I'm painting mine as Alpha Legion since it's by far my favorite colour scheme as well. Just getting started on actually painting but I've played a good amount of TTS games where I was also doing Alpha Legion.
Honestly I'm sorta giving up on keeping the Alpha Legion flavor in actual gameplay. The Alpha Legion detachment stinks and there aren't really any units that are meaningfully 'Alpha Legion flavored'. The new Red Corsair Raiders fit the bill in a way, but the kit itself is horrible in terms of fitting in with an Alpha Legion aesthetic. I'll probably try kitbash something to proxy as them sooner or later but even then it's not like they'll take up more than 1/10 of the army.

I remember seeing marine anons making fun of guard players that didn't like the new Steel Legion or saying just go with the DKOK essentially saying the differences are negligible as they're both gas mask factions.
Now here they are arguing about different marine designs when they're all big armoured dudes with backpacks.
There's no defending this kind of hypocrisy.
But I'd love to see your excuses anyways.

Mk10 is just a conglomeration of multiple armor patterns into 1.
Many people just get autistically mad when you accurately point out that mk10 helmet is just a very minor mk4 variant. Funniest part is that it's not even the most outlandish one out there. Pic related is labeled and considered a mk4 helmet too in fluff.

>Pic related is labeled and considered a mk4 helmet too in fluff.
No, that's labeled and considered an Achean pattern helmet. Sure, the Achean pattern armour is based on the MkIV, the same way Gorgon terminator armour is based on Indomitus, but it's still considered its own thing. Like how MkII and III as well as MkVI and VII are considered different patterns despite being pretty much variants of each other.

What does the Alpha Legion even do in 40k as it's less about causing Chaos and more secret spy shit. Only thing I remember is they all look the same and flip flop through being Imperium and Chaos but they had Mike Brooks make a book for then where the MC is instead black with long dreads instead of white and bald.

How about both units charge towards each other and you calculate the distance where they meet by multiplying the initial distance between them by the Move difference?
For instance if unit A & unit B are separated by 10 inches and unit A has a move characteristic of 8, while unit B has a characteristic of 4, they'd meet at a point where A has traveled 6.67 inches and B 3.33.
It's very simple if you use this equation:
distance traveled by A = Mv A / Mv A + Mv B × initial distance.

it's not about being boring, it's about being too painfuly donut steel. It's the same reason people didn't like all the space wolf models with the riding wolfs or wolf chariots and shit. Give salamanders a bunch of salamanders to ride on and it looks dumb. Guard aren't a dino rider army and catachan might have one guy named Bad Ass Bergman who rides a dino but give them all dinos and it becomes retarded and ruins the regiment.

You don’t understand the spirit of warhammer. It’s about mixing cool shit together and having it stick. Donut steal energy is the motif of 40k. Also wolf riders are dumb because it’s marines riding them, and that it’s wolf fenrir riding on them so you’re delving into flanderized hell, which yes it’s bad. However catachan wouldn’t stand out in a negative manner if it’s just isolated between a hero and 2-3 units similar to how krieg got something outlandish like the death riders.

Orks are fun because you just swarm a guy in buckets of attacks. They can kill shit it feels like they have no business killing as well, which is hilarious when it happens.
WE is great for just having absolute blenders of guys. Blood angels go fast and spam chainswords basically. Swolves are weird because they're kinda just reskinned marines more than a melee focused army.

I think with some tweaking they're a very different idea, knight houses are military institutions of great tradtion, typically removed from other imperial nobility on their own worlds. Crusaders are bored 14th sons of hive nobles who are too rich and impetuous to become guard officers, but too hot blooded to ignore the call of WAR.

I'm pretty sure these dudes are a reference to the Shogun book, where Toda Hiromatsu has the nickname old Iron Fist.
The nickname itself might be a reference to an old Japanese military phrase gaishuu Isshoku, an occasionally ironic line meant to indicate you would defeat someone in a single blow, but that's getting way off into the weeds.

Then the Crusaders got moved to the Sororitas and I slowly lost interest. Mostly because homebrew stuff seem to be ignored because my LGS seems more like a tourny zone.

Dark Eldar get a pass because they're faction has been fucked sideways by GW for like 30 years. But I'm tired of hearing Craftworld Eldar, Necron, Tyranids, Tau, and Orks players complain when all of them have been treated very well in the last few years. Even Votann has just gotten a lot of attention despite their Rocky launch. It is basically just DE and GSC among the Xenos that are actually neglected and treating the whole super faction like GW's whipping boys is hardly a fair comparison. There's something beautiful about really young kid creativity that is unchained and unrestrained and then a professional adapts it.
I think they'd come up with some really amazing colour schemes for 40k models.
Certainly for space marines.

I actually think the combination they did for LoV was perfect and exactly what they needed to not just be "dwarves in space I guess" which was exactly what got them booted out of the setting in 2nd ed while Orks and Eldar found their place as more than just "space orcs" and "space elves".
The classic dwarf tropes of being miners, artisans, and engineers with more advanced tech than humans (usually they have guns and cannons and shit like ornithopters in Fantasy settings while humans are still using crossbows) flows naturally into being industrialist free capitalist strip miners with advanced space tech, and in 40k with the whole theme of being a decaying age where older is better, the advanced tech then flows naturally into classic dwarf tropes of ancestor worship, reimagined as AIs that run their society which flows into cyberpunk megacorp territory which flows back into the hyper capitalist territory that goes with being greedy industrious miners. The DAoT connection then lends itself to tying in perfectly with the Stone Men / Iron Men lore which suddenly makes even more sense even from just a NAMING perspective because Stone Men = Dwarves is just fucking, c'mon. And several of those themes flow to the NASApunk space explorer aesthetic that 40k has been missing. And anyone who gives me that newfag secondary shit of "b-but it doesn't FIT 40k" is a retard who doesn't understand 40k. The point of the setting is it makes everything fit in one setting so you can smash your giger alien toys into death metal album cover daemons and space knights and mad max orcs and gundams. It's the very essence of pulp sci-fi where conan the barbarian looking dudes that are mostly naked oiled muscles in fur loinclothes use plasma axes to cleave open lasergun-toting lizardmen on mars. Of fucking COURSE it needs a NASApunk faction.

Squats today would do numbers. As we see objectively, LoV aren't popular. The NASApunk aesthetic is one of those tailored for the " modern audience " that never shows up. Reimagining the ancestor worship into AI is mad cringe. Just have them worship their ancestors in a religious sense. 40k never needed a NASApunk aesthetic, it's completely incongruous with the rest of the setting.

Votann look like marines because both marine armor and weapons and squat weapons from the DAoT.
Even during the Great Crusade Imperium encountered some civilizations, mainly the Auretian Technocracy that used marine style power armor and weapons.

No, they're too good of an idea. They take all the classic dwarf tropes and evolve them into a sci-fi setting in really cool ways.
Dwarves are known for their supreme craftsmanship. In a setting with genetic modification and AI, the break down the barrier between themselves and their craft. They make themselves with as much care as they make anything else, and their creations are as intelligent as they are.
Dwarf society is based on respect for ancestors and the old ways. So in the far future their society is run by a computer that is the agglomeration of all the knowledge of their ancestors.
But this is 40k. Everything needs a one sentence explanation of how badass they are. The Leagues as a concept are just too subtle and thoughtful.

>their " intelligent " creations are just materialist simulacra. Their whole society is structured around material simulacra.
It's a setting where the AI are so powerful they generate psychic signatures in the warp

You have Egyptian stargate terminator ripoffs in one corner, Australian mad max squig ate my baby fantasy orks in another, you've got space elfs that look like power rangers, space elfs that look like power ranger bad guys, Geiger alien ripoffs, literal world War 1 and 2 tanks and infantry, great value off brand gundams, Baskin Robbins 21 flavors of space marines, Leonardo DaVinci ornothopers and mechanical horses.

That doesn’t mean anything to me nor should it mean anything to you. Is it AI or is it not? What does that mean, AI is so powerful? That’s just a simulacra, and basing your society on worshipping material simulacra is lame.

It's comical how lame regular space marines are next to chaos space marines. Is GW even trying?

It's not an opinion. I am saying that if it's left to be as vague " it's so powerful it has a warp signature " without detailing in what sense then it shouldn't mean anything. It's the fantasy equivalent of saying " it's magic ". Just lazy crutch writing that doesn't mean anything.

Welcome to 40k. You're proving >>97879146 right too.

I want the Votann to have Shotgun Bolters that fire electric shots. I want the Votann to have blades coming out of their left arms they shoot at their enemies. I want Votann to have naked dual wielding newborn soldiers made from combined spliced DNA patterns.

You've got until.the end of the month, but there's always next month if you want to be more prepared.
Just keep an eye out for collage anon around the end of the month, and see what the highest voted theme is that people vote on.

The biggest sin of the LoV is that they are boring. They are dreadfully dull in a universe full of creativity. And a prime example of why the current staff at GW are better of repurposing old concept rather than reworking them or iterating on them.
Genestealer cults are kino and fit into 40k seamlessly. Because they are an old concept created by better and more creative men, brought into our time. LoV fail because lesser creatives working at GW were given the task of " modernizing " squats. So we get the most sterile and unimaginative race we've seen so far.

Or simply, Unit A declares a charge on Unit B. Unit B uses the Counter Charge Stratagem to move D6 inches towards Unit A. If it makes it into Engagement Range of Unit A, then it is said to have Stolen the Initiative and Unit A may not charge, while Unit B will count as having charged in the succeeding Fight Phase.
If Unit B does not make it into Engagement Range of Unit A, then after it has finished its Counter Charge Move, Unit A may proceed to roll its Charge Distance. If Unit A succeeds in its roll, and moves into Engagement Range of Unit B, both units are said to have charged in the Fight Phase and both make their attacks at the same time.
Which, with modern 40k units having 50 attacks, means both units will likely be wiped out and removed as casualties.
