I wonder if you could work ankle tilt into a transformation, such that the legs could sorta split and unfold and become a lot thinner as jet kibble
>>
>>11784166
I get why some people think this missing link missed the mark, but if you take it more literally.. it has made fewer changes thus far because fewer changes were warranted, but here...more.. was warranted. I mean how do you add ankle tilts and shit, to a guy with no feet? This is actually a missing link.
I think the line should be drawn at the altmode.. if the altmode is changed, you fucked up.

i dont read trasnformers/superhero comics because they are...well they are kind of not good and you have to read 500+ issues to understand where the story is now and why Blue Glub Shitto hates Purple-Green Glub Shitto and his Orange Glub Shitto son.
I thought it's a meme-picture about glub shitto meme "some random character that appeared in episode 325452 of season1 G1 and then in UK-comics blablabla"
it's like a Blue Print of Glub Shitto character lol!

This is a long shot. Does anybody know in which of Thew's Transformers review he says something is "a bit Naked Lunch, isn't it?"? I just watched that movie and want to finally get the reference. I think it was one of the older reviews.

IMO, Headmasters is the type of suck that just goes under the radar. People dont hate on them as much as Beast Machines or Energon, but with few exceptions any character from those shows are basically guaranteed to shelfwarm.

I think Ultra Magnus needed another pass, honestly. I bought it primarily because UM is my favorite Convoy deco anyway, but the tolerances and overall articulation/attachment scheme in the legs of the armor feels undercooked given how thin the panels are. There are some gnarly stress marks around the lateral hinge on mine because of how tight/stuck they were. Even just slotting the figure into the armor is clunky.
If I look at it as an Ultra Magnus reissue that happens to use ML Optimus as its core robot I'm content (which is more or less all I wanted) but as a Missing Link Ultra Magnus it needed more work. Especially for that Takara as fuck price.

The one on the left has to be a real wearable suit on camera that can be performed in, I think is part of the problem. A toy designer can make whatever, but different departments coordinating the design of a robot for a show might get complicated, like what if the costume department prioritizes something that's lightweight, or they literally don't have the time or budget for something extremely complicated this season, etc.

They're from a cartoon series called Quantum Heroes: Dinoster. Its currently on its third season (with a 4th confirmed), though only the first two have been released in english. It does that Cardbot thing where the toys improve massively with each season. The early toys are sentai style bricks, but they've been transitioning into Transformers style.

>>11784315
I dislike the mace is exclusive to the big pack because the big pack uses the brownish color for the skirt and canon. I'm getting the 10 dollar one because it has the black fusion canon which goes with my swapped chest and head damaged 86 Megs
>>
>>
>>11784315
Yeah, it's definitely a bad value if you only want a few of the parts. I could really do without the clone controller helmet, key, or lightsaber, but I'm going to get it just because I really like SS86 Megs and want to make him even better.
>>11784510
Will also be swapping the head and chest plate to the battle damaged version like this anon to get it as close to the definitive Megatron as I can.
>>
>>11784515
What a dud, that thing deviates way too much from the original. What’s the point if it’s not essentially the original but with more articulation? Wasn’t that the point of the line to begin with? That might as well be another CHUG release.

They already kinda did do A voyager, though it was Mega Class way back in Energon and it was fucking awesome
>>
>>11784594
No, it's in the canon tie-in comic. She's the Nemesis ship AI that was given a new body (Missing Link Nemesis Prime), then upgraded into Nemesis Star Convoy after teaming up with Energeon Shockblast. In this case, the "Nemesis" part is her actual name, while the rest is more of a title; there's some speculation that she may become the female Scourge from Yellow Fire Convoy's universe, since it was mentioned that that character was also supposed to be female.
>>
>>
>>11784620
Not really. She's a female character who remains a female character - 'she' doesn't become a 'he' at any point. This is like saying Blackarachnia is trans because her original toy was just a recolor of Tarantuals, or that Glyph is trans for being a Bumblebee repaint. The character is female, and was intended to be from the start. Deal with it.

>What was up with that and GDO anyway? I never saw Cloud stuff outside of the internet and only ever found GDO Swerve irl.
Just lines exclusive to Japan and China(initially). Cloud was another in a wave of e-Hobby/TakaraTomy Mall exclusives
GDO was a Asian market exclusive wave that was shown off at a Botcon, Hasbro mentioned they would not be sold in the US market, which lead to a small outcry. So they managed to work out a deal with Toys R Us to sell over here as exclusives.

I doubt i will get a combiner any time soon unless it was a small scale one and even then I am kind of neutral on Devastator himself, I think it is that he is like 80% the green which was fine in the cartoon but not sure about for my display spaces.

seriously, it's weird, it's like they looked back at the pre-zyuranger days and said "let's be like that but worse"

like I said earlier, this is actually the most sensible use of the term so far
the others are more like 'remasters' but this is an actual missing link between the original and how a modern toy of him would be done
>>
File: OIP-3662665424.jpg (41.7 KB)

I'd probably start with just putting ankle tilts on his feet. There's nothing complicated about this at all.

so, earlier, when I said 'he doesn't even have feet'

I like him. I never owned the original, and I think it's cool he can go from his cartoon version to a "close enough" version of his OG toy, so I'll probably be getting him - especially if they release him in his Diaclone black colors.
>>
>>11784515
I get this is controversial, but the more I look at it the more it feels like it’s meant to be more like the other G1 cars instead of a glorified mech suit/weapons platformer. Like if the diaclone Vanette was designed to be similar to the others from the start.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>11784647
You're a bit wrong there, anon. There's TWO Yellow Girl R.I.D. Primes.
Optimus Prime (girl) is from an alternate universe where she and that universe's Scourge just happened to be girls. Girltimus Prime starts out in the exact same red, normal-sized body as regular-style R.I.D. Prime, but later gets the yellow Spychanger body from the first Universe toyline. GirlScourge shrinks too.
Yellow Splended Convoy is a different character entirely, from the precursor universe before the JPG1verse. She's based on the full-sized yellow redeco of R.I.D. Prime. She doesn't have any connections to any GirlScourges or GirlNemesises.
>>
>>11784838
Considering what people buy the ML figures for, I do. As people have said. Just buy a CHUG if you want something with this many liberties. It's not the G1 toy with more articulation, it's not the animation model. It's neither here nor there.
>>
>>
>>11784841
Nah he looks great, ever since they revealed ML Arcee it's been clear that Missinglink isn't just about "the original toy but with modern articulation" but more like "recreating the toys that people wish existed back then" and Ironhide is pretty notorious for his original toy looking completely out of place from everyone else, so the direction they went in makes sense

So the ancient Autobots from Cybertron aren't just an homage anymore, they were the genuine G1 characters.
>>
>>
>>
>>11785023
So the plot is:
Shockwave, with new terrorcons based on Armada Nemesis Prime, attacks speedia in search of a G1 Convoy that is hidden on the planet (strongly implied to be the JG1 Convoy). The other part of his plan is using the terrorcons to turn the sleeping Convoy into Star Convoy, and corrupt him into Unicron. He also turned the Nemesis into a Convoy to control it and steal the Heart of Cybertron (looks like the ML matrix, then Star Convoy blade hilt). Turns out the stunticons were mislead, they were lured with fake Forestnight so they could ferry the HOC into this universe (apparently, it's needed for this sort of interdimensional travel). Shockblast moves into the next of his plan by destroying Speedia and takes off, eventually planning to do something in the G1 universe that will help with the GG universe reset.

Armada Convoy was a proof of concept proto. It couldn't transform, it was basically a static figure. That Galvatron is clearly a late-stage prototype. These are only getting canned if Menasor and Nemesis are absolute flops, and given they're debuting all these now Menasor has probably gotten a lot of preorders in.

No, the lore is that the Decepticons pulled an early IDW and took over the world from the shadows. Autobots are working with resistance cells that use Merc companies as a front. Weirdly, they snuck in some energon influence, like one of the human allies is Kicker, and Ironhide has influence from his energon design (which is weird since he was roadbuster in Japan, but they clearly made that connection with his English name).
>>
>>
>>11785052
Oh and a minor thing that happens, Hot Rod color changes to red using a cyber key to power up. This seems minor, but in Japan the alt color version was just Excellion red, not a new character like he is in the states.
>>
>>
>>11785072
Take this with a massive grain of salt, but I tested the photo of him, Nemesis Star Convoy, Lio Convoy, and MP Rhinox using pixel measurements and comparing to the heights of my Star Convoy and Leo Prime and it seems Galvatron is around 9 inches tall, which makes him still shorter than Magmatron and ironically almost perfectly matches my theory for how tall he would be

One of the major Japanese TF writers, Hirofumi Ichikawa, is such a western BW fan that when he wrote a story about Alternators Nemesis being possessed by Optimus Primal, he made it the American version of Primal specifically because he doesn’t like the Japanese portrayal of him
>>
>>11785028
If anything, this makes it even more blatant that she IS the Nemesis. The Nemesis ship wasn't originally a Transformer/Cybertronian; she was a ship AI that became self-aware. As is such, she doesn't have a Spark - her AI is housed in and powered by The Heart of Cybertron, which was used as the Matrix for the ML Nemesis Prime - meaning it's her transferred into a new body. Shockblast then uses this same Heart of Cybertron - now corrupted and enhanced by Unicron's energy via all the Armada Nemesis Primes' Dead Matrixes (Matricies?) - to revive a dead Convoy. The Heart acts as a replacement Spark, and since this is still the Nemesis' core unit, the consciousness that's controlling the body is the (now corrupted) Nemesis AI. So yes, Nemesis Star Convoy (along with Missing Link Nemesis Prime) IS the Nemesis ship AI and IS female, even though she's animating a dead Optimus' body (which makes no difference - it's not like Optimus had a robo-dong or anything that would make him physically one sex or another to begin with).

it does make you wonder what their plans with BWMP are. like, they're dragging ass hard on actually completing the season 1 cast, just occasionally doing recolors to recoup costs, but they used Cheetor for Shadow Panther instead of Tigatron and.. rereleased Primal with more accessories.. it's just a mess. But I imagine some of it is how much difficulty they're having making some of the designs work.

>Armada Convoy was a proof of concept proto. It couldn't transform, it was basically a static figure
That was FUD spread by a Hasbro designer that at best got lost in translation, or was intentional damage control over people being upset about the CHUGification of the final release. It was riddled with metal hardware, panel gaps and parts you wouldn't see in either mode. It obviously transformed if you looked at it for more than five seconds. It was further along than the essentially finalized grey model of Overgear Blackout's alt mode they showed off in the reveal that had no metal hardware or panel gaps to speak of and was just a print of the helicopter mode.

This poster rules, I should try to recreate with toys. I feel you though. I broke on G1 shit because I really like how much better the more recent SS86/The Movie figures represent the source material compared to older releases. I think there should always be classic looking G1 figures available for newcomers to collecting, but that should be balanced with new, different stuff for the real ones that have been here the entire time.

My money is on the sculpting for the container and supermode not being done and still in a greybox-engineering phase, which got mistranslated as couldn't transform into super mode. Takara usually starts with a static sculpt prototype (like Devastator here) that very clearly doesn't have metal hardware or working panel splits, then moves into working out how to make it transform with an unsculpted 'grey-box' prototype that blocks out the main transformation, and then finally adding sculptwork (veneering) to the grey-box engineering model.
If a Takara prototype has metal pins and screws and shit holding it together and air escape holes for functional mushroom pegs and very clearly got re-posed halfway through the show, it's in the final stages of being a toy. Especially if it has clear parts, which Armada Convoy did. Takara doesn't start adding clear parts until resin protos are basically done. Hell, the leg tabs on the prototype are even visibly chipped.

I got a cheap TR Perceptor in today. Was originally gonna use him as the base for a custom Kaon (using a 3D printed kit) but I actually really like him! Wish he had ankle tilts but what can you do. I like to imagine his altmode functions as either a laser cannon or a telescope- when the blue end faces outwards (see pic) it's a telescope, with light going in through the end and being beamed to the sensor array at the back. When it's the other way around with the black end facing forwards it's a laser cannon, with the lens focusing light from an emitter into a beam which is then fired out the other end.
My main complaint is the Headmaster storage is a bit weak, but I'm OK using the chair-gun as a sort of open cabin.

what are you talking about?
>-I found the concept of enhancing the toy's performance while keeping the appearance unchanged quite intriguing.
>>What led to the decision to maintain the original appearance this time?
In fact, there was considerable debate between the two approaches. At one point, we considered adhering strictly to the size and basic transformation while incorporating cartoon design elements for the finer details. However, as we delved into the project, we realised that these 'improvements' would undermine the nostalgia and original essence, rather than enhance it. So, we decided to adopt a policy that would avoid any changes that might disrupt the sense of nostalgia
sounds like the opposite of what you're saying..

Menasor was an ultra mold, they'd never have sold it as a voyager even without electronics. After all they were already taking them out of the actual voyager repaints in universe. best thing I've bought lately was picrel. It actually feels kind of like an exceptionally good Classics/Universe or even Armada/Cybertron toy. The prioritization of the car mode results in his bot proportions being a little odd and his legs and ankles being a bit messy and of questionable functionality, but the overall style and presentation is so cool that it's a non-issue. Really reminds me of what attracted me to collecting Transformers in the first place.
I also liked the fact that he was packaged in alt mode. I really miss that from the old days. I know collectors prefer being able to see the bot mode for QC purposes, but going from car-to-bot for the reveal is always more exciting.

the second thing. It's far more lucrative to get Timothy Boomer with his IT job and no girlfriend to repeatedly spend his disposable income on the same, marginally improved plastic avatars of his childhood than it is to legitimately attract new buyers with interesting toys based on the core concept of the brand. Mistake, a game set in the 90s that gets basic shit wrong with a big licenced music ost, stars 3 horrible humans as the protagonists and is a literal movie that auto plays without any user input.
Critics have given it almost universal 10/10 with some edgy ones going to a low 9.2 score. It was funded by the kid of one of the richest men in the world.

Then AFTERWARD you can be like 'you should have known that already / you could have looked that up easily'

Same. Freaks like Quintus and Amalgamous are what got me to commit full spread. Still not wild about the Thirteen as a concept if I'm being honest, but there are some really cool looking designs in there and, at the end of the day, that counts for a lot in TF.
>>
>>11786339
I like the 13 as a concept for two reasons:
giving a sort of roman god lore to the transformers and for being the ancestor of specific traits in transformers, like beastformers, triple changers, or having huge knockers
but shit like optimus being one of them is retarded
>>
>>
>>11786341
Sure and I don't mind it from that angle. Having the TF equivalent of gods that serve as archetypes/blueprints for all the different types of Transformers is fine and cool. Tying them to the Prime and lineage and making Optimus one of them is just getting a little incestuous with the lore from my perspective.
>>
>>11786153
Happy that I got Star Convoy and comic accurate versions of Megatronus and Liege Maximo. The other Primes were a bit more hit and miss. Loved Onyx, Solus, Alpha Trion and Amalgamous. Was only ok with Quintus and Micronus. Felt Prima, Nexus and Alchemist were kinda generic and meh.
>>
Question for those who have more experience with imports: what does HobbyLink Japan usually charge for shipping these days? They have Nemesis Star Convoy for the equivalent of almost 100 dollars cheaper than BBTS, but I feel like if the shipping ends up raising the cost to about the same I might as well go with BBTS.
>>
>>
>>11786353
I have not imported in a few years but shipping costs were rapidly inflating last time I looked at importing gunpla and the bigger and heavier a box the worse they can go even nearing the items value itself in worst cases.

I wonder if we're at the stage where bayformers starts doing deep cuts to get the fans of the source material on board. With adaptations being in right now (Sonic, Mario, Street Fighter) any sensible person would make it happen, right?

>>
>>11786153
I found it very hit and miss. The Primes that I like, I *really* like. Megatronus is probably my favourite. Micronus Prime I think is ingenious. Also really looking forward to Leige Maximo.
On the other hand, Solus, Quintus, Vector Prime, this new Alpha Trion really did nothing for me. So skipped.
Amalgamous Prime I thought looked great, but in hand I didn't enjoy him too much. Something about his arm articulation doesn't feel good in practice.

>but where the hell did they get the name "Gilthor" from?
>When asked on Twitter in 2019, Gilthor's co-creator Masumi Kaneda stated that he was inspired to name the character after an evil submarine (also ギルトール Girutōru) from an old Japanese superhero show called National Kid (as the Transformers Gilthor also emerges from the seabed). He further proposed that, in English, the name be interpreted as a combination of "Gil" (the man's name) and "Thor" (the god, although using a non-English pronunciation closer to "Tor").[2][3]

These people never consider that anything THEY do will be considered an issue. It's all about acting superior to other people.
It never occurs to them that they way they believe all the shit from twenty years ago is so primitive and barbaric, people twenty years from now will be viewing them the same way, and they'll either have to grovel or try to convince everyone "no, you don't understand, THAT'S DIFFERENT"
It happens now, and it's always so delicious when it does.
>>
>>
>>11786353
HLJ has made a deal with its shippers that force a "per item" fee to be added on top of the shipping and imports fees. For example I had 4 items totalling $18 and shipping was going to cost $58 by the cheapest shipping method. If you place an item in the cart to see shipping costs it is not accurate because thy don't add the "per item" fee to it. They consider it a separate charge to everything else. It only shows up in your final bill.

>"why would he be a centaur when he can already fly"
There are literally hundreds of TF characters who turn into jets, spaceships, helicopters, etc so why does this only bother you when it comes to Onyx?
>>
>>11786364
It's because TF writers are hacks. Always have been going back to the days of Budiansky and Furman, and they've only gotten worse through the decades.
>hey, HEY!
>remember Optimus Prime? The main character/hero of the franchise??
>well in case you forgot him, he's ALSO the Transformers' top sekret LONG LOST MISSING GOD!!1!
>how cool is that???
That was literally the only reason.
>>
>>
>>
>>11786475
Ok, but he shouldn't be, because that's dumb.
He's fucking Optimus Prime, he doesn't need his resume padded even more to somehow seem more important or cool. The 13th should be either Rodimus as several of us have pointed out or just a completely new unknown dude entirely.
I'm team Rodimus myself. He's literally been the "Chosen One" since 1986, a mysterious unknown figure who will only arise when the time is right, and the majority of TF writers and fans seem to miss this super easy layup.
>>
Rodimus should be his own thing separate from the thirteen. He's like Primus reincarnated/a vessel for his spark or something. The thirteenth should just be the last autobot since he's literally the last guy Primus created as a failsafe. I don't know why the thirteenth is some reincarnated mythical prophecy thing when the other 12 were just really strong guys Primus made.

All opinions come from a place of superiority to others (otherwise why are you sharing?). What matters is what you DO with that view of superiority.
