>Whimsical comedy. Last watched this in SD on TV over two decades ago. Not actually a family movie, despite that fantastic production design. Looks incredible, LL Cool J's character is hilarious and Gambon's character is amusingly deranged. The rest of the cast just have very underdeveloped and annoying characters who spend most of their screentime testing annoying toys and who don't really need to exist-this is Gambon's story. That said, this looks fantastic and it's wonderfully whimsical and quite funny at times-not commercially viable in any sense but the 50 million budget is on the screen. Really, really good!

I'd say simping could mean investing a lot of resources (time, money, emotions) into a woman that doesn't care for you romantically or is using you for selfish purposes, though I also think simping could mean overidealizing a woman. Watch Scarlet Street for more info on the topic.
>>
>>217709430

I almost made a new thread but I decided to share my thoughts with you instead, I guess for visibility's sake but it is a matter of artistry. I'm watching this film Sideways right now because an anon mentioned it in another thread yesterday and it's been a great, very comfy and suitable movie for my sunday morning. The thought that popped into my mind once again was the matter of soundtrack. Lately I've noticed that I could tell a movie has a great soundtrack in the first 5-10 minutes (assuming that time doesn't simply include the intro and central theme). I've been correct on The Conversation and Roman J. Israel Esq. if my memory serves me well. And there was another old movie with some nice jazz songs in it but I forget the name. Would you say (even in a big commercial movie) that it's true that you can tell the quality of the soundtrack within the first few scenes? Or am I just moved by the bait that hangs there when the audience is supposed to be capture in the beginning? Either way, it feels fucking great to just listen to the music as they put on a transitory scene where the characters change place sitting in a car or the ambient scene of the last hour of the night after a long hard evening.
>>
>>217710258
Why, Fuller of course.
>>
>>217710602
You can tell from the opening credits alone. But these days i prefer little to no music, and preferably only diegetic, but that's rare.

Is pic related /film/?
>>
>>217710629
>You can tell from the opening credits alone.
Isn't that so! What causes that? The director's ingenuity or the fact that it actually is some famous composer who's done a lot of work who you don't simply know about? People know about John Williams and Zimmer but there's gotta be quite the wizards out there doing small but quality gigs. It makes good movies so much more memorable. Sometimes I can't even concentrate on the music on some first watches. I prefer quiet ambience to pop songs or anything with vocals. Some of this Netflix shit that I've seen like Stranger Things or The Queen's Gambit is just filled with these pop songs that play for 20 seconds for no other reason than the director's fart huffing and cheaply manipulating the dumbfuck audience.

Smug shit takes don't stimulate proper answers. But since you're asking for one I will say it.

I personally like his films because of his cultivated style and his tenure as a genuine auteur. What do I mean by this? The way he spearheaded modern filmmaking outside of the studio system, his preoccupation with human truths (both material/historical and spiritual), and how he expanded to TV movies when television was becoming hegemonical; because he saw it as it was, a tool maybe more powerful than the silver screen to reach to the audience.

I'm just gonna repeat what I said in a previous thread. Heavy Traffic reminds me of an animated version of Buffalo '66 mixed with Voyage au bout de la nuit. A lot of people here would be into it, if they got past their anti-animation bias.

This is a masterpiece and needs a restoration. Only DVD-Rips and an >upscaled 1080p video are available.

many such cases
its gotten hard to prioritize watching anything that isnt at least genuine blu ray quality at this point

I'm fine with DVD-Rips. But it's still a shame that such magnificent film doesn't have a BluRay. I strongly recommend it.

Are you retarded?
That's rhetorical btw, because it's painfully obvious you are. Rosselini's appeal is not WW2 or relationships, it is REALISM you fucking faggot. He is not trying to present to you a story or an idea, he is trying get you to understand through genuine felt emotion the lived experiences of his characters who are all based and even acted by real people.

Does Letterboxed have a way to see a ranked list of directors, writers, actors or studios based on your average ranking of films you've watched that they're associated with?

I can't believe I was gone the whole weekend and this same thread is still up. Anyways someone either here or on /int/ recommended The End of Old Times ages ago and it turned out to be fabulous. A real top notch czechoslovak comedy.

The movie is decent, it's just that the intro scene is the most pretentious thing I've ever seen in a film

Already posted 13 times and the 14th gave me a three day spanking. Resetting my router doesn't change IP for me, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It's a DHCP connection or whatever but I'm too much of a dumb baby to figure it out. Have reset router config too.

Is this worth watching? Read about it and people treat it like some spiritual revelation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throw_Away_Your_Books,_Rally_in_the_Streets
>>
>>217735971
It's not a spiritual revelation, just a very stylish movie. It's not even thematically spiritual, it might as well be a communist manifesto.
>>
>>217735962
She's fun.

Her music makes me want to vomit and die and never be alive again. I'd even prefer stanwyck's singing to hers.

>Her music makes me want to vomit and die and never be alive again.
Weak. Barbra Streisand... and Other Musical Instruments is one of the greatest albums of all time.
>prefer stanwyck's singing to hers
She could sing? Thought they dubbed her in Ball of Fire.
>>
>>217735971
Couldn't stand it.

This.
>>
>>217736139
Did they? I've seen clips of her singing from two movies and they both have her nasally voice
>>
>>217735906
Joyce Ames was cute as a button and the huge height difference between her and Tommy Tune made their dances together especially delightful.
