Grok?
3.5 billion years ago the Moon had an atmosphere, primarily from out gassing as the mare filled with lava deposits. At that time, it's estimated the Moon had an atmosphere as thick as present Mars, as well as a magnetic field as strong or stronger than Earth today.

The Ship is also headed to Masseys tonight. People are speculating that both are going to perform static fires, which is wild to think about. If a double whammy does indeed happen, no more static fires would be needed, if nothing goes wrong.

Starlink wouldn't help here, the plasma envelops the entire capsule so no signals can go in or out. Starship and Shuttle had communications because of a hole in the plasma above the craft thanks to their size and shape.

There will be international mourning. Artemis will probably be cancelled completely because this administration only cares about optics. Canadians will say the US government killed one of their best.
Moon landing deniers will use it as proof that we've never went. I'm sure some of them will be smug the same way people were after Charlie Kirk was killed.
We want them to make it back safe and sound. None of the above is good.

The expensive museum-tier hardware has been fine so far. It's the new thing that was made specifically to be cheaper that is in question. These fags are obsessed with tiles. Tiles will be the death of spaceflight. I hate tiles.

There’s actually a chance a disaster could actually reinvigorate public interest and an increased pressure for future programs to be successful to give their deaths purpose, remember the deaths early in the Apollo program, nothing went badly wrong after that ( Barring Apollo 13 )

and by this I mean being heated alive slowly like one of the shuttle crew did I think?
instead of just the capsule blowing up quickly and a quick death
I guess the parachutes failing would be kind of horrifying for the crew, but that would be a pretty quick death as well compared to being cooked alive slowly

Grok, tell her where she went amiss.
Sure! The Moon’s orbit is tilted 5.1 degrees to the ecliptic, which is the plane of Earth's orbit around the Sun. While the Moon travels in the same general vicinity of the ecliptic, its path crosses it twice per month, creating nodes.
Hence why you hear "nodes" mentioned in mission trajectory planning. Also why we don't have solar eclipses every month.

r8 my concept for uncrewed robot that builds a lunar base, basically just a massive but lightweight robot spider with 4 legs, lands on the moon, the bottom lander square part detaches, the spider walks over to the lunar base and gently attaches the new base module on pre-prepared flat ground then it walks away and powers off
then you basically just get the ISS on the moon after like 10 of these land
Would it work??...

NSF: (Basically: the Earth rotates West-to-East under Orion while the craft falls approximately towards its center, causing the ground projection to drift west. Only later does it become apparent Orion is not actually falling dead center, but off to the East side of Earth. As it picks up speed due to gravity, the westward drift on the ground track progressively slows down, eventually stopping over Southern Australia, and then becomes a rapid Eastward trajectory: the last leg of the entry path).

The Artemis missions are using a different re-entry profile to the Apollo ones (higher velocity and "skipping" IIRC), the heatshield is going to be used under different circumstances from the '60/'70s so it's not gonna work out the same. They also changed up the manufacturing and design a little bit even if it mostly uses the same material.

I've also had the thought that legs may be a preferable design for some machines on the Moon. They can get every moving component up far away from the surface dust, and they can also fully enclose each leg in a continuous dust barrier layer since there's no rotating bits

and? Two successful missions, accomplishing more than Elon has in decades. Problem?
NASA is still retarded for hinging the entire success of Artemis on Leon / Bezos, however. No way Artemis 3 is happening on schedule.

My gf asked me yesterday what was all this about the astronauts saying they're going to mars now
I asked what she was on about
She said "I saw this report that they did a mutiny or something and told NASA they're going to mars instead so are going to mars now"
Do i break up with her
