Friendly reminder that Nintendo didn't design the original Lego Mario. That was entirely one guy Lego Group. Everyone told him it was a bad idea. He didn't listen. Lego Mario was part of Legos push into digital garbage like manauls being digital only and the current Shart Brick.

how do you organize your MOC pieces? by color?
>>
>>
>>11732635
Anyways, I was never really into these. Yugioh was kind of popular in my cunt in the 2000s. I have no idea what Shonen Jump is. How the fuck were all you fags exposed to so many IPs as children? And answer my original question you flaming homosexual.
>>
>>11732642
You should only do that if you have a few pieces. Otherwise, no, I organize by piece family type. I have some of those racks for nuts n bolts, and like... All my slope pieces go in one tray, 1x2 in another, my technic style bricks in another, pins in another, tires in another, windows in another.
>>
>>11732646
Its probably cus you're in the Eurozone. In the USA #1 (greatest country on this earth) we used to get the big Shonen Jump comic/magazine. Its like a thick book with different comics at the time. Its where Dragon Ball (based) and Yugioh (based) first appeared, One Piece (gay), Bleach (gay), etc. in Japan there's Weekly Shonen Jump and monthly Shonen Jump. I don't know if they still sell it but back then it was a thing.
>>
>>11732637
You are the test for Lego
the first Zelda set was $300, sales were probably not as great as expected.
now they try again, lowered to $130
hold the line.
do not buy it
if you do not buy it now, next year the Zelda set might only be $80 (?) but also the next Star Trek set might also be $80. if you cave in and buy at $130, all the nostalgia bait will settle down to that level. so by not buying now, you help future-you and all of us in the future
>>
>>
>>11732649
Upon checking it out, I realized it has nothing to do with sonic and mario. I get mario, if you had any nintendo console you were bound to play at least mariokart, and then go further in the case you like it. What I don't get is how sonic isn't millenial shit.
>>
>>11732637
I used $40 CAD worth of insiders points to give Lego the amount of money I thought it should be. I know money's rapidly sliding into worthlessness but this set is not worth $10 CAD more than Viking Village was...

I am definitely a purist at heart, only collect original themes and have sold off my IP shit over the years, but do people actually like these kind of custom headmolds? I find them to always look incredibly jarring, usually being too wide, too tall, or both. Even now I see some shit like SW custom molds or even that new OoT Zelda set and think "damn, it's kinda cool" but whenever I see these figures I just think they look awful. I feel like Mario as an IP could have worked with the normal head but curious how others feel.

ironically the actual The Simpsons show did an episode where Homer was trapped inside a world built out of Lego, and they used minifig-style heads.
I bet that Lego uses test kids and the kids like the molded heads better than the minifig-style heads.
remember when Lego did Chima animals? Lego did not trust the animal heads would be accepted, so they made sure to have printed animal faces on regular heads under the animal helmets

For me there's three main problems
>Mario's head is too off-model, it looks too spherical

>Boot printing is bad, they should have been dual molded or at least had side printing to make it more convincing

I figured out part of why I hate it. The torso should be red with overalls painted on it to give it more red. The way minifigs are it makes mario look way too blue and they dont look like overalls. this must sound like a nitpick but it ruins the whole thing because now it looks like mario has a weird ass jacket covering his back and sides.

Minifigs are a genuine marvel of toy design that deserve all the love they get. The issue is that since lego took on adapting IPs it has now become about seeing Property™ in Lego™. Minifigs have unfortunately taken on the role of being more culturally beloved funkos rather then just little characters you use to interact with your sets and deepen the world you created for them.

>like minifigures more than actually building shit with bricks.
you can build all the things you want out of the bricks. but you still need the character to put in it. do you know how many kids made X-Wings before Lego got official Star Wars sets? all of them.
sometimes you can cobble together minifig pieces to get close-enough to your favorite movie/show character, sometimes you really wish Lego would print a torso with a bunch of gold chains so you can finally make your big A-Team Van

His feet should at least had side printing. I wish Lego would do just dual molding at the feet. With Simpsons I think is when they started doing what I'll just call sandwich molds, having shorts and shoes, are the only type of legs with separate molded feet.

it reminds me of Kylo Ren's cross-blade saber. they don't care if it makes sense, it just has to "look cool!" and if you only glance at it, it kinda does genuinely look cool.
but then remembering how tiny Jabba's arms were... you are absolutely correct to think Hulka The Hutt makes no sense. Lucas was always aware to not cross the line between cool and stupid, Disney is not, and often crosses that line

I have four thoughts going through my mind at this point:
1. Wahoo! Finally! Can't wait to hopefully get some!
2. The printing on Mario is, overall, quite simple. Yes, the head is complex, but the clothes are overall fairly simple. This makes me think that this line will be more geared towards kids, and there should be more, cheaper sets (like Animal Crossing) as opposed to a handful of expensive sets (like Zelda).
3. I wonder if Mario will simply replace the Animal Crossing line? Animal Crossing hasn't felt like it's done great sales-wise, and Mario could easily take its place and budget.
4. Prediction for the January 2027 CMF: Vacuum Salesman, which will make new molds for the Poltergust 3000.
>>
>>11732722
So, apparently the creator haunted mansion sold well and Lego saw demand for Halloween sets for years so starting this year we will get yearly "Halloween" village sets. Like how Lego does the Christmas themed village sets they will do it for Halloween. I'm very curious if the set will feature kids in costumes or actual monsters.

everything you listed was not-across-the-line, genuine attempts at being "cool" (c'mon, Maul's double lightsaber was cool!) just because Jar Jar Binks was a goofy character, at least he did not break or contradict anything. (okay C-3PO is a stretch lol)
there's a huge difference between Dexter's Diner being a nod to old 50's decor, and warping a ship through a fleet. one of those simply "looked cool!" and the other was ruin-level-ridiculous, in an attempt to look cool (to be fair, the warp-ramming did technically "look cool", and that's all RJ cared about)

They will buy the sets because of those IPs. Don’t you see? Why do you think LEGO partners with all these unusual IPs? They do it to bring fans of those IPs into the LEGO brand, because otherwise many of them would never have bought LEGO in the first place.
It already worked with LEGO Botanicals. That theme attracted many women who would not normally buy LEGO, and guess what happened next? A lot of them started buying other sets from different themes, not just the Botanicals line.
That is exactly what LEGO wants to achieve. They want to gain new customers and turn them into fans, while also encouraging existing fans to become brand ambassadors and spread their enthusiasm for LEGO almost like it is a religion.
>>
>>11733194

good deduction. I'm guessing it will be 100% similar to the Sonic sets they have made, which also have simple prints
3. I wonder if Mario will simply replace the Animal Crossing line? Animal Crossing hasn't felt like it's done great sales-wise, and Mario could easily take its place and budget.
I hope not, there's still 450-ish Animal Crossing characters to do, and so far Lego has done none of any that I care about. I think it seems to be selling well, but Lego has sales data, we don't

You underestimate the lengths people will go to just to get (((Thing))) with their favorite musician in it. I'm reminded of the time when people who have zero interest in RPGs, zero interest in gacha games, and possibly zero interest in video games in general started playing Final Fantasy Brave Exvius just because they put Ariana Grande in it as a playable character.
>>
>>
>>
>>11733256
Yeah, I'm just saying they definitely try to bait people in. Just draw them in and there will be some who stick around. Musicians are a huge draw, and people will open their wallets wide even for tickets and shit. Buying a Lego set isn't much of anything.
Doubt we'll ever get FF sets, but I wouldn't be shocked if we ultimately do, considering the dozens of IPs I thought would probably be "never evers" that Lego now has.
At any rate, I've been starting to put together some Final Fantasy Tactics inspired MOCs and mini dios and minifigures. Scratches an itch for FF and for more Medieval/castle stuff.

I hate the fact that the Mattel Brick Shop, also known as Mega Bloks or Mega Construx, has started focusing on display sets too. Their upcoming Masters of the Universe and Halo releases are also just display slop. What went wrong?

To me it was clear that with the rebranding of Mega it will focus on adults. So I can't blame Mattel for that. I like the new Marvel Moments collection, such as the Hulk vs. Hulkbuster and the Venom Spider-Man 3 sets, because, as the designers said, they are disPLAY sets. They are meant for both display and play. I wish Lego would move more in that direction than it does right now.

>Entirely studless models with no points to alter or build upon?
you can't blame Lego, it's the consoomer.
if nobody bought sets like this, they'd stop making them
my only hope is that Lego can tell the difference in the sales metrics. for example: I (consoomers?) did not buy the $400 Enterprise-D. does Lego conclude people are not interested in Star Trek? or do they conclude that people did not want such an expensive set? (to be clear, I desperately wanted Star Trek Lego, but I simply cannot afford a $400 set)

They treat Lego as a 3d puzzle. It's like asking what's the appeal of an actual print of a landscape vs the jigsaw version
dont get me wrong, I hate what's happening to lego too, just explaining how the brain is operating
>>
>>
>>11733357
I understand what you mean but it doesn't feel like an apt comparison since lego has instructions. I guess I still just have a hard time processing that lego is so normalfag approved normalfags would rather buy lego versions of things then other toys.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>11733359
It's aimed at adults that are not into LEGO. That means they do not care what kind of parts are used to build it. They won't build anything else out of the pieces and it goes straight on the shelf. I mean look at it. It's zero exposed studs because studded surface = childish in their minds.
>>
>>
>>
>>11733360
It’s actually been really smart of Lego (in a business sense) to position themselves as an “adult” product because they can get adults to buy things they never otherwise would.
A big toy Pikachu? That’s for kids. A big plastic rocket? That’s for kids. But make them Lego, and suddenly it’s socially acceptable for an adult to buy them, so they double their consumer base.

sometimes people enjoy smooth Lego models. it's like a "flex" or whatever. check it out! no studs! my Lego is so much cooler for it! I'm not saying I agree, but...
>>11733289
In this particular rocket's defense, it looks like they did some cool stuff instead of simply stacking castle tower curves, which would have had little stud-holes in the gaps, which this doesn't have. so... that's something neat, at least.
you are also correct in the fact that a regular model, not Lego, would be MUCH less expensive, but you gotta get dem minifigs, and Lego is gunna make a lot more money selling the rocket along with them.

You seem to be forgetting the fact that the build factor is what makes a lego set a lego set. They don't want a plastic model they glue together, they want building bricks that stack upon each other and make their favourite icons so they can put it on a shelf and go "I built that". If you hate the fact it doesn't look like your perceive ideal of lego, you have MOCslop SNOT fags to thank for that.

That wasn't suppose to be in support of Lucas, but more in defense of the original trilogy's "silliness". I am literally a zoomer who remembers Ep 2 and 3 coming out, have no idea why people defend the prequel trilogy so hard. They're not without merit and could have been good, can't say that for the sequel trilogy, but they do not stand up to the original trilogy. Even the worst or stupidest moments of the original trilogy feel inoffensive compared to the lowest moments of the prequels.

Gonna have to agree. The light speed attack destroyed space combat completely. You can't fix it now.
The worst thing is, it could have been solved by taking a page from Star Trek of all places. Imagine that instead of a slow speed chase, they were hiding in a nebula that the FO was slowly scanning. Same time issue, and now if you do the attack, it can only work in the nebula because it's got weird nebula physics.
I genuinely wish RJ would kill himself.

as terrible as the light-speed-ramming is, I think the worse dumb-thing was when the Starkiller base blew up those planets and the heroes look up in the sky to watch it happen. um.... those blown-up planets were on the other side of the galaxy. Lucas certainly would have veto'd that visual. but muh-disney was like "what? it looks cool! it's a good reaction shot, they all see it. powerful moment, right?" (I know they tried to explain it later with muh-hyperspace tear, but it's still dumb)
yeah it only takes a few minutes to figure out to re-write these things to make sense. maybe Maz has a giant news screen wall? breaking news! see? 1 minute more, and I fixed it.

This was an explanation from a designer:
>Icons
It's a theme that usually focuses on "iconic" stuff be it iconic cars, stories, brands, IPs, etc. Even old classic themes go here because they are iconic. Icons was made so Lego could do more licensed themes one offs and if those sets are hits they make more sets to it or even full themes.
>Ideas
Fan designs that can become real lego sets though nowadays it's a lot of licensed sets but Lego is changing focus and doing more original stuff while looking at which Ideas are more popular and even doing them in Icons be it original (depending on how original is the concept but since majority of Ideas projects are things but lego its easy gor them to get away with that) or some licensed IP, this way they don't pay the ideas designers anything.
>Editions
A licenslop theme where music, sports and other things can be put into do no need to make a separate music or sports theme.

Lego probably thought that minifig-head-Mario looked silly when standing next to Sonic the Hedgehog, or maybe test-kids were involved, and they obviously liked the molded heads better since they are kids (?)
but that don't mean that Lego can't make different versions later. how much later? I don't know, probably not for a while, but it's not never.

the simpsons figures started with normal heads when that theme was being tested so that is most likely why, either they did that or that is just how they have decided to do themes like this going forward since then

minifig-head Woody is the more-recent version though
Lego also did regular minifig-heads for Link & Zelda, I wonder if they even tested molded-heads for those (probably not lol)
Lego is a mess with maintaining consistency. like why does the Ninjago set have 8 minifigs while any other set at that price has only 3?

New 18+ slop dropped
We should get pics of the 18+ triceratops skeleton set too since that should be the same wave as this under jurassic park and then jurassic park 2 and 3 and some world sets in the summer.

They didn't need that when they decided to cancel Vidiyo (though they actually DID work on a non gimmick wave for a relaunch but they gave up after they realised they can't make it work, there's concept art).

For that price it doesn't even shape the fins or nozzle at the bottom correctly, I'd expect a full interior too

>I think if you happen to have a ladder piece and you put it sideways on a hinge, it would more accurately represent a goat pen rather than the vertical jail bars thing
This is the best I have for a hinge with the other brown parts I have, but I'm not happy with tge double gate door i ended up with. I think I like it better before, but I get what you mean from a pure aesthetic reasoning.

>To each his own. Looks good either way
Okay so fiddling I did this and am pretty happy with it. I just wish I had the clips in light brown to match. But I plan to get a few in a pick a brick order and I think I'll juat keep it like this but with the lighter brown. Its super secure now and I agree it looks cleaner. The little latch lock I also makes it feel more like the gate part proper and not more fence. What do you think about that?

I would have never come up with the latch lock on my own that's extremely creative and definitely looks good. It looked good both ways. So obviously it's your MOC so you can choose what to do. It was just a tip that I was giving because I thought that the ladders would be a better fit.
