I got mine from Aliexpress.
>>11681486
Mine was $16, the quality feels pretty solid. Like, almost TOO solid. More than any official figure I've ever gotten. You can rattle and shake the guy and his limbs barely flop around. I haven't transformed him, and I'm a bit nervous to, hopefully his parts aren't too stiff....

I had mine displayed in his iconic "The Jump" pose with the help of a flight stand. Not my picture but pretty much the same exact positioning.

A single TF? Maybe like Megatronus or Grimlock (it’ll probably be closer to $60)
You could get two deluxes though, like the Lambros or a couple minibots like Gears or Seaspray or Cosmos or Brawn or Windcharger

that middleman is called the western economy. yknow, that thing china is actively destroying, while constantly violating everyone's borders and sending hourly cyberattacks.
Not saying I never buy chinese shit, usually upgrade kits... but I at least buy from a western seller.

I got Big Convoy today and I'm liking him quite a bit, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make him hold his cannon over the shoulder (there is a little peg that slots onto his shoulder to keep it steady) without the thing bumping into his elephant head kibble. I've tried positioning the head halves in every direction and the trunk piece always bumps into something... if there's a correct way to do this could someone share a pic?

Yep, but you'll have to endure 2 problems:
-They'll bundle them with either a toy you already own or some random repaint.
-Articulation has been complete ass for most of them, even when it is possible to add it without any qc issues.
So i don't expect the combiners to be good.

Well, we already got Grand Slam and Raindance, but not as cassettes. Can't guarantee that Beastbox and Squawktalk won't lose their cassette forms in the process, too, if they're made to combine.

>>
>>11681874
it's not that, it just feels like all the good media was frontloaded, so the 90s lasted like 60 years and the last couple decades were two weeks. I cannot think of 2007 as 'old transformers' yet they're older than G1 was when I got into beast wars

They are a team but Hasbro fucking changed their mind on what the fuck they were going to do to make them
>>Were supposed to be a new modular battle armored gimmick with the deluxe sized inner robot having removable battle armor that when put on the robot, recreated their Pretender shell and that the armor bits could be mixed and matched to create new monster forms.
>>Got cancelled due to budget issues because the asshats decided to make Rock Lords instead no one wanted
>>So Skullgrin got a deluxe figure with an ugly minotaur skull head and Bombusts and Iguanis got made into Legends scale because, again, some asshole wanted Rock Lords

just got Sky Byte from Amazon (confused about a gift card they'd sent me that was actually a different kind of credit, but whatever)

still, overall he's pretty great. I would not mind a little extra something to fill out the tail, but I get how the joint works now and why that'd be hard. Transformation is a LITTLE fiddly to get things to fit together, but not that bad. and the SIZE here is impressive. This is like, what a voyager used to be sized, right?
>>
No pics for Kranix yet? That’s the only one I’m really interested in getting. Maybe SS86 Cyclonus because I missed out on the first two releases and hopefully this irons out all the minor issues even though I hear it’s an excellent mold.

sadly that is much more cohesive than most of the blox fuzors in Zoids. The vast majority were like "okay we're gonna fuse this little lion with a blade for a tail and little guns on his shoulders with this wolf, so.. let's.. fold him up into.. A BRICK WITH A TAIL BLADE STICKING OUT (and very tiny guns) and plug him on top. WOO!"

Liege Maximo, Unicron Soldier(??), and Armada Jetfire. Love all the G1 comics (sans Skybound) and the UT.
G1 minibots will also always be awesome to see.
He won't have any, but there's that 1% chance Vector has any kind of retooling and I'm just curious to see what his release will be.

the legs need to be compressed to look right for sure, and you need the upgrade kit that lengthens the tail, and the neck having an obvious shoulder at its base was SO preventable.
but beyond that, I like him.
>>
>>11682969
Completely valid criticisms and I got his upgrade kit to help with both of those issues. I'm normally someone who prioritizes source material accuracy, but his beast mode just looks naked without the mask. And nothing wrong with displaying in alt mode, though I usually only do that with beast bots.

Specifically, it seems to be the "Ark Unicron" version, which was used for Unicron's acolytes in the Generations Selects comics. So it's an army builder, and not intended to be Unicron himself.

There is something to babby collectors that can have perfectly fine collections of respectable size, but lack in the real weird guys of years past
I mean stuff like Energon Landmine, Cybertron Crumplezone, ROTF scouts, etc

I think it's scheduled to be liege's wave mate, so that's unlikely.
Another possibility is it's a galvatron retool, in unicron colors, different weapons, and different head that looks more like unicron.
But if it IS a liege maximo retool, it almost certainly is the rock version from TFPrime, considering the shape.
Another possibility is them doing a g1 toy style unicron at leader scale, but I'd imagine we'd have heard something about that by now

I'm honestly really dissapointed in Sureshot. He feels so cheap compared to Quickstrike. You can't even justify it via hia transformation since Quickstrike qlao does a lot with his. I could only recommend it if you got it for 15 or less.
>>
>>11683397
His tenure included the absolute peak of the brand (2006-2011 or so), so there's that. I'm not sure how much of the decline since he left should be attributed to his successors, though. The entire toy industry has changed since 2013; it changed a lot between 2002 and 2012. You can see this even in the Japanese toy market.
>>
>>11683496
I also feel like a lot of that success can be tied to the live action movies breathing new life into the franchise and convincing executives to put tons of money into it. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the decline started happening right around the time of the trilogy ending and AOE coming out
>>
>>11683309

Every line has plenty of stinkers. But the highs were higher and the brand in general was more varied and interesting. WFC, Legacy, and AotP has been one huge extended snooze fest. TR has its moments but a lot of it didn't work. CW and PotP was turbo-ass aside from the Legends class stuff. Studio Series is often outright worse than its movie line counterparts.

they're bad because they clearly had better articulation and transformation in mind, but gutted it to make things simpler for babies. Their actual DESIGNS are amazing, and the color schemes are fun. It was silly not to release them in BOTH colorful and movie-accurate versions. Double dip! But also, they have NEVER done a good grimlock. there's exactly one good movie grimlock and it's like, one of six chinese ones. and even IT is not THAT great, it's just the best.

AH, okay, thank you. I couldn't tell because A) the other, intact joint does not look like it has a thick pin in it, not remotely that thick.. and B) the broken edges of the joint are all white (as broken plastic tends to be) so it all blends together into what looked to me as if someone had simply applied silver paint to an intact joint
>>
>>11683638
>how is that possible?
The last Transformer I remember getting was G2 Dreadwing/Smokescreen for Christmas in '94, so I guess I was aware that Transformers was still a thing until then. After that I think I just moved on to other things like Power Rangers and superhero cartoons. I genuinely don't recall ever seeing Beast Wars on tv or noticing any toys in stores though. By the late 90's I was all about WWF/WCW and wasn't really playing with toys anymore.
Then in 2006 I'd heard about at Transformers movie being made but didn't really care until one day I was food shopping in Asda and saw a Classics Bumblebee dumped in the bread isle and decided to buy it. It was my only Transformer for 2 years. I watched the movie when it eventually aired on tv and then in 2008, without even having seen the show yet, decided I wanted to buy the Animated Dinobots. Went into town and only found Swoop, so I picked up Sentinel Prime as well and that was it, I was collecting Transformers.

Even though the lines were objectively inferior to the Takara releases, there's something about Combiner Wars/Titans Retrurn toys that I love. There was so much cool shit put out during those lines, even when they were reusing a shitload of engineering and molds.
>>
>>11683743
>>11683647
He fits that scale
>>
>>
>>11683745
Combiner Wars was peak, Titans Return was somehow even more peak. Power of the Primes got fucked by a budget cut that year and a drop in QC, but the designs were still good for the most part even if the figures couldn't live up to them.
>>
>>
>>
>>11683758
Simple intuitive transformations, everyone can combine with everyone as either and arm or a leg, play pattern is solid. The only real mistake was two Autobot car waves using 3 of the 4 molds each time and other mold reuses that should have been new molds, but the toys themselves were mostly great.
>>
>>
Combiner Wars sucked.
I am kind of fond of the leader Megatron mold, though, even if it had no business being as big as it is. I think both it and the Armada retool have pretty cool face sculpts and the tank mode is respectable and the now-standard H-tank shrug. I'd go so far as to say I prefer the CW Armada Megatron to Legacy's, though that's not saying much.

>>
>>11683765
It is kind of funny that our push toward more joints and freedom of movement has led to transformations all kinda being a pain, hard to line up just right, requiring a lot more pegging and tabbing so you know it's in the correct orientation...
>>
>>11683780
I like the head sculpt more and the fact it actually transforms into something. Armada Megatron's Patented Hasbro Shrug is tolerable on the original gimmick-laden toy, but on Legacy's it's just shit (better, but still shit). Obviously it's much closer to Armada Megatron, but I don't care about Armada per se.
>>
>>11683753
Combiner Wars was a decent toyline for its gimmick but it's probably the worst generations toyline of all time outside of the combining gimmick. I think combiner wars also suffers the worst from age since the main gimmick of swapping figures around is going to get harder and harder as CW figures get sold less and less.
>>
>>
>>
>>11683792
Hes cool, but suffers from the shoulders just being shitty in general, and it has no ankle tilts. Big long legs full of joints, and hes stuck doing that shitty thing where the fit dont sit flat unless they are totally straight.
>>
>>11683743
Adjusted for inflation, the og pmop would cost 75 bucks.
Given armada Optimus, it seems pretty reasonable as a commander, but how would they release the apex armor/god bomber? There's no point selling him on his own, and adding him alone wouldn't warrant a titan price.
Make the cab Optimus into a simplistic deluxe and drop accessories to fit him into commander seems like such a waste
Unless there's someone else the extra trailer could be sold with as a commander class like the constructicons.

I'll argure with you on that. His transformation is extremely Brave, big, chunky sections that don't turn into a real vehicle, but the result does not look like a robot. It's a very fun and dynamic transformation that achieves a cool as hell silhouette with extreme simplicity.
I wish the original had full leg articulation, because then it would be a contender for one of the best Megatron toys ever.

would be awesome if they had a model kit line like the SMP or Moderoid. if they require removing pins, that ... well, it changes the entire game. because now ANYTHING is possible, which means the kit should have also replaced the other bad parts

I like some of the cardbot designs, and specifically talking about my favorite here storm shadow; 30$ (on bbts) for the equivalent of a deluxe that doesn't have thigh or waist rotation and no ankle tilt just isn't worth the clicky ratchets and cool card gimmick. This Rewind/Eject mold is gangmolded with Blaster's chest window and nylon joint parts, though.
Siege cassettes had to wait until Legacy for them to be split up from their mold mates: ravage+laserbeak, frumble+ratbat. And they were at the core-class or micromaster 2pack price point. Plus Ratbat was only split up after there was a new Frumble mold.
It's likely you'll need to buy it with another Blaster redeco or wait for a brand new Rewind/Eject mold.

This is likely not what you had in your head because AI can't imagine things, it borrows from existing designs, and that's if it's aware of those designs. Unless you're for sure getting out exactly what you have in your head, you should have drawn it.

i-i think we can all agree that we have different tastes on shit like that. I'm okay with the megazordy shit when it's a piloted robot, but I'm a lot less okay with it for intelligent beings, because at a certain point, what IS this character? What and who is he if he swaps a bunch of his usual parts with someone else?
What's more, unless it's a VERY magicky kinda sentai show, I don't want the parts just ... flyin around like crazy. I'm lookin at you, Zoids 'Fuzors.' Hasbro fucked with you, didn't they. Previous anime had an elaborate armoring-up sequence that they could recycle the footage from different angles and save money, where a bunch of little robot arms removed the old armor and placed on the new pieces. That was rad. a bird zoid exploding into pieces that all land on the liger is not.

It's designed to look like one of those traditional Japanese folding screens (Byōbu) and shows off Starscream's and Optimus' alt modes (rendered realistically instead of mechanically). The outer sleeve (not pictured) is neat, too, but not on the same level as this - the box is definitely a keeper.

On to the actual figures. Oxtimus and Tenguscream are overall an improvement over their previous Hearts of Steel releases - the plastic feels to be of higher quality, the colors look brighter (especially on Prime), and both actually have moving wrists (on balljoints) -and, in Starscream's case, a rotating waist - this time around!
Oxtimus is modeled on a traditional samurai, with a neat looking helmet, some really big shoulder pauldrons, and plated armor on his chest instead of a windshield. He's armed with a Naginata - a polearm similar to a halberd or bardiche. The Naginata's blade detaches so you can thread the handle through his hands (or just use the handle as a staff), and the blade itself has a hole on either side that allows it to be mounted to either shoulder pauldron or to a pair of pegs on Optimus' back when not in use.
Starscream's robot mode is modeled on a Tengu, specifically of the Karasu (birdman) variety. His 'helmet' is designed to look like a screaming crow's face, and he swaps his usual jet wings for some articulated bird ones. His chestplate takes inspiration from Japanese Mountain Priests' attire, complete with his chest intakes resembling the string of pompoms on either side, and his feet are modeled to look like he's wearing sandals, which are fairly large (presumably so you can put him in the various standing-on-one-leg poses you usually see Tengu depicted in). For weapons, he's armed with a pair of flintlock rifles (which I'm in love with) that he can hold in either hand or mount to his shoulders in place of his Null Rays, as well as a war fan designed to look like a Hauchiwa Fan, used in folklore by Tengu to create powerful gusts of wind and storms. Starscream's transformation scheme also gives him an ab crunch, which is neat, and his fan has a peg hole so you can plug a pose stand into it when he's in Beast mode this time around.

Alt modes. Prime's is definitely the more impressive of the two - his upper torso becomes an ox, while his arms dislocate and merge with his legs to make his cart. Parts of the cart are a bit finnicky to keep tabbed into place, and there's no back door to it (his fists just fold up) meaning it's not too impressive to look at from behind, but it's cool all the same. There's a tiny bit of space in the cart itself, so if you really wanted to, you could squeeze some small items into it by folding the fists down first, but for the most part it's just for the looks. You can store Prime's Naginata on the roof of the cart, using the same tabs that were on his shoulders in robot mode.
Sadly, the ox has no articulation whatsoever, beyond being able to rotate the front legs back (which is required for his transformation scheme). His wheels move, though.
Starscream's alt mode by comparison is a bit disappointing. While he's not using any version of the Earthrise Airazor mold (thankfully) and has an entirely different transformation, he still looks a bit off; his robot thighs are very boxy and don't really blend with the rest of his form, and his pelvis rotates down to bring them under his body, which ends up making him look too tall and does nothing to hide the fact that he's just squatting. Since his hips swing down, they leave a huge gap in his rear, though you can push his tail down to somewhat hide it. He also suffers from the same issue as the Airazor/Filch mold in that the back of his robot head is left completely exposed on his underside despite him using a while different transformation scheme; at least his bird head is decently sized compared to Airazor and Filch, but his shape overall is a step down from them.
>>
>>11685764
Here's the sleeve for the box, since I omitted it previously.
Overall, I like them both - their robot modes are awesome, though Prime's alt mode definitely wins out over Starscream's. The engineering and colors are an improvement over the previous Timelines releases, and I feel they have a lot more character to them than the HoS ones did. I'm hoping they do a Bumblebee/Megatron "sequel" pack like they did with the last release so we can get a dragon Megatron with an Oni-inspired robot mode, though I have no idea what Bee would turn into.

Dude, they pulled off a more convincing one 27 years ago. Between the microscopic head (that's completely the wrong shape for a squirrel or any kind of rodent in general), fat tail, and horrible-looking arms, there's no way anyone would call that thing a flying squirrel if the filename hadn't called it such.

Nah >>11683417 is right, real slop was making the toys gimmick ridden and lacking articulation all just to satiate a toddler's mind which UTfags still are mentally to this day. It's why they're narcissistic brats who think the transformers brand owe them something despite the fact the shitty toys they grew up with is what caused the dark age of transformers in the early 2000s from borderline negative sales to a cartoon series so horrendous it stands against everything that define transformers. Ironically it was michael bay who brought transformers back to life by making it G1 again and the brand was saved. Aaron archer is responsible for the downfall of the transformers brand and its a shame not many know the actual truth

Pretty much. It has some flaws, but it's the best Grimlock we've ever gotten. There's a reason they keep releasing it in every color under the rainbow. His main flaw is the lack of sword, but you don't really need to get it. Nonnef probably has the cheapest option for one, but buying just a sword isn't worth it due to shipping costs.

>>
>>11686528
Maybe the same transformation, but with more effort put into the appearance. Night Glider has a decently sized head that's actually shaped like a squirrel's (everything except the bottom jaw, anyway), his legs are slimmer and pull off looking like a tail better than Bee's slab, and his arms and wings look far more natural, among other things. Night Glider was clearly designed around being a flying squirrel first and a robot second, while Bee was clearly designed to be Bee (in Naruto cosplay) first and his alt mode as an afterthought, and it shows.
>>
>>
>>11686664
I wonder if the new tooling will just be for the head, or if they'll also do something about those absolutely awful arms. If it's just the head, that'd be a welcome change, but probably not enough to get me to double-dip on such a bad mold if none of its other problems are addressed.

No, it looks like it has stumps with car doors attached to the elbows. A flying squirrel has membranes that connect from its wrists to its ankles. They aren't wings, and they don't hang off the arms like that. Again, Night Glider is much closer.

yeah but wings are better
now that i look at it though, I believe what those are is the entire patagium just attached to the arms, instead of attaching to the torso and letting the arms and legs detach. that's not quite as good. Plus he is overly boxy in both modes, and kinda looks like a Kakuranger mecha.

In my ever-expanding quest to have a modern interpretation of every Action Master, I struggled finding a good yellow jet to use as a basis for Powerflash. So I said fuck it, I'll do it myself.
I snagged the files for this totally not a VF-1 and shrunk them down by 50% to make him roughly large deluxe/small voyager sized, so far I have the entire main torso done so today's just gonna be printing the arms/legs/gun. I'm probably gonna modify the files for the head to have a single fin like the original toy instead of the two prong VF-1 style head later.

>>
>>
>>11685790
>>11685995
It's a shame that Energon seems to be the red-headed stepchild of the Unicron trilogy because I'd love to Hasbro try to tackle a modern Energon Optimus. They'd probably be able to make him less chonky too.
>>
>>
>>
>>11687555
The issue is I don't really care for Scourge or Galvatron, and there's also the appeal in this Cyclonus being very readily available and cheap. Do you think there's any significantly better alternatives?
>>
>>11687556
Oh, he's getting a repaint or retool this year, I'd just wait and see if that's worth it or if you should bite on the old ones
But sadly, cyclonus has no great toys. The older one is too small and lacks a lot of articulation, then there's g1 which the designer straight up said they got the transformation wrong
>>
>>11687553
My assumption is that he’s going to be a retool of Sureshot, but my hope is that they give him a “new” tool Powermaster (new is in parentheses because the Powermaster would already be part of the Sureshot tooling). I wouldn’t think it’d be that hard, given Headmasters have about the same amount of joints and they’re constantly included with Deluxes

Well Powerflash is done (95% really, his gun is printing as I'm typing this), and I'm pretty happy with this print job. Everything tabs in nicely, the articulation's fine, but I still have two complaints. The first one is that the articulated fingers are too damn fiddly at this scale, if you've ever messed with the hands on a RG Gundam you know what I mean. Depending on how much I like the gun I may just glue his hands in place.
The second is that the build uses these printed two-piece screws to assemble the kit. I used them for where they're pretty necessary, but there's some cases where the designer wanted you to use them to lock in parts of the transformation (Such as where the hip joints attach to the nosecone of the jet in robot mode). For that one I stuffed some greenstuff in there along with some magnets and just called it a day, works just as well enough.

The wings can spread out and rotate in robot mode, going from the default VF-1 look to something more akin to a Seeker. I'm probably gonna keep them like how I have them on the right, just to give him a bit more variety in looks for planeformers.

He's a big lad. The original files were for a Legends scaled version, so I had to upscale this one (I think by 150%?) but compared to Powerflash he's a much more involved build. He required pinning with brass rod, parts done in both PLA and TPU, and honestly I think the upscale kinda hurt the end result since he's pretty loose all over. You really can't get him into anything other than a neutral standing pose.

And by the way, do you think Transformers will be in the Nuremberg Toy Fair this week? We're all anxious about the last two of the Thirteen Primes and possibly even the special sets (Powerlinx Red Alert & Mini-Cons Pack, Sentinel Prime & Artifact Pack are some examples). Yeah its earned its stigma because the Energon show is shit and the toys is shit as well. this is the kind of bait that hot rod used to catch that whopper in the beginning of TF:TM

UT was very popular. Mini-Cons were selling like hotcakes and people loved the toys. Energon was the weakest out of the trilogy but the toys were still good even though the show was sub-par. He has a joint at the base and top of the neck, which REALLY opens up dynamic posing, as well as great shoulders too. The only thing I don't expressly like about him are his knees, but they are still passable, just not perfect.
