-=READ THE GUIDES=-
Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!
For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!
For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!
And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.
>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-= ACE CUSTOM GROUPBUILD =-
Build, customize, and paint a grunt mobile suit up for use by an ace pilot.
>You are taking the role of the Ace Pilot here - You're making the design choices when it comes to loadout, paint scheme, and suit customizations.
>Think about what your Ace specializes in, is he all in on offensive power, speed and maneuverability, or bulk and defense?
>While your pilot is an ace, he's not so special that he's getting super secret prototypes like Gundams or Mobile Armors. Keep your grunt relatively grounded to whatever setting it's from.
Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Retail. Fuckin' retail! I thought this guy is 100% gonna be P-Bandai because it's a pair of remolds. Consider this a draw, Bandai. Now I have something I want to get among the Hathaway's Flash stuff.
>>23734562
>>23734564
Well worth 30 years of waiting. We get the Leopard in August, but at the same time, they will announce the Leopard Destroy as P-Bandai next week so that those enthusiasts will get both flavors. Though my only real concern is that this guy will be more advanced than his brothers (and there's still the pair of RG GX+Divider Option and DX to be concerned about, on top of how we could even get a new G-Falcon because the Limited Model version is impossible to find at present).

Brother, we will get the GX at the end of the year. Divider option parts will be P-Bandai, much like the Akatsuki's Shiranui Pack. And to top it off, I honestly want to say, the RG will give the Under the Moonlight Rick Aller Custom its worth because of the limited issues the HG had.

You know the most ballsy kind of move? Release Virsago and Chest Break as one single kit you can change its chest with, especially because the Virsago kit had once been converted to the Chest Break with shared parts. The Ashtaron is gonna be difficult because the Ashtaron Hermit Crab is a complete overhaul with 50% of the original being left over.

Nu has 3 vents. So, Xi's new Gundam face reverted to the traditional, RX-78-2-style, lead Gundam face.
And again, there's still no Funnel Missile parts included. Those are still exclusive onto that HGUC Xi Vs Penelope special set.
>>
>>
>>23734610
Still grounds to release the Virsago and Chest Break as one single kit with the chest being the only major change. Missed out on the head, though. Now, the Ashtaron is gonna have a massive mod job in the form of an entirely new backpack (the claws that are part of the backpack already are different, on top of adding the optional Satellite Launcher), feet, skirts, and probably forearm and ankle armor parts.

if they made an mg they'd have to go above and beyond to not ridicule themselves with the comparison, it's just not worth the risk with the engineering involved
plus everyone who wanted a big bellpepper already bought the osiris which is bound to be better value
going with the fresh popular line is a safe bet that avoids competition while still acknowledging demand kinda

Ordering from there is always a gamble. The only way to avoid the total shit sellers is not to buy from where that has under a 4.5/4.6 rating. Most of the reviews are botted so if you somehow manage to get under a 4.5 rating then it means they're total dogshit. Regardless of who you buy from, it's also a gamble if the box enters the royal rumble and eats 15 top rope elbows or not.
>>
>>23735046
1. Search for the kit you want. It might take a few tries since most of the sellers are Chinese and they toss all sorts of keywords in to maximize exposure. Bootlegs also obviously have to use various pseudonyms because they don't want to advertise themselves as official products.
2. Once you find what you want, scroll down to the "Related Items" sub-section to see if another seller is selling the same thing but cheaper. It's a decent way to check for competitors if they don't show up in your initial search.
3. Find a seller you would trust, generally by large number of good ratings, check under the price to see if it includes import charges (i.e. tariffs), and check to see if shipping is covered in the cost. Generally you want to aim for the one that has the lowest combination of advertised price and shipping, but sometimes you won't have a choice.
I don't know if I've just been lucky, but I've never had an Ali buy go wrong that wasn't my fault (put in the wrong shipping address). But then again, I go in anticipating that things can and will go wrong, and with the knowledge that my money may full well be completely wasted. So, I mainly stick to buying small stuff and accessories that won't be a big deal if it ends up going south.

From what I can tell, they take the original kit, reverse-engineer how Bandai made them (probably use 3D scanners and such), and make their own molds where the parts are 95% similar but with new layouts. But since they don't have Bandai's know-how, their kits end up being inferior with fitting issues, flash, and all that jazz. The way I think about it, you're paying around 50-60% of the cost for a kit that's about 80% of the quality, so as long as you're okay with doing your own fixing up afterward, you'll probably end up with something that's about 90-95% as good as the real thing.
That being said, I stick mainly to buying aftermarket parts rather than full-on bootlegs unless it's something that's just absolutely not available or stupidly overpriced (MG Jesta Cannon, HG Moon Gundam, RE/100 Gundam Mk-III). The aftermarket stuff is usually done by people who have better engineering know-how since they're fixing existing problems with the Bandai kits (things like metal shoulder parts, improved joints, etc.).

Finding the correct item can be annoying sometimes due to keywords gore. They slap "Bandai" on literally everything.
Sometimes the specific kit you're looking for might be hidden as a variant of a more generic listing for that line.
So be ready to juggle both ultra specific search term like exact name of the model and generic ones like "Gundam 1/144 HG".
Ideally seller should have the score around 90%+ and plenty of sales. If it's below 80 you might want to check other listings to see what's the problem, maybe it's just some retards dropping 1s for cancelled orders or scratched boxes.
Having review with pics for your particular item or others from the same series is obviously a big reassurance too but if none available you get the general picture of whether the seller is legit from their other items' reviews.

Still learning how to airbrush. Second kit I’m painting with it. Been using acrylics but they keep chipping. Would it be better to top coat each individual part?
I may be moving onto enamels but I need to research more. It’s been really fun, with rattle cans I just prime and spray but with the airbrush I need to thin the paint, get the right PSI, keep the airbrush clean.

Yes! It looks so good but the seamlines are very thick even when I push as hard as I can there is still a noticeable gap. And it’s very expensive for what you get. It’s mostly abs so my usual plastic cement was not working too well. When I was putting everything together the seams broke open.

Yes, acrylics are as durable as tissue paper. Don't even touch the surface, let alone manipulate it for assembly, until it's been top-coated.
>I may be moving onto enamels but I need to research more.
1:1 with hardware store lacquer thinner, and it runs through your airbrush smooth as silk. The only downside is that it takes a very long time to dry and cure, so any pieces that you paint will be sitting on their clips for at least half a day.

Pretty big idea regarding a P-Bandai HGAW G-Falcon: Designed to combine with both HG and RG Gundams from the Gundam X series, the G-Falcon is fully transformable with joint parts to combine with all versions of the GX and DX, Leopard and Airmaster with trick clips and special joints. It will also come with extra weapons originally included with the 1/100 High Grades (DX's Twin Beam Sword, Rocket Launcher, G-Hammer, and Beam Javelin, Leopard Destroy's Heat Axe, and Airmaster Burst's Missile Rifle). Lastly, to add the "Premium" in being a P-Bandai release, it will also come with the G-Falcon Delta back cover that replaces the standard nozzle flaps. When the RG GX Rick Aller Custom gets made, it will be followed by the G-Falcon Rosa II Colors.

Update: what an awful website.
I had a cart full of 99c items, and was jump scared by the notice about the new user sale only being applicable to one item, making the total cost of the cart go up 10x. Then it sent me through a gauntlet of those buy 1 get 1 free, and buy 3 get free shipping pages, where the applicable items are randomly generated. There, I found a few of the things I wanted for the cheap, but once I made it to the payment page, the kit I wanted disappeared from the cart.
I'm guessing the chinks recognized my information from an old aliexpress account I had, and revoked my deals.

Man.. i'm about to get super 4chan here BUT..
Or they just pulled the rug out like they were going to do from the start. Business with China is shifty as fuck. They just love to lure people in with promises of low cost and high quality and once you get to the point of no return the do the whole rug pull thing and hope you're frustrated/desperate and committed enough to just say "fuck it" follow through.I know two different people that said learning mandarin was the worst mistake they ever made because they got sent to do business in China and it's just a nightmare.
>>
>>23735704
The chinese see scamming people as a virtue. They think that if you can steal from someone you're a better person than them for it. Everything makes sense when you view it from the angle that they think stealing and lying are a good thing.

So, how many of the parts do you think they'll be able to recycle from this thing? Besides the head, some of the torso, parts of the skirt, the biceps and the thighs, most of the rest looks like it's going to have to be new molds. Hell, there seem to be enough small differences that it may well need to be almost entirely new molds (look at the cover over the power gem for example, it's squared on the Da Vinci but completely round on the original.

I'd recommend the DSPIAE, had it for four years now and its still as good as new (albeit some rust). Its known for being "stronger" than the other single bladed nippers like godhands. I'm not sure about the Stedi one but it probably isn't bad, Stedi seems like a solid (new) brand

Yes. And I legit love mine despite it being way overkill for my nooblet skill level and I've been looking for an excuse to gush about them so thanks for that. I was going to get just the file but they didn't have just the file on the site I was buying stuff from, just this set. So like an idiot I paid extra for the set. I'm super glad I did. Not only is this file the tits, the sponge is double tits and is so good at evening out the shine over all my parts. Like I give everything a quick scrub with it and no more shiny spots while others are dull. It all has the same luster. One side keeps things kind of matte but still looks good, the other side gets everything bright and shiny.I see no difference with the cloth, though. Like I keep trying it and not seeing any difference no matter what combination of steps I take. So the cloth is whatever, but the glass file and the balancer sponge? Damn near magic. I'm happy with the 45 bucks I coughed up for this. It even came with 3 extra balancer sponges for when this one gets chewed up. Love them.

I think the raser is 2000 grit. I'm not seeing any diamond files with a grit that fine. I mean maybe, I just did a quick Google search and clicked a few links, but they don't seem common enough for a quick pickup. That raser is 25 bucks on its own. That's really cheap for "the premium best of the best" purpose built tool. There are a hundred different options all with their own pros and cons, but 25 bones for "the best" is cheap enough to be a "might as well grab one" purchase. I'm not trying to push them or claim they are the best, I really don't have enough experience in this hobby to make that claim, but that is just the general reaction that I see when people start talking about them.
>>
>>
>>
>>
So I'm not trying to kick the hornets nest and throw in an uno reverse card and NO U for the sake of shitposting. I'm genuinely curious because I see the posting in the threads go back and forth on them.
Does anyone have a glass file and NOT like them? If so, what one did ya get and what's your complaint about them? I see plenty of people praising them and why they like them, I see plenty of people shit on glass files, but I don't think I've seen anyone shit on glass files and say why they don't like them. Why don't you like glass files? I'm legit curious, tell me about it.
>>
>>23736836
I own the stedi glass files. They cut kind of funny and I don't like the surface finish. The corners also love to bite into whatever I'm working on. And they clog fast. I get much nicer results just using sandpaper strips and some files I got from harbor freight for 2 dollars.
>>
>>23736836
I have the DSpiae siren and have never fallen in love with it. I use it sometimes but I could easily get by without it. I like godhand sanding sponges the most of any sander for when I'm doing actual work, if I just want to snap something godhands and a hobby knife clean up everything.
>>
>>23736836
I have one and I love it, but I'll complain about it a little for the sake of balance. I have a Raser. Origin I think. Whatever their flagship is. Despite it being a super fine "grit", it can still be aggressive. It's super easy to accidentally round corners or file too much of a spot off. With Sandpaper I could just go ape and usually be fine. With a glass file I have to be careful and mindful of the angles I'm cutting at. Also it can be tricky to use on outside curves. Trying to file in a curved motion takes A LOT of practice. It can't get into tight inside curves or corners either. For curves and corners sanding sponges are king. Past that though, the file is great. And you can own both. The glass file gets 95% of the gates and sponges pick up the last 5%. A lot of what I'm pointing out is just a case of "git gud, noob" but learning a tool can take a while. Still, since I got that glass file I've completely stopped gluing sandpaper to popsicle sticks and the only time I pick up an emery board is to get the bulk off safety flags and clean up the rest with the glass file.
Also of you're roughing up surfaces to hold paint, the file is useless. Sponges and paper is your go-to. I haven't used the file on something that has been painted but I have no doubt that would end in disaster so you'll wana go back to sandpaper and sponges.
I hope that adds a little balance and tempers expectations. Feel free to add your 2 cents.

I have the base for my gogg ground type planned out. I think I may be contrarian and build it a shoulder cannon. And I might put some spikes on the opposite shoulder. As it is, I am happy with the colors. I also want to give it a larger backpack to help it move on land.
>>
>>23736836
Well, I have a DSPIAE one and I like how it leaves smooth finish while removing plastic pretty fast, but sharp edges are a problem since it limits what surfaces you can safely clean with it. There's a risk of leaving "claw marks" if you tilt it.
Also due to how easily it removes plastic I still prefer sanding sponges for more delicate areas.
Also its diagonal grooves limit the strokes direction and it has really nasty feel if you accidentally move it "along the grain".
Clogging doesn't bother me, it's fairly easy to clean.
It's a great tool but I'm feeling cucked by the nub placement quite often.

>>
>>23736858
Oh. And file clogging. The file does get clogged pretty quick but in my kit I have a 89 cent finger nail brush I picked up when I grabbed emery boards. I just have that laying on the desk when I'm building. After I file off a gate I give it a quick scrub with the brush before putting it back down and its good to go. I have had a few stubborn clogs but nothing that grinding the brush along at an angle hasn't cleared. So there is the one extra step. Past that I'm happy with it. I'm not the most experienced in the hobby but that's what I've come across in the last 4 or 5 models.
>>
>>23736874
I like the big feet it has. I was thinking of not using the propellers and putting thrusters in there like a rick dom. I want to retain as much of the gogg as possible to make it look like something which has been getting cobbled back together and upgraded for a long time. I also want to avoid it looking like it's ever had major damage.
I think the goal is to place it on mars, around UC 115 with it's new pilot. Right before mars zeon becomes a major problem.
Maybe I'll build onto the legs to add extra thrusters. I do have a lot of zaku parts around which I could use.

I could easily see it just being a handful of thrusters strapped around the legs with some armour plating over them, nothing fancy or signfiicantly redesigned. Think like Uma's Gelgoog maybe. Some thrusters in the shoulders pointed down might work too. In general just hovering equipment? That's the route I'd take anyways. Cool idea. I feel like a cannon is a strange idea on a Gogg but I'd like to see it.

That's why I was thinking of using zaku parts to make them. It seems like something which would be easy, in universe, for a zeon ace pilot to get a hold of for their fucked up gogg. I want it to feel like something constantly iterated on over decades so some weird stuff might end up on it to solve a specific problem. A shoulder cannon is a ranged weapon that's a lot less commitment to fire than the ones in the waist. It's a solution to it not having normal hands to hold a beam rifle. Maybe it'll be some kind of net launcher to incapacitate foes so that it can close in with the claws. Think of it as an evil tee shirt cannon.
My thought process is what changes I would need to make a gogg which has been removed from the seas of earth to make it remain a threat.

Maybe some smaller calibre weapon mounted on the back of one of the claw hands? Something for when the situation doesn't call for you to fire up the belly particle cannons but you want to spray a bit of lead.

Yellow accents on hands are cool.
Thighs and belly being the same color make it look like he's wearing a green diaper.

Right now I'm looking for options part sets but the options for 1/100 are pretty limited.

The color pattern is based on the jurick. The waist and legs being lighter is also the default gogg color scheme.

Looking at the jurick again, I might add some black parts. I think the white decals I intend to put there would look really good on black.
I also realized I have a whole guncannon gun in the right scale around from a project I did a while back. I also have a ton of the little leg thrusters from chars zaku around I could pepper around the legs. I'd just need to drill holes in the armor to put them in. It's an easy way to pepper around reverse thrusters.
I might make the cannon barrel out of a zaku bazooka. I have a lot of them around. I can also use the rear end of the bazookas as more serious thrusters. I have also changed the thrusters and vents to gold.
Here's where I'm at, currently.

Its starting to grow on me just like the Xi/Penelope did. It looks like a disgusting frankenstein but when you see it more, it has its charms and its been awhile since Bandai released something that is designed like this.

PGU is a satisfying build. Just need to get decals and a clear coat on mine to finish it.

Honestly the original PG was still too detailed
The old 1/60 kit is still the best looking one of the lot with a few modifications

Finished building the net cannon and thruster out of a zaku leg and bazooka. I also had the extra thruster from a zeong to use. It'll be mounted to the stock backpack. I might not use it for the gogg though. Depends how the cannon fits over the shoulder.
