I hate Gato and Japan's hardon madlust for him. Gato was a complete and total dickwad. I hate Kou too, he's not better in any sense of the word. I hate Nina as well, what a terrible character. I hate most of 0083's story and crew.

And I hate the Japanese creator's hate on for both those two characters. They continually get crapped on all the time. They were some, actually well written, characters. Beatrix is actually more evil in the LN, even if the anime version seems more openly sadistic. LN Beatrix was pretty much dead inside underneath the glamour. She didn't give a fuck about anything except her goals, and was willing to kill thousands without care to achieve them, herself included. VN Beatrix is the nicest overall, losing a lot of her LN versions atrocities. As for Lise, the LN version's torture of the 666th was way worse (including rape). Again, the VN version drops that shit, but incorporates some of the more sympathetic traits that the anime decided to drop. The VN version would never kill Theo while he's "downed" like the anime version tried to. In fact, it's implied she shouts the deranged shit at Theo during her execution to get him to go through with it (the rebels were forcing him to shoot her as a loyalty test). Also, a lot of the more dubious actions of the rebels are also ignored in the anime (like not taking prisoners, being very okay with collateral damage and friendly fire, or staging the rebellion in the middle of a major BETA offensive).

From a meta perspective, nobody is more vulnerable than a villainess. Also, they're usually shown with the capacity to be legitimately affectionate towards a man, or at the very least, you don't really learn whether she is or not. So you've got a vulnerable, affectionate, and often sensual woman. Those that show that they'll always weaponize men's affection against them are less popular.

This is why men love villainesses in fiction but don't line up around the courtroom for the real thing like women do with evil men, and it's also why they become less hot when they turn good, even when all other things remain the same (they've lost that meta-vulnerability). And it's also why fodder girls get outsized followings regardless of whether they're good, evil, or somewhere in between. In a sense, you could say that a villainess is a fodder girl with more screentime and story relevance.

It can be a lot of things, depending on the character. With heroines, there's an unspoken expectation that the girl needs to be morally pure and uncompromising. This can be done in an interesting way when it's written around properly. I think Satsuki from Kill la Kill is a good example. She acts as the antagonist for the first cour, but that's only because Ryuuko (and the viewer) isn't fully aware of her plans. But most of the time, it makes for rather one-dimensional characters who are unable to do anything that could be seen as morally compromising. Even though these compromises and contradictions are what make fictional characters feel real to us. Villainesses, on the other hand, have no such expectation of purity. They're really only expected to oppose the protagonist in some way. This gives them quite a bit of maneuverability that heroines don't often have, and a much greater potential for nuanced characterization. A boring villain-of-the-week can be turned into a memorable character with the addition of a few sympathetic traits. When we add a male protagonist into the mix, as is often the case in mecha, sexual tension becomes a major factor into how a character is written and how she interacts with the rest of the cast. Even though Haman has very few direct interactions with Judau, she leaves a remarkable impression on him and vice versa. I'm only speaking in generalizations of course. I'm sure you can find a thousand examples of characters that do the opposite of what I'm describing.
