i feel like Kirkman will get Peter, he already has him on Invincible but i'm sure Kirkman is aware of Peter's mortality. we haven't really had a truly great Peter Cullen voice match yet but i genuinely want Peter to play this Optimus.

the funny thing is that the Japanese G1 Optimus Prime VA Tessho Genda was actually Primus in Superlink and Galaxy Force soooo there is a precedent already.

What’s an old mold that you think we're likely to get a remake of soon? I personally think they’re going to do either the G2 Flipchanger jets or the G2 Smokescreen/Dreadwing set due to their use in BWII and the amount of redecoes they could do from either

Shame about the fake chest he carries over from the SS but honestly, he looks great. I still feel like the previous MP would have been fine if they'd nixed the matrix chamber (which he never had) so his chest could be the right shape, but this looks good. Just gotta hope the price isn't retarded.

Meh. It's not bad, but it didn't do anything interesting like Optimus. Aside from stealing Kingdom Rodimus legs and fixing the back, it's just 86 Hot Rod, again.
They could have at least included his targetmaster, the fishing rod/pipe weapon from Kiss Players, the rocket/exhaust gun and/or the bow from animated.

glow in the dark plastic is expensive? first i'm hearing of it, it's found in all kinds of super cheapo shit.
that would explain why Kenner didn't bother to use it in their Techno-Zoids "Demon Lizard" which was otherwise identical to the old Heldigunner. Still fluorescent green under blacklight, but not glow in the dark (thankfully I was able to add some of my own)
yeah I don't see getting this. with the import fees and everything it'd be what, 80 bucks? naw. I bet they won't even bother, knowing that nobody would pay.

>>11675243
I feel like they're trying to release Megatron as the first ML destron
but, and hear me out here, instead of having Megatron + a cartoon color redeco.. they're doing two separate molds. One based off the release toy (with the spring fire rubber bullets), and then one based off the prototype design (which was the basis for the show character model since it's proportions weren't hot shit)

HasTak realized they can release anything with "G1" attached to it, and the whales will buy it every time. It's easy money, they don't need to constantly reinvent the wheel. They just have to incrementally tweak small improvements for the same character over and over again. That is enough to make the oldies happy and keep buying their products.

I get why Hot Rod is a difficult one to get right, but I sometimes wonder if they aren't making it more difficult than it needs to be. I think the biggest issue is that it's too fucking G1. I'm not going to say that pic related is the best of all possible Hot Rods, but I think there's room to take the Classics design (or something else for that matter) and iterate on it into something that's more satisfying in both modes than ending on a compromise out of G1 purism. It's Style-Gen anyway, so why not? You could still probably fudge it into something G1-ish enough to fit with MPG-17.
I'm very much glad that the figure isn't overpriced toonshit but it's sad to see the trend of phoning in alt modes continue into MP. That said I don't think it's a bad car, but it's nowhere near as good as MP-28 or MP-09. Those figures were a mess for other reasons though, so I still think MPG-20 is a worthy effort. I'll take it over turning the figure inside out with a bunch of panels and hinges, but that shouldn't be the only other option.

I mean technically, since you can sell ACTUAL guns, you could do it. you'd just have to say it's for adults only, and that's gonna be weird for a bunch of reasons. It can't have 'toy' anywhere on the packaging for sure.

>glow in the dark plastic is expensive? first i'm hearing of it, it's found in all kinds of super cheapo shit.
Let me clarify: glow in the dark plastic that DOESN'T use depleted Uranium to achieve the glowing effect is expensive. The reason there were so many cheap toys that have a glow feature back in the day was because the military was literally selling their radioactive waste to toy companies, who used the stuff in everything from children's toys to the hands on watches and wall clocks. It wasn't until the 90's, when glow-in-the-dark gimmicks made a resurgence, that the swapped over to phosphors like strontium aluminate, which, while safer, need to be synthesized in a lab to produce their glow effect. Toy companies literally have to pay a laboratory to make the stuff for them, hence why it's a bit more expensive on their end and why you don't see it so often in modern toys these days.

It should, but I won't try. I shaved off as many areas that had obvious friction but I'm going to leave it in robot mode when I do mine.
>>
>>11675374
well glow in the dark shit sure seemed cheap as free in the 90s. and I was told it had only recently gotten way more expensive, so it must have been something else. They claimed it was material shortages, but.. you literally cannot run out of phosphors, so
>>
>>11675374
I had a Monster in my Pocket comic book as a kid and one plot was the Not Godzilla monster would eat glow in the dark material and grow in size since it was radioactive, but I just figured that was the comic embellishing.

Man when will Masterpiece ever get to covering Armada/Micron Legends? It's been more than 20 years now and pretty much all of the animation designs is almost 1:1 with the original toys so it would be a slam dunk to get modern animation accurate and articulated versions of the old toys. And no the Generations updated toys isn't entirely accurate to the anime designs or even the old toys.
>>
>>
>>11675489
It's crazy that there's no demand when Armada Optimus himself was ranked 2nd in that Masterpiece poll all those years ago. Either way that's mostly why I want a MP Armada/Micron Legends line because at least there the Mini-Con pegs and the spring-loaded gimmicks will be retained though I think the spring-loaded Mini-Con gimmicks will be handled like God Ginrai, where plugging a Mini-Con into an active peg will release a clasp allowing whatever part was held down (such as Hot Shot's Axelzooka) to be released but you'd have to manually move the part from then on. I think it would be a nice compromise between keeping the spring loaded unlock feature of the Mini-Cons and having whatever weapon was unlocked by said Mini-Cons not rely on springs and be more durable as a result.
>>
>>
>>
>>11675497
The problem is if they make an MP Armada Optimus fans will expect them to make an MP Armada Megatron. If it's just a one-off then what's the point? Third parties will then fill in and take the scale of the official figure and make the rest of the armada cast.
Another big issue is.. uh.. Armada designs are.. simple-ish. They have easy transformations and the designs on the toys are very much similar to the designs on the show. Unlike G1 MPs which were designed to get 100% screen accurate robot and 100% screen/real life accurate alt modes (depending on the era), which was a tough challenge on some designs, and unlike movie MPs which are just designed to flex engineering, Armada.. really doesn't have a whole lot of engineering to deal with. Takara would mostly be focusing on die-cast, scaling, and updating the mini-con gimmicks to not impede articulation. Certainly a tough undertaking but it's not exactly the same as engineering a bunch of fucking panels like MP is known for.
If Takara were to update Armada in an MP style, I hope they would call it something else. ARMADA STYLE FLEET or something. I just don't think the 'MP' branding would truly fit on Armada updates.
>>
>>
>>
>>11675505
The designs are simple but that didn't stop God Ginrai from getting a MP toy and he's really simple by MP standards. I don't think it's a requirement that you need to have the toy be panels upon panels to be considered a MP toy. Yes, the vast majority is basically that but there's been lots of changes with the MP toyline as of late with the obvious fact that it's MPG now. TakaraTomy probably wants to milk even more and has made the restrictions more laxed. And besides, there's still a good number of Armada designs that can be complicated, chief among which is Optimus's trailer because the Generations toy dumbed down the base mode to avoid the headache of having the trailer be a bunch of panels folded like one of those blueprint patterns and somehow retain knee and hip articulation when all is said and done which is fair. I also want a good animation accurate Hot Shot toy that also stays true to the original toy but has proper articulation. So far both attempts in Generations has been duds.

I really like the figure a lot... except that the lion head is awful. Someone at Hasbro (I believe it was Mark?) said they were going for a realistic lion sculpt, but they seem to have failed at that 'cause it just looks horribly derpy.
In case you don't already know, Takara recently released a new version of the toy with extra paint apps and an entirely new sculpted lion head and blades for the arms. The new sculpt is pretty cartoony since it's based on the lion mode design from the BW2 anime, but it's a welcome alternative to Hasbro's lion sculpt, even if it goes a bit far in the opposite direction. Plus, it has new parts to let his mane spin in a recreation of his "Lion Typhoon" attack from the show. It got severely delayed because they had to fix a factory misassembly error that would have impeded the transformation, but it finally came out and looks great!
All that said, if you don't mind Hasbro's weird lion face, then the Legacy release is still a fun figure other than that, so I hope you're enjoying it!

Actually, I meant to do a little write-up on the Anniversary Lio Convoy - he got here on Sunday, but I've been busy. Given that people are just getting theirs now and the new Green one (which uses this version of the mold) goes up for preorder later today, it seems like now's the best time for it.
Lio's got a couple of changes made to him from the original Legacy release - not just the new face, but new Lion Claws, a new mane with a rotating gimmick, and lots of shiny new paint; his lion tail is sculpted in a gold plastic to match his new mane color.
>>
>>
File: Anime Lio Convoy2.jpg (181 KB)

>>11675659
Side-by-side beast mode comparison with the Legacy version. Some people may find the anime face on the new one to be a bit goofy, but I find it far preferable to the "realistic" one. Besides, it's cartoon accurate - kinda funny to have people go on and on about how they need their toys to look accurate to the G1 cartoon, but when it comes to Lio looking the way he's supposed to, people are put off.
Regardless, the new Lio's mane no longer has the two flip-up slots for his two "Lio Missiles", though you can clip them into the two rectangular slots on the top of his head. His mane bits on the side no longer have the clearance to swing forward the way his Legacy toy's did, which is why he no longer has his two small pistols - there's nowhere to put them, even if you "borrowed" them from his Legacy toy.

Robot mode. My camera's really on its way out, so it's a bit hard to see all the cool new metallic paint he has. His lower abs are fully painted, as are his hands, his head, his Matrix Chamber, and a bunch of other places. His "Lion Claws" are nearly twice as long as the Legacy version's dinky little ones, and now actually point in the correct direction (curved back away from his lion toes). His Lio Missiles are painted now, too - but since these are the missiles and not the pistols, he can't hold them in his hands; they can still plug into the backs of his wrists, or slot into his back like on the Legacy toy.
>>

>>11675663
Of course, the biggest change here is that he now has his fully functional "Lion Typhoon" gimmick - the fur bits around his lion head are all attached to a wheel and can spin freely in either direction when extended. This gimmick is why the flip-up Lio Missile gimmick was abandoned, as the flip-up parts would get in the way of the mane's ability to spin.
Even if he no longer has his pistols or the Lio Missile Attack gimmick, I much prefer this version of him over the Legacy one - he looks the way he's supposed to, I really like his longer claws, the paint is great, and it's fun spiiiiinnnniiiinnggg his shoulder around. Hopefully I'll be able to get the new Green one when he goes up in 9 or so hours.

Semi-related to the current conversation, but I also tracked down my very own Newage S01A "Remus" Version after that anon showed off his two threads ago. I love him - I mentioned before, but I always wanted a proper "gun Megatron", and this guy's pretty great all around - he's got a nice ab crunch, comes with all the faceplates and additional weapons of the MP while being CHUG-sized, and I really like this specific colorscheme (which I don't think has been used as an official character by Hasbro yet). He was a bit pricey, but I feel he was the better choice than SS86 Megatron; my only issue with him is that he didn't come with any instructions, though I was able to find videos on YouTube that worked well enough.
Rather than using him as a 'replacement' Megatron in my collection, I think I'll just repurpose him as his own character - an Autobot, given he seems to have a more 'heroic' looking face and no faction symbols anywhere on him (obviously).

Got 86 Soundwave. It does a lot of weird things and I'm not sure I love it. The tabs that connect the leg to the torso are no longer thick rectangular tabs, they're now thinner tabs with a clip at the end, getting them in and out is very annoying and I don't feel like they'll last long. The entire head transformation section is just bizarre, it uses a lot of space, but a good half of it isn't even necessary, you'd assume this is for storage (for the extra stuff included with the cassettes) but nothing is mentioned in the instructions. The tabs connecting the head to the body are both small and annoying to click in place.
The knee extensions are purely friction based, and while mine are currently tight, I've seen videos of other copies having them loose out of the box. On the weapons, I already knew the gun had the wrong orientation, but they also took out the pivot from the missile launcher. I can't recommend it at the current priced and I still feel ripped off after paying 50 (tax included) for mine.

It's more than just the eyes. Yes, painting in the eyes help, but it still goes a long way from fixing the problems with that sculpt. The biggest issue is that the lion face (especially the bridge of the nose) slopes way too far downward and not enough outward, making its proportions look almost like a cross between a lion and a horse, making the whole head seem droopy and weird. It's like the eyes are facing forward, but the snout is more at a downward angle. Painting the eyes makes the lion face seem more alive, but still fundamentally bad-looking in terms of overall shape.
>>
>>11675776
>>11675746
What's weird is that Takara's new remold has exposed teeth too, but don't look nearly as bad. Maybe it's because it's more anime-stylized, or maybe it's 'cause they're sculpted as actual triangles rather than rounded stubs?
>>
>>11676107
>but by modern standards (and for that matter, 90s standards) it's amazing
I don't know what you're talking about. I literally have the BW2 Lio Convoy figure on my shelf in the room I'm in right now, and his lion head, while imperfect, looks a thousand times better than the Legacy lion head.
>>
>>
>>11675659
face just needs to be a lot bigger and this would be pretty perfect.
>>11675662
jeez that seems like an oversight. and because of the face and mane, you can't really match the show look in either mode. I guess making them detachable pieces would have been too hard, huh?
>>
>>
>>11675725
well in the anime, the eyes go blank in robot mode. I think they were prioritizing that.
>>11675746
it's tricky, we can't very well have lifting lips, but everyone wants to see the teeth

they definitely should not have been blunted, but.. yknow, retards.
>>11676121
yeah they basically took a perfect lion head and then hit 'skew' for some reason. I guess they didn't want the snout sticking out that far in robot mode, but it was a mistake for sure. makes me wish I could add plasticizer to the whole thing, smush it back up into position, then resolidify.

sometimes I wish Transformers had kept with having kinda unusual proportions, instead of trying to fit everyone into the Gundam mold. I mean that look is iconic, for sure, and probably helped a lot, but I wouldn't mind at all if we had guys with, yknow, really thin, flat legs, as long asthe rest of them was similarly stylized. Prime did a pretty good job with that, actually.
>>
>>11676515
Say what you will about the aligned continuity but it really excelled at weird body shapes. Prime had a lot of interesting humanoid proportions and RID 2015 had a lot of weird and wacky decepticon designs. I would argue that the war/fall of cybertron games also have interesting body types.

There's a third party Ramjet if you're into those. If you can find these still try Nightstalker, Skywasp and Toxitron. All were cancelled Universe toys and would have been fighting for Unicron if they were released. Even though Toxitron has weird new lore. I couldn't afford the real one or 3rd party so I got the fatass prototype super7 one.

/tfg/ has a hateboner for everything, depending on which retards are present at any given moment. Personally, I like the concept behind MPG-17, but I don't need another Prime. Whether or not I purchase him depends on whether he ends up being a pre-tool for an Ultra Magnus with an inner bot, and also probably whether or not it gets a Delta Magnus repaint, since I've long decided that blue/black Optimus > everything.
Although it might be too little, too late. The ML version could be enough to quench my thirst for a proper, full Delta Magnus, but I won't really know until I can make comparisons.

"I respect the first entries of any robot franchises, like Mazinger and Getter Robo. Obviously, the first ones are much more simplified in design due to the different design philosophies at the time and likely limitations in animating them. Their later reimagined robot designs are better and more to my taste.
The issue with Transformers is that the vocal majority only treasures G1 and never moves past that. It's sad, really.

Could Magna Convoy and Delta Magnus' lore be combined in a way that makes them the same character? Does it even really matter? Neither one is in very much media, apart from comics drawn specifically to sell them as toy recolors. And
I do remember this silly little one-off of Magna wearing Delta's armor in one of the legends comics, tho. As far as I'm concerned, Magna Convoy is just Delta Magnus' inner bot, seeing as how he doesn't seem to officially have one, akin to Ultra Magnus.
>>
>>
>>11676967
It's less an "underage" thing, and moreso a (retarded) mindset brought on by the fact that new products and content are seemingly infinite in current year. We've finally hit that point where there is so much instantly-accessible garbage to consume that there's a good swathe of people who cannot comprehend authentically liking something that isn't shiny and new and being jingled in their faces, because they've never had to. All they know is that dopamine hit that they get from seeing something they've never seen before, and they're holding onto it for dear life.
>>
>>11676966
>Could Magna Convoy and Delta Magnus' lore be combined in a way that makes them the same character?
Yes, Delta Magnus is just several guys in armor like IDW Ultra Magnus. But ulitmately
>Does it even really matter?
Not really, no. Magna Convoy is a precursor world character, that's like asking if Purple Convoy and SG Optimus Prime can coexist or be the same character.
The blue prime in your pic isn't even Magna Convoy, it's Ginrai.
>>
>>11676970
Lots of coping. Those are not the latest products. I think many people can agree that Shin Getter Robo has a better design than the original. Personally, I prefer the Devolution design more for its different take on proportions.
>>
>>11676967
It's not a problem to like old things, it's about design aesthetics. The original has some designs that most people don't like, such as the big belly. So, obviously, the original's design would be ranked lower compared to other versions.
>>
>>
>>
>>

But that's mostly the case, fans love the character and want to own the toy, even as they grow older.
90% of the discussion here is about wanting a toy from cartoon they watched when they were young.
The truth is, you're upset because you assume that anyone with a different preference than yours is trying to provoke you and mock what you love in your childhood.

same thing with beastformers though really. Ironhide's trunk-halves look ridiculous.. they'd obviously be flopping around, since they're the HOLLOW piece that was once an articulating trunk in beast mode. They should always try to use parts like that as ponytails or whatever.

Do you think that Armada/Micron Legend Megatron were originally meant to be Megazarak/Scorponok and Energon Ironhide/Superlink Roadbuster were meant to be Crosshairs but they opted for using the more popular names instead?
Armada/Micron Legend Megatron clearly borrowed a lot of design cues from Megazarak/Scorponok with the horns, color schemes and such.
>>
>>11678804
No. Megatron's are a reference to Megatron dragons. For the later guys in a series, they usually came up with the kind of vehicle first, so intentional homages are rare compared to just being a guy that matches another guy in colors or altmode more.

The garden part was a joke. You just need to store soft-pvc in some open, ventilated container for some months, let their plasticizer evaporate. Otherwise the plasticizer fumes condense into an oily film on your toy and that's what fucks them up.
>>11678653
It's from a Tomica Town playset. They had a line of modular buildings about a decade ago and they all use 5mm joints so compatible with TF parts.

Does this actually work? I imagined they'd be leaking plasticizer constantly, since, you know, it doesn't stop being PVC. I love blast effects but the idea of them shredding the figures scares the fuck out of me.
>soft pvc
Got me thinking. ARE there hard plastic blast effects? Them being bendy has no appeal to me at all.

There's only so much plasticizer they can add, it's bound to stop offgassing at some time.
>hard plastic blast effects?
Bandai makes some but only a small number can be attached to TFs directly. And even if you get them on, these don't grip onto the shallow blast effect peg as well as bendy softpvc ones.

People forget, but there used to be a time in this franchise where G1 homages were the outlier outside of things like convention exclusives. It really wasn’t until the success of the 2007 movie, Classics, and the early 2010s 80s nostalgia wave that constant G1 references became the norm. I’d even argue that the 2007 movie's characterizations are more based on the UT than G1 since that was the most recent thing when they started development.

meanwhile if you look at Armada Megatron, his head (sans antlers) is actually based on the actual G1 Megatron's toy head and his shiv dagger in his hand is based off of the G1 Megatron's toy sword. Armada Starscream's head design is based off the G1 toy Starscream head and that's not even getting starting on Armada Optimus Prime's trailer being based on Star Convoy.

I mean is there any footage of this happening? I take it he's from a manga. what did they look like afterward?
>>11679561
desu turning into a ball and then careening at high speed through a fight feels kinda badass. The tricky part would be asking yourself why he can spin like that, what is his propulsion. so ideally he'd have a partner who turns into, say, a camera, who would take the ball into his lens and then fire it out at guys.
and once he ran out of momentum, he'd unfurl and start blasting like normal.
>>
>>
>>11679671
I think you misunderstood
The comment is about where the "love love lancer" came from
There's no source, only the vague claim that escargon himself is from the comic bom bom contest example (which there's no reason to doubt)
There's just no evidence of his weapon ever being described anywhere.
Find the scan where it cites what his weapon does and by all means, link it to the wiki so they can put a source in that's been missing for 20 years

i wonder, when you create something like this, and you're using the English words you know for effect, do you really never write it down in romaji to make it clear how it should be spelled? Seems to me like you'd want to do that, to avoid any ambiguity.. So you don't think he's supposed to be Star Appa (yip yip!)
>>
>>11679738
To be fair, we can tell it’s not meant to be Appa because the ー tells us that the last syllable is meant to be stressed, which in kana is used to represent the ar or er sound. Also the fact that he’s a boxing kangaroo and uses the same kana as アッパーカット (uppercut) tells us that it’s probably Star Upper

>>
>>11679776
I've had my eye on this as well. As a matter of fact I've had the tab open for a week now. It appears to be made of 3D printed resin, and while there IS flexible SLA resin available I would guess that these effects don't flex. The method of removing the LED diode relies on clips that hold the two halves together which wouldn't really work with the usual rubberized blast effect material.
It is a genuine pain to find blast effects because no 3P makes them. I should have bought that corpse Ironhide and Prowl two pack when it was on clearance for nine dollars at Target, if only for the purple effects.
>>
>>
>>11679813
Here's your easily-accessible blast effect pack, bro.

>>11679760
Well, the original toy had the head as a moveable crotch plate, hence why it was able to sit so low - you slid it all the way down between his scorpion arms/robot legs until it popped up on his butt. The new one has it attached to his lower back, where it just dangles over his ass and has to be pulled all the way back so as not to impede his waist rotation. Because it's now attached to his back instead of being a part of his crotch, it really can't sit any lower than that.

>>

>>
>>11679938
To be fair, it's basically the Earthrise Seeker transformation scheme, but simplified and with the pelvis needing to be rotated. It just looks a lot worse on Slipstream/Windblade because their chests and arms aren't bulky blocks, and the hands don't fold into the wrists.

Final chance to speculate on liege maximo alt mode.
We know he's g2
We know they kept his cables
We DON'T know if his canon will be his hand like shockwave or a weapon .
I'm betting he turns into a spaceship/rocket. I doubt we'd get TWO tank leaders in a single wave (armada megs repack)
Another option could be some sort of insect, make him the progenitor if the inspections, tying the idea of him creating "copies" from budding to the insecticon duplication
Another possibility is he'll be some strange machine that doesn't really exist, like amalgomous, to a lesser degree quintus (kind of a jet?) and micronus.
I could also get behind him having a space sailboat look, like the Roman legion

Why do Beast Wars get so little respect for their 30th anniversary? They're just milking Hot Rod this year. I get that it is the 40th anniversary of the '86 movie, but the characters from the '86 movie have already been done.

Also, it’s always weird seeing TADC referenced here, though one of the TADC threads on /co/ did turn into a TF thread for a bit, so there’s apparently a lot of overlap

I know this is a bit of a non-issue, but it’s always bothered me that Nightprowler, whose head matches Cheetor's colors, comes with the normal head, but Shadow Panther, whose head doesn’t, comes with the mutant mask. Feels like a missed opportunity for some head swapping gimmickry

He now browses a frostbitten forest, in the seat h for food. A curious and intrepid creature, indeed!

If it's only on one piece, it's not yellowing, just a factory error.
Same thing happened with SS86 Magnus where everyone panicked when someone posted a copy with mismatched whites on the cab.

I don't know why but this dude is my favorite mainline toy in years. He just feels good and fun and has a neat design. I wish he had more of a potbelly like the cartoon though. Fatbots are cool. I display him next to Jada toys Bubbleman

We won't know until later. Currently, this seems like Motormaster, some parts arrived yellowing from the factory, but the rest of the parts didn't develop those issues.
That being said, the Magnus bit is not the same issue, it's like Siege Jetfire with slightly yellowed nylon parts

Was gonna cancel my 40th Lio in favor of the green Lio, but forgot to. Came in the mail today and glad I didn't cancel it. As soon as I saw how it was boxed it won me over. Looking forward to also getting the green one.

Mine hasn't broken, but the damn thing has refused to stay together right from day 1. Fortunately, the FansHobby Vorpal Saber just released (and is the one Nemesis SHOULD have come with from the start), so I ordered that to replace it.

Got Airachnid in today. I absolutely love this thing. Arms could have more range, and I had to sand the tab that goes into the head to avoid it snapping, but otherwise a really amazing toy. There's so much you can do with the spider legs.

New thread ordained by Hitler apparently. Ironic given the size of the nose on the OP pic.
