I honestly don't think Izzet Lessons really works with Learn considering it wants to draw all the lessons and start using them as soon as possible. Putting them in the sideboard and then drawing them with the Learn cards sounds like an extra layer of effort that will if anything slow it down.

I'd like to see the founder dragons actually do something in the story. They might as well be dead for all the presence they have on the plane - they do nothing so they won't be missed.
I mean what, they ignored the demon avatar and the phyrexian invasion was just the school and the professors.

Wizards is terrified of premodern because it shows that a format can be successful even if they aren't involved. Unlike EDH, they are unable to inject anything into premodern to ruin it. "But what about the inevitible premodern horizons set!"; if such a thing were to be printed, a format in which it's legal would no longer be premodern. Maro claims that there's not enough demand for a format that excludes UB yet is unable to prove any of the numbers that he talks about.
Legacy is screwed anyway. Every successful non-combo deck, and even then a few combo ones, plays all new creatures with mostly old spells. People then whine about the old spells being too powerful when the issue is the threats they're backing (see Entomb ban), so they ban the old cards and keep printing new broken creatures. Eternal formats were more fun when decks existed by coincidence - Oops all spells is a great example of this - and cards were run because they did something very specific that no other card could do.
The game, and the format, used to take skill. Now you just bash your face on the keyboard and hope Tamiyo or one of your other broken snowballing threats gets you there.

You know, it's genuinely baffling how I can look at a modern Magic card, that's a fucking 1-drop, and think to myself
"This is not just a YuGiOh card, this is an entire YuGiOh archetype printed on one creature. It does all the setup and payoff by itself and that payoff wins the game. At-least in YuGiOh the boss monster will usually ask you to do something with other cards to summon it."

It's because Commander is singleton, anon. This encourages designs that "do everything" in one card. This has been going on for a few years. Pic related ramps, draws cards, stabilizes the board and is a threat that ends the game, all in one card. Fable of the Mirror Breaker ramps, smooths your hand and is a threat, all in one card. Bankbuster, draws cards, ramps and is a threat, all in one card. As you can see these designs can be highly problematic in 1v1 60-card Magic. Not that they seem to care.

Commander is the end of Magic. No other TCG can compete with commander's popularity, and commanderfags have already proven they will accept whatever slop WotC injects into the game. Every decision WotC makes about the game is to appease commander players, and it is ALWAYS to the detriment of non-commander formats. Some busted ass shit that was designed around there being 4+ players? Its now rotated Legacy (again). Unsets being made black-bordered? They need to be so I can run my heckin attractions deck in my pod. 50% of the rares in a Standard set being build-around Legends that suck complete cock outside of commander? Commander. LD/MLD/Mana denial no longer viable strategies? Commander players find them unfun. UB is also because of Commander, when WotC realized they could ride the EDH gravytrain and turn every popular character from any IP into a commander.

MLD as you're asking for was already all but gone by 8ED, several years before the format would be acknowledged as Commander in 2011. Largely because as much as pseudointellectuals will wax poetic about how resource denial is a pillar of the game, very few people actually found it fun in any format (this is also why Mind Twist is never ever getting unbanned). Stone Rain appeared in a large volume of core sets and standard rotations but generally it wasn't easy to overcome someone's manabase entirely. Ironically you could actually argue it has been powercrept with cards like Price of Freedom and Cleansing Wildfire because manabases have been allowed to get so comically greedy in all formats that they quickly become 2-mana Stone Rain that cantrips, making them powercreep even Sinkhole, which never saw type 2/standard printings past ABU because it was considered too good at suppressing lands.

Those episode titles are from the 1980s TMNT cartoon. Those kids probably voted in the 1996 or 2000 presidential elections.
In all seriousness they were probably trying to go for a minor gross out joke using odd food combinations that kids would have tried. Almost every combination is a child food staple (oatmeal, peanut butter, pepperoni, toast) with a traditionally "gross" food (avocado, clams, anchovies, licorice, garlic, sardines, tuna) or is mixing desert toppings with salty/savory food ingredients.

Starting with Mirrodin and ending with Faeries they have completely avoided giving a keyword or tribe so much power that a dominant deck can be attributed to that keyword or tribe. They won't let the retarded community use something like Faeries or Affinity as examples to blame for Wizards' incompetence. It's far less insulting to stupid players if they can view Oko or Vivi as outliers even if in any case it's still Wizards' incompetence.
It's not Earthbend that's a problem it's Badgermole Cub. Nobody's blaming Earthbend as an issue. Spellstutter is simply one step closer to being able to blame Faeries for being a problem and they won't have that. There's only one good Faerie.

Is it literally ever worth opening packs? I'm getting back into paper and grabbed most of the singles I need for a standard deck, but I had a hiccup where the guy at the shop with the most cards in his trade binder would not sell me cards. He said he only trades "because of inflation and the cards hold their value." Without going into why he's a dumbass for thinking that the cheap standard staples I was after are going to appreciate, rather than depreciate when they rotate, it got me thinking about getting a box or two for the purposes of having a trade binder for just such autists at the card shop.
I'm thinking about buying a box of lorwyn and a box of EOE since I need shocks of all colors anyway and they have some other decent cards in there to possibly pull. It seems like I could get decent value from trading for cards I need for decks rather than paying shop/online prices for singles plus tax plus shipping etc. Am I an idiot for thinking like this or?

I understand stores demand you use real cards and for good reason as they need the sales to stay open. But you should simply stop playing whatever format demands you use real cards. The stores do all the work and do not deserve to be punished for Wizards' retardation. But punishing the stores with low attendance is the only way Wizards is going to pay attention. And now that Wizards is tracking singles sales you have to fuck the store by not buying cards too.
The fact is Magic is becoming a place that is unaffordable and only played by people willing to pay. Even if you stop playing and the store closes this will ultimately be what happens. There's nobody under the age of 20 playing this game. Everything you see in Magic today only exists because of something 20 year olds built and supported 20 years ago and all that's left is the sad pieces of shit from that cohort who have no problem paying $4 for a Spellstutter.

yeah I mean I can't deny that part of me just wants to crack a few packs even though I know that it's better just to buy cards
I legitimately have no cards though (other than the few singles I bought for building my standard deck)
I need lands, tokens, etc. although I guess even then it still sounds kinda stupid to buy a box and not even end up with enough full art lands or appropriate tokens for a deck
I'd also just really like to pull a riddler, but I'm sure that won't happen, and even if it did it would just make more sense to buy them

I just got back to playing this game after 20 years. When did they start releasing so many sets per year? This is crazy. They're going to run out of mechanics for a game involving 2 players with 20 life. Soon we'll have cards that can win at turn 1.

Not him and you have a valid point.
But certainly they would not make her an obvious member of a country in the real world that in deference they have already retconed and entire plane's name because of cultural appropriation from that country. Surely they wouldn't just walk into another error of cultural appropriation a second time with that country. Surely their priorities of diversifying must pause such as to avoid cultural appropriating again right?

That's simply four mistakes that "it's canon" simply cannot justify.

I meant these two. Margret's art is a treasure. Seems that Magic is now in the nostalgia bait era with them hiring old artist. The artist to expensive to hire are instead regulated into a special 1 out 500 hundred alternate artwork deal to justify hiring.

Some of these ones actually sound normalish, just kind of silly, like black olives with green olives. Ox burgers and yak cheese doesn't sound too bad. Mushroom & arrugola could be an actual order. Anchovy is straight up an actual topping, lox & cream cheese aren't common but I could see it being similar.

Maybe they'll all get replaced by new mono-colored Gods. Elspeth for White is a given, maybe the Demigods from Theros: Beyond Death like Tymaret or Anax will be deified as well.
Or more likely, only Heliod will remain dead, and the others will simply have gotten better thanks to their belief of their worshipers, but not Heliod because now everyone would rather worship Elspeth.

I readhalfthe article posted above and I still don't see it
it basically says:
>we figured out how to legally print money
>sometimes we would get an order, "print me $80m", and we would print $80m
>this is somehow a problem
milking a cherished hobby like that is of course vile, but I thought that's what all the investors always want
and it doesn't matter why they needed the money
frankly it's strange that they only "parachute" when they need to, rather than all the time
>misleading investors about their reasoning.
that's the only thing that remotely sounds like a reason
but I still don't see why the investors are suing the company for making them too much money
I don't believe for one second that they worry about long-term health of the product
>>
>>97462732
Maybe it’s because they were investing in Hasbro as a whole. And outside of MtG they are failing hard. They might have been pretending everything was going okay when really they were facing serious issues. If they covered it with MtG card sales though I fail to see the problem. Unless they were actively lying and saying other divisions were doing well when they weren’t.

This, fuck me WoTC are stupid fucking cunts. I bet TMNT was another parachute set. Maybe all of the UB sets this year are. They raped the secondary market so there are basically no cards worth more than $100 except in legacy/vintage they’ve all been reprinted to hell and back.
I think the investors are pissed off because mtg is being killed. Other card games are rushing to fill the void left by retarded mismanagement. People have noticed how overpriced and rushed mtg sets are. Spiderman was a shit show and TMNT will be too.

Came here to bitch and moan about the game because I play it and not for financial reasons, maybe only a small part is financial reasons, and then seeing other people bitching and moaning I want to defend all of a sudden. There was a whole thread saying black lotus is lame. No way, black lotus is super cool.
What sucks about Magic is when it gets frustrating as fuck to actually play. I've been playing for about 6 years and my skill level has always been the entire time no matter how much I practice and study is just barely not good enough. How much better I'd have to be to each mythic every season is a marginal tiny amount. And I can't win enough fucking gems to play for free. I took a month off from playing and am deeply hurting from not grinding my coins. Its seriously grind 4 times a week or don't play at all with this shit. I'm fucking fuming that I crafted Ouroboroid and Badgermole Cub and somehow that was a bad move and I didn't end up with a decent deck due to not having the simic lands. Fuck me for thinking Ouroboroid/Cub with different colors other than simic would be good enough (it's not). Who could ever make that mistake am I right?
>>
>>
>>97462969
no because if this was reddit that would be the OP post. gaem is too getting too expensive after all these years. pay to win games should have some kind of spending cap like once you've spent $2000 it becomes free. imagine if any game had a $2000 price tag upfront.

It's more a kit the nature of the printing. They KNOW you want certain cards, so they crack open the "break in case of emergency" box and sell them to you at inflated prices. The major problem here is they SPECIFICALLY did this to hide bad sales elsewhere and then go "dude what are you talking about we just COINCIDENTALLY sold this super desirable card no that shitty Spiderman set wasn't tanking the sales what are you talking about".
