Who do you all listen to for football content? My go to guys are Chris Simms and Greg Cosell but I also like to listen to ThatFranchiseGuy and I listen to a lot of call ins to local radio in NYC and Chicago. It's getting harder to listen to the big national shows because they all speak in general terms and don't really talk a ton about what the teams actually need to do strategically to win the game, they just say shit you or me already say here.

I used to listen to Cowherd around 2018-2021 back when he actually had focused 3-8 minute segments regarding a specific topic, but in the past few years he's done this extremely fucking lazy podcast style of videos where he just dumps hour long videos online and vaguely alludes to their topics and it's just endless chatter from that random mystery meat mexican rando he has on there now. It's unwatchable. I usually just come here for NFL news now.

I'm just disappointed that we're playing the Seahawks. If we were playing the Rams I'd be so fucking nervous right now and talking so much shit. If we were playing the Bears, I'd be having so much fun posting right now. Packers, I'd want revenge for Bledsoe.
I just feel nothing for the Seahawks. There's no stakes. If they beat us, I'll barely care. It's one of the few times where I don't feel nervous about losing. I do want to win and think we will but there's just no real stakes here.
I wanted Stafford to lose and he did but now I kinda wish he beat the Seahawks because then the owl would have felt like a must win situation.

Darnold can't possibly fuck this up right? All he has to do is not throw 4 picks. If the sawks keep maye in check and run the ball (maybe) they might do it?

Why not meet a slightly fat girl who is really nice and lose weight together? I'm guessing you're not exactly Mr. Fitness yourself. There's plenty of girls like that out there who are way more enjoyable to be around than the super hot sluttos and they will be much more devoted than a thot would be.
Just a suggestion. I think too many people approach dating in hoping someone is already a finished product when they should be aiming for someone very "coachable" with good fundamentals where you can both work together to improve yourselves and each other.

8-10 days out is always the least hype period. Trust me, the interest and discussion will ramp up over the course of next week because literally everyone who has anything to do with the NFL will be gathered in San Francisco and there will be a ton of segments and interviews to consume then theyll have the NFL Honors show and the team media scrums.

I think I'm pretty fair when it comes to giving grace to young QBs underperforming due to their supporting cast and coaching, but Stroud was actively trying to lose both those playoff games. At no point was he ever playing with any form of confidence or rythm, he always looked jittery even with a clean pocket, he kept making terrible decision after terrible decision, and his throws were consistently underthrown or behind the receiver
He needed to be benched way earlier in the season to get his head straight like Bryce Young because he hasn't played well all season, it was just covered up due to the defense near singlehandedly winning games

Fields was benched halfway through the season, unless he plans to run it back with Tyrod Taylor at QB the Jets are probably drafting someone or trying to get a fringe starter like Mac Jones or Malik Willis to start

I'm being serious. Not saying that the should've benched Love all game, but putting in Willis for a few snaps would've 100% thrown off the Bears defense and prevented all those 3&outs that killed them

How I sleep at night being a Tom Brady fan who doesn't have to give a shit about the outcome of any NFL season ever again
>>
I was thinking about it today and I'm not sure Drew Brees should actually make the HOF. He only made All-Pro once in his career. 0 MVPs, 1 ring. Only broke a .500 record 11 times in 20 years. Coin flip playoff record and regularly choked and bitched out in the divisional round. Only 1 SB appearance and 2 NFCCG appearances in his entire career.
What does he even have in his favor? Pretty much just stats. A whole shitload of stats. He had great regular season and postseason stats but he was also a bit of a statpadding domebabby. Is a bunch of bulk stats and one ring really all it takes to get in? I just have a hard time taking a guy seriously who pumped out 3 5000 yard seasons in a row and still finished 7-9 in every one of them.
If he had literally any other accomplishments...an MVP, a few more all-pros, just one more SB appearance or SOMETHING...something to actually say he's got "IT" more than just bulk stats, it'd be easier for me. But I actually think he shouldn't make it in. Stats are not a good enough reason.
If Brees just had the leadership to elevate his defense like Tom Brady did, maybe he would belong.

They're my pick for rebound team next year. People underestimated Penix this year. I thought he was solid. Can see the Falcons taking the division. 9-8 to 11-6 is what I have them pegged for.
Notice that even this year, a lot of good teams struggled to put them away. If Penix is healthy, I think they'll do well.

The Bills as an org sounds like a shitshow but they still have Allen and Cook who can single-handedly win them games
The Phins have a good number of quality players but a void at QB, they're going to have to deal with Tua's dead cap after he's (most likely) released but the Broncos have shown that you can build a quality team even with that hanging overhead
The only thing the Jests have going for them is having a lot of draft capital which is never a guarantee and a surprisingly good special teams unit. They're by far the worst team alongside the Cards and Browns

Ok /nfl/, I still dont know ball but here is an impression about this fun sport on the highest level: people in charge seem to care an awful lot about statistics to make decisions. Now, the season is gigashort so you need decisions to be fast af and impactful. So your WR doesnt get the mileage he should, in the first few games. No you need a solution FAST (two weeks) if you should get another one or change things in your system. With the tactical depth you have in football its insanely hard to gauge if your player is ass or your system failed against the other teams. So essentially youre forced to make decisions by using stats that arent based on enough data and the data you have is noisy af, since there are too many variables going into everything. So it might be that every gm or hc or owner is really just gambling all the time because their decisions cant be judged by their objective quality. Im fine with this, I dont mind, just overboarding statsfaggotry as if its the answer to everything annoys me. But maybe the analytics are far more sophisticated than I think, who knows.

If the Raiders hire Kubiak, draft and develop Mendoza into a good rookie QB who stays healthy and use their cap to upgrade the o-line, what's their best case scenario for next season? 7-10? 8-9? Wild card playoff spot?

>he has awful arm strength
That isn't hard to fix, this is the same franchise that turned scrawny college kid Crosby into an NFL beast. What matters is that Mendoza has elite placement and accuracy which is something that is much harder to teach.

Who the fuck even watches the halftime show? The only one I know that does is my sister and she doesn't care about the rest of the game.
Maybe at one time it was an actual big deal back when Michael Jackson did it but it hasn't been relevant to men forever.
>>
>>
>>153235309
I agree with the other anon. Mendoza looks like a bust to me. It's not just the average arm strength. It's that all of his "good plays" look like college-only plays. They're not possible in the NFL. Reminds me of that stupid tuck and run bullshit that TLaw kept doing for years in the NFL as carryover from his college habits or Kyler Murray clapping.
Mendoza is basically a less flashy version of Manziel to me in that he seems like a product of college football that will not translate well to the NFL. I'm calling it now. The kid is going to be a bust.
>>
>>
>>153234660
This halftime show is better this way because it infuriates so many people for no legitimate reason.
Yes I know it's no legitimate reason because if they chose a J/K-pop band the entire discussion would be about which of the tiny bugwomen you could break with your full mast staff that they're makin you without a care in the world about muhh birff cunt
>>
>>153235340
Those are all old examples. A modern example is Josh Allen who had strong physical attributes but weak skills. He did suck initially but they coached him into a top QB and fixed his accuracy issues. You can fix mechanics but you can't fix being undersized.
I'm of the belief that regardless of anything else you're scouting for, draft them big(6'3 and over) and white with good arm strength. You'd prefer great footwork, intelligence, pocket awareness, accuracy, etc, but you need those core attributes.

He hasn't even played that great this year. He's just on a good team. Why do people have so much trouble figuring this out?

>Oh wait, no he wasn't. He was just on a good team for a year
>Wow Ryan Tannehill was actually great the whole time the Dolphins just ruined h-
>Oh wait, no. He was always just average. He was just on a better team
I don't even get it because Darnold's stats aren't even good this year. Everyone is acting like he had a complete turnaround because his team, not him, won some playoff games. Does 11th in the league in passer rating and 238y/g 25TD 14INT 6 fumbles lost sound like an elite season to you? Because it certainly doesn't to me. It sounds average. 3rd most interceptions thrown in the league.

Why don’t people ever mention that Vikings offered Darnold a deal? He just turned them down for more long term security in Seattle. Everyone is dogging on the Vikings but they did try to keep him as QB for this year. I’m sure they could have matched the years, but the ideal scenario for them was clearly to give JJM 1-2 more years of development behind Darnold.
>>
>>
>>
Plenty of franchise qbs are playoff chokers, moving off darnold was a huge fumble after 1 playoff loss.
I mean Josh Allen’s fumble against the Broncos was god-awful and Lamar Jackson has had some bone-headed playoff throws. Turns out even the best QBs can have a shitty game in the playoffs and getting to the Super Bowl is tough for everyone.

It wasn't the fact that it was his two horrible final games, but more the fact that they saw a revival of his career, won them the division, and then decided to gamble on JJ McCarthy, who was one of the most fraudulent college QBs of all time. Darnold then goes to the Seahawks, performs a little worse but then starts coming up clutch when the spotlight is on him. That Darnold in the NFCCG would never exist if he was still on the Vikings.

He only played 2 playoff games and neither was against a team with a good defense so that doesn't mean much of anything. One of those games was such a complete blowout that there was no real pressure on Darnold to do anything. The Patriots are a much better defense than the 49ers or Rams were so it will be interesting how that plays out. It's also a much higher pressure situation.
Either way, nothing leads me to believe Darnold has had any kind of revival or major turnaround. He played a completely pedestrian season and his team is responsible for making him look good. Even with the #1 receiver in the league with JSN, he's looked completely average.
I don't think Darnold is any better than he ever was. I think he currently is and will stay a very average quarterback even if he wins the owl this year.

I'm fairly convinced at this juncture that the 3 NFCW teams are all paper tigers so that hardly matters. The Rams struggled to put away two dogshit teams in the playoffs and barely won by 3 points against a team with a losing record and da bears. The Patriots are going to play their best game in the Superb Owl and win. Just my opinion.
Anyways, the super bowl wasn't even my point. I just think the truth is that Darnold is average and the rest of his career will still remain unremarkable even if he snags a ring this year. He's just so obviously not a top 10 guy. He's firmly 11th-20th territory in the league. By the way the media is talking, you'd think he were on a trajectory to be a staple dominant top 5 QB and I think that's extremely delusional.

The Patriots beat both their WC and Divisional opponents by over 2 scores, something no other team in the playoffs achieved. So yeah, it was different. The Rams nearly lost to an 8-9 team and barely scraped by at the last second to win by 3 points(a game they were literally behind in) while they had to fight the Bears in OT and probably would have lost if DJ didn't jog.
The Patriots won their games in the first two rounds much more comfortably than the Rams did and against much better competition. The Chargers never had a lead against the Patriots and the Texans never retook the lead after the first 20 minutes of the game. They spent the rest of the 40 minutes behind.

>That's a big if lmao.
Not really. The game isn't nearly as lopsided as retarded casuals have tried to paint it out to be. It's a 4 point spread and far bigger upsets have regularly happened in the SB.
>You bring up the Patriots defense but ignore that the Seahawks have a top 3 defense and were the best scoring defense in the league
The Patriots have faced 3 top 5 defenses on the way to the SB. They have a lot of experience now. The Seahawks haven't. They faced very weak defenses. The Patriots have been a monster, physical defense in the playoffs. I think a lot of people are blind to this and aren't anticipating that Darnold could actually have a very ugly game.
Either way, you guys sure are focusing a lot on the Super Bowl's outcome aspect here when my main focus was just stating that Darnold is very, very average. I think the Patriots will win but I'm not even really talking shit about the Seahawks and I don't think it's guaranteed or anything. I just think people are underestimating the Patriots for...the 4th time this postseason because they're focusing too much on Drake Maye.

Their zone is so much worse. Gonzo can can keep up with him. We've seen him play against the best when the QB is mid. I assume the d playbook will be to force Seattle to run and take JSN out of the game with double coverage - Gonzo on man and high safety support. Let the line deal with the run and have the linebackers watch the middle for run breakthroughs.
>>
>>153238312
That was a Conference Championship game. I didn't ignore it. It wasn't relevant to the topic we were talking about. Interesting to bring up backups as if they're a guaranteed L, though. Foles was a backup and won a ring. Josh Allen lost to Davis Mills, a backup, this year. Denver is a good team and the conditions were very tough so thinking the Patriots "should have" stomped the Broncos just because they were running a backup is retarded. Bryce Young is worse than a backup and Stafford still struggled to put him away but none of you ever actually shit on Stafford for that.
Just bizarre that the Patriots get all of these unique expectations and arguments put on them but it's okay for literally any other team to win however they want to. But if the Patriots win, it doesn't count and there's always some excuse.

Seriously, tell me why that defense strategy is wrong. Are you disagreeing that he would always beat double coverage including by Gonzo a top 5 corner, or that someone else in the wideout group would manage to beat Davis? Or is it that Seattle's running game would beat the Patriot's front 4?

Not one of those games even sounds slightly exciting. The reason the Super Bowl sucks this year is because the Seahawks are a boring team. Notice that all of the shit talking and stakes in this thread is on the Patriots and they're the only ones being talked about.
The team making this Super Bowl suck is the Seahawks, not the Patriots. If the Patriots were facing just about anyone else in the NFC, it would be better.

Plenty of backups have outright won games, both in the regular season and playoffs, against starter QBs. They're not some guaranteed loss. Yes. They shut down and made Herbert and Stroud look like shit worse than they have all year. These QBs did not magically do it to themselves, retard. As much as you want to take away credit from the Pats defense, these teams were not all kept to 8.4PPG during the playoffs by the fucking air.
>You know some of us actually watch games, right? You're relying on these heuristics in place of just seeing what happened
It's more accurate to say your opinions are formed by a combination of extreme bias, shitty football knowledge, casual takes, and a heavy dose of media narratives about what teams are good and why. It's why you think a team like the Rams who had easily a far more cake mickey mouse run in the playoffs than the Patriots lost in the NFC Championship but had better quarterback stats. And those quarterback stats by themselves are enough to sway your opinion to think that the Rams are a real team and the Patriots aren't. Because you're stupid.

They can keep up with Shaeed and Kupp easily thru pressure on Darnold. They forced both Herbie and Stroud to shit his pants under the pressure. Force Darnold to have to make reads and you begin to erode his game. Teams had great success against him this year when they did that. I am shocked the Rams were so light in that game.

>What are you smoking, the entire country wants to watch the Seahawks manhandle the Patriots
That's the point, dipshit. They want to watch the Patriots get smoked. They don't fucking care if it's the Seahawks or anyone else doing it. Nobody fucking cares about the Seahawks. The only exciting conversations since the SB were announced were people talking shit over the Patriots.
The Patriots winning will cause MASSIVE waves of asshurt across the league. The Seahawks winning will...do nothing. Patriots are underdogs anyways and it's not like the Seahawks are some hated rival. It's the most whatever loss possible. If the Patriots were facing the Rams, it would have actual stakes and they wouldn't want to lose. If they were facing just about ANYONE but the boring fucking Seahawks, everyone would care more.

the seahawks throw the ball from under center without play action. the ball is in the air in under 2.5 seconds and nobody is fast enough to react. so then they bait you into playing man and then JSN or someone else is open. you gotta play match zone or you are cooked
retard

>I listen to my local radio interview the coach for 20 minutes every week
i used to during Marvin era...just can't take hearing zac taylor say 'we'll keep trying harder' every week now. Still turn off the sound on the tv and listen to the radio guy call game instead. good ol' Dave Lapham
