Tires at the shop
All the trim I wanted ordered(original 750 stuff)
All the running gear shit ordered(brakes, clutch, whatnot)
Oil changed
Getting tank ready for paint
Shit, quick and easy for under 1200. Guess Ill polish the chrome and paint the tank while I wait for all the parts to come in.
Should...I also order a chain?
>>
>>28907672
Motorcyclist is unsecured, this in a front end collision you will fly forward and like impact the bars. An airbag can deploy and slow or potentially block you from being throw from your bars and the design of that particular bike has a front that will take the abuse and side flares to keep you from being the first thing to hit the pavement. Not sure if it actually works that well, but I can see the reasoning. Seems like an airbag vest is better tho

idk i feel like any impact strong enough to deploy this, is strong enough to separate you from the bike completely

Thanks!
The side panels I bought from Ebay are red, so I guess that. I'm not much the painter, but its bright enough I can hide my imperfections.
Still no clue on how to ride the thing. May just sell it to a friend or my dad once its done.
>>28907683
They have colored chains? Seems tacky. I am getting done making this thing not white trash.
>>
>>
>>
>>28907672
I guess hitting an airbag and then hitting the road beats hitting the handlebars and then hitting the road.
Do they deploy faster than airbag vests? If so could be good in tandem, otherwise might as well just skip it and wear the vest.

thats funny, i bought mine before i knew how to ride
it was my boss' bike, he let rot away in a shipping container behind our work. i was bored one day, and decided to pull it out and look at it. i bought it from him soon after that
its not the best first bike, very heavy, i dropped it a lot. but i miss it

Lot of helmets have provision for glasses. I've personally seen it on KYT and LS2s. I'm sure others have it too. I don't remember if HJCs have it. I'd be more concerned about head shape. Go to a shop and try it on.

ive never had a problem with wearing glasses on any of my helmets

buy a modular if you get annoyed easily and then you dont even need to doff your glasses when you don the helmet

Are you american? If not don't listen to the fats saying you need a 600+ cc bike. 125-300 is perfectly fine for 90% of the world 90% of the time and is a lot more fun to ride around with. Riding a fast bike slow is a lot more boring than riding a slow bike "fast"

i took the base MSF course that gets you a license
its totally not worth doing, but worth watching a video on
because its just you learning a few simple principles and then practicing your clutch control and handling on your own
you should just pass the knowledge test when you buy a bike and then pass the road test get your license
a few months later after getting comfortable riding you then take an advanced class
MSF course is too simple for non beginners

Depends.
Can't speak on susuzkis specifically but the catch with manual cam chain tensioners (CCT) is you need to periodically re-tension them. Even if you torque load the adjuster and locktite, you will need to go back wherever the CCT is located and re-tension it. If it's in a convenient spot like a 600rr then by all means, direct upgrade if you're good about service intervals.
However if you're an unlucky chap and have a CCT hugging right up on the inner frame you will hate yourself everytime you go to re-tension the Manual CCT.
If CCT is easy to access and you don't care about checking the tension every 2-3 thousand miles ---> Manual CCT
If CCT is a PITA to access and/or you're lazy and there's a revised tensioner design ---> OEM+ hydraulic CCT

It isn't a joke. I have another year then I'm confident enough, probably, to buy an scl500. I just commute and the cb300r is kinda nice too still have regrets about not buying that. Rebel300 is a perfectly fine city bike that I bump the rev limiter on consistently in first because its at like 28-30mph to do that.
BTW waking up at 4 going to work on empty roads then leaving at 4 in traffic makes me very tired.
>>28907955
Better than a rebel 1100, ain't so bad. It is a perfectly fine bike at that point.

>rear brake if necessary

Bit of a stressful start to the day. He admitted fault and all three of us have insurance, but it sucks that my premiums will go up. I wouldn't have even gone to the insurance company if my bike hadn't torn a hole in the side of a Range Rover, because the only damage is a little scratch on my exhaust. no, but remember that you don't need both feet on the ground at stops and you can just get off the bike and move it during parking or turning it around to go back on the road, nothing wrong with that.
>mfw 170cm twinks call themselves manlets in front of my 165cm smallking presence

>>28908477
Also if you are as concerned as I was go to cruisers and smaller ptwins/vtwins. I can nearly flatfoot an sv650, triumph scrambler 900, int650 and scl500. Don't worry about anout it as much as I did and buy a rebel 300 because it was cheap, light and low power, just aim for around 450lb and less with it in nind that you get 0.4~0.6" sag sitting on the bike. Just sit on a few. Also don't buy the first helmet cyclegear shows you in store.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>28908497
Its cb500f. The older gens are slightly easier to flat foot. Newest gen has a wider or thicker seat I think. If my 172cm ass fits he should and the 300r can be if you sit all the way forward on the seat.
>>
>>28908467
Why would you clutch to control speed?
Maybe you are talking about feathering clutch at super low speed in a parking lot policeman turn
But for safety just cruise through the corner with steady throttle
You brake and downshift do all your braking before you even start leaning
Then you turn nice and steady
So you have max grip for corning
When you turn enough and the wheels are straight then you can open the throttle
It's not the fastest way to go about it but at least you won't die
Just take it slow first, always assume there is a truck parking right behind every blind curves
It's better to be too slow into corner instead of too fast
You aren't racing anyone are you?
But if you are talking about just moving around in the parking lot or filtering Thu traffic
Then you open the gas a little bit and leave it there and use clutch as a way to move your bike at slow sleep
At least that's the way I do it
Didnt they teach you this during the MSF?

Don't do rear brake cornering unless you are upright. You can just use the front and let the bike engine brake to like 15mph-18mph and still not need the clutch for corners about 90degrees in city. Still you should go like 15 and less in acute near 180 degree corners just so you can manage traffic hazards and spot.
Also you really shouldn't aim to brake during a turn, try reaching a manageable speed first and only easing on and off the front brake before the apex of the turn. Rear braking in a turn can slide the bike out.

Brand new to motorbikes since 1 week. In 7 years I went from barely walking, to bike, to motorcycle. This Zontes shows better that I could ever expect as a new rider. Fits my skeletal build well, cheap, cute (learning to deal with having something so cute in the streets because no garage).
I'm doing something between a sloppy and hard break in, currently at 360km. My body hurts, but I can't wait to get back on it.
Do you guys have this feeling were you feel like an insecure pussy until you're actually rolling? It's like there's so much to care and push on a motorcycle that I don't have enough brain ressources to look at myself. I love it.
As I get more confident I'm starting to get self conscious again though, but that's a me problem to fix until I get to buy a bigger bike.

It just feels a bit herky jerky in that spot where you initially crack the throttle open. And in tight little corners in the city where I'm leaning over pretty far, it feels much more stable by giving it some throttle through the turn.

I will never understand why people bitch at manufacters for dropping a model. Given the cost to engineer and manufacture any vehicle at scale, no one likes giving up on future sales, unless they simply can't move the bikes.
You want to be mad? Go bitch at politicians blocking sales of bikes without crazy hot emission tech, ABS, or non-domestic manufacture. But also, go get mad at.the man in the mirror. The demand just wasn't fucking there.

Stronger market competition where the bike doesn't sell were except for a small number of countries. It is too big of a loss. Super sports are also hyper competitive on track and when sold to consumers so it really holds no place when the MSRP for the r6 adjusted to inflation is 16k base.

Just watch twist of the wrist2
Entire 3/4 of the movie ia retraining your mind to avoid entirely the problems that you have
>brake and decel prior to entering curve
>inclusive of downshifting if youre taki g a corner at a slower speed or want the powerband a bit higher than what you were cruisin into at entry
>look where you wana go
>stop braking, countersteer, smooth roll on throttle
>throttle actuation remains consisten throughout the corner
>after apex of corner you can accelerate out and countersteer back into upright
>again, smooth roll on and off the throttle
The odd time youll exceed the comf k
Of your powerband, you can upshift in the corner but dont do that as a noob until your comofortable with the rest at speed and regularly practice the same line and setup on the same corner road until you gitgud enough for increments of faster
No need to layerdown if youre only adding like 10kph to your comfort zone
Eventually youll gain confidence to push it to its limits, by then you gotta know the risk reward of attempting to be wannabe motogp on city streets
Best to finish what you commit to as far as lines go than to try and adjust during the turn
Good to have the speed settled in a realm where if you needed to become upright again you can countersteet, back off throttle, brake, and reduce the overall turn back to a speed with comfort and experience
But for that type of trial and error need 2 wide roads, and zero traffic
Know your limits and sneed within it
Slow is fast and fast is slow when you get er dun

Shit the weight argument is a good one never thought about it. As for now it sleeps under my window, chained to a bollard (13mm chain, litelock x1 to bollard and litelock x1 to front wheel). I see it's better to chain back wheel? Can't really do with my setup.
I'd just need an alarm disc lock, and I got a GPS tracker but I don't really know where to put it yet.
I live in France, high trafic road, in supposedly one of the less thieved region. I did not insure it against theft because paradoxically I was stressing more paying for it than accepting the possibility of losing it without return. I'm poor and a philosopher hence this logic.

Is it the floorboards that make a scoot a scoot or is it the swingarm mounted motor?
Every non motorscooter is a scooter because of the floorboards and handlebars. But some harleys have floorboards. Are they scoots? Would a vespa with foot pegs stop being a scoot? And before you say it's the step through frame plenty of scooters don't even have a seat in their frame for you to step through.
>>
>>
>>28908713
I think perhaps the simplest differentiator of a scooter is being able to touch your knees together without taking your feet off the boards, that means you're just sitting on the bike rather than straddling it like a horse. Even the most extreme of scoots like the XADV or Italjet Dragster 700 that should be possibly if your legs aren't too short and you tip toe. With a regular motorbike that's not possible because you've got stuff like the engine, frame, tank, between your knees so the layout of a scoot is usually significantly different to allow that to happen.
It could however be argued that the Honda Cubs and CT's are exceptions to this and aren't scooters, they have many of the hallmarks of a regular motorcycle like the frame mounted engine and multispeed gearbox and foot brake, larger wheels, etc. They've just moved the tank under the seat and because the engine is so tiny and low they've managed to slim down the frame so much that you could touch knees. They could probably be considered some sort of hybrid.

Either get a 2k beater dual sport or dirtbike and stop giving a shit about impressing anyone with monies
Or do it on your adv bike and get crash bars for the most vulnerable points
Eitherway risk vs reward
You want to do it but cant for fear of xyz, then you bought the wrong bike
>>28908713
The fact that scooters arent bikes
I can put floorboards on my crf450rl crash bars and raise my legs on them to recline and relax when i have a backpack
But if i have my crashbars installed and mx boots on; i already get a decent platofrm to relax on
>>
>>28908699
When you eat shit offroad, it's usually a slower speed and it's the front sliding out from under you. As long as your engine guard/crash bar/barkbusters aren't made of chocolate and you can set the bike on it's side without fairings touching dirt, you'll probably be fine. Maybe you'll lose a mirror or turn signal, but they make bendy/breakaway versions of those.

no one says you have to go off road with it. think of how many shit-ergonomic-riding position sport bikes are on the street that have never been taken to the track
start with compacted dirt/gravel, dont go straight into loose/ wet/ uphill stuff
i own an adventure bike, and dont have, nor ever had, plans of serious dedicated off road trips. its turning into my commute/travel bike.
>>
I beg adv people that never go off road to finally give up on mixed use tires and fully commit to street tires like dual sport commuters and stunt riders. Unfortunately adv dads never ever go full street tires it feels like, its 80/20 or 60/40 almost always.
>>
Imagine buying a DIRT bike and only riding the street, at least supermoto chads have a reason and even then they'll off road with slicks. Meanwhile another ADV larper is fully decked in motocross armor like they're crossing the Dakar just to go to the local hipster cafe or gay bar. I'd rather be a cruiser loser than Another Dad-aged Virgin

I seriously considered trying to find used plastics to swap for when i want to go try offroading but i can't find any so i'm stuck being a little pussy i guess.

But if you want something sportier, you're honestly going to be better off with an S1000XR. Crossovers in general are just way better for long distance than sport tourers, and they're just as fast and fun. Personally I would (and maybe will) buy a CB1000GT.

I'm 170cm and I ride a Tenere 700 with a standard seat - it's a decently tall bike, though they have a slightly shorter seat. You'll be fine. I won't sugarcoat it though, off roading is a bitch and if you have off road dreams you should give up, unless you're very young - 17 at most - and have a good group of friends or a few private acres of land to practice on. Tall guys can use one leg to keep the bike up if it starts to slip, but that's very difficult if you're short because by the time you feel hit the ground the bike is probably leaned past the point of not return, especially since your smaller frame is much weaker. Street bikes are no problem though. The worst part is when you come to a stop, if your bike is too tall, you have to scoot your butt to one side and will only have one foot flat on the ground, but it's really not a big deal.

Honestly you’re off to a good start for a new rider. Probably want to ditch the modular helmet unless you absolutely have to have it. They don’t call them “break aways” for no reason. Stick with leather jackets, and avoid textiles at all cost. If you do want to upgrade that, maybe get something leather with armor. If the jacket is brand new the armor 9 times out of 10 will need to be upgraded. Alpinestars, dainese are both good brands that come to mind who make leather jackets. If you’re on a budget you can figure out your jacket size in European measurements (example: 42) and get yourself a very nice used jacket on eBay or something. I would also recommend getting like… underwear armor. They’re like boxer shorts that have hip armor. You can then wear those under normal jeans and still protect yourself if you go down. Hips are usually one of the first points of contact.
You can really go nuts with this stuff. Personally these days if the weathers nice I just wear a T shirt and put it in gods hands. Also, post bike

Honestly- not a bad idea, but the most mechanically inclined thing I’ve done is replacing the alternator on my 2005 Mustang GT, and changing my own oil.

That bad huh?
It would be cool to ride off-road too.

These are dope, but you’re going to need a donor bike so you might as well buy a complete hard tail frame and swap the necessary parts

If I was going to build a chopper, I’d probably go this route. Get a full rigid frame designed for a big twin. Get something like a 1995 softail for $3500, and get pic related. Build to suit.

>joe rocket kevlar lined jeans with soft pads
The accelorator ones are legit but the pads are archaic on joe rocket stuff and don't really cover enough. The abrasion is like medium thickness denim which is only comparable to ripstop so you are only really protected at kevlar areas thus making it a AA rated set of jeans. For not too much more axial has more normal looking jeans with better pads. The pants are adequate for a commute, i have crashed in them and they barely showed wear at 25~30mph lowsiding with the bike on my leg
>LS2 modular helmet
This is good. Don't bother unless you want a spare helmet for trips, in which case any ece rated full face will be slightly better.
Now the bad stuff
>some cheap brand leather gloves with no pads
A lot of chinese gloves are not any good and have suede marked genuine leather, if you know boots that is bad. I suggest looking through closeout sales for gloves and especially trying on a lot.
>regular leather bomber jacket
Don't, remember the comment I had about leather for gloves, jackets use worse leather in non motorcycle applications. Please just try on some closeout sales for jackets, even full 600D codura is better than that.
Generally most of the budget friendly brands with jackets are better now but not great, if you see anything with just 600d and no multi layer at pads it is bad. Textiles are a mixed bag and the joe rocket jacket I had wore through the sleeve in a slide. For budget I can't suggest joe rocket jackets but I can for their gloves and pants.
Spending more on an actual motorcycle leather jacket is worth it, if you must go textile you need to check the company's site to see what textiles where used, if they double layered textiles and try to avoid anything that is completely 600d codura. You should at least have 800d or 1000d at any impact zone where there are pads.

Don't know what you were expecting to see, they still have a solid 0.5-1mm before the wear indicators.
For any big bike nerds ITT, this is what a CB500X rear tyre looks like after nearly 26,000km.
