The goal is to be as immortal as possible whilst still being able to put up a fight and hopefully aquire divinity as described in Q/As for Dawn of a Demon Lord.
Downtime is a trap as you could be depowered on the day you would have revived thus never reviving.
Spell failure makes conditional magic free if you have quick magic, however more points can be gained via divinity later and is not worth the permenant downside.
To be effective in combat we need a small, medium, and large attack spell.
Repeating magic is slighty too expensive otherwise infinite duration mind control trumps the bottom spells.
Mages are only mentioned in this CYOA and seemingly don't exist in other planes. My presumption is the first mage was made by a Planeswalker with the Blessing of Empowerment but could've been the Ascension Ritual as well.
The Space Magic mentioned in Dawn of a Planeswalker requires only visualizing the destination and makes no mention of public or private locations. As a result of these two factors, public teleport locations probably only exist on earth unless you make more yourself.
Spells In order of importance:
Pocket Plane 1 & 2; -2: 18; This is not a proper plane and cannot be accessed by typical Planeswalkers or Demon Lords as indicated in a Q/A for Dawn of a Planeswalker.
Quick Magic; -4: 14
Dimension Traveller; -3: 11; This and Telekinesis are not considered magical or spells for the purposes of anti-magic
Warp Perception; -1: 10
Dispel; -1: 9
Magic Immunity; -1: 8; Does not protect against Mind Control, Trance, or any other pyschic or supernatural effect.
True Sight; -1: 7
End of the point tax spells;
1/2

>>97475144
Body Enhancement 1 & 2; -2: 5; Taken only for the perception.
Blink; -1: 4; Primary way of dodging and moving, when I'm prepared to torture myself, I can move 179 MPH by casting it every 1/4th of a second. Any prepared opponent won't let me teleport though.
Conjure Storm; -1: 3; Cheapest large scale attack/mass destruction spell and probably the only one that can't be dispelled after casting.
Conceal; -1: 2; Useless for stealth because of True Sight. Still needed to not be ambushed at every turn.
Light Beam; -1: 1; Strictly better than Arcane Explosion, Arcane Missile, and Arcane Shotgun with Quick Magic and without Sentient Energy Ball.
Meteor; -1: 0; Of debatable usefullness, any sufficiently mobile and aware opponent will never get hit but it is also the only way to bombard an anti-magical field.
Telekinesis; -1: -1; Surprisingly the only way to commit sucide while bound in an anti-magic, anti-teleportation field.
Mindfuck; -1: -2; The best attack Shiro can do with Quick Magic.
Teleportation 1&2; -2: -4; Nice for running away and repositioning Pocket Plane's door. In planes that don't contain mages I will have to scout all of them ahead of time making this less useful.
Heal; -1: -5; I have a leftover point to do whatever with.
Drawbacks:
Demon Lord; +6: 1; If he can planeswalk, I can still run away. If he cannot planewalk, if I coordinate with the local plane's heros, he'll probably die.
Paranormal; +4: 5; Shouldn't matter with how much of a cockroach I am.
Factions:
Netrual Power
Ignore Pindlesnoot/The Magician Society
Companion/Pact:
Shiro the Astral Queen; -5: 0; The only way to gain immunity to mind control and not be mind controlled to reject respawning in your pocket plane.
Eventually after having dealt with the Demon Lord one way or another, I will try to find a Godless plane and accumulate divinity from the populace to hopefuly buy the rest of the spells.

>1 Arcane Missile (Destruction)
"I cast fist (ranged)!"

>2 Body Enhancement II (Alteration)
Perfect Saiyan physique
>1 Death (Alteration)
For when some lower lifeform (any mage with less than 32 points like me) annoys me.
>1 Dispel (Alteration)
It's more fun to punch people when they have that stupid look on their face when their barrier is dispeled.
>1 Domination (Alteration)
I hate long queues, they should just let me pass.
>2 Flight II (Alteration)
Imagine the possibilities for sex
>2 Heal II (Alteration)
To resurrect my dear wife if she gets killed and to feed her only best quality blood
>1 Light Beam (Destruction)
My wife hates other vampires so might as well turn them to ash with one spell
>2 Pocket Plane II (Space)
I'm not sure why true immortality costs the same amount of points as flight but sure
>1 Sense (Divination)
So I could sense when some 5-point jobber enters my dimension to challenge me
>1 Sex Magic (Alteration)
Obvious choice
>1 Summon (Space)
So we could always be together
>1 Suspend Biology (Alteration)
I'd rather not shit myself in front of my wife
>2 Teleport II (Space)
So me and my wife could go on a moonlit walks to different worlds.
>1 True Sight (Divination)
So I could negate the entire pussy school of magic
>2 Transformation II (Alteration)
To make my body perfect for my dear wife
>1 Warp Perception (Alteration)
So I could scream "Too slow!" to scare the shit out of those arthritic 10-point archmages

Moonlit walks on the beach part II

>MAGIC:
>barrier, body enhancement T2, conceal, dispel, heal T2, magic immunity, sense, suspended biology, true sight, altered perception
basics to survive/detect most dangers
>arcane missile, light beam, telekinesis
decent enough to fight back, plus telekinesis could work as an alternative to the flight spell
>pocket plane T2
no allies means having a secure location where I can rest is valuable, plus true immortality
>teleportation T2
moving almost anywhere at anytime is a no brainer, and it might need a bit more set up but this is a much better blink spell
>transformation T2
very strong as an attack or stealth option, and the immunity to hostile transformation means less options for others to counter my true immortality
>SPECIAL MAGIC:
>dimensional traveler
just as the description says. with true immortality I will have to eventually move to another world unless I want to spend the rest of eternity stuck in mu pocket realm
>quick magic
nigh-instant transformation, teleportation and light beam are OP
>DRAWBACKS: paranormal target, specialist (conjuration)
if the supernatural is real then I want to see all of it obviously.
and no spell of value was lost (conjuration fucking sucks apart from the meteorite)
>FACTION: none
they are all way more trouble than they are worth, and I have more than enough power to defend myself
>PINDLESNOOT: HAHAHA, no
I ignore him, I can easily live a life of luxury with all my power.
>PACT: none
I am not giving away power in exchange of friendship, I can just talk to people like a normal person.
so I have a spell to counter pretty much almost every hostile spell, plus nigh-instant teleportation+polymorph makes for a strong one-shot "kill" against those who don't know this specific spell or dispel, if that fails my body enhancement and nigh-instant light beam are also a good backup plan.

Hi everyone, Scottishanon here. I made a thing (OC). Please adjust your expectations, I think it's fairly mid and a bit rough around the edges. It's not one of my old projects which are all still on ice, just something that popped into my head that I decided to make. Regardless, it felt good to make a CYOA again. I hope you like it and as always, constructive criticism is gratefully recieved.

I do immediately wonder if the office job/modernity mentions might have something to do with where life took you
In an older time the trail would be a metaphor and the reward would be self actualisation.
The internet has made people alot more willing to see non-metaphorical adventures
Build:
Yes
>I actually like walking, and can do so for prolonged periods. It's nice to move
Biomes:
Fiordlands
Mountains
Boreal forest
>Beautiful and cold. I am a fairly large man, and as of such I am fond of the cold
Temperate forest
>Like home
Mediterranean
>Pleasant walking climate in the late autumn and early spring, at I would like to be tested at some point
Bag:
Pasiking
>Chances are I will expend any rations I bring on the mountain trail, So it would be best to learn to forage
Compass:
Trail compass
>Obviously actually using this will require some effort If I intend to read maps or share advice with my companions, but still, it would be best If I could walk in a straight line towards my goal
>Additionally, the most navigationally challenging parts of my journey should be the mountains by the start, for which this will be almost entirely consistent
Items:
Knife
>The wolves
Cloak
E-reader
>Some things to think about while I walk. I
Water filter
>I would have taken it without the bonus.
Sentiment:
Inspire you
>Accept no substitutes
Hopes:
Songs
>Something to remember the trail by
Calls:
Call of the first ones
>I would do this regardless
>Find as many marks as I can and leave some notches in the rock for when I leave
>>I should learn ogham sometime
>So I am to march.
Nice cyoa. rustic
I should go mountaineering at some point in my life.

>Trail: Mediterranean, Mountains, Desert, Archipelago, Lost World. In that order.
Variety is the spice of life and all that. I purposefully spread the in order to experience the widest variety of biomes possible.
>Pack: Haversack.
Food is food.
>Compass: Astrocompass.
I suck at navigation in all its forms. Acquiring the knowledge to read the stars accurately is vital. Plus it can double as a lightsource.
>Items: Water Filter, Fire Steel, Multitool, Arnica Cream.
The filter and cream are a no-brainer. The multitool is useful in all situations. The flint because I have literally zero experience lighting a fire.
>Sentiment: Know.
Tough choice. It was a tie between Know and Inspire. But self-discovery won over wonder in the end.
>Free Things: Heart-to-hearts.
Can't neglect my companions.
>Call of the First Ones.
The final mystery.
Very nice cyoa Scottie, short and sweet. Brings me back to the good old days of cyoag. If I have one complaint, its the lack of companions' section after being mentioned so many times.

>Any suggestions for tweaks or improvements?
NTA but, Threats, Companions, and Rewards for when you finish the trail. It would also be nice if each reward was tailored to your choice of sentiment and call.
>>
>>97478143
I think it would be nice if there were some more defined challenges or throughpoints you needed to venture through, like a cave that periodically refills with water and needs to be crossed in some hours, a puzzle of any sort or a nest of creatures
Just a few things to imagine facing on the trail and to justify more of why so many people have died walking it
>>
>>97478183
I would disagree about the rewards. It's about the journey and the narrator isn't supposed to know what's there. You shouldn't really be thinking about what you'll find but why you need to find it and it;s pretty clear that you need to avert the end of the world
As for companions, the solution of insisting they will be net on the road makes sense, although you could have events where one might meet a companion instead of defined characters, so of like the fate system from OR v2 but without choosing characters to add fates to
Like you would choose to meet someone while stranded far from civilisation, you would meet another when you save them from some wolves, and you meet another while drinking. Something like that might work, although it does comprise fateshittery which many anons don't like and leans more into the writing prompts side then adventure
>>
>>
>>97478206
The rewards don't need to be related to finishing the trail at all. It could be the valuable corpse of the beast you kill in call of the hunt for example, or a treasure unique to one of the biomes. That's why I said tailored to sentiments and calls.

Before starting, by a perverse compulsion alien to my senses yet undeniable all the same, I put on the Solvefag Hat. It now controls me as I pick these choices.
>Are you prepared?
Yes
Going by tropes, nopeing out of this would somehow end up decreasing my expected remaining lifespan.
>Biome
Moorland
Sounds even easier than Temperate Forest, and lacks Temperate Forest's clause about how it makes you soft. The lack of disease vectors, extreme temperatures etc increases my expected remaining lifespan relative to other options.
>Pack
Sarcina
It will "strengthen your body", increasing my expected remaining lifespan.
>Compass
Geological Compass
It provides the best superpower. After I'm done with the trail, I could continue using the superpower to earn money, and use the money to extend my expected remaining lifespan.
>Items
Water Filter
E-Reader
Fire Steel
Foot Powder
>Sentiment
Help You
Even if the other options could provide something of value, this would not compensate for the extent to which they decrease from my expected remaining lifespan.
>Free Things
Heart-to-hearts
I like the deepest of human connections as I listen and share, because they correlate with extension of the expected remaining lifespan.
>Calls
Call of the Colour
Gold can be monetized to provide medicine and other means to extend my expected remaining lifespan.
>>
>>
>>97478085
>>97478138
Interesting that you say Water filter and Arnica cream are auto-picks. How would you rate the item balance overall? I agree the cloak probably beats the multitool if you're going for biome variety.
I've always felt companions sections were my weakest link. I didn't really feel inspired to write one for this CYOA so instead I abstracted it to "you'll just meet some people bro." I can see how that comes accross as a bit insipid. Maybe I'll add one, maybe I won't.
>>97478141
I feel like it's a 6/10. I like the overall theme of a non-combat themed adventure that's about travel on foot, but I left the setting a bit vague. I feel like the Backpack and Compass categories fit the flavour well, but some of the other categories are a bit rote. Not my best work, but not everything has to be.
>>97478183
I drafted a hazards section, which the calls were part of but I trimmed it down to just the calls for brevity. That felt a bit more original and I didn't have the time or inclination to do a full hazards section. If you want, you could probably substitute in the hazards from Pioneer CYOA and they'd work.
>>
>>97478430
Alrighty, that is a snag, will redo
I can't help but notice we are not given any tools at all to actually shoot bears and the like? All these wild environments with bears and wolves in them are then trap options.
>>
>>
>>97478192
That's a good point. It occurred to me that it was missing something like the mysteries from Cloud Forest, I think that would fit nicely with the theming. Something like Milestones or Thresholds, symbolic setpiece challenges. Hmmmm.
>>97478206
You're right on the money, this isn't a reward based CYOA. Interesting suggestion regarding the fates, I might look into that.
>>97478215
JPEGS only
>>97478294
The beast in Call of the Hunt isn't valuable, the only reward is glory. I inteded it as a kind of Moby Dick situation. You really should just leave the animal alone, but you can't help yourself.
>>
>>97478405
One thing this board has taught me is that you can't write a CYOA that someone won't try to minmax. I always appreciate themed builds, though the Sarcina may not be the way to go. Roman Legionaries life expectancy wasn't great compared with today, but then again you're not going to fight at Canne, so maybe it'll work for you.

Not scottish, but I would assume "because it helps set the tone".
Framing is important, a scenario where you wake up on an abandoned space-station isnt exactly giving you much room to not engage with the situation presented, youre "forced" into it. Sure, you can ignore the CYOA entirely, but that's an entirely different thing.
Having the adventure be your choice helps set a certain tone, come what may, you picked this, it was of your own free will that you embarked on that journey and ended up however you did. You weren't forced into it by some evil spirit, it was your choice and your free will.
This voluntary nature helps mellow things out a little, makes the cyoa less adversarial and helps you feel more in control.

>Interesting that you say Water filter and Arnica cream are auto-picks.
Clean water and medicine are invaluable in survival scenarios.
>How would you rate the item balance overall?
Pretty good, some are clearly more optimal for certain biomes over the others.
>I agree the cloak probably beats the multitool if you're going for biome variety.
Yeah I figured, my only question is how good its temperature regulation abilities are? like is there a risk of a heatstroke from wearing a fur coat in the desert?

>Wild animal attacks are pretty rare. If you need self defence there's the stun gun.
A bear is much bigger than a human. And if it's wolves, only (You) have a stun gun while your companions do not, will they just get wolved? And in any case I wouldn't want to be in a fight vs even a single wolf even with an unusually large stungun in my hand, that's lethal as hell.

It's good to see you again, Scottishanon. I hope your own Heroes' Trail has been treating you well. This one resonated rather deeply with me.
I'll take a seat on the dry earth, set my feet around the blaze, and listen. His plea catches me like a snare. By the time the question comes, there's no doubt of the answer.
>Yes.
I'm an eagle scout, a searching soul that wishes he had the strength to be a misanthrope, and a hard-headed fool. There's something beyond that the doldrums of the day-to-day life cannot give. I would walk this alone, but for the sake of a world? I will and I must.
>Biomes:
The journey will be long and convoluted, a trek to end all treks, but the end will be that much more meaningful for it. Grit and sweat will see us through.
>Wetlands
We'll start in the bogs, of cloying mud and choking mist. This is the sweet spot, distant enough to be not so familiar, but for me far from foreign. It will hone our instincts and teach us to keep pace. Moreover, trudging soft ground and warding off all manner of bugs will harden us for what is to come.
>cont
>>
>>97478804
>Desert
Just when we've gotten used to the swamp, to the give-and-take of crossing ground, we'll go somewhere else. Sun-baked dunes and gnawing thirst will be our companions here. There is anguish here but it is predictable, we'll drag our limbs with molten heaviness, buoyed by the certainty each oasis is closer to our last. The desolation will lend us a two-fold appreciation, at first for the peace and solitude, at second, when it has beaten us down and the heat has sunk in, for the lively noise and biting insects we've left behind. If we are to save the world, we'll need to see the beauty in all of it.
>Lost World
From endless wasteland to a slice of yesteryear's yesteryear, old and primal, rugged and fragile. Home to strange plants and exotic lizards, it is a savage place but not inferior to our now, nor an enemy to be stood against. It is simply here, whether we like it or not. The lot of us will get by, step by step, and slowly but surely, pass through and find that there is worth in the children that father time has forgotten.
>Fjordlands
At last, the struggle of struggles, the slog of slogs. There is no way out but through. We'll plant our travel-worn boots into craggy soil, brace ourselves at the biting wind, and push up and ahead. Summit by summit, valley by valley. Not one step. The hardships here will break us, and we'll remake ourselves when we find the strength to pick up the pieces. When one falls, they'll find the rest of us lifting them up by the shoulders. It will all be worth it. The catharsis of our last descent will be worth a hundred such pains.
>cont
>>
>>97478810
>Temperate Forests
Now, for the final leg of our journey. The worst is behind us, and all that's left is to take our time, appreciate the sights, sounds, and smells of home, and reflect on how far we've come. Our trail nears its end, and whatever we find, the trip will have been worth the doing for its own sake. Even at the height of our relief, I'll take care to keep my head on a swivel. The Heroes' Trail may have some surprises yet.
>Pack:
There is nothing more important in the wild than a man's gear, and by extension, the most valuable thing he has is what's holding it. This is a decision I'll mull over carefully.
>Sarcina
In the end, the Sarcina is the worst of backpacks, and that is why it is the best of them. Deprivation does a soul good, and with a remainder of age-old Rome rattling on my shoulders, I'll know that I walk with an ancient legacy behind me. I've used a similar bindle a couple of times and don't make this choice out of ignorance, but with full awareness of how much pain I'm putting myself in. I have a furnace inside me, and spite is the very best fuel.
>Compass:
This one is a cinch. A few minutes of looking them over is all I need to make my choice.
>Geological Compass
I'm no stranger to orienteering and like to have a lay of the land, where I can. What better method than one I already know like the back of my hand? Personally, the little gadget is a reminder of old days, better in some ways, worse than others. It reaffirms that if I got this far, I can go farther. I will and I must.
>cont
>>
>>97478820
>Items:
These are the most important things I have, and overlooking any areas would be remiss. Slow and steady may win the race, but the biggest obstacle is in keeping up the pace. Easier said than done.
>Water Filter
No man can go without water, and even a fool ought to hedge his bets. Thirst has been the end of stronger men than me, and I'll avoid it if I can. Between this and a few old tricks, our party should be set.
>Hammock
A good night's rest is essential. I've slept on the ground and could do it again, but swinging at night will get me some quick and deep shut-eye. Even so, we'll be setting up a rotating watch, and I'll do my part to pitch in. Can't be too safe.
>Foot Powder
With the Heroes' Trail comes a heroes' march, and with that, a heroes' chafing. It's inevitable and to some extent, blisters and calluses are a good thing, but too much of a good thing is bad. Bloody socks have never done a body good.
>Natural Sponges
Absolutely mandatory. If I had to sacrifice all four choices to get my hands on these, I would not hesitate for a second. There's nothing more miserable under the sun than doing the dishes with a dirty rag, but these mitigate that risk. On top of that, they'll keep us clean and carrying on.
>cont
>>
>>97478829
>Sentiments:
I've approached the Trail of Heroes with blind determination. It's only to be expected that it will try to give me the gift of sight in turn.
>Test Me
We will suffer, and experience the worst that these winding paths can throw at us. It will either dash us on the rocks, or bring out the best of us as we climb to meet the challenge. Pain. Misery. Struggle. All of these are whetstones for the human spirit, and will sharpen us accordingly. This world depends on us to reach our destination and so, we'll keep walking. We will and we must.
>Free Things:
Conan has his opinions, and I have mine. The best things in life are free. Sweat after a hard day's work, dull soreness resting on weary bones, hitting hard limits and pushing into them with all my might, just to stumble back and try again. These are what I live for.
>Starry Nights
Swaying on a hammock under an open sky, looking at the cosmic symphony unfolding. Soaking in that crisp, twinkling stillness for as long as it lasts, night after night. That, is something I'd be willing to die for.
>Calls:
I can feel it stirring in my bones. The Trail of Heroes calling out to me. In my weariness, I imagine the burden on my shoulders whispers in my ear. Rationality has no place here. I lean in, and I listen.
>Call of the First Ones
I'm not the first man to walk the Trail of Heroes and I won't be the last. It asks for a quiet respect. That's not enough for me. I'll go on a thousand wild detours, tread slipping mud and crawl boiling sand for them. The art of old. Precious secrets to see, and remember, and pay silent homage to where they can be found. They'll sit there, still as ever, and I'll wrestle from their pigments and carvings the strength to carry on. I will and I must.

What a great moment to check back in on this hellsite. Glad to see you again pal and happier still that you enjoy making these as I do playing them. So; without further ado:
>Pigeon Compass, Sarcina
Doing a Roman march reenactment seemed like a good idea at the time. Or at least I assume it did, having stumbled head-first into some uncanny patch of grit has robbed me of recent memory and apparently of everyday reality too. I've a strange sense understanding about these parts all the same and though the Trail is sure to be arduous I know already that it'll be rewarding too.
>Mediterranean, Volcanic, Archipelago, Mountains, Temperate Forest
The Ruins are overabundant, spilling from the Mediterranean stretches into pyroclast-preserved villas, drowned Cothoi, pass-spanning aqueducts and overgrown hermae. Were the March's demands not eternal I could spend a lifetime recording the remnants around me.
>Cloak, Knife, Lantern, Arnica
What I wouldn't give for a Flask of posca but the old Cloak, Knife and Lantern somehow feel Heroic in some Small (yet important) way. Ordinarily I'd spit on the notion of homeopathy but it seems an orichalc third eye and supernatural surrounds do a number on one's skepticism.
>Test You, Cookouts, Call of the First Ones
"An army marches on its stomach" remains true even for so paltry a party as I and whoever endures hardship beside me. "Hunger is the best seasoning" also holds up. It may not be fancy fare but heartier meals I've never had. There must be something to that animal satisfaction as I feel myself peering past familiar ruins and further ab immemorabili. If playing half-arsed Romeaboo started me on the trail maybe aping what we were just before Sapiens will take me off the path? Or perhaps set me on one still stranger...

I found why the GA and CW accommodated additional sefirot even though they knew that it would force them to converge.
Major spoiler ahead:https://lordofthemysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Calamity_of_Destruction#Adv ancement_Condition
>Primordial God Almighty foresaw the danger of the Mirrored Original Creator and intervened personally by accommodating the City of Calamity and inserting "His" own consciousness into the City of Calamity as a Chaotic Head to serve as a barrier to prevent yin and yang from fully merging, halting their integration.
The situation should be more or less like this: CW knew that GA, with his now superior power, would come kill him. Therefore, CW also accommodated another sefirah to resist him; both dying by combat is better than letting one do whatever they want to the other for a while. Things spiraled from there.

This one really distills the humanism of your other CYOAs. Even if you never make anything else, I think it's a great capstone. Thanks a lot for your work over the years, it opened me up to this medium as something significant and will likely always be my favorite. I love how grounded it is in place, your art choice is great, themes are unique takes on classic tropes, it has replayability and connectivity, "challenge". It feels like an actual adventure - as in a journey of personal growth - and to some degree can inspire real action in the real world, partly because it mystifies things that are otherwise mundane. Various anons have said you're involved in some kind of environmental activism; to me, this reads like it may be heavily inspired by that, but I might be projecting. I understand if you don't feel like answering, but I wonder: how do you regard this hobby (or whatever you want to call it) in light of the collapse we're living through, and what draws you to it personally? I also want to say that your CYOAs remind me of a book, which is seemingly unrelated but you might enjoy: "Tools for Conviviality" by Ivan Illich. Probably there is some other stuff I'd like to mention but I will forgo that

Not sure what you mean! I'm a big fan of the guy's work, curious how the supposed reason he stepped away from this hobby is reflected in the CYOA he decided to come back with, and wanted to ask what CYOAs mean to him in general. Most people here don't really seem to take life or the world seriously, let alone this somewhat silly pastime. It would be interesting to hear what someone who's concerned with a better world (and presumably[?] one with progressively less of the tools we use to make and view CYOAs) thinks about all that
>>

>Not sure what you mean
Suppose I want to tell you that I appreciate your efforts at reposting older CYOAs to keep the thread afloat, but instead of saying that, I say
>Your reposts really highlight the underlying problem of federal agents monitoring 4chan and the rise of gangstalking cases. I appreciate the fact that you put a trip on because, like many, I feel that the loss of identity is something so many people struggle with these days, most likely because of the way society pressures us into chasing things that don't bring us any fulfillment. I would recommend reading the "Chakra management 101" by McFuckerson but judging by your posts you are already on your 20th step to enlightenment. Glad that you agree with the notion that people should take fentanyl on a daily basis.

I visited Canada a long time ago and I remember my guide saying that there's never been a recorded bear attack on a group of 8+ people, same goes for wolves I believe. I'm glad you liked my CYOA's. I studied environmental science at university, so I take a lot of inspiration from the earth sciences in my work. Endless Ocean and Pioneer are good examples of that.
How do I see the hobby amidst the collapse? Same as the other things I enjoy. Everything in my life outside of the climate crisis is going pretty well. Mainly I feel sad that we've been given a beautiful world full of abundance that provides everything we need for everyone and more, yet still we're somehow fucking it up. I'm not sure what level of escapism is healthy, but I don't think it's a sin to have at least some. I started putting my time into other things which is why I stopped posting here, but I wanted to try and build some writing momentum again and I always found CYOA's the easiest thing to write. Weird choice of punishment given that stoning people to death is a bible thing, and yet polygamy is never condemned in the bible except where a wife is not treated with enough respect. In most of those cases the issues are the same as with a single wife, or pertain to inheritance. So, no.

Ah, but there's a slight problem: I love soup and stew. Weirdly enough even though it's not the focus, one of the things I like about your CYOAs is the interactivity of food. It's the same reason why I want to travel through so much wetland, I like the idea of catching fish and turtles and beavers and river dragons for all I know to eat like a cajun adventurer (but without the humid swamp climate).

Downsides
Specialist (Conjuration) +4 (24); Doesn’t seem like a big loss, all the spells are lame
Paranormal Magnet +4 (28); This is a boon if anything, as a mage I would hope to interact with the paranormal
Demon Lord (34); I will have a plan to escape to, and a golem army by the time I am done
Wife
Elizabeth the Incomplete -4 (30)
I love a curious woman who can challenge me intellectually
Her superman strength will allow her to keep up with me in battle, and I will need a general
Free magic items make up for my lack of conjuration
I am not taking ‘Immortality’ spell, so she can make artificial bodies for mortals who we deem worthy
I find her current body ugly, but perhaps she will alter it to my preferences when she makes an immortal one
Special Magic
Dimensional Traveller -3 (27); Crucial if hunted by a Demon Lord, and if I am immortal I do not want to stay on Earth forever (it will get boring)
Quick Magic -4 (23); Alongside Warp Perception, near-instant casting will grant me a great edge in battle
>>
>>

>>97481536
Magic Spells
Mage Body Spells
Warp Perception -1 (22); As mentioned, very powerful when paired with Quick Magic
Sense -1 (21); Basic ability needed to exist in the magical world
True Sight -1 (20); Basic ability needed to exist in the magical world
Conceal -1 (19; Everybody’s eyes are on me - for peace of mind, I must be able to hide
Suspend Biology -1 (18); Nice perk to being a mage
Body Enhancement -2 (16); All around bonus, useful in both life and combat, part of my new Mage identity
Flight -2 (14); It would be a shame to be a mage and not soar
Combat Spells
Barrier -1 (13); Mostly for others, I do not need it, could be useful for preventing poison, near instant activation
Magic Immunity -1 (12); Crucial for fighting other mages, near instant activation
Light Beam -1 (11); Most enemies I could defeat through normal means, and thus there is no need for basic magic like Arcane Missile. Light Beam is my finisher, my annihilator when regular tricks won’t do
Mobility Spells
Blink -1 (10); Short range combat, go through walls, powerful with instant activation
Teleport -2 (8); In my opinion crucial for a mage who travels across dimensions
Utility Spells
Heal -2 (6); I like helping people, what can I say
Pocket Plane -2 (4); Useful to hide from the demon, and kind of crucial if a dimension traveller wants to have a home, or a mage wants to have a library
Telekinesis -1 (3); Good for long range fighting but useful for every day life too
Transformation -2 (1); Should not need to explain why this is cool, also instant
Dispel -1 (0); Wasn’t sure where to put this one but it’s useful
I am happy with this build. Basically immortal god, all my weaknesses are covered, I can do whatever I want. Priority one will be doing all I can to help dearest Elizabeth complete herself. Maybe we can dimension hop for more information. It will be fun adventuring together and trying out my new powers.

Damn... I am 3.
If I was in that world I am guessing Power/Waifu hunter, just want to be as strong as possible while also searching for a good partner.
I am guessing immortality even with nen is either a no-no or very easy. Depends on if what Kite did is possible to replicate without getting eaten by a chimera queen, if it is, then its fairly simple to literally decide to reincarnate using nen (which is weird as you would expect more people to do it) if it isn't, then I think its impossible unless you go to the Dark Continent and find that Rice that gives lifespan.
So I would be power autist searching for the dreamed waifu.
Having said that and seeing how old is that cyoa. I am thinking about making a HxH cyoa. But the biggest question is how should talent be handled? Because talent is ALL in HxH, so the player can either be overpowered if Meruem's talent is allowed or (realistically) a fodder guy if he has run of the mill talent.
>>
>>
>>97482151
Actual full reincarnation is shown to be fully possible and replicatable but nen is empowered by risk (I think) so there's a good chance that doing it consistantly would require some insane conditions and/or human sacrifices
It would probably be much easier to just continually replace parts with summoned ones and conjure your way to most of immortality
If you were to do talent, I would reccomend having it be personalitybased, because it's fun, stops the little identity death of having something that should normally be beholded to someones mind and habits being taken out of their hands, and because it means people are forced to make builds that actually match them instead of minmaxing
I would actually be kind of fun to have a magic system the explicitly benefits from being channeled through an object you like or associated with an idea you care about
>>
>>97482182
>If you were to do talent, I would reccomend having it be personalitybased, because it's fun, stops the little identity death of having something that should normally be beholded to someones mind and habits being taken out of their hands, and because it means people are forced to make builds that actually match them instead of minmaxing
Talent based on personality? I don't understand. There was that Hisoka's personality test that was called in the manga itself as not reliable. Do you mean that? The nen type? Transmutation, Conjuration and such? I could do it, it fits the "you don't choose your nen type" which is something some characters like Kurapika would have wanted. Or make it random.
But I meant Talent, like, how good at improving you are.
In the series there is fodder guys thta can spend years to learn the 4 basic applications, while Zushi did it in like 1 year and Gon and Killua in a month. Then Tserried just got it in a week with a teacher trying to make him go slow and Meruem is beyond anyone else.
>>
>>97482151
>But the biggest question is how should talent be handled? Because talent is ALL in HxH, so the player can either be overpowered if Meruem's talent is allowed or (realistically) a fodder guy if he has run of the mill talent.
Meruem-level talent is a no-no in my opinion. That's just asking to trivialise the entire cyoa. I would say keep it in the Killua-Ging range, extremely talented but not CYOA-breaking.
>>
>>
>>
>>97482247
That carries the problem that realistically, everyone is fodder. You need several thousands of people to just see 1 with talent.
>>97482239
I think I will leave it at Mc level, Gon-Killua for everyone. Good talent but still needs years of hard training to be at high levels and can't beat experience with just raw talent
>>
>>97482259
>I think I will leave it at Mc level, Gon-Killua for everyone. Good talent but still needs years of hard training to be at high levels and can't beat experience with just raw talent
Yeah that works, it gives you enough freedom and assurance without diminishing the stakes. Not to mention, Meruem's level can be reached with Gon's talent, so you can reach the truly top tiers eventually.
>>
>>97482259
1)
*I* would have good talent
2)
I obviously meant that total talent should be the same for everyone, and thusly slightly above the setting average for everyone
And then specific things should be listed or similar
>>
>>97482268
Meruem's level can be reached if you are a power autistic for decades. But we have to take into account Meruem lived for 1 month and had a hatsu to permanently increase his power with a very easy condition. Meruem doing the same is a DBZ character
>>97482269
>*I* would have good talent
Me too. I would be Meruem^2 (I would be very lucky to be Leorio or Zushi level)
>I obviously meant that total talent should be the same for everyone, and thusly slightly above the setting average for everyone
Then the Gon-Killua talent fulfills it.
Then its settled. The rest is just searching for things to add and make some companions.
>>
>>97482284
Keep in mind that in HxH, intelligence and battle IQ can be even more important than raw talent. And if you factor in how Binding Vows work, anyone can beat anyone if they're willing to pay the price. Also are you going to pre-made Hatsus? or leave them to be custom made by the player like the old cyoas?
>>
>>
>>97482284
/actually his gaining powers upon eating people wasn't a hatsu, it was very likely an inherent trait of him being a type of ant that gets powers from the things they eat. I assume all the chimera ant kings are like that
>>
>>
>>97482297
>Also are you going to pre-made Hatsus? or leave them to be custom made by the player like the old cyoas?
I am torn desu. I like pre made powers over totally custom ones. Just like I prefer companions made by the creator over letting me create them. But this setting is very "make your own thing". So I don't know. I could make some predefined ones as examples.
About Hatsus, should they be brought? They can be made anyways with training, its not like a Curse Technique of JJK that you are stuck with 1
>>
>>
>>97482305
I think its his hatsu given Pitou said "so this is the power of the king..." like she was wondering it and discovered it upon seeing Meruem eat. Which is weird for them to discover such a key biology trait just when it happens, when they basically know everything else by instict already.
It also doesn't make much sense to the King-Queen cycle.
In theory the Queen Mother makes the King to be as strong as possible, then the King leaves and goes to spread his seed with females of other species, that give birth to Queens and the cycle continues, hopefully with stronger genes. If the King does not gain the genes from what he eats, it wouldn't be passed down. Also, it would make the ants too weak if it worked like that, as any being has nen, the small ant kings should have discovered nen long ago before humans.
I just think its like Pouf's scales. A trait of their biology(the wings and scales) being used to create a hatsu (hypnotic scales and emotion sense) turned into a Hatsu. Meruem is from the species that gets stronger by making the Queen give birth to stronger soldiers by eating, and Meruem, the nen genius King that loved the taste of nen users and who is as strong thanks to them, made that into a hatsu.
>>
>>97482319
>So I don't know. I could make some predefined ones as examples.
My advice is to make at least 3 Hatsus for each category, but leave the custom option open. Don't do generic shit like "Fire Transmutation hatsu" or stuff like that, try to be unconventional even if you skirt away from canon.
>About Hatsus, should they be brought? They can be made anyways with training, its not like a Curse Technique of JJK that you are stuck with 1
They should, something as potent as Hatsu shouldn't be a freebie. Make the price relative to the power of the Hatsu itself (Skill Bandit will obviously be more expensive than Bungie Gum for example).
>>
>>97482365
>They should, something as potent as Hatsu shouldn't be a freebie
Freebie in what sense? I had in mind being able to buy them with points, but also clarify you can train later to make them if you don't buy a hatsu.
Unreleated but:
Should chimeras be an option? Normally all important species would be included but it feels weird to leave that option.
Something you would like to have included?
I guess I will make it based on the HxH world with an option to instead make nen come to our world like HxH, which is why I would prefer. So everyone can choose to be a reincarnation or just stay here
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97482357

Yeah that works, but the custom option should till have a price otherwise people will just ignore the presented options and go for the free open ended one.
This also reminds me, how are to implement the Restriction system in the cyoa? My idea is to give each Hatsu option 3 tiers of power, each higher tier is more expensive and has more severe restrictions.
>Should chimeras be an option? Normally all important species would be included but it feels weird to leave that option.
You mean as a race? yeah sure, as long as it isn't a King as we've discussed. Even a royal guard is really pushing it since they also have busted inherent abilities.
>Something you would like to have included?
I would love to see some Nen-technology like we saw in greed island but to a lesser extent. Nen-beasts also would be nice, and perhaps even some headcanon/fanfic dark continent extra-content maybe?

Canonically for battle, Enhancer.
For 1 hit hax, Manipulator.
For hax, Conjurer.
To be unpredicatable, Specialist.
For simple but versatile, Transmuter.
For kamehamehas, Emitter.
Personally, Emitter or Transmuter. Very close to enhancement without it being your whole thing. Emitter has long range attacks and teleportation, Transmutter 1 substance to make your whole kit about.
I would mix them both and sned flying nen slashes hidden with In
>>
>>
>>97482483
I always thought Enhancer has extremely wasted potential in HxH. They can Enhance ANYTHING about themselves, including objects they're holding. Unfortunately it just regarded as the "retard unga bunga"/"while your having sex I studied the blade" specialisation.
>>
>>97482473
>I would love to see some Nen-technology like we saw in greed island but to a lesser extent. Nen-beasts also would be nice, and perhaps even some headcanon/fanfic dark continent extra-content maybe?
That could be the item section.
I wanted to some items like a lesser Nitro Rice for lifespan.
Nen-beats like the princes? Sure.
>Yeah that works, but the custom option should till have a price otherwise people will just ignore the presented options and go for the free open ended one.
Thats what I was thinking. With points you could make a custom one right out of the bat, or buy one premade if you dont like custom powers. If you dont buy anything you dont cripple yourself as you could learn on your own, its simply skipping training.
>This also reminds me, how are to implement the Restriction system in the cyoa? My idea is to give each Hatsu option 3 tiers of power, each higher tier is more expensive and has more severe restrictions.
I thought of making Restrictions give points for the ability that they are attached to. So if you spend lets say, 100 points in a hatsu, you could add restrictions to make it a 200 points hatsu. Some abilities would inherently need some restrictions to just work, others could use them to be stronger. The latter is what I mentioned and the former could be a "this type of ability needs a restriction of at least this level" or something like that.
Because some abilities like Hatsu stealing ones, would need several and just points would not be enough
>>
>>97482483

I think leaving nitro rice on the dark continent is for the best, as it forces people to genuinely consider going there
It's nice to give people reasons to group up
Actually overall it would be nice to have a small multiplayer thing about becoming a team and trying to go somewhere like that.
A hatsu is like a language. You could learn any number but you'd likely stop benefitting after about the second. Putting "Points" into them implies they are innate when they are infact a skill. (Although being more skilled with a given hatsu could well improve it in place of restrictions)
Restrictions enhance willpower, and willpower enhances nen. It is effectively the same as putting more nen in to the ability. No one could copy meruems light bullshittery without 10,000 restrictions, but he could freeball it
>>
>>97482522
>I thought of making Restrictions give points for the ability that they are attached to. So if you spend lets say, 100 points in a hatsu, you could add restrictions to make it a 200 points hatsu.
This would work great for the custom Hatsu option but not for the pre-made ones. Leaving it open-ended like that is just asking for anons to abuse it. I think the three-tier restriction system is more suited for it, since you're the one who's making the powers you would now the appropriate type and severity of restrictions to give each Hatsu.

>>97482564
Eh, the multiplayer option is easy to add.
I wanted a knock off nitro rice for the "nen comes to our world" merely because the ones that would go to the HxH would have reincarnation, so extra years. With knock off I mean its not truly nitro rice to endlessly prolong your life, just some years.
>Putting "Points" into them implies they are innate when they are infact a skill. (Although being more skilled with a given hatsu could well improve it in place of restrictions)
The points are to skip training, they are not an innate skill but some abilities are harder to create. Its not the same to learn Paper as an emitter and to learn Hide and Seek. Hide and Seek requires more time and mastery to even be created, so it would cost more points.
>Restrictions enhance willpower, and willpower enhances nen. It is effectively the same as putting more nen in to the ability. No one could copy meruems light bullshittery without 10,000 restrictions, but he could freeball it
I think restrictions can be used to add more nen/strength to the ability, like Gon's Rock being empowered by the chant, but being able to exist without it if he didn't add it, just weaker.
And so the ability is usable at all. This is true for strong abilities.
Hunter's secret was obvious to Zeno to have 4-5 restrictions at least, as stealing hatsus is a strong ability. But its not because of nen usage, Chrollo doesn't look like he consumes a lot of nen to steal an ability nor to use it. Hakoware which is a 1:1 nen translation between bodies (at least from user to victim) and so.
Meruem's light is transmutation, which is a nen type with next to no conditions usually, and he is the talent man of that universe. So it makes sense he can transmutate to something like that by pure skill. Meanwhile I don't think he could do Hunter's secret without conditions, as that would be just "steal whatever whenever you want"
>>
>>97482584
I mean, the premade ones will cost points anyway, and restrictions would only give points to be used with that same ability.
So if they buy "generic enhancer power #2" and want to add more restrictions than it has to add more strength or qualities to the attack? Sure. It would not be different from making a custom hatsu, buying what it does and add the restrictions to gain more points to that same hatsu.
It's the same in reality, the premade powers could be done with the custom powers (which is how their price will be decided) its just for people that doesnt go to go custom themselves, like me
>>
>>97482640
He literally did steal abilities with fewer conditions, by eating people
Pandunoka is another interesting example in this regard, because one of her main conditions, being unable to read chrollo's memories, is only meaningful to her. If restrictions were innate it wouldn't make sense for anyone to be able to read memories like her through a restriction that does nothing, but if they are based on willpower then it makes perfect sense for personal losses to empower the nen
Hunter's secret being hard enough to need restrictions makes sense because all humans have a roughly similar level of ability. Additionally, said restrictions did actually have physical things to do with the copy ability, like getting people to explain the thing and touch the book. I suppose that makes them a different type of restriction to the willpower based ones, Like a conjurers item
I agree that somethings are harder to create in general, but most restrictions seem to be willbased

>He literally did steal abilities with fewer conditions, by eating people
I would argue eating people is harder than Chrollo's restrictions.
Chrollo must witness the Nen ability in action with his eyes.
He must ask questions about Nen and be answered by the victim.
His victim's palm must touch the handprint on the cover of Bandit's Secret.
All of the above must be completed within one hour.
Basically the only hard part if you already at "I can kill him and eat him" range is making them answer, but torture is a thing and maybe manipulator abilities could bypass that.
I think its willpower based, yes. Thats why Pakunoda's condition was meaninful to her. Nen being also emotion based is supported by the whole Dark Arc of Gon making him a threat even before Gon-San.
But that doesn't stop some abilities for needing restrictions to operate. Maybe a super guru genius could do with less and weaker restrictions, and maybe if you put Meruem training for it he does it even without restrictions eventually. But realistically, something like Bandit's secret will always have several restrictions to operate, without it really empowering the ability, just making it work. Maybe Chrollo could have added "Never see again the Troupe" in exchange of two restrictions.
>>
>>97482721
For the same ability that restriction is attached to.
For example, using 100 points to create a enhancement hatsu, it would be a hatsu without restrictions, easy to do. But if you add Restrictions like chants, like Gon's Rock, then you would another X points to spend on that ability. Making it stronger or have another quality, basically adds more points for the pool of points of that ability.
>Additionally, said restrictions did actually have physical things to do with the copy ability, like getting people to explain the thing and touch the book. I suppose that makes them a different type of restriction to the willpower based ones, Like a conjurers item. I agree that somethings are harder to create in general, but most restrictions seem to be willbased
The whole restriction thing is hard to translate. I will have to think more about it. Probably the last thing I will do
>>
>>97482740
Killing and eating someone to get it permanently would be much better then needing them to do a series of things to get it until they die, and I would guess that most people could not get to the level of copying anyone they could eat. Bindolt or whoever could only read diagnostic data from human hair and he was obsessive about such things
I think there could genuinely be an unexplained gap between the literal restrictions and the willpower ones, but with nen you could always use more nen to cover a given restriction
With enough [Strong Nen] you could create eyes to see someone with and a manipulation ability to read their memories with and then conjure the book directly in their hands. It would simply be extremely, inhumanly difficult to do all of those at once and require an inhuman aura
We might then categorize restrictions into two types, those that increase willpower and allow one to summon more of their bodies nen, and those that decrease the amount of nen needed to preform a certain task. Both are humanly needed but not necessarily needed by monsters
>>
>>97482756
To me it sounds like you're just making overly complicated custom options. There's not that much difference between making restrictions from scratch and making up an entire hatsu.
>The whole restriction thing is hard to translate. I will have to think more about it. Probably the last thing I will do
My previous proposal is as follows:
>Hatsu Tier 1: Default price. Low to no restrictions, low to average power, high to extreme versatility.
>Hatsu Tier 2: Medium restrictions, high power, low to medium versatility.
>Hatsu Tier 3: Super restrictions, extreme power, little to no versatility.
This way you you don't need to worry about overly complicating the mechanics with extra points and what not, and you can make much more flavourful options without sacrificing balance.

Travelling Masterchef cooking up dinosaur steaks. I thought about including some sort of portable electric stove item but I didn't want to stack the list with too many gadgets. I feel like Call of the Wild might be a nice fit for this build.

I guess we can agree its skill based too. Meruem if he was a specialist trying to do bandit's secret probably can do it with less restrictions. While we also agree an ability that powerful will always need restrictions (not even meruem would develop "just steal whatever whenever")
>We might then categorize restrictions into two types, those that increase willpower and allow one to summon more of their bodies nen, and those that decrease the amount of nen needed to preform a certain task. Both are humanly needed but not necessarily needed by monsters
So nen amount and output? Yeah, but I am still pretty certain some type of abilities do need restrictions. A nen veteran like Zeno was sure the ability couldn't fuction without the restrictions, and without that many. Maybe meruem is an exception but as his talent is not humanly possible, nor in the cyoa it does not really matter.
Also, reading the wiki
https://hunterxhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Nen
in the part of conditions looks like we got more or less the gist of it.
Its probably the only part of the cyoa I will show when I got it (and will be made the last thing) without being finished, just in case I got some blatant flaws

Eh, that could be another way to do it. Surely it would be way easier for me.
So if I understood it right, there would be 3 tiers of hatsus based on the
Power-versatility-restrictions
conditions? These tiers would be both for custom and premade hatsus?
>>
>>
>>97482949
I didn't count him because I think he is basically that good. He made a King Crimson level ability in like a week instictively. I think he is at Meruem's level. Like genuinely beyond any human we saw by a lot, I doubt Ging reaches his level in talent
>>
>>97482949
Tserriednich was realistically somewhere far below meruem
Meruem didn't have any teaching, and was only about a month old. He understood gyo mere minutes after being born with no outside instruction of any kind
>>
>>97482966
I think that learning to do, by mere accident, an ability that lets you see the future and make it a set "fate" where only you can change it, while your objective was just learning Zetsu, its a feat of talent beyond learning Gyo in a few minutes.
Tserriednich opened his nen pores instantly too the moment he just meditated, and also did Zetsu as easy.
The true talent of Meruem I think its shown when he absorbed the guards and instantly did their abilities but way better. Just absorbing Pouf and evolving his scale ability to the light En one is incredible.

>So if I understood it right, there would be 3 tiers of hatsus based on the

Yeah premonitive much. Of course the versatility and power depend on the nature of the specialisation and the capabilities of the hatsu itself.
>These tiers would be both for custom and premade hatsus?
Since the custom option is dependent on the player's imagination I'd say just point them to imitate the pre-made examples.

Then what the fuck is the point in my them exclusively romanced by old men? Its not like the player's personality changes to mirror their age. Did italics say that? I refuse to believe he's that retarded.

It's not about personality, retard. It's about age and experience. Did you not read the age descriptions options. They talk about life experience and being handle to things.

>I'm pretty sure JJK was a big inspiration there. Magi Case old men ~ JJK clan heads
I doubt JJK had anything to do with it. Magi Case has multiple parts in companion profiles and that lore PDF stating that Mages are conservatives socially. They believe in monogamy, making divorces hard, oppressing gay people (Ironic considering some of the Auctors are bisexual (Ostane, Karrylicht)), and doing other fucked up shit like arranged marriages at 15 to grown adults in modern times.
You can't even vote because whoever the fuck is the head of your family which can be your random cousin holds power to decide policies. The fucking Witch Clan outright abuses male members and treats them as 2nd class citizens.

Mages in Magi Case seem pretty chill compared to most settings with masquerades. The Clans actively don't give a fuck if you using your magic for your own benefits, researching shit to become immortal, or making profit as long as you pay them a cut and keep your magical shit to yourself. You only get stopped if you act like a retard and cause a zombie outbreak or go around murdering random people with your magic.
