I couldn't finish my video in time for the last thread, but here it is. The continuation for my Plushmancer Workshop 101 panel on Mare Fair.
This is simple pattern with a step by step video guide on how to make a mini 3.5" Anonfilly plushie from scratch, no sewing experience required. I designed it to be an introduction to sewing and plush making.

You can download the free pattern here:

And if you couldn't attend, I also have pre-embroidered kits at my shop, I want these to be available for anyone so I offer them as name your price, anything extra goes towards funding new projects.

Get a cheap sewing/embroidery machine. last I checked a new one was about $380 at walmart.
Shannon minky cuddle 3 is the go-to for most, but felt or fleece can be cheaper for practice. Amazon has been shit for fabric ever since they shut down fabric.com and Joanne's is dead. Howl fabric is the best place I've found that carries most colors, but you need to buy in bulk to make shipping reasonable.
Also learn a ladder stitch.

Is it going to be multiplayer or against a machine? Or both?
>>
>>42815453
Just multiplayer for now, making a chess AI that also takes spells and stats into account is a little bit above my pay grade atm haha. Would definitly love to do some kind of campaign (á la Hearthstone perhaps) to flesh out the lore a little bit at some point though, but that's for the future.

Id recommend something cheap to start with so you don't waste money like the huion Inspiroy. It doesn't have a screen but that's why its cheap. There's cheaper out there like this if you look. But, if you want a screen, a multi-use case would be like a galaxy s6 tablet. Its around $200 but you can use it for other things and draw anywhere

My local library has pretty nice filament 3D printer, so I figured I'd try and print out some Zomboid ponies into physical objects. I'm currently prepping them with a base coat of matt black spray paint and we'll see what becomes of them next. I haven't painted in probably over a decade, so do wish me luck.

thanks for the rec. i looked at a video of someone using a tablet (like the galaxy) as a drawing tablet connected to pc, but the delay was so absurd itd drive me nuts.
have only ever used one screenless tablet and couldn't handle the "disconnect" between hand and screen" but to be fair that was an old crappy tablet and years ago.
>>42820169
wouldn't the easiest way of doing it be to print them in white and then use model paints? at least thats what I always assumed
>>
File: image1.png (2.2 MB)
2.2 MB PNG
>>42820861
Probably the best course of action, yes. Although I don't believe the library had any white filament available. There was yellow, pink, red, and wine off the top of my head. Maybe if I decide to visit again I'll ask them though as that'd be a good idea to see.
I came in to pick them up yesterday and they brought in another printer that uses resin, they were telling me people mainly use it for wargaming figurines. But it might be a decent idea to start with.
I need to sand off some of these excess paint droplets tomorrow and then begin the painting process.

There's no plushie thread up rn so imma post here.
What the FUCK am I doing wrong? I'm trying so hard to embroider and my thread keeps breaking anywhere between 5 and 30 stitches. It's just the blue ones too. Using Sew-Ology 40wt cause that's what was in the embroidery rack in Hobby Lobby.
Im using a Brother SE700 combo embroidery and sewing machine I bought so I could do the embroidery for my /ss/ gift, but holy shit is this the most infuriating thing I've ever had to deal with. The sewing isnt even that hard. The only thing that's stopping me from shipping this present today is the simple fact that I'm incapable of shipping a shitty product and the cutie mark is the last thing I need to embroider.
Any plushie makers have recommended thread that they buy? The manual recommends 60wt, but the white, black, and grey options are all 40wt and worked perfectly fine. Are needles important? My needles all say ORGAN(?) 90/14 except for the one that came in the machine which just says 25mm.

It wouldn't know what to do with the cards, or how a "pawn with +2/+2" is different from a normal pawn. Though maybe you could get by just having the AI play a cards completely at random but make its moves according to a proper chess AI
>>
>>42825511
>>42825700
I will probably end up modifying some existing chess AI to take spells and stats into account. Several games have solved similar problems by allowing the AIs to be pretty dumb but giving them an overpowered set of spells/abilities/perks/etc.
Or maybe by the time it's time to make a campaign for this game some other autist has found it and solved the problem for me lmao

I think this is the most I'll provide for the base bible for what direction you're supposed to go in regardless of setting. You can provide the new characters, locations, bestiary, magic system yourselves. You can add any minutae detail such as unicorn bleeding silver and pegasi who knows what.
The base ideas for the atmosphere and importance of contrasts and why most of these kind of shows work and what not to do to not ruin them is what I wanted to get across.
NEO Pegasus is a Cyberpunk themed My Little Pony Roleplaying Game. Similar to other games like Dungeons and Dragons or ShadowRun, taking inspiration from Cyberpunk, Ponies, and other stuff like Borderlands.

Today's progress, need a few more coats on a few of their... coats. But I should be able to start on their manes and such tomorrow. This has been a decent learning experience, I haven't painted since middle school and these are my first ever 3D printed bits and bobs. Lots to learn still.
>>
>>
>>42828692
I made them myself, they're mainly for a mod on Project Zomboid, but I've had a few people showcase that they can be 3D printed so I figured I'd try it myself.
If you wanted to use them, feel free to plunder through the files and snag the ones you want. You'll just have to convert them to be .stl which is pretty simple.

Maybe try a simple project. I made a quick mock up, It would be very similar to your game, but it might teach you some new things about signals, tracking integers and reinforce what you’ve already learned.
For example: you'll need a way to generate money, a money sink, and of course a way for the pony to have fun or something. Be creative with it, and most importantly, have fun.

Working on a ToonBoom puppet. Getting the nose, open mouth, and jaw to smoothly transition from front view to three-quarters has been exceptionally difficult. Here's the latest I've come up with, and I'm happy with the result. My new approach to these parts of the face should be flexible enough to accommodate a variety of mouth shapes. It will just take a lot of time to draw all of them and put in the deformers.

She's one of my favorite ponies, I just had to make her. Thankfully she's also fairly simple in terms of detailing so she's just about done. The Applejacks are proving the most troublesome. I'll definitely be using a white base and primer if I decide to do these again.

There are a few in the worlditems folder too, some are more recent than others and so are more detailed with their model - I've been slowly updating the old ones. I do these for fun so feel free to use them for anything.

Well, guess I'll share a little bit of my progress. A few months later after ABBA-cover, I didn't record any new songs, but I came up with lyrics for 3 more new, lol.
In the song by Modern Talking, I really wanted to use Cherry Berry as the main character first, but the song turned out to be about a background pony who washes down her problems with wine. So now it's Berry Punch (and I still had to go with Berryshine for better sounding).

Base 50 inch mare is $1400, but in the case of Trixie you have these huge accessories, so it's closer to $2000. Mares with complex manes can be a bit more expensive. There are also other optional things like magnetic eyelids that alter expressions.

I've painted a few trench crusade models as practice before but thats my first large figure.
I tend to get pretty shakey when painting as well so i drink while i do it to steady up a bit.

It's just a cheap little phrozen 4k mini.
I use standard esun resin and it seems to go all right, I'm new to it so i get lots of random failures.

This looks great! A show accurate 360 rig is something I've wanted for years. Being able to make show accurate animations with SFM type controls would result in much more pony content being made. I've thought a lot about an open-world Equestria game that plays just like an episode (if a 360 rig can be done in animation, why can't it be a model in a game?). Glad to see someone making real progress with this, getting us closer to the dream™. Just slightly disappointed that it has to rely on Harmony, I tend to hate SaaS-type stuff, even if it can be plundered. I know there's nothing quite like it, hence why they can get away with their pricing.
I tried some proof of concept stuff a while ago, although I understand Flash isn't the environment for something so advanced. Toon Boom it is then.

> I understand Flash isn't the environment for something so advanced
m8, the show was made using it...
But, I get it, for amateur production, it's too much work.
And honestly, other software are probably better nowadays.
>>
>>42846941
I know that, I was actually referring to the 360 turnaround capabilities. Flash isn't the environment for that, it can't warp lines the way other software can. Shape tweens are limited in the sense that tweening on multiple axes is impossible. It's funny that Adobe could have added those capabilities since shape tweens already exist, they've had years to, yet didn't, indicating that they just don't care and would rather continue raking in Photoshop and After Effects subscription money just because they can.

Yeah that's good enough. Use an old shirt to practice a few times before fixing the plush, make sure you're putting the needle through the fabric itself and not through the fur loops, and try to get the thread color to match as close as possible.

Anonimators, I need advice/feedback/a second set of eyes/whatever.
I've been trying to work on a slight redesign of FiM's style, and I want to make OpenToonz (or similar) rigs in this style. My goal is to use puppeted rigs to speed up comic creation.
However, I'm making the initial reference art in Inkscape, and I am having a horrid time trying to get rotation to look right, mainly on 3/4 view so far. Profile view is the "gold standard" reference, as it was finished first.
Vid related is the rotational views, and I wanted to know if they look even remotely right, and if not, how the hell can I fix them without going crazy from brute force trial-and-error?
>>
>>
>>42856923
Not sure I'm the Anon you're thinking of. I haven't actually built any rigs. These are just Inkscape vectors at the moment.
I'm kind of hoping that the actual animator anons building rigs can lend wisdom.
>>
>>
>>
>>42856537
Dunno about any animation _plugins_, but if you're interested in animated Flash scenes, search for the Pony Preservation Project threads on desu. The "main doc" has a section on animation with some links.
>>
>>42856897
I like how that redesign's looking. It's close to show-style but with several features that make it unique. The darker-colored hooves, unshorn fetlocks, and slightly longer/bigger body make her feel more "solid" to me, which works well, especially for an Earth pony. I think the muzzle could be moved a bit more to the right in the 5/8 view and/or a bit more to the left in the 3/4 view so that it shifts the right amount as the head turns.
A more significant change I would suggest is rounding out the jaw/muzzle in 5/8 and 3/4 views. It might just be me, but IMHO, it's a bit too rectangular, which makes it read a little masculine to me. Female characters are often designed with rounder chins and smaller noses than their male counterparts. Your profile and front views look good in this regard; I only noticed it in the 5/8 and 3/4 views.

so i've made a modpack for minecraft 1.12.2 but as you probably know, Mine Little Pony doesnt work on Forge. i still wanted ponies though, so i've made a custom entity model pack for optifine that replaces villagers (as well as their autistic groans) with mares
i've based my model on the MineLP one but came up with some tweaks to make the ponies look better e.g. thinner legs, spine angle, tail is WIP.
the most complicated part is turning out to be the snout. the MineLP one is nice from the front but looks bad from the sides. i'm trying to make a cute one that looks closer to the show.
i've tried 4-voxel ones before but they look too wide or blocky if you got shaders. now, i simplified it to a 3x3 model which has the best proportions so far, but looks too smooth now. so i added some nostrils which look... okish but still something is a bit off, besides the fact that it now looks like Stradivarius' clop.
what do you guys think? what are they missing?
>>
>>42879543
i think you 100% went in the right direction going 3x3, i don't fully understand what you're talking about because im blatantly retarded but the 3x3 as it is in the image seems as good as it can get to me, im not sure what you mean by too smooth, maybe you've been staring at it so long that it looks funky to you in the same way listening to a good song on repeat starts to make it sound weird or repeating a normal word constantly makes it start to sound weird
regardless good fuckin work man, i need this mod plus a sex with villagers mod so i can breed with ponies and build a huge town, maybe even a big zombie mod so i have a challenge to fight and protect the town
would be fun as fuck since i get bored with normal MC progression
>>
>>42879543
forgot to mention, you're working with extremly limited resolution/pixels, going from 4 voxel to the 3x3 now is a massive difference, im not sure what else you could change to make it look better without making it a big change due to how big each pixel is

I've been working on a bit of a personal worldbuilding project for an original pony setting of mine. It isn't intended to be radically tonally different just more geared towards specifically a lighthearted fantasy adventure setting rather then vaguely fantasyish lighthearted slice of life yknow. Different magic system, more types of pones, idk. I've just finished the second draft of this bigass wall of text I've been writing on this rentry page as kind of a worldbuilding document for stuff I intend to do with the setting. I feel kinda proud of it. I feel a little self-indulgeant posting that kinda thing on here but idk hopefully you guys might find it cool.

Handbrake would probably help a lot. I guess 500 kB/s from pomf2.lain.la isn't all that slow, just slow for streaming that big a file. Using the "Very Fast 1080p30" setting in Handbrake and reducing the video quality very slightly I was able to get it down to 13.2 MB without a noticeable difference. Handbrake also has an option called "Web Optimized" for MP4s which is supposed to make it easier to stream. Here's a reup. Hopefully it prevents the error some people are seeing:

I just bought a 19 strings lyre because I heard that it's pretty easy to learn (and because I really like lyra) but I'm at a complete loss as to where to begin learning, I've never learned any instrument or music theory and I don't know the first thing about where to begin, does anyone has advice for how I should start learning?
>>
>>42893795
When I started learning piano (and later guitar) I just picked a song that I wanted to learn and kept at it until I got it. I played a bit as a kid so maybe it's harder when you are starting completely from scratch, but this approach is what worked for me. Also, share your progress in the thread. A lyre sounds super cool.
>>
>>42893800
this is how everyone should be doing it. too many fall for the belief that you can't learn something without a qualified teacher. it's how creative types have scammed people for years, charging to teach people who know nothing about music things like C#Maj7 and rote memorization of scales when it's literally always been "just cover songs you like until you get them right lol". it worked for the beatles, who were pretty much a cover band before they were pressing records. and there are still people today who studied theory that can't figure out how they did it without a formal education.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>42893820
That anon mentions playing a bit as a kid, so probably they already knew how to read sheet music. I'd say look up sheet music for something extremely basic (like Hot Cross Buns tier), figure out how the notes on the page map to the strings on your lyre, and try playing it until it sounds right. Then find something a little more complicated and repeat.
Probably also worth checking youtube for a very basic "how to play a lyre" tutorial, so you know the proper fingering technique
>>
>>42893838
Just pick an easy song to start off with and just keep at it. You will learn a ton about the instrument and about music from just playing around and trying to figure things out.
>>42893859
I did know the basics of reading sheet music, but when I started learning again I mainly followed video tutorials and played stuff by ear. Learning how to read sheet music or proper fingering technique should probably be the second or third step in my opinion, learning those things will be a lot more fun and intuitive once you know the basics of how your instrument works.
>>
>>
>>42893874
thanks for the advice anon, I'll try your technique

there are a few different things you can do that will improve your musical ability:
1. free improvisation. play whatever notes without having any particular song in mind
2. playing by ear. listen to a recording or performance of a song and try to recreate it on your instrument
3. reading sheet music. read notated music and play from that
4. read method books/watch lectures about the instrument or music theory
5. be tutored by another player
(1) is accessible and you should do it to get a feel for technique and for fun
(2) is what some of the other anons are recommending. practicing your ear is very important so you should definitely practice learning music by ear, particularly because there's not as many songs arranged specifically for 19-string lyre.
(3) takes some time to get started on but is useful in the same way that while you don't have to be able to read or write to speak, written language is a useful technology for expressing and understanding ideas.
(4) probably difficult, but look around for books or videos on it. maybe harp lessons are transferrable to lyre?
(5) is either luck or finance based but very useful if you can since you don't already have a musical background (lyre is probably not the easiest first instrument due to a dearth of online resources (you can still learn it as your first though)).
the main thing is that you have to do it a bunch to get better, so just do it a bunch
what specific lyre do you have?

>free improvisation. play whatever notes without having any particular song in mind
>playing by ear. listen to a recording or performance of a song and try to recreate it on your instrument
I've started doing those two after the other anons posts, for now, I'm a natural disaster but I'm sure I will improve
>reading sheet music. read notated music and play from that
I've found some music with the notes annotated as letters (and the lyre has the note each string corresponds to engraved above them) but the ones I found are not in the range the lyre covers, can they still be played with it?
>read method books/watch lectures about the instrument or music theory
I've found some tutorials on youtube to help me start, they explain how to hold it right and how to pluck it.
>be tutored by another player
I have a musician friend who could help me learn some stuff, sadly, he's a drummer so for the how to play part, he can't help much
>what specific lyre do you have?
pic rel
it's a 19 string lyre that goes from F3 to C6 the page I bought it from said it was a 24 tone one
2 of the strings broke off when tuning but I ordered new ones
>>
>>42895304
>can they still be played with it?
depends on what you mean by not in range. your lyre is tuned diatonically rather than chromatically, so there's some gaps in the standard tuning (matching each string directly to the note above) that will prevent you from playing some songs. some music you could play if you transpose it, but you have to kinda know what you're doing to do that. can even play some non-diatonic music if you learn how to tune your strings to fit them. for now its a safe bet to look for songs that are in the key of C https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_major. sheet music for songs in C won't have any of the b or # symbols next to notes or next to the start of the staff lines

Any idea why DHX left out so many mouth shapes on the front and three-quarters-back views of their puppets? They're like this from season 2 all the way to season 9, so it almost seems intentional. Was filling in the missing frames just never on their list of priorities?

could be because 3/4 is the most commonly used view as it is the most appealing, so they don't spend as much time on developing other least used ones

I cannot find any content on these links since they're over a decade old and dead.
DOES any anon have a archived copy of these tools, or am I better off searching the archive thread's database?
And quick question.
I can see the animation puppets have example keyframes, and that I can set static frames for each symbol, is there a way to tween between static frames? I already tried classic tween and setting a new keyframe with a different static frame value, but this doesn't work.

I can help with a few of the 3rd-party extension tools. Keep in mind that I have only ever used these in CS6, so if you are using a newer version of Flash/Animate, they may not work.
Janimation flash tools is no longer available from the original creator. I guess they never updated it for the Creative Cloud version and for some reason deleted the original version from their website too. I've reuploaded the CS6 version here:
https://files.catbox.moe/o4c546.zip
To install:
note:is usually located at C:\Users\ \AppData\Loc al\Adobe\Flash CS6\en_US\Configuration
unzip the ZIP file
copy everything in Tools to\Tools
copy everything in WindowSWF to\WindowSWF
copy everything in keyboardShortcuts to\keyboardShortcuts
copy everything in Commands to\Commands
Keyframe Caddy also seems to be unavailable from the original creator. I believe the modern Creative Cloud versions of Adobe Animate have something called "Frame Picker" built into them that does the same thing, so you only need this extension if you are using CS6. Keyframe Caddy was distributed as a .mxp file, but to get it to work with CS6 I had to convert it to a .zxp file and change the maxversion property inside of it. I've reuploaded this zxp file here:
https://files.catbox.moe/kzwni3.zxp
To install:
Open the Adobe Extension Manager. You should be able to open it from the Windows start menu. If not, then open Flash, go to Help -> Manage Extensions...
In the extension manager, click "Install" and select the ZXP file.
I haven't heard of the "Convert to 2s" extension, but perhaps Tween2Keys will accomplish something similar. That one can be found here, along with a bunch of other tools:
https://www.toonmonkey.com/extensions.html
You probably install this one through the extension manager, too.
Zedrin made a tutorial in which he used all three of these tools. Could be useful to you:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSFlXA7-3c8
keyframe caddy starts at 3:15
Tween2Keys is used very briefly at exactly 4:01
Janimation Tools starts at 8:00
> is there a way to tween between static frames?
Classic tweens are only good for bulk movements of symbols (i.e. translation, rotation, skew, scale). If you want to smoothly morph one shape into another, you can do that with a "shape tween", but in my experience they're finnicky to work with. They never morph the way I want and I have to add a ton of "shape hints" to make it look close-ish to want I want. A huge limitation of them is that you can't apply them to an entire symbol - you can only apply them to individual drawing layers. Here's a basic tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7N1fAdk0Jc
And here's one that uses shape hints. The interesting stuff starts at 3:25:

Not bad for a first go! It's good to see someone taking a stab at animation.
A few critiques:
The sound quality is low. Did the original audio sound better before you exported it? If so, look around in the export or publish settings and see if you can increase the bitrate of the audio.
The chin, top of the nose and nostrils are not moving as the mouth moves. If you look inside those symbols, they probably have their own frames that correspond to the frames of the mouth and the symbols should be synchronized with the mouth.
People tend to blink more when tired, so extra blinks can be good to convey tiredness. There are other techniques you could use too, like bags under the eyes and showing veins in the eye whites during closeups.

The animation is pretty nice idea to get your feet wet.
(your 7 last frames have a scale to it)
Naa, you just use too much compression on your audio.
.mp4 is a container that can hold multiple audio and video codecs (things that actually compress the audio/video).
You probably didn't choose it and went with default option, but you video is h264 (59kbps ! But almost nothings moves, so it's okay) and aac (143kbps) for the audio.
That's awefully low.
That's some codecs from 2003 (still widely used, but inefficient compared to more recent ones)
Honestly, just use .webm (an other container ) and VP9 for the video, and Opus for the audio (that is 10 years more recent, so better quality for the same size, and works on any phone/webbrowser).
Usually, you export your animation in frame by frame/ lossless, and then compress it to fit you publishing platform.
If you want to do it automagically, use ffmpeg, and call it as such: "ffmpeg -i uncompressed.avi compressed.webm"
It will auto select VP9 and Opus if there is any audio.
Have an example of AV1/OPUS
https://u.pone.rs/nwguxieh.webm
It's 93Kb instead of 121kb for way better quality
>>
>>42929907
can I just use handbrake to re-encode it? I don't really like having to open cmd, then path to the target file, and look up ffmpeg commands
>(your 7 last frames have a scale to it)
I know, was too lazy to fix it
>You probably didn't choose it and went with default option, but you video is h264 (59kbps ! But almost nothings moves, so it's okay) and aac (143kbps) for the audio.

I see, I did leave it on defaults, I'm using adobe animate cc 2015.

I just hope Milky won't hurt her milksack in this powerful game.
>7 frames
Yeah, I know that feel...
On the other hand, when its published, it's "definitive", so I like to just have a glass of water of whatever when I just finish something and before publishing. I catch errors this way (like eye reflection or sometime even missing cutiemarks)
>>42929985
Oh, don't worry, handbreak support all of this (like a lot of things, it usees ffmpeg under the hood). Just select VP9/Opus, and you are good to go.
It will be slower to encode than mp4, but the quality will be better for animation (and sound).
Also, I just tried it (I have an old version) and you may have to fiddle with the bitrate to make it fit on 4chan. But to host elswhere, it's all good.
4chan only support
.mp4 : h264 and aac
.webm ( VP8 or VP9 ) and ( vorbis or Opus )
No subtitle, no metadata, etc.
Your best bet for animation is indeed VP9/Opus.
Shame they didn't support AV1, the "new" svtav1 encoder is super fast (faster than VP9 and h265 on my computer)...
If you want to read more:
https://chameleon-ai.github.io/webm-guide/
>awefully low
Eyup. Well, for the audio, using Opus, that would be quite good, but not for aac.
>apple (not the mare)
iphone is supposed to play VP9 since 2023, and apple introduced software-based AV1 iOS support starting with iOS 15.
So, you shouldn't have problem with it.

>proprietary animation tool
Hoo, I will call my python scrip like that, it's way more classy!
Yeah, to be more exact, The game engine is Kazeged (and I fucking need to spend some time on it for pete's sake), and I use a custom script to animate preview and my images (why custom script? Well, Pencil2D is fucking up the aliasing when scaling, and Synfig Studio is a smoking pile of shit that takes forever to render, provided it doesn't crash).
Everything is in python, and I use pillow to generate every frame.
I then compress everything either to gif (still using pillow) or ffmpeg (when doing webm / stitching gifs).
The file format is super simple, you just list all your layers, and then your text. It autodetect when you have multiple images to make them loop (like eye blink or mouth.
I draw everything using either paint from windows XP (when I'm lazy) or firealpaca (when I feel fancy).

>>
>>42941442
>do I just pin it in place to the cloth before tracing
Sounds like it would work. Just make sure you don't stretch the fabric while tracing (this can happen if you press too hard with the marker), otherwise it'll come out the wrong shape.
> with a waterproof marker?
There are specific markers for sewing that are designed to wash out when you're done. If you're using something permanent then better do a little test and make sure it doesn't show through where you don't want it.
>Also I've tried my best but I can't really tell which way the minky fur points like it indicates with arrows on the pattern
Try rubbing it in an upward direction, then down, left, and right. What you should see is one direction makes it lay down smooth and the opposite direction makes it fluff up a lot. That gives you the direction of the grain.

there was a really good guide from a anon who's sewn his own plush, you can get a cardboard box then pin the pattern and fabric to it, to make cutting it out and tracing it way easier, for my own patterns I've usually just pinned the pattern ONTOP of the fabric then used it as a guide.

or you can even join non-pony jams and make a pony game anyway (and post it here obviously)

Flashanon back
I've learned quite a bit about organization, keyframing, and trying to keep things neat and tidy
unfortunately my workspace is a mess, so I'm going to work with the mess and finish the rest of the motion with some classic tweens and additional movements. It's not going to be as fluid as I'd like but it won't look too static either hopefully.
Any good video tutorials on inbetweens for flash anims?

I've been staring at this pony for so long I can't tell what I'm looking at anymore. I put the old one and new one side by side.
New one has different textures, added eyebrows, higher poly count and generally slimmed down
old on the left, new on the right
Does anything look kinda off on the new pony?

You definitely made the right choice to slim her down, she looks significantly better now. It can be hard to properly get the proportions of their heads right on both. I can't really say what you need to adjust, maybe you could reduce the distance between her front and back legs slightly?
>>
>>42953826
I (flashanon) currently shot myself in the foot, my keyframes are a mess since specific poses need to put things like legs or arms on different unrelated layers to not make symbols overlap, and classic tweening tends to break them, so.
>>
>>
File: changingLayers.gif (985.3 KB)

>>42957090
Yeah, changing the layering during the animation (like when a character turns) can be annoying. What I typically do is have multiple layers for an object, and just insert blank keyframes whenever I don't want that object on that layer. The tradeoff is now I have more layers, which can make it harder to find stuff.
ToonBoom Harmony, which is what I primarily use now, has a z-axis so you can just animate drawings going behind each other. That has its own complications but I prefer that solution overall.

flashanon back
here's another WIP
I'm at a crossroads
I've raped my project very badly and practically have to restart unless I want to push through my poorly done disorganized heap of keyframes.
I might be able to re-use my rough anim since its symbolized, just tweak timing with everything I've learned over the past couple of weeks.
The good news is I should NEVER run into disorganization this bad anymore.
>>
>>42965370
I suppose it's a learning lesson in the end, which may be for the best. I've found that scaling the timeline can help alleviate some issues, although there will still be a lot of manual tweaking involved.

dump the file as a .fla, some anons could use it for the assets in it, or even dare finish it.
I'm guessing you never did a rough animation at ALL? Aka, you never sketched a storyboard or sketched a animation rough and did some basic tweens/movements to get a idea of the motion.
Animations are hell of a lot easier to finish when you time everything out (usually every two frames) and add room for facial expressions/blink cycles.
>>
>>42974742
>dump the file as a .fla
can't do that, opentoonz has no option for that
i could drop the full file but im too lazy to comb over it for any identifying data
>I'm guessing you never did a rough animation at ALL?
yep, i was just rough drafting the scene and that was supposed to be next. ive animated a few things before in 3d and 2d so im not a complete n00b at it. also im a perfectionist at it (woe be me) so it will be good if i ever finish

So how do I print out this plush pattern to actually make a 20" plush? Do I just scale it to 20", print it out and tape pieces together?
>>
File: image.png (3.3 MB)

>>42975756
The anon that used that pattern in his guide mentions he just scaled the patterns to size on his computer using drawing software, then traced off of his monitor.
I’d highly recommend making a calibration print if you want to use a printer though. Print a page with a bunch of assumed sizes (1in, 1cm, etc) and see if the sizes line up with your measuring tape. A household printer might also not be big enough for 20in pieces.
As said earlier in this thread at >>42942203
you’d want a nice big cardboard box to make your life easier when pinning and cutting pieces.
If you have no experience doing hand stitches (which will be required), practice on scrap fabric, you don’t want bad stitches at any point in your plush, for all hand stitching I’d highly recommend using a simple backstitch since they don’t back out easily.
Best of luck plushanon! o7
>>
>>42975813
Thanks. I was looking through that same anon's guide and I think I'll try printing it. I'll make a calibration print first to make sure it can print the right size.
I know my printer can't do 20" prints but I can print say half the body pattern on one page and the other half on another and tape it together.

I'll look at some of the 3DCG rips in the resources page, and maybe I'll print a mare or two, but I've never operated a 3D printer before (I just know the very basics)

Holy shit man, i've been wanting to do something like this for a while but never had the time or effort to do so.

One piece, but it has to be physical so you should print a png of one onto a piece of copy paper.
But if you actually wanted the model, here you go. She's not rigged or anything since these are just simple models but feel free to have at it. I've been contemplating 3D printing a few ponies like this and taking them to Mare Fair this year to just leave around for whoever wants them.

By default, the pupils (and irises and eyeshines) remain in the dead center of the eye and do not change scale as the head rotates. The eyewhites, however, do change their shape as the head rotates. This can make the eyes look a little weird as the head turns because the amount of whitespace around the pupils changes. You can move the eyes yourself as the head turns, though, to make them look better. I intentionally do not auto-move the eyes as the head turns because I think it could interfere with whatever the animator wants to do. See >>42835386
To make the mouth shapes transition smoothly, I broke it up into about 20 pieces and applied deformation chains on each piece. It's very tedious to set up, but it lets you rotate the head to any angle, and you can rotate the head independently of doing the lipsync.
>>
>>
>>
>>43002648
Yes, something close to that. The four views I created deformations for are front, 3/4, side, and 3/4 back. There's also the back view, but that almost doesn't count because it's easy to set up. I might go in later to tweak things here and there at the views in-between those four, especially for the jaw, which has a tendency to detach from the rest of the head.
