I assume all the overgear stuff is gonna specifically be desert military aesthetic? I think Optimus would look a lot better with an arctic camo color scheme.

Shrapnel is the hardest to find and the priciest. I was holding out for the rumored Target SS86 Inspections three pack, but I have way more Autobots than Decepticons in my G1 collection and the Insecticons felt like a really glaring absence from Megatron's crew, so I decided to just say fuck it and get the DCS. Not that much more than getting the Legacy versions on the after market and I think they look a lot better.

Bombshell has always been my favorite of the trio. I think I just like his mouth grill and horn and that they make him look like an evil bug knight. Also, maybe I'm stupid or it's just my copy, but his arms were a bitch to tab into the legs in bug mode.

No idea what they could possibly modify or add to make the new one seem viable, other than the facesculpt that I warmed up to
I'd imagine it'd just be Marvel vs Sunbow designs, but he'd lose his sword (from Regeneration One) and possibly his rifle (I don't remember what guns he used in the show, possibly his older pair), in exchange for ???
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>11786775
The only reasonable thing you could do with another shot at a Commander Rodimus is to make him an all-on-one transformation, except there's no way to do that in scale with 86 Optimus, Megatron, Magnus. Either the robot is way too big or the vehicle will be laughably small.

Not that anon, but to put it simply, this is garbage which the TFwiki treats like absolute canon.
"Ask Vector Prime" was set up sort of similar to the letters pages of old TF comic books, where fans could write in and get responses from people acting in-character as various TFs, such as Grimlock, Blaster, Dreadwind, etc., except in this case, the replies would come from "Vector Prime," whose powers could allow him to look into any TF universe/continuity for answers. Jim Sorenson was the primary responder as Vector Prime in this account. The guy fancies himself a great TF writer, having penned a few mostly forgettable FunPub stories, but since he failed to have enough creative talent for a significant impact, he used opportunities like this (as well as other things his entries for The Allspark Almanac) to latch onto the franchise like a leech and dictate what he wants to be canon without having to pitch, write, and get approval for actual stories to justify it. To make matters worse, he seems incapable of leaving his absolutely retarded politics out of it, resulting in preachy, masturbatory left-wing fever dreams like what's in that screenshot. Imagine a failed writer (who failed for a reason) being given a soapbox to conjure up the stupidest bits of continuity you've ever heard, all out of thin air, without needing to write stories to justify the existence of any of it. Any sane fandom would mock this trash into obscurity, but instead, the people running the TFwiki lap this stuff up like dogs, putting references to it in countless pages, treating it as authoritative as the real fiction from shows, movies, comics, etc. It makes it so that the only thing more embarrassing than the TFwiki itself, is the fact that Hasbro treats it as a reliable source for info when designing toys.
>>
>>
>>
>>11786996
>the only thing more embarrassing than the TFwiki itself, is the fact that Hasbro treats it as a reliable source for info when designing toys.
Yeah the writers a fag but if the wikis images were good it really wouldnt matter that hasbro used them. Problem is they aren't, meanwhile Seibertron has high quality images of the toys from all angles, and this isn’t used because...
>>
>>
>>11787012
I actually theorized that Hasbro has been using images from Seibertron because the first page of Armada Jetfire's toy has it mistransformed almost exactly like the new toy replicates, though the original toy's instructions also leave it mistransformed, so it could be coincidence

That is one of the funniest things about these folks, they always manage to make the most offensive 'inclusivity'
I'm reminded of Young Justice, after Greg had gone full radical, and kinda redid what JL did with homaging the Superfriends, and they're all talking like fucking El Dorado did, peppering their speech with badly-pronounced Japanese, Spanish, whatever, not for the HIGH vocab words that they might not reasonably know in English, but for the LOW vocab words that the audience is more likely to know. Total hack move that his types would normally call offensive.

This is why, as much as people complained about the hack writers of the old media in the 80's, guys just punching a clock for a paycheck, it was still preferable to this kind of nonsense. IDW writers who climbed so far up their own asses, they managed to alienate everyone in the end

>They DID sneak a whole bunch of fanon by Hasbro
You may want to reread this part:
>"the few responses to that request seem to indicate that most of the questions were written by the Almanac II's authors."
In other words, the guys who were already writing the canon stuff were the ones asking Sorenson to come up with this shit - they were literally feeding him questions, meaning they knew what the responses were going to be before "hiding" them in the book. This was a coordinated effort, not some guy going rogue and hiding his own headcanon in the margins.

>>
>>11787196
I did. The Almanac deals with Animated. but they stuck a bunch of retcons for other continuities as Easter Eggs in the margins.
so it wasn't the guys "already writing the canon" stuff because canon would've only corresponded to Animated.
The wiki's whole stance is that it is published so it counts,
and the wiki itself had a meltdown over people feeding Sorenson questions because they complained it was "gaming the system". Look at the Gobot's page. Some wiki authors got mad because by making AVP answer questions about Gobots, it made them officially Transformers lore and had to be covered by the wiki. so even some of them found the whole thing kinda dubious. there have been discussions on the whole thing.

>>
>>
>>11787204
>I did. The Almanac deals with Animated. but they stuck a bunch of retcons for other continuities as Easter Eggs in the margins.
So? They're still people who were trusted by Hasbro to handle Transformers lore - just because the Almanac was about Animated, that doesn't mean the questions the writers were asking Sorenson had to be about Animated, too. Again, in case this wasn't already clear for you: These are the people who were already in charge of the lore. They knew exactly what they were doing. Nothing made it into that Almanac that wasn't greenlit by Hasbro.
>>
>>11787214
Yep, I'm sure Hasbro knew the writers of the ANIMATED Almanac were going to throw out canon information about ALL the Transformers fiction, including tons of shit they were never in charge of to begin with,
And that's why they hid it as Easter Eggs (wiki's term for it) as opposed to straightforward information.
You're 100% sure of this because, uh, you just want it to be true.
It's really burning your ass that someone else doesn't think so huh?

>It's really burning your ass that someone else doesn't think so huh?
Well, for starters, I'm not the anon you were originally talking to. Honestly, I don't care about how canon any of it is either way - this is just what you'd call "stirring the pot". It's always fun to make autists reee.
>>
File: rally-21.jpg (33.0 KB)
>>11787203
>>11787210
The one half decent argument I've seen for the look of Missing Link Ironhide/Ratchet is that they are a tad too show accurate, and don't have enough "transitional" jank that would be less final model. Like how Great Car Rally Ratchet is *mostly* the cartoon model but also has some extra detail from the box art and somehow includes the treads from the sled as his own feet. That Takara focused too much on "here's a G1 toy Ratchet that looks like the show" instead of "here's a G1 toy Ratchet that would *inspire* the show".
>>
>>11787222
so I guess all those other mistakes people mentioned earlier in the thread, Ruckus, Roadburner, MAGA Jazz, none of those were actually mistakes because nothing slips by Hasbro.

I asked aaron an unrelated question at a con once but I think his answer is relevant to this trainwreck of a thread
He basically said that Hasbro was more concerned that each toy was getting enough spotlight than the minutiae of whatever minor lore or plot continuity a particular media piece was putting out, so long as it hit the really broad strokes and was fine from a 10-mile view
There is a reason that even attempts at larger continuities like Aligned, UT and the Bay films turned into clusterfucks and y'all'd probably have better mental health if you put that level of care into trying to analyze this shit
I want to say the original question was how the hell did wheelie being a sexpest make it into the final cut of rotf but its been a long time, I remember the answer more than the question that led to it

I think Kickback is probably the most visually improved figure from this set just by virtue of his wings being silver. Never cared for the clear plastic on the Legacy release. I've also always loved that his weapon is just a laser tommy gun. TFA Insecticons should have had a 30s gangster theme.
>>
>>11787317
It especially works because that's how Kickback even gets his name.
> Kickback is as charming a guy as you'll ever meet - but it is a charm rooted in an uncommonly cruel cleverness. The singular purpose of any friendship that this Insecticon begins is to dig up embarrassing facts about the other robot or person so that Kickback can influence his "friend" into doing his bidding. Humans are particularly susceptible to his seductive talents, but even Autobots have been known to succumb. The only thing Kickback enjoys more than recruiting these unwilling double agents is destroying them after he's exhausted their usefulness.

>>11787292
I have to disagree, when i lend my little guys the swords from larger figures they immediately look way cooler.
>>11787302
Rex Kaiser looks so friggin cool but the miniforce guys are just way too big it's ridiculous. I'd have to go with Rexblade by virtue of him being reasonably sized
>>
>>
>>11787322
it's probably fine for a kids line and better than cyberworld but wild king figures still look too cheap/waffly for me. plus i'd have to import them which makes them even more expensive so I don't think its worth it even if I think some of them look kinda neat. Id rather just put that money towards takara imports if I'm going to be paying import costs.

I don't really have strong feelings on this Shrapnel or the character, but he looks as nice as the others and the way his weapons combine is badass (badass).
>>11787318
That's fucking hilarious, old TF comic and toy bios are such kino.
>>11787323
I've yet to take that Skywarp out of the box, but it's a nice looking version of the mold. Everything in the set is very worth the money, kind of thinking about picking up the Reflector and Thundercracker set now.
>>
>>11787340
Yeah, Budiansky clearly had fun with that. He doesn't just kick back, he kickbacks. Of course, Larry Hama still wins the award for having fun while writing toy bios. GI Joe bios are just full of him making jokes for himself as much as making a cool toy personality kids would want to buy.

>Delicious, eh, Shrapnel?
>A little heavy on the electrons...electrons
>>11787341
Yeah, the Marvel TF comics are a really great balance of goofy fun while also taking the storytelling and characters seriously enough for you to keep buying into it. And Hama's a fucking legend. I'm not even a Joe guy and I still respect his stuff from a distance. In an age where long form storytelling in comics is basically dead, it's awesome that shit like Real American Hero gets to exist and continue after more than 300 issues. I know some of that is because there's no retirement plan for creators and Hama has bills to pay, but still.
>>
>>
>>11787324
That's how i feel generally abt Wild King as well, but Rexblade is something genuinely new, and he's juuuust Brave enough that I end up really wanting it, though the import fee does temper that.
Cyberworld is just sad though, it does a lot of cool and fun new stuff as well, and I'd probably like the designs in a different toyline, but nobody having any friggin elbows is just pitiful. I can't imagine many kids are dying to play with them

I do kind of get how some people think ML Ironhide/Ratchet look TOO good for being authentic G1 toys and kind of stand out among the others now but it's also kind of funny to think that some other people don't like this Missing Link release because it 'isn't janky/shitty enough' kek
>>
>>11787411
I think it looks pretty cool (and I tend to prefer a number of older toys to their modern counterparts) but I understand. It almost looks like an alternate take on Masterpiece or something. I think it preserves enough of the G1 flavor to pass, though it makes me wish they had been similarly liberal with Sunstreaker and even Optimus just to see how they handled it.

I'm curious, where you able to transform and have fun with it as a kid? As an adult, transforming the legs of the Encore release is already a bit of a chore due to the size and strong ratchets.
I still would have loved to have it as a kid, though. Incredible toy, way better than the Titans Returns disaster.

I need that Blackout like yesterday.
Anyway- decided to paint a cheap Siege Prowl to look a bit more Earth-y. Basically just painted the tyres with rubber black and gave the window "bubble" a smoky metallic/anti-glare look. Kinda like cool cop sunglasses for car mode. Also added some extra decals. May remove and replace the Cybertronian text or may not, probably gonna leave it. He does work as a futuristic Earth police car though, nice figure too.

TBF, Studio Series is just an overflow line for Generations so remakes of older G1 figures don't flood the main Generations roster. The actual mission statement is pretty much the same, hence why a lot of SS86 figures are just redecos.

Not him. Galvatron is a weird leader. He's strong, but he's also an achoholic and it actively fucks with his own plans. He values friendship and bonds, h3 genuinely believes in this and wants his subordinates to get along, but will still get pissed if they fuck up or do stupid shit. He legitimately loves his brother and even wants him to become the Destron leader once he's ready, but his brother spends almost the whole show trying to overthrow him, with Galvatron being heartbroken when he figures out what his brother is doing. He'll, this actually worked and the Destrons at the very end, finally fight like Galvatron wanted.

Like >>11788767 mentioned he cares for the wellbeing of his brother and subordinates (at least until he inexplicably doesn't care about his subordinates at the end of the show) and ends up being a weird angry drunk. His permanent lockjaw grimace and how he always sounds like he's talking with his jaw clenched is just really memorable to me. Plus his color scheme is really strange in a fun flamboyant way and having his altmodes be a drill tank and a giant pink dragon are things you just don't see all that often, especially as altmodes for the same guy.

File: Shield D Prime 1.jpg (342.0 KB)
Now that I've had a chance to fiddle with him a bit, here's the Zoids x Diaclone x Transformers crossover figure, Shield D Prime! I still need to sit down and look over Basara Prime a bit before I can review him - He's been sitting in Valkyrie mode one my shelf, but I was more interested in this guy right now.
We'll start in Liger mode. This form is (obviously) inspired by the Shield Liger from Zoids; it's an okayish representation, though some details are a little off due to the fact that this one actually transforms into a robot. He still has his side-mounted missile launchers (closed up here - they're on the blue strips on his side), plus the back mounted dual-barrel 20mm Beam Gun (also folded up here, though the barrels are still visible under the Diaclone cockpit on his back. The armature for the cannon is different and much stumpier here). His Anti-Zoid Triple Shock Cannon is mounted in the usual place on his chest between his front limbs, and his Anti-Zoid 30mm Beam Gun mounted to his tail tip. He's also presumably still got his laser fangs and Strike Claws, and E-Shields in his mane, though he has no effect pieces for them. New to his arsenal is that big FZ Ion Cannon on his side, which serves as his primary weapon in robot mode but is clearly more Diaclone inspired rather than looking like Optimus' usual blaster; also to note, all of his weapons are now stated to be Freezon powered. He has some electronics that make his primary cockpit light up and his jaws move, but I don't have any AA batteries on-hand at the moment to try them out; the switch to activate the feature is under his right armpit.
>>
File: Shield D Prime 2.jpg (365.9 KB)
>>11788909
As a crossover with both Zoids and Diaclone, Prime comes with some human pilots - Dianauts, using the new body design from the Diaclone reboot rather than the old one featured with the original Diaclone toys (or the reprints featured with some of the Missing Link TF characters). These guys have a lot more articulation than I was expecting - heads that can turn and look up and down, working elbows, working knees, and ab crunches in addition to the expected shoulder and thigh joints. Shield D Prime comes with a small sticker sheet that has black stickers that go in specific spots on his chassis; these stickers have metal filaments in them, and the Dianauts have magnets in their feet, meaning they can stand securely in the specific spots those stickers are supposed to be placed - you can see two of these stickers here right on top of the Liger's ears, plus a third to the left (your right) of the second cockpit in the rear; two more are located on either side of Prime's head in robot mode, plus there's a big one that's under the 20mm Beam Gun, only accessible when said gun is deployed.
>>
File: Shield D Prime 3.jpg (282.3 KB)
>>11788910
While in Shield Liger mode, Prime also has a little fold-down ramp in his crotch that can store and deploy a motorcycle for one of the two Diaclone pilots to use. It's a neat play feature, though the placement is a bit awkward; also, the motorcycle cannot be stored here in robot mode, as the ramp has to collapse onto itself and fold back between the legs as part of the transformation.
>>
File: Shield D Prime 4.jpg (498.3 KB)
>>11788911
Robot mode. Transformation is a bit more involved than "it just stands up" - his entire backside dislocates and swings forward rather than having his liger head fold down, and a bunch of things on his arms and legs rearrange themselves a bit as well. As stated, the motorcycle ramp has to collapse and fold between his legs, so the motorcycle itself has to be put aside in this mode - additionally, you have to strip the second cockpit, the dual-barrel beam gun, triple shock cannon, and a chunk of his backplate from him while transforming before reattaching them in a slightly different position later - mandatory partsforming, though I'm not sure how much that counts due to what else you end up doing with those parts.
Regardless, Prime ends up a very oddly proportioned robot - his arms are slim, his legs are long, thin, and double-jointed, and the bulk of his mass ends up in and around the Liger head on his chest. His electronic features are apparently still useable in this mode, plus you can still fold down the missile pods from his sides. He's got some really good articulation in all his joints, though, plus his hands can open and close, with his index finger being separate from the others so he can point and whatnot. He also has some pretty good lightpiping, though my light here isn't really strong enough for it to work properly.
>>
File: Dianaut Ship1.jpg (301.9 KB)
>>11788912
As mentioned, you have to take a bunch of parts off of him to transform him, but depending on your definition, of "partsforming", it may not really count - the parts that come off can all combine into a little shuttle that one of the Dianauts can pilot, and since none of these parts are really mandatory for robot mode, it's possible for one pilot to fly this contraption while the other sits in Prime's chest. The same cockpit is also cross-compatible with all Diaclone Reboot stuff, and most of these bits and bobs can attach to the 3mm and 4mm ports on those as well.
>>
File: Shield D Prime 5.jpg (321.9 KB)
>>11788913
This same ship also becomes a shield-gun thingy that can mount to Prime's arm, and you can detach the ion cannon so that he has a weapon on each side. - so again, depending on whether you define "parts detaching from one mode to become weapons for the other" as partsforming or not, it's not too bad. I still wish there was somewhere else to store that motorcycle, though - no matter what you do with the other bits, there's still nowhere for the bike to store or attach.
Overall, I like him, but it helps to not look at him as Optimus Prime - this toy was clearly a Diaclone playset first and foremost, what with all the play features designed for the Dianaut dudes; as is such, this seems more like a Zoid that was found and upgraded by the Dianauts and then given the ability to transform into a robot that happens to vaguely resemble Optimus Prime, rather than it being Prime himself. he's a weird - but fun - addition, but definitely fits better with Diaclone or Zoids than Transformers.

curious spot for it. . i would have expected it to be where the zoid's power switch is
yeah I was really excited for this, but in the end, it's really screwy looking. This is not the right shape for the hind legs to be, with skinny nothing thighs and big chunky shins... and the head is simply too truncated. zero neck. Though there's obviously sour grapes since I could never, ever afford it.
>>11788912
and really, for so many compromises in liger mode, is this really as good as they could get the robot mode? Those kneecap parts probably should have been on the liger thighs to begin with, to give them more meat.
The head, the shoulders, just.. looks haphazard.

My problem with a lot of these crossovers is that they're almost exclusively Optimus Prime. Sometimes they're Megatron. I don't care that Maverick is considered a shitty mold, he's still a new character so I'm all in. But then we hit Masterpiece scale and suddenly we gotta bank on Optimus Prime. At least give us a different head for robot mode so I can pretend it's someone else.

>Yeah I think he looks pretty good naked.
Except this is what the Shield Liger's back is SUPPOSED to look like. Much like Transformers, Zoids are cybernetic lifeforms, not mecha - they have full skeletons and everything under their gear, and Shield Liger is supposed to have a visible spine and curved back here instead of a box. But again, this is a Diaclone playset first and foremost - that oddly colored wedge visible in those pictures is another one of those magnet stickers, meaning it's intended to be an area for the Dianauts to walk around on. It's not horrible, but it's very much another concession that was made to fit the gimmicks of all three crossovers into one figure.
>>11788938
>Can you at least do a lot of different combinations of crazy Diaclone shit with that flat back?
I only own the Horus Versaulter Night Tiger and the Waruda Roars Jaguar, but yes - the weapons and parts from them do fit into the sockets there, as well as in a few other parts across the Liger's body. It was definitely made with that in mind.
>>11788940
>made a chute from the liger mouth to the motorbike ramp
I'm not sure the Liger would appreciate that. Zoids are living things; they let you strap stuff onto them (including cockpits), but gutting them is a no-no.

seriously, it's not even a zoid that ever had light-up stuff (since it's a Helic zoid with a canopy, not a Guylos/Zenebas zoid with like, actual separated eyes)
Obviously the mouth movement action is supposed to pay homage to zoids being motorized, but there's been non-motorized ones going back decades. they're just not as common.
>>11788942
that too. we're told that japan will not buy anyone but optimus, which is pretty weird. at least here you can tell yourself it's Lio Convoy.
>>11788949
oh hey, the new RMZ looks pretty good.
For people who don't know, these are smaller-scale posable zoids, aimed at people who aren't into either the motorized ones, nor the larger posable ones (that are like Perfect Grade gunpla with a billion pieces)
They tend to have much better proportions than the aforementioned 'high-end master model' ones, but in this case it might be a tad TOO stubby. For my taste, nothing beats the original.
>living things
yeah but only the core. The rest is an artificial body built around it. They are almost reverse-gutted, they only have one gut that is their heart, brain, everything.. there are massive carrier zoids that carry other zoids, and at least one of those can let them out through the mouth.

>Much like Transformers, Zoids are cybernetic lifeforms, not mecha
Nah they are mecha and the real robots kind like Gundam, Zoids are piloted by humans or the closest things to a human. The whole Zoid is completely mechanical and the only organic part is the Zoid Core that contains the entirety of the Zoids organs fitted inside a spherical core and placed usually on the chest of the Zoid. And the developing Zoids is practically similar to how military and contractors would develop military vehicles, basing Zoid designs on certain Wild Zoids, making the blueprints and getting the engineers to develop and build them. Later Zoids are made as successor units to address problems the previous ones have or expand their roles by developing new weapons and retrofitting some to serve different roles etc.

I'm...honestly baffled as to how you clearly are familiar with the franchise, have watched at least one series of it, and were able to rattle off exactly WHY Zoids are literally alive...and yet failed to understand that they're living things.
As you yourself said, the Zoid isn't the frame - it's the Core, which is analogous to a Transformers' Spark, except instead of being a mass of energy, it's literally all the organs of the Zoid stuffed into a sphere. Right off the bat, this makes them cyborgs, not mecha - as long as there's an organic component, it's not a simple robot. They evolved from organic beings, there's "wild" versions of them that exist as regular fauna on Zi, they can reproduce on their own, they are capable of moving around without a pilot, they can think for themselves, and do pretty much everything else you'd expect from a living entity.
You might want to read up on the official lore here: https://theironbible.com/ZoidBooks/ZoidsBible/Part3.php
>>
>>
>>11789093
I'm not denying that they're living beings. I'm saying they ARE mecha. Just because they have organs and are a lifeform does not mean they are disqualified from being /m/echa. Because even despite that fact they still have the hallmarks of a mecha franchise.
>>
>>11789093
And also, the level of sentience a Zoid can have really varies between canon. Because as far as I know Liger Zero, Berserk Fury and the Red Blade Liger from New Century Zero are displayed to have sentience and able to act on their own without their pilot. But other Zoids, especially the ones in Chaotic Century don't have that degree of sentience and are just portrayed as regular mechanical robots that needs a pilot to function. Even the Battle Story flip flops on it as well, it's not very consistent.

Scorponok is a treacherous bad guy with no morals. Galvatron is still an unhinged retard but not unhinged enough to get sent to an insane asylum planet. Overlord is somewhat honorable and does show concern for his fellow human destron allies. His most memorable moment for me was when Giga(his main godmaster) used a golfclub to hit a airplane with a golfball shaped explosive, which I guess means he likes to golf. Devil Z is a bad guy. Deathsaurus has a practically crippling rivalry with Star Saber but most of the time he sits around being a generic evil guy. The Victory manga tries to flesh him out a bit by explaining his rivalry and giving him a sympathetic reason for his motives. Violengiguar is a bad guy. Magmatron is uncaring for his troops and is a lot like Deathsaurus in that he usually sits around doing nothing and has a rivaly with the good guy leader, but he has a sassy computer subordinate to play off of sometimes that maybe makes him a little more fun. He also ends up being willing to sacrifice himself to stop a greater threat. Gigatron is a bad guy who wants to do bad guy things. He talks funny when he's in bat mode. Micron Legends Megatron is a might makes right sort of guy who does have a weird sense of honor. He ends up being a somewhat more complex character towards the end of the show, seemingly undergoing a modicum of character development after Starscream sacrifices himself to prove a point, causing Megatron to work with (even technically beneath) Convoy and the Cybertrons to stop a greater threat and even somewhat endears himself to the human crew of the Convoy's flagship. I never fully watched Superlink but it seems to have undone some of Megatron's development by the time he's reintroduced into the show as Galvatron, brainwashing his troops to be loyal to him and whatnot. Master Megatron is another might makes right sort of guy based on what I've seen of him but I've never really sat down and watched Galaxy Force in its entirety.

Yeah the best explanation I heard, and it varies from canon to canon, is that their bodies were based more strongly on the body that the zoid core used to belong to, ergo it's more like a bespoke fitted suit, and you can move more freely in it.
in any case I think it's pretty clear that 'mecha' can mean more than one thing. when anon said 'not mecha' he meant 'not merely a machine made in a factory' whereas the other anon is like 'it's a robot that you pilot, it's a mecha' and neither are wrong.
It also gets messy talking about cybernetic organisms when the 'organic' part is metallic. just a living thing with a metal body.

Just the outer casing - the official lore bible states all the Zoid's organs are stuffed in there; a Zoid Core is basically the same deal as what General Grievous from Star Wars had going on, with everything organic contained in a single, protective casing while the rest of the body was entirely artificial.

but are the organs themselves not also biometallic? I mean they feed exclusively on shit they pick up from the metal-rich seas. Maybe I'm wrong there and they also get like, nutrients.
Like clearly this setting was invented for model kits, it doesn't have the deepest and most thorough lore. We do know that humans came to the planet Zi at some point, and didn't... yknow, starve to death, so clearly it can support a normal biosphere (the native people of Zi are evolved from zoids, and just lost most of their metallic scales, so yeah maybe they are all fleshy inside)

>>

>but are the organs themselves not also biometallic?
Nah, it's stated that they encase their organs in bio metal for protection, not that the organs themselves are made of it (which makes sense - you don't want your heart or lungs made out of something that can't exactly expand or contract). We also know they still have actual DNA, since they basically clone themselves and reproduce by having their cores explode to scatter and y cores into the water; the babies use the DNA as blueprints for building new bodies that resemble their parent.
>>
>>11789609
now that is attention to detail
>>11789622
that makes sense.
I just love what a ridiculous yet instantly engaging premise it is. That there are metallic animals that primitive people figured out "hey if you slap wheels on this caterpillar, they will ROLL. if you put a fucking crossbow on his back, he can fire it" because their cores can integrate and operate any machinery. It's like even in-universe they are inherently customizable.

Dreadnoughts from 40K are the same thing. Remains of whoever that survived a brutal fight and is usually nothing more than a torso with a head gets entombed forever inside the mech and lives and dies with it, the Dreadnought being the user's new body and his organs also being the Dreadnought's organs. Even Gundam did something very similar in IBO with that concept.

To answer your question, I've never seen any AC x TF fics or crossovers. On the one hand, it would be kinda neat - but on the other, I honestly think the Transformers guys would be in over their heads, depending on which generation of games we're crossing over into (let's face it: AC4-4A NEXTs are insanely overpowered, even in-universe. There's a reason they backpedaled on that from ACV onwards).

fuzors are such an amazing idea, I wish they would bring it back.
only yknow, better this time. a lot of those were clumsy and weird. Lookin at you, Noctorro. What even IS going on with you?
The great thing is, with a fuzor you have an excuse for like, part of an animal which makes a good part of a robot, but where the rest of the animal does not. So you can just swap that out.

>>
>>
>>11789859
>a lot of those were clumsy and weird. Lookin at you, Noctorro. What even IS going on with you?
Desu the weirdness is half the appeal for me, they're bizarre even for the late-BW era which frequently got weird as hell to begin with.
>>11789860
More Transformers should be janky and a little awkward but fun to play with. Buzzclaw was a basic class, just $5 for Chrissake.
>>
>>11789866
You can be weird without being fucking awkward.
What makes a bat cool? The wings. So you put bat wings on a bull, it's not that hard (see 'Demobison'). Or you put a bull's head on a bat, maybe with hooved feet. Whatever.
You do not give him weird beefy arms that come from neither animal, ending in human hands with a few random extra fingers coming off of them with webbing. It's like they started out with a gorilla-bat hybrid, then changed their mind
The weirdass beast mode legs are at least correct for a bat, if you swivel the ankles. But on top of that, it's just another 'stands up' transformation. I just can't excuse this thing. I want it redesigned from scratch and I want that on my table by MONDAY!
actually I want to be the guy redesigning it...
>>

>>

>>11789862
An AC NEXT literally just has to stand next to something and it'll literally melt into goo. They're constantly generating a highly corrosive form of radiation that simultaneously shields them from attacks and utterly obliterates anything that isn't coated with anti-Kojima plating and causes organic material to burst into flame. Just using a NEXT renders areas inhospitable, so much that their Primal Armor is strictly outlawed anywhere near where people are living; even then, NEXT usage is slowly killing the planet regardless
They move at speeds that should technically kill the pilot (faster than any Cybertronian has ever been seen moving), have weapons designed to penetrate a Primal Armor forcefield (meaning they're stronger than standard fare weaponry, which just bounces off), regularly solo Arms Forts (basically giant, moving weapons platforms bigger than a Titan and manned by almost a city's worth of soldiers), and so on. They're just STUPIDLY powerful, and the average Transformers character would basically be a "Normal" in comparison - mechs that are basically just cannon fodder. For an idea of what they can do, here's a normal run of the Spirit of Motherwill Arms Fort:
https://youtu.be/932mooNi5ak?si=UfuDIR5sI48I9o33
Now, again, these are the strongest generation of ACs we're talking about - anything from Gen 3 and earlier would probably be on-par with what you see in Transformers, but realistically you'd want a Gen 5 AC (they're smaller - only 5m tall versus the 10m that ACs usually average - so they'd be on equal footing with most characters).
I should mention that Armored Core, like Transformers, has multiple continuities - AC 1, Project Phantasma, Master of the Arena, 2, and 2 Another Age are in one universe, 3, Silent Line, Nexus, and Last Raven are another, 4, 4 Answer, 5, and Verdict Day are another, and 6 is (currently) in its own universe.

Nineball Seraph is pretty much the only transforming mech in the franchise, going from robot to birdlike jet; Exusia also kinda-sorta transforms, but not to the same extent. The best part, though, is that both are piloted by AIs, so they'd probably fit into the Transformers universe better than the average AC (though considering the natures of both AI characters...God help the Transformers universe if they ever DID make it over there; Hustler One might be surprisingly reasonable, given his mission is to uplift humanity to its highest possible form by forcing them through hardships that are constantly testing humans and separating the wheat from the chaff, meaning he'd be against anyone trying to exterminate the species as a whole and would see the Decepticons as "not being part of the system". Chief, on the other hand...)

Yes. That WAS a city (known as Peace City; you had some missions there in the previous game); too much radiation from Kojima technology, like AC NEXTs, forced it to be abandoned. Which, again, gives you an idea of how big the Spirit of Motherwill is...and again, you regularly solo things that big throughout the game - sometimes multiple at once. I have no doubt a single NEXT could take down Unicron if it could get inside him, no Matrix required.

Another Arms Fort, Answerer. This one has the same invisible forcefield around it that your NEXT does and can corrode your mech if you come at it with low KP output. It also regularly spams an attack (called Assault Armor) that is basically the equivalent of multiple nuclear warheads all going off at once; this thing is deployed in-universe as a last resort, since it instantly renders anywhere it operates in completely uninhabitable.

Nothing so extreme, but I'd rate most ACs as significantly deadlier and more capable than most normal bots; they don't have any particularly space magic-y powers or esoteric capabilities, but they are very tough, very fast, can fly in both ground-skimming and VTOL mode, and pack serious firepower to match, often being expected to square off against other AC's. NEXTs, in particular, are infamous for being rape in a tin can; vids rel.

AC's are considered a FODDER enemy to these. The high speed and disregard for inertia is obvious, but they're also even tougher than ACs, and IIRC they have energy shields as well (note, I haven't played AC4 yet, but one of my friends was a massive AC nerd which is how I got into the series). As a side effect of their power source, they release massive amounts of radiation, which can't be effectively contained; enough that the surface of Earth was rendered largely sterile and uninhabitable by over-use of NEXTs (as well as other applications of Kojima technology).
Possible weaponry includes the usual ballistic and high-explosive options, as well as laser, particle beam, and plasma weapons. Energy swords are practically standard-issue for anyone that's not dual-wielding, and riot shield-style energy shields are also sometimes used. An AC or NEXT can carry up to four; two in hand, two more on shoulder mounts.
AC6 is easier to follow, and more representative of the average AC, in my opinion (while also looking great)

All in all, very powerful by Transformers standards, but their power is still mundane in nature.

To this day, I'm still kinda proud of myself for figuring out his whole story all on my own, despite how intentionally obtuse the storytelling was in those older games. I remember baiting Nine-Ball into that connector corridor so I could cheese him, rather than having to fight mano a mano in that bullshit giant wide-open vertical shaft... good times.
And then I died to the second one lol.

>>11789894
magnaboss himself is ... decent. But his individual bots are pretty crummy.
>>11789890
man that's pretty nuts. and here I thought the old Zoids sub-faction where the zoids were black with neon glowing parts and smoky cockpits (because they came from a continent that was full of toxic but powerful minerals that made their zoids unstoppable but also gave them light sensitivity and overall radiation sickness) was already gnar enough.

Well, remember how I said 4, 4 Answer, 5, and Verdict Day were all part of the same continuity? By the time of 5, at least a century has passed, and NEXTs have been abandoned because of how badly they fucked up the planet; now everyone's using those smaller, 5m tall Armored Cores instead, which are weaker and have no shielding but are safer to use (these are the ones that would probably be ideal for a TF crossover, since they're about the size of Bumblebee and don't have the super speed and other bullshit). At the end of the last game in that universal continuity, Verdict Day, the final boss actually digs up and repairs a NEXT, and then uses it against you - while you're still stuck using your smaller, weaker AC, meaning you get to see just how scary it was to be piloting one of those fodder mechs that you killed in swaths back in 4/4A. That whole "A NEXT doesn't even have to move to melt you" thing even happens here - during Phase 2, when the radiation in the area has built up, your AC's health starts rapidly dropping even when you're not getting hit by the enemy's attacks because the technology for making anti-Kojima plating no longer exists at this point of the timeline and your mech is getting corroded just from being in the area

nnneat.
23-ass years ago I had some friends who were so DEEPLY into AC and I could not believe it had even a tenth of the interactivity they claimed it did. I'd just never heard of that kind of depth and strategy in a realtime combat game.
>>11789935
sorry, sorry, just geekin' out over mecha.

There is one. Someone asked about any Armored Core x Transformers crossover fics, which is what led to this discussion about how any fic would have to take place in an Armored Core continuity that WASN'T the AC4-VD sequence, because Armored Core NEXTs are too OP to work with Transformers.
>>11789937
>I could not believe it had even a tenth of the interactivity they claimed it did.
Oh, it does. You spend most of your time building and tweaking your mech as you gain better parts - every part (head, arms, core, legs, generator, boosters, FCS/Targeting Computer, left arm weapon, right arm weapon, left back weapon, right back weapon, and optional/internal) all have a bazillion different stats (including weight and energy drain) that all interact with each other - you can't just throw together a mech using parts that you just think look cool, you have to factor in the stats of each part and be willing to make compromises if you don't want to literally cripple yourself.
>>
>>11789940
yeah but that part is par the course for mecha stuff, Mechwarrior had that
I meant the kinda combat they were describing to me. Sounded fuckin nuts. Like i couldn't even imagine what kinda button presses accomplished that sorta thing
in any case, good memories. I wish we had more kinda "mech-looking" transformers. Yknow kinda hulking, not concerned with their posture, with big shoulder-mounted missiles more often
>>
>>11789935
To be fair, I did start this by asking about TF crossover fics, so it's technically TF-related... sorta, kinda.
And yes, there is, but I actually didn't know, so thank you for putting me on to it. I don't really go on /m/ since I'm not much of a mechfag beyond Armored Core, Battletech, and Titanfall... and Transformers, depending on whether you count it as /m/ or not. Maybe I will ask them as well tomorrow or something.

It's baffling to me that AC figs are so sparse, robot lego is literally part of the core gameplay loop. There's no transforms, so all you need is a simple modular system for sticking limbs, heads, guns, and thrusters together - Bionicle did this decades ago - and then you're good to go. There's SHITLOADS of named, developer-built ACs in-game, not only as mission enemies but in the arena mode, so you can just make kits based on those and print what parts they use on the box, so in addition to getting a mech that's in the game, if you buy a buy a few you can snipe whatever parts you need to build YOUR OWN MECH that you used in game, and paint it exactly the same. With the amount of units AC6 sold and the significant crossover between AC fans and gunpla enjoyers, I fail to see how it wouldn't print money.

Another anon here commenting on the AC stuff. From what I recall of the PS1-era games, you could basically top out at a few decent builds in the campaigns on the first two discs, so in Master of Arena there are a bunch of challenge arenas that force you to do things like using certain style leg parts for the duration of the arena run. I actually had physical copies of all of them through V and just never had the time so I parted with them. Wish I would have made the time. I recall there being a brief comic that showcased a girl playing one of the later games by flipping the controller around so all of her fingers could be put to work grabbing buttons. Crazy stuff. Really doesn't work too well with our goofy idiot triple changers and basketball-playing semi-trucks in the slightest. I had my AI write a Peppa Pig x Beast Wars crossover though so I am in no place to judge.
Mechwarrior is typically slower because apparently the original Battletech game is secretly a future historical war game that's based on naval ship combat when you look at the combat results table. It's also more complex than filing taxes and half as much fun.
To end on a more relevant but still brain-damaged note, I think Warhammer 40K could have an anime film with the soundtrack and thematic timing of Transformers: The Movie and it would work.

To be fair, Kotobukiya has been making Armored Core model kits for quite some time now - and they're modular. The earlier kits are a bit on the shaky side in terms of engineering, given they were made back when Koto was still learning how to make models in general, but the later kits are just as good as action figures. As you said, they're mostly based on the premade mechs used by named enemy pilots, but they also did a few of the "default" models, which are great for partsswapping, plus several weapon packs. I was able to accurately recreate my AC4A NEXT right down to the exact stabilizers I used, which was great.
I'd post a pic, but we're at image limit; besides, I don't want to veer any further off-topic.

I kind of lost interest, it's my fav Liege Maximo look but the head is not ideal & seems a little bland, + there is the Takara stuff I'm more thrilled by, maybe in the coming years if he's being resold cheaper, if not I won't miss him

Back in the early days of SHF here on /toy/, there was an anon who found that a lot of BW deluxes worked really well as standins for Kaijin for Kamen Riders to fight. t was cool to see photography of the two mixed in.
