the only Star Trek I have ever watched are the movies I-V.
The Motion Picture: Unironically one of the best movies I have ever seen. Extraordinary. 5 stars.
Wrath of Khan: One of the best action/adventure movies I have seen. I put it on a level with Indiana Jones. 5 stars.
Search for Spock: Yeeeesh. Dry, dull, anticlimactic, very forgettable. 2 stars.
Voyage Home: OK it's not a great movie but it was a lot of fun. I have enough positive feeling for Trek at this stage to give it a lot of passes. I can imagine putting this on again and again and really enjoying it each time. 4 stars.
Final Frontier: Absolute mess. Looks dirt cheap. Terrible comedy moments. A plot that promises a lot but is utterly wasted. Less said about it the better. 1 star.

I have a soft spot for V because it has this weird, dreamlike quality to it. Especially when they land on the God planet it feels like a trippy TOS episode.

In summary, Kurtzman has plagiarised Dune, Mass Effect, and even himself by destroying the Romulan Empire and turning them into refugees, then repeating the same move with the Klingons, along with the same recycled beats of galaxy ending AIs, reality tearing portals, time travel fixes, fallen Federations, and “machines are bad” plots, sometimes in back to back seasons.

The first season and like half of the second season is pretty rough and filled to the brim with nostalgia bait and fan service.
But it's really good after that up until the final which was a rushed shit show. The best way I can put it is they did the idea Voyager started with better. A lone ship out in the middle of no where with no back up. By the end of the Xindi arc, the shit was beat to shit and looked like a patch work, not upgraded way beyond what it was originally came to the delta quadrant with.

Bad cast, bad writing, bad overall story direction, also I generally hate all prequels and find them unnecessary slop, particularly with Star Trek which should always move forward, never go BACK.
Philosophically, the show was a mess.
Fact is Berman is a much better bean counter/occasional editor than he is a showrunner/head writer.

Didn't the Borg get all fucked up in one of these shows too? And don't forget that time he blew up Vulcan and made the Vulcans into an endangered species, though I guess those movies are just their own continuity? Idk I don't count anything after ENT as being canon in any way shape or form, it's all just hateful fanfiction.

TNG newfag blog posting with another episode I just finished and enjoyed - Deja Q. Normally I find the Q episodes a bit hit and miss but this was my favorite one so far. The humour was great especially with how everyone is so over Q and is antics but he keeps hamming it up regardless, the exploration of humanity and what it means from Q and Data’s POV was good, especially with the limitations of humanity and mortality, and I liked getting to know a bit more about the continuum. Especially as it seems Q is the idiot/outcast of the group despite him acting the opposite.
Sometimes these episodes can be too serious, which I don’t mind, but episodes like this are a good palette cleanser. Also the aliens of the planet they were trying to save looked like they had an anus for a mouth which was distracting.
All in all, another good episode of the show in a season which has found its feet.

Nobody actually wants to talk about these new shows sincerely. Most discussion is about how woke and awful they are, and even discussion like that draw eyes on the IP.
I think most people hatewatch this shit if they watch it at all.
>>
>>
>>217719017
Pretty interesting analysis, though idk what my deal is because I liked S1 and S2 right out of the gate. And I even went into it with negative thoughts. I tried watching it back in the 00s as it was coming out but despised it. Tried locking back in just to see how much of it I could stand, and for some reason it captivated me.
I still think it was bad to try a prequel; the sloppy cancellation lead to very rushed serialization and Archer’s whole “growing angry” development felt a bit debby dower, but overall I enjoyed it
>>
>>217719540
The first two episodes were lame. The prank episode was meh, could have been just any YA show or a B-plot on SNW. The Klingon debate episode felt like Star Trek in that it showed the difficulty of reaching a cross cultural agreement until people learned to listen and recontextualize, using personal terms as an allegory. It felt really Trekky, but I have no particular hope for the rest of the season. I expect two bangers, two to four mehs and the rest duds.

Hahah you’re not wrong. Sorry how on one hand I get Measure of a Man, and on the other hand I have some re-cast nuPike and a viewscreen of Klingons singing and dancing. Which series will resonate more with viewers and inspire endless discussion, I wonder

no i'm thinking about it like this:
for 1000s of years humans have manipulated livestock by selective breeding giving them the traits we want regarding harvesting their meat, hide, milk, eggs, etc
so if we're not doing that anymore we would then start doing selective breeding to make them eventually more like their wild ancestors and not dependent on human care anymore to survive
>>
>>
>>217720209
>wild ancestors
wild animals can still over reproduce and become a problem for any society. you are also putting domesticated animals back with wild animals and expecting everything to go well. It just seems like a throwaway line where they didnt think about the actual ramifications of what it would mean. humans themselves are part of a food chain and when you take away their dependence on meat or plant life, you also take away an animals natural enemy which allows them to breed and kill other animals for dominance.

S1 through about S3 of TNG are hilarious because they really were just taking these wild shots in the dark about the speculative future. Irish Unification of 2024, Fermat’s Theorem remaining unsolved for the last 800 years (proved like six years after that episode aired lol), that American flag with 52 stars that shows up and is dated to the 21st century.
Seems like they pulled back on that kind of stuff later on. It doesn’t really bother me per se but it makes it feel like the series isn’t as future proofed as it could have been. Much more exciting to enjoy in the 90s versus revisiting and seeing how lots of things are now wrong

Roger Ebert sums it up best: https://youtu.be/KFOqq2w92ss?t=407
On both of those accounts, Lower Decks succeeds. The plots are about the values of the Federation and solving problems, while the characters all grow and change into better people. The jokes hit or miss, but they hit more than they miss.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roikGog0cuE
Honestly, people here just don't want to give it a chance. I suspect the vast majority of people here have some kind of autism or ego problem that renders them incapable of admitting they were wrong.
It's not perfect, but it's better than most of Voyager or Enterprise.

I can see how Lower Decks would be palpable if you are a) willing to repeatedly try every new star trek that kurtzman shits out with the optimistic hope that SOMETHING has to be good eventually, b) a little bit naive in thinking things have to be graded on a curve or with respect to the other stuff around it, c) mentally handicapped or suffer from developmental issues and are a man child, and/or d) at the point where you’ve just lost your marbles and you now have a sort of stalkholm syndrome
And yes I am self aware enough to realize lots of the posts about LD that are in earnest are still just bait posts. But I know there are some anons who actually do claim to legitimately find it enjoyable

There are moles in this thread selling us the scraps that the enemy power throws out to feed the headless chickens in the fandom. They are cunning and play on nostalgia and the want for more. What they take in exchange is your integral vision of the future that made you fall in love with the world. They depreciate it and rob it of all its established values until you question your own and welcome tawdry soap operas without insight or verisimilitude. Rout them out by any means necessary. Belittle them and force them into light and let their idiotic ideas founder like fish on a river bank.

I respect the effort but I would counter and say Kurtzman doesn’t exactly offer the direct “antithesis” of Trek. Moreso he’s just a hack (i’ve been overusing this word recently, need something new for my diction), a hack who offers shitty takes on expanded lore and who just parrots the general trend of nerd culture shifting to gray morality and subverted offerings of good vs bad and blind acceptance with no morals and reddit humor that appeals to a mass market of lamer and lamer troons and fanboys

Baaaaaaait, come on. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but opinions can still be gay and wrong.
Enterprise had the luxury of having a lot of fan-favorite captains before it so they did get to cherrypick what a cowboy captain prequel leader could be before even TOS and Kirk, but Kirk is the original and the blueprint and made the whole franchise famous. No way Archer can ever be ranked above what William Shatner gave us. And I love Archer

Shatner? I'm not even talking about his performances. I'm talking about Kirk's depth as a character.

They didn't have one written; they didn't think it necessary. In fact the only reason they had an engine room at all was because Gene had the foresight to use the pilot's budget to create the set by writing a scene there.
I don't think they really knew what the fuck every character was going to do. Worf just sorts of floats around until Tasha dies and we never really get a science officer until Picard fucks that one lady.

>Just give redit and morty: trek skin suit a chance BRO
>its good BRO
Its an utter waste of the medium. A pg12 version of archer99 that constantly crutches on memberberries and "meta gags" rather than having a script to stand on...hell as primitive as the animated series was at least had scripts that told a story.

Washington DC has no way to become a state without a different district for the seat of Federal authority being created to replace it.
It's also still dubious as to what the process is for existing states to break apart into smaller states, and it will probably require a constitutional amendment being ratified for the process to be outlined. The state of Jefferson referendum was the last discussion on the topic and it got delayed/sidelined by World War II.
Admitting a province that seeks independence from Mexico or Canada is more feasible. Puerto Rico hasn't had a popular vote in favor of statehood yet.

I'm finally watching Picard season 3. In the middle of season 1 i dropped it and was entirely done with Kurtzman. But I still see comments from people saying its alright to good. So I'm on Episode 4 and yeah its not that terrible, at least compared to Season 1. At this point I'd say its better than Nemesis. There is some bad elements, still got that nu trek smell, but it also has some decent moments. It feels like they at least added one writer to the staff whos at least watched Star Trek

>>217725103
The first 2 season sucked major balls, then they got inspiration from somewhere and decided to make a somewhat maybe perhaps possibly okayISH (big ish) season that focused on un-fucking up Nemesis, and showing SOME sort of semblance of memberberries done correctly and not some trash ass retcon of all the stuff you loved about TNG. Also RLM sang praise of it being "good," compared to the last two seasons, so everyone freaked out and started saying
>PIC is good now omg!!
It's still qualitatively ass nontheless, but better. Like saying the shit I took yesterday smelled better than the dump I took the day before.

The entire season is one big "Get the Ent-D crew back together" roadtrip, the big final threat revolves around Changeling infiltrators compromisingthe transporters, and nobody thinks to call Miles fucking O'Brien.
0/10.

She's A science officer, but she's not THE science officer. Spock was the head science officer, Beverly was Bones. Data is the one who took Spock's place functionally, but he wore yellow not blue.

I think Retardo thought the quote was:

Whatever that means.

>Fucking Laredo is a better character than Mayweather.
LOL for the entire run of Enterprise, we always called the pilot "Laredo" instead.
Mayweather was the 2nd worst character. that guy grew up on a freighter, and his hobby was rock climbing? those writers had no idea what to do with him.
Reed was by a wide margin the more-worse character, they had a whole episode of the actual show revolve around how they knew nothing about him, for his birthday. and they used his crap to science that he likes pineapples.

Her face card is crazy, she’s always serving that cuntish smirk (in a good way). Must’ve been such a nice gig to be a repeat actor for Trek in the 90s. Just put me in makeup and give me a paycheck, bet it was a lot of fun

That just means that their titties would be less likely to get saggy and require cosmetic replacements. Also, if you did get fake tits in the 23rd century, they should probably be better than beachballs of saline.

I picked TNG as my first Trek show I've actively gone out if my way to watch. Jellyfish two-parter was nice. Thoughts:
>I don't care much for the Gypsy scanning the room based on her "vibes"
she seems redundant when there's a robot and a dude that can see the electromagnetic spectrum on the team
>Worf seems to be a bit whipped for a Klingon. He did zero fighting and looked like a sad puppy when Picard told him to take the civilians instead.
>Security chief is hot
>uniforms are snazzy
>wonderment hit me when those faggy jellyfish docked
>that child actor was 1000% molested
Great show. Can't wait to watch more.

He was on Star Trek for 7 years as Tuvok but when he goes to conventions people remember him as the "Comb the Desert!" guy from Spaceballs lol
