Honestly I don't remember shit about any of the Camarilla characters in the actual books. I like the faction's gimmick but at the end of the day I don't remember shit about them beyond the basics.

>tell me about your character, your game, your favorite splat, your favorite sect in that splat.
My Kitsune is still a WIP, so I'll go with my old Princess who was heavily inspired by picrel. She was Court of Storms and part of a mixed-splat CofD chronicle.
>what are some homebrews you use at your table
The old chronicle was riddled with them. The only one the ST has told us for our impeding Changing Breeds game is some adjustment to how rage impacts normal people.
>do you play in person, online, or through posts?
In person at a hobby store.
>what is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
I know the answer but if I tell you then they will know.
>if you were to be embraced which clan would you hope for?
Tremere.
>Which one do you you'll actually get?
Probably Toreador.
>traditions or technocracy?
That's tough. The Traditions seem more fun but I do have a certain fondness for stability.
>favourite merit, favourite flaw?
Don't have either.
>is your character on the list?
What list?
>Favorite fan-made splat?
Princess the Hopeful (honorable mention to Leviathan the Primoridal).
>have you played wraith?
No, but there was a wraith NPC whom I interacted with extensively in the old chronicle.
>You know what? fuck this thread! what is the best edition?
CofD did a lot right but overall I think OWoD had more soul.
>what is your haven like?
Last chronicle it was a hotel ripped right out of the show Angel.
>how does it feel to be a no-games?
Wouldn't know.
>how Gothic is your game?
Lightly to moderately, I guess.
>thoughts on malkavians?
If you're playing a malk for laughs, you've never been around someone with a significant mental illness.

>Princess the Hopeful (honorable mention to Leviathan the Primoridal).
Did they share the link for the newer version of leviathan? Princess is pretty neat but I have a hard time picturing a game where their stuff complements the scenario.

Forsaken sort of has a political divide in the Werewolves with Uratha and Pure, it's more like Pure are werewolf supremacists and Uratha are just doing their job. They're not hilariously evil like BSD are but they're certainly a few shades more black
>>97493002
I like the Arcanum but it's a specific flavor of hunter or game that doesn't mesh well with actual hunting. It's more like Paranormal Investigator-like, I think that could be cool. Like an urban legends collector.

The Pure are basically the Garou nation but more eager to deal with spirits of basically any kind for power.
This puts them at odds with the Forsaken because those mother fuckers are supposed to stay in the spirit world rather than possessing people or causing chaos to eat more essence.

>I haven't played wtf for a while but I remember them being rather tame for an "evil counterpart" of a splat. Like more akin to rival tribes less BSD
Then you have memory issues or your GM was an incompetent, because the Pure's plan for the world is a prehistoric savage wasteland where spirits rampage all over the place with impunity and the Pure rule over humanity, which is kept as slave chattel. So the Impergium from W:tA.

Magnificent Bastard Scheming Blood Sorcerer, finished/dead game, VtM, Tremere

African or European?

Perferably i wouldnt. I have a family that i love & being a vampire woukd fuck that up. If it cant be helped, Tremere or Caitiff, I either want access to powers, or to be left the fuck alone. Trying to fight your way to the top without magic would just be lame. Maybe a weirdo blood line like Maeghar
>Which one do you you'll actually get?
I have terrible luck. Id get something like Nosferatu
>traditions or technocracy?
Etherite or Hollow One
>favourite merit, favourite flaw?
Merit; Invocation, let's you make trinkets & magic circles & stuff that let's you do stuff just a little easier. Easily better than all the other -2difficulty merits. Half Life is another interesting one because its such an odd one
Flaw; to me. Flaws are much more character based than merits. Flaws really define a character so there isnt one that i like more than others.

First edition is rough and doesn't have much to it, but it has a clear direction for the setting and how a game based in it should be played and the mood players should be aiming for.
Second edition smooths down the rough edges and vastly expands the scope of the setting to allow the players to do a lot of crazy things, muddying the mood, theme and direction.
Revised edition cuts a lot of the scope creep for better or worse and establishes a clearer direction for the setting, to prepare it for the Time of Judgement and the setting's climactic finale.
Twentieth anniversary edition assumes that the Time of Judgement never happened and just serves as a depository for almost everything from the second and revised editions, plus some questionable alterations after over twenty years of hindsight.
This is generally true for all of the World of Darkness lines. If you want the "peak" World of Darkness experience, you will almost always want to play the second edition of whatever line you're interested in, with all of the weirdness that it accumulates over almost ten years before the "course correction" of Revised deletes half of it.
>>
>>97491663
I got a question. Wouldn’t it be hard, or even useless, to have 4 to 5 dots in Ressource in a Tradition Mage game? Unless it comes from an inheritance or something, wouldn’t the Syndicate screw you over your money just by virtue of being part of the Technocracy? Like unless you somehow managed to keep your identity a secret from the NWO, either men in black comes and seizes your assets because you’re a reality deviant, or corpo mages do Wall Street manipulation magic and you’re out of business.
>>
>>
>>
>>97493454
>with all of the weirdness that it accumulates over almost ten years before the "course correction" of Revised deletes half of it.
This seems to be a recurring theme in this story. What were the writers, developers, money men at White Wolf thinking when they dumped revised and eventually reached the clusterfuck that is time of judgment? "Oh, let's just end all our worlds and settings! this surely will be good!" is such a baffling decisions and way of thinking that I can't find any logic in it. If like they decided to commit suicide back then and never recovered after that.
>>
>>97493467
It depends on the nature of the Resources and whether the mage has a good selection of Spheres for defending it or easily recouping any lost Resources.
The Technocracy might have a hard time keeping a mage poor, if they can turn lead into gold, hypnotise venture capitalists into giving them millions or bind spirits of the Digital Web into serving as protectors of their bank accounts.

>>
>>

The Pure are the result of a political schism way back in pre-history. They're not BSD equivalents where they're fundamentally altered by a spiritual corruption, that'd be Bale Hounds, they're more like a Sabbat equivalent. Not ontologically evil, but practically evil.
The initial schism was predicated essentially on the grounds of what to do now that papa wolf is dead, and the gauntlet proper was thrown up. The Forsaken Tribes accepted the oath of the moon, wherein they must continue the duties of the father they killed and keep balance between the worlds of Spirit and Flesh. The Pure tribes said "that's gay as fuck, go to hell mom, we should be running this shit not playing hall monitor." The Pure hate the moon so much that they actively make themselves weaker by "flaying" their auspices off in an incredibly painful ritual. To make up for this, and also out of mutual interest against the Forsaken, they make far more frequent pacts with spirits and thus usually have stronger totems. What's very interesting about the Pure is that while they agree on the broad strokes of what to do (more spirits, return the world to a more primal state, reclaim our birthright as its rulers), the three Pure tribes would probably start fighting each other if they ever wiped out the Forsaken.
Predator Kings are the most unga bunga motherfuckers. They want outright return to monke. The world returned to a state of nature wherein they can hunt with impunity.
The Ivory Claws on the other hand, would want to rule over pillars of light like conan-esque warrior kings, while producing two dozen inbred freak babies with their cousin, because they're that kind of old money family.
Lastly the Fire-Touched think in more mystical terms. Their goal is, in extreme layman's terms, to bring a sort of nirvana to earth, with all things becoming one and connected as the spirit and flesh meld together. A very dark, mindbreak-y form of world peace through an all-encompassing religion.

>>97493718
Depends on the scenario. For that scenario, just like how the Wyrm's victory doesn't result in the total destruction of everything, the Weaver's victory doesn't result in the stasis of everything. Instead, everything supernatural dies off, leaving a world where humans are able to preserve civilisation and re-establish themselves as the dominant force and recover from a shards of a destroyed moon crashing into the Earth. It's accepted that the Weaver ending is one of the two "good" endings, with the Wyld ending featuring the annihilation of human civilisation and human progress being thrown back millions of years, but the preservation of magic and the natural world.
>>
>>97493803
>>97493718
I imagine the true end goal of the weaver is like static reality 2.0 where everything is just a shaped mass that can't move. 0 Entropy whatsoever
>>
>>97493891
The Wyrm's victory will result in total destruction of everything *eventually*. First, a millennia of murder-rape-kill-pillage-corporate enslavement though

>How do you think history would have been different if the Chronicles of Darkness came before the World of Darkness?
That is a very interesting question. I'm not much of a vampire fan so I'm not sure if Requiem would have caught on as well as Masquerade. I do think that if OWoD came AFTER that it would not have been well-received.
>>97493718
>Now I'm curious, what's the weaver ending? Reality frozen in time like a photo?
Some book described it as the entire world being like a theme park. Which sounds pretty sweet to me.
>>
>>97493955
Just like how people on /wodg/ are far too liberal about what causes Banality, they're far too liberal about what causes Paradox. As long as what you're transforming into gold makes some sense and is accompanied by a suitably advanced process that matches the mage's paradigm.
An alchemist turning a few hundred grams of lead into gold with a chemistry set and a lot of work is coincidental. A mage waving a hand and turning a person into a gold statue is vulgar.

Why does Quietus have a punch of discipline effects referencing Baal?
Is it meant to imply that there is some special evil in it like the whole thing with Vicissitude and the Eldest/Kupala? Did Quietus get named by Carthaginians? Is it meant to reference "hunting" Baal, given the typical hostility between the children of Haqim and the Baali?
Also, what would you say is the sorcery least evil/likely to be corrupted by a demon or worse? Dur-an-ki? One of the anarch paths?
>>
What are the spirits that the Children of Damballah and the Serpents of Light deal with? Banes?
Or did a Setite bloodline of all people somehow manage to loop their corruption all around to the point that they can have good interactions with Gaian spirits?
>>
>>97494376
I don't know much of about the assamites, but the least evil blood magic is just regular old non-dark thamauturgy. Of course least is doing some heavy lifting here, but standard tremere thaumaturgy is just regular blood magic barely divorced from its hermetic origin. No demons, no Wyrm/Apophis shenanigans, no Kupala, no tearing down the gauntlet bullshit, etc.
>>
>>97494342
For the Apocalypse scenario that's actually focused on the Weaver, rather than just the Weaver ending of the Apocalypse scenario focused on Rorg, it's a lot darker.
In the Weaver Ascendant, if the Weaver goes full steam ahead and makes the Gauntlet so thick that the Umbra is completely cut off from the physical world, everything in the Tellurian ends up dying, including the Weaver. If the Weaver practises some restraint and leaves the Gauntlet just permeable enough, there's enough of a connection that both worlds continue to survive, but without any sort of magic in the physical realm. Reality becomes an emotionless, unchanging clockwork dystopia and the Umbra becomes a reflection of it, locked forever in almost perfect stasis.
But the Weaver Ascendant assumes that you're playing a "Weaver is the real bad guy" style of chronicle and if that's not your taste, that's fine.
>>
>>97494376
Much as I would love to make the Ass*mites ontologically evil like Tziggers, I think it's just the result of the Clan being old and for a long time deeply rooted in the middle east. Dagon was a Mesopotamian god, and he's referenced in another Quietus power. Marduk is referenced in a ritual and he's another important one. The likes of Baal and Moloch were also legitimate deities that got recast as villains, false gods, and demons in the Abrahamic faiths because of some beef the ancient Jews had with their worshippers.
Thus, the names are probably a hold-over from their earlier nights. As for what the least likely to be corrupted form of blood magic is. I'd have to say Tremere Thaumaturgy unironically. It doesn't use spirits, deities, or any other sort of intercessor in casting the magic. It's still based on hermetic principles, which are fairly anthropocentric.

If I actually wanted to make money, I'd just do some faggy vampire melodrama for one of the big streaming services. It'd be one of the only ways to not make it absolutely normie-repellent.
But for me personally? I'd just adapt one of my table's Hunter: the Vigil games as an animated series. Nobody has the budget or frankly technical expertise anymore for good special effects in live action, especially for things like flashy magical abilities. Animation has to be the way to go if you want to actually convey magic well.

It'd be giving him too much credit. Besides which, he went out in the sun, and it'd be giving him too much credit to make him a Methuselah.
Don't get me wrong, the stuff he did was heinous, and it's concerning that he was involved with so many high-profile people, but he wasn't the evil genius some people have been trying to characterize him as. An evil genius wouldn't have burned half the bridges he built, actually got caught for what he was doing, and ended up getting whacked in a prison cell. He was a megalomaniac with some utterly batshit ideas and wormed his way into certain elite circles as a fixer and pimp with absolutely zero scruples, from there, he'd use the fucked-up things he provided for those rich and famous people to keep them in his sphere of influence.
Which is unironically how the Followers of Set prefer to operate, down to doing all this half for his own sick indulgence, and half to cultivate the connections and capital for his batshit (and esoteric/religious) ideas. But he fucked it up, ended up burning those bridges, largely because he forgot himself, I'd wager. For that reason I'd have to disagree with the other posters, I doubt the Setites would embrace him. He can walk the degenerate walk, but he got caught, and by the normies no less. Not worthy of the embrace.

Fire-Touched are pretty interesting. Yeah they want to break down the gauntlet and return to Pangaea, but their notion of what that actually looks like is more religious and esoteric. Unity, harmony, love. Spirit and Flesh freely comingling. Most genuinely believe it'd be heaven on earth.
Which is the fun part about the Fire-Touched, they really go against type when it comes to werewolves. Combining their lack of an auspice with the shadow gifts they have an affinity for, they're definitely the least good in a direct fight of any tribe. I mean, they can still enter their war form and start ripping things up, but it's not their specialty, nor is it something the Fire-Touched like to do. They want their enemies to come over to their way of thinking. Now this might involve outright brainwashing, but still. If they capture a Forsaken Werewolf, they'll try to convert them into joining the Pure. Same for anyone, really, they want everyone to join in their cult. Their ability to spread like, well, fire, can make them excellent for a lycanthropy as disease plot, without actually making lycanthropy a disease with all the logistical baggage that entails. Spreading through the area, converting your friends, your family, there's a lot of good material there.
>>
>>
>>97493816
The Fire-Touched would probably remain aligned with the Predator Kings since Rabid Wolf sided with them because Dire Wolf is the oldest and should be in charge.

If it is Vampire the Masquerade, go ahead, enough people play it that you should be able to make use of it.
If it is any of the other games, I would advise against it unless you personally has a passion for it, as Werewolf, Mage, Wraith and Changeling are all a struggle to find groups for and even combined, their popularity doesn't match Vampire's.

Alright, the period of the World of Darkness that was previously referred to as the new World of Darkness but was renamed to Chronicles of Darkness because of IP reasons was never a successful as the period of the World of Darkness that was previously referred to as the old World of Darkness but came to recognised simply as the World of Darkness due to the renaming of the Chronicles of Darkness because of IP reasons thereby making it redundant to label that particular period as the old World of Darkness.
Hopefully that's clearer.
>>
>>97495481
Odd as it may seem, I was there for the transition from oWoD to nWoD, and there was so much overlap. People would carry oWoDisms over into nWoD all the time and it was regarded mostly as a system with the explicit option to omit the metaplot.
>>
>>97495481
As the original person who that guy responded to, I'm afraid I must correct you: the period of the World of Darkness that was previously referred to as the new World of Darkness but was renamed to Chronicles of Darkness because of IP reasons was never a successful as the period of the World of Darkness, that was previously referred to as the old World of Darkness, but then referred to as classic World of Darkness with the release of the 20th anniversary books, but eventually came to be recognized simply as the World of Darkness due to the renaming of the Chronicles of Darkness because of IP reasons thereby making it redundant to label that particular period as the old World of Darkness.
>>
>>97495515
>it was regarded mostly as a system with the explicit option to omit the metaplot
I don't really agree with the idea that something about the World of Darkness (and when I say the World of Darkness, I mean the period of the World of Darkness that was previously referred to as the old World of Darkness before the period that was previously referred to as the new World of Darkness was renamed to the Chronicles of Darkness) prevented people from excluding the metaplot from their games, while the Chronicles of Darkness (and when I say the Chronicles of Darkness, I mean the period of the World of Darkness that was previously referred to as the new World of Darkness before it was renamed to the Chronicles of Darkness) allows its players to ignore the metaplot in a way that is somehow unique to that system, rather than something that can be done by any group with any game.

Yeah, ok. I understand this on principle. So uh, about the 4e Forgotten Realms and the Spellplague that advanced the timeline by a hundred years and killed half of the gods and destroyed half of the countries and completely transformed how cosmology and magic worked in the setting, and was so controversial that five years later the executives went crawling back to Greenwood and Salvatore, begging them to fix their mess...
>>
What people need to remember about the ending of oWoD is that it's not like oWoD was actually selling massive gangbusters at the time. Only some gamelines were profitable in the first place. VtM was carrying a lot of the burden but even its sales were trending downward. They didn't blow up the setting as a "fuck you" to fans, but because they were suffering from a slow downward spiral financially and eventually took a huge risk when everything else they tried failed to pull them out of it.
It's why the video games came out so late into WoD's lifecycle, that was an attempt to bring in new fans and diversify their source of revenue. Bloodlines dropped the same year they ended everything with Gehenna. What people don't understand is that WoD was no longer the runner-up to D&D when they did the Gehenna-into-nWoD hail mary.
You can say it was a bad play, or not like that they did that, that's fair. Personally, I like a lot of the nWoD/CofD lines so I would say it was worth it. One can't know what would've happened had they done something different.
>>
>>97495673
That was 1 version of DnD, they course corrected (in theory). Where was the course correction in WoD? they just doubled down until the whole company went bankrupt. Must be one of the earlier examples of dumb company who hates its fans and gets hit with reality.
>>
>>97495693
I like the "toolkit" idea and I largely use it. I also think they fixed a lot of the mechanical problems of oWoD. But I think the price they paid was that you had to make your own metaplot, and while they did give the "tools" to do so, for the less intelligent, that made it seem very bland.
>>
>>97495670
But you know exactly what people mean when they compare CofD and WoD and you fail to prove anything by making that point. nWoD has been called CofD and oWoD has been called WoD for over a decade now. It's not something that needs clarification.
>>
>>
>>
>>97495693
>oWoD was actually selling massive gangbusters at the time
It was the second biggest RPG besides DnD. They also got "fuck you!" money after that Underworld closed doors deal.
>They didn't blow up the setting as a "fuck you" to fans
Didn't some of the writers of late revised explicitly said they were tired of wod and their fans back in time? They also had beef with fans because of litigations and fan content. Sounds pretty bitch if you ask me.
>It's why the video games came out so late into WoD's lifecycle
Revised writers were still complaining about the writing in the videogame. And tried to convince BL1 writers to change stuff in order to keep their mental illness of a metaplot that was leading nowhere. Their mentality was stubborn and not open at all.
> that was an attempt to bring in new fans and diversify their source of revenue.
Contradiction. You can't pretend to bring new fans to a game and a setting you're soon going to kill. This is like if WoTC killed Forgotten Realms after Baldur's Gate 3. They didn't have a plan, they were just making stupid shit on the fly.
>Bloodlines dropped the same year they ended everything with Gehenna.
But it was in development way before that. They could have choosen not to kill the setting or extend it lifetime to support the boost in sales and new fans. They didn't.
>You can say it was a bad play
Is about not liking it or not, is about the change killing the franchise forever and thus causing perplexity on everyone who has a brain. I have more faith in new alternatives than in anything made by WoD at this point anyway.
>>
>>
>>
>>97495747
By 2004, they were absolutely not the second biggest RPG. The underworld lawsuit did not give them "fuck you money".
While many writers in Revised had an issue with fans, that is not the primary reason why they went to Gehenna.
On the video games, it's not a contradiction. Video Games take time to make, you even acknowledged this. Things can change between approving of Bloodlines and the game coming out. They clearly lacked faith in the product and decided to move forward with Gehenna. Worse still, I'd say they actually called that one right. Bloodlines was a total fucking flop when it came out. It killed Troika. It's only popular now 20 years later. Essentially the vidya was part of the last-ditch scattershot approach to recapture the magic, same with the late-revised new lines like Demon and Hunter.
You need better reading comprehension, or this is just more trollposting.

Good question. I'm trying to find hard stats, but everything is doing gay ass market value projection into the 2030s, not showing historical market shares or sales values. And sales do not necessarily mean number of players.
I mean hell we try to figure out what's selling the best today but DriveThru only tells us who is buying online from DriveThru.

I get you really want to defend whatever material you enjoy from the corpse of nu-WOD, however is both embarrassing and dumb to lie about something widely known to be true and so easy to proof like WoD being the biggest RPG after DnD in the 2000s.
https://www.enworld.org/wiki/top_rpgs/
There's also confirmation it was widely successful even in the revised era.
>making White Wolf the second biggest publisher of tabletop role-playing games at the time after TSR, Inc.,[3] and by 2001, Vampire: The Masquerade was the second best selling tabletop role-playing game after TSR, Inc.'s Dungeons & Dragons.[62]

This is possibly the most common issue with Werewolf the Forsaken. 2e does its best to fix this issue by making the Pure far more objectively wrong and the Forsaken far more objectively correct regarding the killing of Father Wolf, but I do recall my 1e group strongly disliking the Forsaken only to be drawn to the Pure, even/especially our opposite-of-edgy "I want to turn the World of Darkness into a World of Brightness!" player.

There's a few problems here though. First, picrel, the disclaimer from the very site you linked. Secondly, nWoD didn't ever call itself nWoD. It just called itself World of Darkness, which added much confusion for everyone. Thus, there's a very real chance those stats are pooling sales from both together.

Cool story but they're still a more reputable source than the one you have (none). And as the previous statement shows, Revised era WoD was still considered the biggest RPG in 2001 when nWoD didn't exist.

Changeling was absolutely massive for a few years and made nWoD relevant for the first time ever. Though its popularity fell off, I think the only other nWoD game that was nearly as much of a hit when it first came out was Hunter the Vigil, which held on to its popularity for a lot longer.

Read the full message before sperging out. It was already the biggest in 2001. Sorry that you got caught lying, next time try to don't lie if you don't want to be exposed. Also, to make things funnier I'm going to drop this here since you tried to defend the useless late Revised writers who killed the franchise in a forum post in 2002.
>Well, he did once personally insult me for criticising one 'his' products. I took issue with the sheer weight of disclaimers in the new 'Guide to the Sabbat'. I felt patronised by the number of times the writers (Achilli among them) felt the need to remind me that I was not a Vampire. As a result, he posted a reply (on the V:tm message board) describing me as 'one of the many idiots' who criticised 'his' game.
I wonder how much dirt we can dig up on the writers of the Revised era? It seems that calling "idiots" your own fans is not good business practice folks!
>>
>>97495124
Maybe, but I think enough has changed that they might not just follow along. Their worldviews and goals have diverged pretty significantly.
>>97495918
I can see the appeal. They're the evil fuckhead werewolves that people have wanted for a very long time. What's interesting is that a lot of the criticism of the Forsaken as a faction is that they're the status quo. They're fighting to maintain the current metaphysical way of things. No bricking up the gauntlet, no tearing it down. Spirits don't fuck with humans, humans don't fuck with spirits.
Which is interesting, because in other WoD games that try to push you to play anti-establishment characters, a lot of people choose to play as the establishment. Maybe WoD players are just contrarians.
>>
>>97496033
>which is I think when they stopped selling physical books
That's around when they transitioned (lol, poor choice of words given their politics) into PoD. I recall being on the chat rooms/forums they hung out in at the time. I raised the point: "Aren't you a publishing company? Arranging print runs is part of being a publishing company." I don't recall if they banned me for this but I do recall they weren't happy about it. They insisted that this isn't how it works anymore or something to that effect.
I brought up how they were getting all kinds of Kickstarter money. That's part of the point of the cash, right? You don't just pocket it, it's to fund things like production.
>>
>>97496058

Your reading comprehension is truly staggeringly awful if you think I was defending fucking Achilli. Nobody likes that guy.
The point of my initial post was that Gehenna and the sorta-reboot, sorta-new setting that we now call New World of Darkness was not the result of a single factor such as baby raging writers being mad at fans. It was the result of a lot of messy things going on both internally and externally. It seems you have a lot of personal anger at these writers, but please, don't project it onto other people.
>>
>>
>>97496064
>Which is interesting, because in other WoD games that try to push you to play anti-establishment characters, a lot of people choose to play as the establishment. Maybe WoD players are just contrarians.
Kinda, they were trying to make a scenario where a revolution would make sense and be viable with the vampires but at the end of the day they really didn't give them a good enough reason to stay together as a society in most scenarios.
In werewolf they just wanted an excuse for extra weird combat and/or gooning and everything else was extra

>The Technocracy might have a hard time keeping a mage poor, if they can turn lead into gold, hypnotise venture capitalists into giving them millions or bind spirits of the Digital Web into serving as protectors of their bank accounts.
Oh I see! That’s good to know! I really want to try out the last one. I’m still thinking about my concept of a ferectoi mage and my concern rose up when I was thinking how to play a rich guy that’s not with the syndicate. Probably against them if the other players are from the traditions too.
I was looking at the Pentex subsidiaries and I found none that focused on sports. I think my character could be a CEO of a sports equipment company, perhaps also even handling contracts to athletes, etc. I can imagine some products already
>Hockey mitts that encourage players to stop the match and fistfight each other (big success in Canada)
>Baseball bats that pushes athletes to always outperform the rest, but it’s also draining their strength so they have to take steroids
>Soccer shoes that increase any pain felt by the one who wears them, to the point where one would roll on the ground and bawl their eyes out if so much as being brushed, but they also dissociate from the feeling of pain and completely forget about it the next minute

Like Mummies but you play up the Vatican's political machinations and corruption as they're taken over by increasingly insane undead (and formerly jewish) liches that have converted into christianity or born into it. Think like the Church in the Fate IP by Type-Moon but much more active. Can have many flavor of liches, lich-knights, Mage-liches, lich-monks, cleric liches. One of the twists I would like to go with is thatNoah would be the original Lich and he misinterpreted it as God's will that he became an undead monstrosity but he's also gone too senile due to age and activity to be a reliable source of information. I particularly like the gimmick of the Church in Fate having consecrated prosthetics that give you superhuman strength too.

To go into technicalities kinfolk can awaken. And it is written that kinfolk also are part spirit like garous, but their wolf is too weak or doesn’t equate to half their soul. It stands to reason that it is thus possible, but either missing enough of your human soul blocks you from awakening… or that in the case of other supernaturals what part you lost is integral to having an avatar. No matter if you have 30, 50, 70 or even over 90% of your soul remaining.
>>97497106
Through ST approval. Sometimes you can take backgrounds from other splats if it makes sense. In my case I wanted a ferectoi mage, and since ferectoi are the perfect banes incarnated (respected by other banes as top of the wyrm food chain), I went with Spirit Heritage 5.
And sure hunters do fit, but I think there’s something funny as mages, Traditions and Technocracy alike, would shit their pants whenever the Anti-Mage is there. Do so much as throw a fireball his way, even using a coincidental magic with a flamethrower or a Molotov cocktail, even as a freshman without any paradox dots, and you risk immediately getting dragged into paradox hell.

>Sadly, there's just no one who can be White Wolf as they used to be.
OPP getting it back would be ideal, but I'm not sure they'd want to do much more with it. They'd been pretty locked in by Paradox on what they could do with it, and Curseborne is a chance to actually go in a new direction, so they'd maybe just cruise with having a secondary team finish out anything else they wanted to do for CofD and finally be allowed to do 20ths for the rest of WoD.
And Rich Thomas has been with WW since they were a magazine writing about games, including the game that acted as WoD's Prototype, Nightlife.

White Wolf was always wrong about the elite. They were never loyal to a higher cause, they were never driven by ideology, they have always been motivated by nothing more than a selfish desire to warp the world into something that rewards them more for their wealth and that allows them to make the most out of it. Pentex is far more accurate than the Technocracy but even then, none of them should genuinely be loyal to the Wyrm, they should all just be in it because they want to be the god-kings ruling over the ashes of the world when he destroys it and making the Apocalypse happen themselves is their way of buying into that. Similarly, the Technocracy should just be a pyramid scheme ran by Nephandi, who dupe the true believers into keeping their oligarchy afloat so that they can continue to revel in decadence and obscenity beyond mortal comprehension.

I think she bought into the Pure propaganda on an OOC level. Paradise was lost when Father Wolf was killed by the Forsaken and the Pure, especially the Fire-Touched, aspire to remake that lost paradise. She really connected with that sort of utopian thinking and was willing to overlook the means, because the end justified it.

We're playing Dark Ages rn
Playing a Cappadocian who was originally a shepherd in life. Kept his dog as a ghoul. Long periods of isolation has led to him becoming extremely autistic. He is highly resistant to pain and will shrug off things that would make other kindred frenzy but he also crumbles to mild social pressure. I kinda wonder if I shoulda made him a Gangrel. He has extensive knowledge of folklore but very little factual occult information. One of my longterm goals for him is tounlock koldunic sorcery since I think it fits him and his obsession with spirits. Someone in an earlier thread mentioned summoning animal wraiths as an Animalism+Necromancy combo and now I wanna convince my st to let me try it.

>tell me about your character, your game, your favorite splat, your favorite sect in that splat.
Mage named Calvarian, Mage Awakening, Guardians of the Veil. By far the most interesting faction.. It was a good campaign, my GM had some solid esoteric ideas at play that made the setting interesting. The final reveal of the campaign was us figuring out that we were part of an elaborate, borderline eldritch plot organized by an ascended mage who twisted fate so that his best friend would be able to ascend and they could be bros in the supernal realm for all eternity. Good themes of how the entire game we were obsessing about the evil schemes of the Seers of the Throne, but it turned out that the forces of good were stronger the entire time and the outcome was never in doubt because Gandalf was on our side. This guy had high gnosis and was so inherently wise that all our characters were vastly enlightened merely by proximity to these events, so we all came out well.
My character was a kind of Guardians of the Veil majordomo, had a split personality between being a pothead and also a legit executioner of the Guardians, scoring all kinds of kills. I was a space mage, so I teleported razor blades into people's brains, I used Alter Direction to make it so that whatever direction my knuckles were pointing was down, Superman flew around dumpstering retards who were confused and couldn't understand how I was making gravity spaz out. One time the group came across a cursed man who had been imprisoned in a house for all eternity, so we solved him up by doing thusly: I used Alter Direction to make "Towards the sun" equal "Down" for his entire house, and then my buddy who was a time mage accelerated the terminal velocity ejection to superspeed and we obliterated the entire building and the guy in it by throwing the whole fucking deal into the sun. That either solved the curse or it didn't, either way, merging with the sun must be an improvement. Fun game.

My take on it is that Curseborne tries to do too much with too little space on top of not really having the "ow the edge" factor that older WoD products used to have. I'm not saying pedophilic cabals, cannibal rings, body-morphing sex gooners, and furry dark romance breeding kinks are what it's missing but frankly it's a bit lacking in flavor, even as just a paranormal mystery style of game
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>97499645
The game would certainly be a lot better or if had much more of a focus on dark folklore, but there are alternatives. It doesn't need to be WoD2 but in an age where WoD has been thoroughly de-fanged (heh) it would certainly help.
>>
>>97498329
I truly think that 5e WoD--H5, W5, and V5--need like a 5.5 edition to really shine. At least to me, 5th edition just needs some beefing up to truly shine (more lore/retcons of trashy 5th edition lore and mechanical options) and not really an entire like GAME overhaul which I think a ".5" edition would be perfect for.
I could just be an optimist Andy though.
>>
>>
>>
>>
Personally, I think this line of thought is a little misguided. WoD's biggest problem is that it's extremely balkanized. Three versions of the same game, with multiple editions in-between, and, for the first two at least, a half-dozen splats at least. So even if WoD had the market completely cornered on Urban Fantasy RPGs (and it doesn't), the fanbase is split between so many different mechanical systems and setting variants that each new line is practically quite small. This is why Paradox pulled the plug on CofD and 20th Anniversary, they were hoping to starve the players of those games into playing WoD5. It didn't pan out obviously but that was the logic.
I'd rather WoD5 just die off personally. It wouldn't undo the damage, but it would prevent more from happening. More WoD5 splats coming out will just split the fanbase further, and the invariable differences will either kill the fanbase or force it into increasingly bitter sub-communities. You can see the practical results of this balkanization right here, the amount of people who can, let alone want to, substantially respond and discuss your version of your favorite splat is tiny. Worse still, with oWoD and nWoD, there are clean delineations. WoD5 is a skinsuit of oWoD, and deliberately muddies the waters there. I might like VtM, but if someone's talking V5, not just mechanics but in lore, that makes it much harder for me to actually engage because of those not-so-little differences.
>>
>>97499820
the balkanization of the WoD community isn't really the fault of there being too many splats. it's because the devs keep trying to turn WoD into the game they wish it was rather then what the community wanted it to be and in WoD5's case antagonizing anybody that doesn't like their "superior" version of WoD by calling the nostalgia blinded, vapid and or stupid.
the thing WoD needs more then anything is just some devs who aren't high on their own farts

My only hopes for the X5 line is that it crashes and burns fast enough to make them get their heads out their asses and release 20th versions of Hunter and Demon. Maybe even KOTE: Comprehensible and non-retarded lore edition.
>>97499820
This. I don't think "CofD rules with WoD lore" was a bad idea but they went about it on the worst possible way removing the cool parts about both to enforce the style of game they want you to play. That and retarded lore decisions because they couldn't recognize that brand recognition and established fan tastes>internet anti-racism points
I personally also would want to be invested in the good things I hear from CtL or HtV or Promethean or Deviant but feel lazy in learning an entire new system and cosmology for each, even if it's a D20 system. I'm not saying "take all the Requiem factions, mash them into Masquerade overnight, and pretend they were always there" would be a good solution, but I can't imagine what other way would unite the fanbases.

>spoiler
This one is hard. Misery porn that's good requires player investment and buy in that's not exactly easy to get. So the misery porn can't come too frequently, or too fast, and you can't be masturbatory over it. I think it works best like a car crash you receive a premonition of, you know something bad WILL go down, you know roughly when it will go down, but you're helpless to stop it because if you aren't in route of that car crash something else that's bad will happen
>>
>>97500204
Yeah, though I think it goes above lore. V5's setting being about "What if Gehenna happened and was gay" kind of works somewhat since it gives an alternate focus on the rise of neo-vampires (thinbloods) and younger elders vying for power. This is chill.
Werewolves are just fucked outright in W5, beyond lore changes like the Get and other factions, Pentex is basically so dominant but lazy that you're fighting a steel obelisk with spears of wood, which cannot actively try to ruin you else the setting falls apart like wet paper.
If I had to more properly encapsulate what I mean other than "lore" changes, in which you are 100% correct as well, the WoD 5th edition games expect much more of you as the ST without actually giving you anything fun in return like with CofD
>>
>>97499920
I don't think you can reduce it to a single cause. Some people, though I really don't get it, do like WoD5 (mostly V5) on its own merits. Same with the other divisions. Even if the writers are smug pricks, there's still an appeal for some players. The balkanization existed before WoD5 hell it existed before nWoD. You've had people that are only really into VtM and don't fuck with the other game lines in oWoD. That's because different splats have different tones, themes, and appeals. Each subsequent "WoD" only exacerbates the balkanization, though it went from a minor problem to a major problem when WoD5 intentionally muddied the waters AND stirred up bitterness by cancelling the other two WoDs. Hell, when I was first getting into WoD, people were a lot more open to the idea of mixing and matching things from oWoD and nWoD at your table. Since WoD5 dropped, it feels like there's been a regression in that kind of thinking, as deeper division sets in.
>>97499992
To be honest, as someone who finds oWoD's mechanics borderline unplayable, CofD still isn't perfect, just much better in my estimation. I'd also say, in good humor, that it's an insult to both CofD rules and WoD lore to say that was the idea behind WoD5. Honestly, while one could agonize over the myriad of issues WoD5 has, I think it ultimately just comes down to Paradox being lazy and giving this new edition of theirs to a local LARP group some guy had a friend in. Then when that backfired, they keep passing the buck to different developers in a vain hope of unfucking it.
>but feel lazy in learning an entire new system and cosmology for each
That's entirely fair. I made a VtM conversion to CofD mechanics for my group, entirely because the guy who was gonna run VtM utterly despised the mechanics when he ran it before with another group. I wouldn't want to have to ping-pong between two d10 dice pool systems that have just enough similarities to make the differences even more confusing.

Ok so lemme see if I get this right. The gameplay loop for WtA is:
>create a woof, tribe, auspice, and breed for your starting gifts instead of disciplines
>solve problems, fight shit, get renown
>use renown and deal with spirits to unlock stronger gifts
>fight bigger shit, rinse and repeat
I'm interested in branching out but can't seem to understand if the common opinion is that Combat isn't either WoD's strong suit , how it is that a game can be based around mostly combat. Or does the changing breed regeneration remove its volatility of first attacker usually winning?
>>
>>
>>97500395
Werewolf combat is a lot more high octane than most of WoD. There's a lot of shit you could do by going Crinos or channeling your RAGE. Werewolf also isn't entirely about murdering wageslaves, there's a fair bit of politicking around Kinfolk being Kinfolk, other Garou in a sept, Pentex infiltrations to gain some info before your furry gang gets their yiffing heads blown off by shoulder mounted artillery or literal sex demons. It's still fairly roleplay skewed, just the drama is less about
>Woe is I the forever undead monster with no family
>My sire is a cunt, the prince is a fag, my coterie clearly wants to talk to these Sabbat niggers instead of killing them, such is the Cainite
and more about your jock fraternity wanting your hand-me-downs from your famous grandfather because you're an incompetent whelp and how your cousin is an abusive relationship while your best friend/gay lover is doing a James Bond mission into an animal blender laboratory using a stolen passport.

….Using muscles, bones and ligaments hardened by Tsuyonami, as well as their control over water to supernaturally ‘harden’ it, like the water’s surface at the moment of impact with a diver’s plunge, the Sunken can walk on, grip and vault over liquid water as if it was a solid, while not impeding her ease of passing through it.
A practitioner of this Magick can, for example, climb a ‘flight of stairs’ of pure water 2 meters up, before pushing against a ‘ceiling’ to gain momentum, then crashing against a rushing shark and splattering it against a ‘floor’ as hard as stone, all while being in the middle of the empty Ocean and never once touching anything other than water.
Though unusual, this Magick is what makes all that time spent training martial arts worth it, as there is no need to adapt surface-dweller combat techniques for a pelagic environment. Ironically, a heavy user of Water-Walk is a rather amateurish fighter on land, as they cannot shape their environment on a whim.
Does this get across that using this Sorcery essentially lets you do the mime ‘fake wall’ thing using water? Or should I dumb down the fluff and spell it out. The official name is “Wet Mime” so…
>>
>>97500363
i wouldn't call the difference between splats an issue. WW want to cater WoD to as many types of play as possible but to prevent WoD from becoming a homogenized mess they split it between the splats, each catering to a diffrent niche. which is fine so long as players understand that, which most did

So I was just given proof of something akin to magic the other week when I visited Ireland.
A five foot two old man I went to said he could tell me all there was to know about my life. But he didn’t want to because he said I could sue him for spying, and I asked him why.
He said it’s too unbelievable. Not because I wouldn’t necessarily believe it, but because there’s a chance I wouldn’t — and I would immediately go to the authorities claiming someone is spying on me.
He correctly told me my PIN number, health card dates, and even what I did in the safety of my privacy (this is where I got kind of scared). But he refused to tell me more than that.
I don’t know what to call this. There is no way he’d have this information without some sort of superior technology. He adamantly refused to show me more, as he claimed others have reacted violently. They always go to the authorities and say they’re being spied on.
I’m spooked. Imagine someone telling you exactly how you jerked yourself off.

I know someone who gets dreams where they talk to dead people.
I don't mean like, people they knew, I mean complete randos. This friend's completely ignorant of most-all history, but they come to me (who knows a bit) to try and cross reference what they saw. They'll describe something to me, and I'll try and match it - 'yeah, that's the kind of landscape', or 'no, no it was greener than that' or 'nah that's not the right style of clothing, it was more like... yeah, that'.
They're shockingly accurate. It's never anybody like, named or important (well except one time), they're just people who struggle to accept that they're dead, and my friend chats to them for a bit and helps them move on, sometimes over several 'dreams'.
I don't have any explanation. I know they don't know enough to come up with it; I genuinely think they've got some kinda gift and I want to help them hone it somehow, or travel to the places they see sometimes. But we all have a 9 to 5, lives to live, etc. I don't know that I beileve in magic, but I DO believe that. Maybe its got something to do with them dying for a few minutes when they were young, and walking back from the deep black at the end of it all.
I'd post this shit to /x/ but they're all schizo in the other way, this is just a "ghost" story and I want to share it under anonymity.
Any of you lot got any ghost/magic stories now we're cruising to page 10?

You know the MC being a medium that had no idea was the plot of the Wraith VR game. That was certainly an interesting one, shame it's not more popular as it's the closest a single person will get to play the masterpiece that is Wraith

So your friend talks to ghosts huh? That's really cool! You should tell me more about your friend, specifically age, place of residence, her daily routine, and other normal stuff like that.
No reason. Just want to ask them some...questions. Its for everyone's safety!

>grandpa you're pushing 70 already, when are you going to do cool werewolf things again?
>dad, it's been like 40 years of this honor bullshit and you can't even go along with it
>uncle-full-of-shit when are we seeing that inheritance again?
To be fair, the more family-oriented nature of Garou kind of implies that it'd be more self-imposed than anything. Someone has to teach young Garou, considering spirits are worthless and older Garou might be busy

It always kind of depresses me hearing these kinds of stories. When I was younger I learned everything I could about the occult, aliens, crypids, the works. I could tell you exactly what sigil some TV show background set dressing was, I could name myths & submyths, all the demons in the Ars Goetica & even knew some enochian. I was dead set to experience the supernatural, & it never happened. Almost every single person I know has a ghost story, or a supernatural spooky story. Except me. Nothing remotely strange has ever happened to me. I gave up on it, stopped looking into it, outside of normal nerd hobbies. Always bugs me.

I assume that's the Hellraiser kind and not the sexy red succubus kind?

Ah, so varied combat options for your own build-a-furry tool combined with teenage drama simulation. That does seem like It adds to the potential. Even if I prefer the "werewolf as an analogy of teenage years." to be more literal with the full moon representing sexual awakening or something

>tell me about your character
i am the forever ST the last character i got to play was a Tremere antitribu 3 years that i think i might have gotten a bit to excited on here about..
>your game your favorite splat
Mostly vampire (either) or demon (owod)
>your favorite sect in that splat.
ordo dracule, cyptics
>what are some homebrews you use at your table
i usually steal the cosmology from cultist simulator for spirits and stuff
>if you were to be embraced which clan would you hope for? Which one do you you'll actually get?
Baali /jk Ventrue seem to have a pretty good deal if you can manage to surrive your fledgeling era
>Which one do you you'll actually get?
my grandmother's surename is König so i would be a member of a minor giovanni familly
>traditions or technocracy?
i only got to play tradition games so far but would like to play a technocrat
>favourite merit
spirit mentor, ocular ability
> favourite flaw?
enemy, haunted
>is your character on the list?
my Tremere antitribu despite her best efforts did not make it on the red list before expiring
>Favorite fan-made splat?
i am the anon who got to see people be fired over being pedos in princess in a co-worker ttrpg group but i have no real experiance with fan splats otherwise
>have you played wraith?
yes and sadly it wasn't very good because the rest of the group didn't really get shadows.. i think
>You know what? fuck this thread! what is the best edition?
yes
>what is your haven like?
always underground or mobile. next time i would like to go for something classic like a gothic castle
>how does it feel to be a no-games?
i sometimes have a month where i have to cancel everything because of a very stressful project at work, but i am not sure if i feel awful because of no-games or because i am being worked like a maniac during said project.. well atleast the pay is good
>how Gothic is your game?
i think a lot
>thoughts on malkavians?
i have a softspot for the Ananke serial killer necromancer bloodline

Got a strange question for the thread, I know Dark ages has you go to a max of 6th gen for VTM:DA 20th but is there any that take place farther back and give you the chance to be 5th or 4th at max generation background?

yes elysium (also included in war of ages) for revised and the v20 true black hand book the first gives you extra "elder backgrounds" (and merits and flaws) which go further than normal backgrounds but usually also come with a flaw of some sort attached while the second just throws back the starting generation for members of the sect to 10th generation so that you can have a 5th gen right out of the gate
neither however allow you to have a 4th gen presumably so your character wouldn't know a honest to god antedeluvian personally

>they were hoping to starve the players of those games into playing WoD5. It didn't pan out obviously but that was the logic.
I don't get this line of logic. It's not like just because there's no more new books coming the old ones vanish in a puff of smoke?
Sure it's sad that there won't be new books for my favourite lines (except Awakening 2e, the quality was going down with each release, but the old ones are still there and I can use them to run games forever if I want to, especially because the 1e books + the 2e cores (when good) give me complete gamelines.
Hell given how much urban horror/urban fantasy material there is out there for TTRPGs in general I could run a whole Chronicle by adapting i dunno, DG Operations for Vigil or even Forsaken, or I could do something insane and try to adapt Masks to Awakening.
It's also why I don't see much point in wasting energy hating on say V5 beyond aknowledging it's trash and moving on.
