>
>>65074337
9mm 1911 are awesome to shoot, carrying 1911s is a fashion statement and way suboptimal anyways so you might as well get the best shooting caliber. I would get one with rear adjustable target sights and high viz front. Dan Wesson PM9 is probably the ideal, but Tisas and Springfield have similar models. Avoid cerakote like the plague.

Anyone have any ideas for good custom grip companies?
I want to essentially do the same as the Strike Witches pistol here, but with a different unit emblem and for a Hi-Power (specifically a MAC L9A1)
So it will be something inlaid into the wood and built up more than this plastic
It would have to be a company that can combine different parts like that and not just do engraved wood only

Not really. Depends what you mean. The quality of their slides and frames never really dropped. Superb slide to frame fit and finishing. Colt slide stop pins are good.
They fuck up just about everything else. Lazily fit barrels, poorly tuned extractors, bad thumb safeties, loose grip safeties with laughably loose tolerances around the tangs. bad sears and disconnectors. bad spring selections.
You have to look at a Colt as a project gun. Contrary to what people say Colt 1911s have been ass out of the box since at least the early 80s. I would not buy a GCNM unless you are in love with blueing for some reason, they are really not good enough for bullseye shooting. Buy a Tisas and handfit a Kart/Barsto/Nowlin/Nighthawk/Remsport match barrel and bushing on it, get a drop in ignition set from anywhere.

All of these and all the ones I am finding so far seem to only do engraving directly into the wood, or just put something in silver or gold
Would there be somewhere that could make something actually colorful and put it in there?
Looks like most gun medallions are just uncolored metal
Or would I have to get it made by itself and then somehow put into wood grips (I don’t even know what type of shop would do that)

I shoot decent volume 9mm, and i don’t want hard calluses all over my hands. im not gay i just don’t like how they look or feel. i got a little worried with all the dry fire that high pressure contact points would callus but im not putting on gloves on and off all day when i get free time for dry fire.
>>
>>65075049
>I shoot decent volume 9mm, and i don’t want hard calluses all over my hands.
What gun are you shooting? I can't imagine wearing gloves unless it was freezing cold outside. Wearing gloves drastically decreases the contact area, and friction between the gun and your hands. When you use your hands for manual tasks they get a little beat up, that's life. Have you ever seen the hands of someone that does manual labor day-in, day-out? Part of getting better at things is literally and metaphorically building up a little bit of a callous on yourself.
>>
>>65075065
vp9, usually 200 rounds every 5-7 days but sometimes my range buddy and i shoot 300 each if we don’t have time constraints.
>have you seen working hands
yeah but i don’t want hands like that, i was kinda worried i’d still get calluses through the gloves but so far no problem spots besides my dominant hand’s middle finger.

Try asking the Finnish guy gungrips.org. He made P220 anon's Kanagawa Wave grips and does customs, most of his stuff is wood but he did make these Beretta anniversary grips with an embedded silver medallion.

I thought it was the most colorful example of his work.
For sourcing a medal by itself search for custom pins/buttons/challenge coins and see who does something small enough for gun grips. There's a billion stores on etsy alone who'll make stuff like that. Pin and challenge coin makers are probably your best bet for the Noble Witches logo to get the borders on the top and bottom of the circle properly shaped and not just as one big circle. Or 3D print it get it painted if you don't care about it being metal.
>>
>>65074337
>>65074341
>Just lift and reload.
There is no amount of lifting that makes .45 ACP have the same, or less recoil than a 9mm. Reloading 9mm is always cheaper than reloading .45 ACP.
>>65074357
>Avoid cerakote like the plague.
True and based advice.
>>65074404
>Ye, I want to do bullseye shooting.
Then you may well want a .45 ACP 1911. You should look into all the rules and classifications for Bullseye shooting before deciding on a purchase.

It add one to two mils surface build-up to anything you apply it to. Not suitable for a tight frame to slide fit. It's just a fancy paint and not really a good firearm finish anyway. Paint is a cheap cope finish for most firearms.

“Why do you handload your ammo”?
Pic related….
Fwiw 500 bushwacker is like 140$ for 20 rounds…. However they sell the dies and share load data because the TII guys rock. That said my reload cost is between a buck and a buck fifty per round….
The contender is a wildcat in “50 Alaskan mag” so that’s technically priceless.. or at least impossible to just buy…. Finally got the reamer for the cases in and that’s gonna end up being a 450 gn .510 bullet at about 1300-1400 fps…

hack for calluses, but i prefer tac-lab reapers because the grippy texture and how thin they are in the palm. i haven’t had any calluses develop except for a very small patch of skin on my dominant hand’s middle finger because of them.

Ehhh, I guess it's possible. You're body will tell you when you are doing actual damage. In the past I've had slight finger joint pain from a lot of gripper training, but nothing that doing some lower weight grippers, and reverse rubber bands for recovery didn't make go away. You can always overdo anything by being an idiot.

It's prone to that, but only because muscle strength grows far faster than ligament strength in general. If you build up over the course of months/years and aren't an unga bunga retard about it then it's fine.

Doing this exercise would put strain on your tendons, not your ligaments, and it would actually be strengthening your tendons not weakening them, unless you overdo it and try jumping into a grip strength trainer you aren't ready for without any progression. I have the #1 gripper and it is not even that much, 140lbs of grip strength should be the BASELINE for any man, nowhere even close to causing permanent damage.

Oh nice! I'm friends with the best baker in Austria and have friends in the Austrian military who have guns. They're always telling me to buy bigger bore stuff haha
I am lucky enough to have a friend that reloads all my expensive/obscure shit but I don't know how popular reloading is in Austria
>>
>>65076588
I dont know that either. But probably nit too uncommon. Saw lots of reloading stuff in the shop yesterday. We have here alot of hunters so mixing your own stuff for your hunting style tends to be somewhat common. Especially if you like here shoot at 80p yards or more and dont wamt to search 3 hours where that fucker went off after you tagged him. Also after a while he convinced me into an .308 HK (or steyr arms). Sinde i was playing with the idea of getting a 5.56 but i told him i prefer bigger rounds juuuuust in case. I almost got weak fingerfucking the kriss vector, but it was in .22 lr.

I looked into the rules from the CMP. The 9mm 1911 wouldn't qualify for 1911 matches, but would work for Service Pistol matches. This works out for me since I want a funny tab anyhow. However I think I am just going to use my M9 or M9A1 and turn it into a target gun. Roddy Toyota accurizes 92s by putting a threaded barrel on with a spacer on the threading to take up the slop between the slide and barrel. Was also going to get pic related from Beret. Might also get an LTT trigger upgrade.

I can vouch for the Osight SE. I got one for free and was expecting it to suck, but it's great. Multiple reticles, nice window with clear glass, and it's never lost zero. I don't see why these haven't gained much traction.
>>
>>65076703
Man I don’t care what you buy. I just don’t like shake awake. I’ve had times where I looked down the sight and there was no dot because I didn’t shake it enough so I had to rattle the gun to get it to turn on. I’d rather just leave it on and buy more batteries.

How good is the warranty? Ive never had to send an optic in under warranty before, but I have broken an olight and they replaced it no questions asked, so I'm assuming their optic warranties are good as well. Pretty sure it had a "transferable lifetime warranty."

Vortex has a lifetime guarantee, and as long as your item is legit, vortex will take it for warranty repair/replacement no questions asked. When they upgraded their defender line (14h to 10 minute shutoff; less flicker) I got an older model. I contacted them and replaced it with the refreshed model at no cost. Now I have three defender ccws
>osight now has lifetime warranty
I returned a 3 year old olight and they replaced it free of charge. I did not know osight also has lifetime warranty.

45 GAP was good, it was essentially 45 ACP but shorter and with more pressure. It failed, and it shows if 45 ACP was a new cartridge instead of historical one, it would fail too.
30S and 41 were models we got to replace 45 GAP. They are now discontinued also.
>>
>>65077084
>45 GAP was good, it was essentially 45 ACP but shorter and with more pressure.
It also used a 17/22 width frame IIRC, which was also part of the selling point. A .45 that could replace .40 in a .40 sized package (gun).
