Sci-Fi setting with hyper-advanced alien shapeshifters who take on the form of Elves because they think this will make humans more comfortable dealing with them. Made up an obviously false backstory about being distant cousins of humanity who left Earth for space millennia before the invention of electricity and have finally reunited with them. Aight so our three PCs are related. There are two branches of the family and we have three generations alive in it.

I wonder if Telonius is an art thief and forger? Though if one is collecting secret history doing it through art and oral tradition is probably a good way to do it. Plus even half elves should have some advantage in years. Depending on how the elves of this world are doing I'd imagine they could be a big source of info unless they play along to authority, got conquered, or forced underground by the magic police state.

Barbar with wanderlust is quite classic, and considering the state of the world ironically still the most responsible role for finding nobles who are getting up to silly things. With the campaign focus on intrigue I must imagine there may be another reason to avoid too much time at home. Perhaps the resemblance to certain other player's character lol.

I had an Artificer character myself in a pathfinder game of The Abomination Vaults campaign recently. It was pretty fun. A crit fishing sort of fighter with some neat gadgets, a fancy advanced weapon, where magic and technology could cross paths. He did turn out to be very handy for certain aspects of the campaign. High str and high int, with a bit less wisdom. A bit of himbo energy. Didn't get to use as many of the Artificer traps as I wanted. His name was Arthur.

Oh the old artificer I think was rather more caster-like. The more recent version had reworked it into a fighter with gambling mechanics to try and do more damage, and fun gadgets. The caster version was pretty neat tho.

We shall see. I think basic healing magic would've helped, but that's in the past. For now we're just trying to figure out our standing in the world the DM created. Also the table has good chemistry which I like.

Currently, our clan's region main source of income is tariffs because we're guarding a lake with a river entering and exiting it and is a major trade road and also we are the only ones that produce kelpie/water wyverns as exotic flying and diving mounts.
Right now, we have a gnome from far away city/state to negotiate tariffs with but we're also invite to a noble gathering in the form a hunt on an exotic animal.

I feel like there are very few opportunities to tell interesting stories with elves because they're elves. It usually boils down to "elf is old" or "elf hates dwarves". That goes for Frieren, Dungeon Meshi and even tLotR.
How do you deal with that to set them apart? What makes elves cool besides them being magical and long lived?

I still maintain that at it's height, the 40K Eldar Empire was a lot like Commorragh is now, the webway equivalent of a walkable city. And that even now, the city is not the horror shitshow GW hacks make it out to be. you have to make an interesting character that happens to be an elf and thus have elf traits like magic use, high agility, superhuman senses or whatever. Just like all other character traits these show up when it's relevant and gives the narrative some flavor.

Going in and expecting to write "an elf story" will just end up leading to a bunch of boring tropes and 2D characters
