Do you watch the original series with the cgi special effects or original? i personally dont like the changes aesthetically and also from a standpoint of how the show was made. If you are going to change the effects you might as well fix everything. I feel the same about NG remaster but its more forgivable but some things arent changed for the better. I dont mind going from 1080p to 480p.

You can switch between them on the blu ray. Dont know if its oop in your country. I'd buy up all the blu ray releases (tos,ng,enterprise) because i cant see paramount reissuing them for a while. Hell even ds9 and voyager look better on dvd than on paramount plus.

>Alexander Hilary Kurtzman (born September 7, 1973) is an American filmmaker. He is best known for co-writing the scripts to Transformers (2007), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) with his writing and producing partner Roberto Orci, and directing and co-writing The Mummy (2017). Cardassians are next.

They're apparently going to start wanking Benjamin sisko heavily late in SA if rumors are true which means they'll try to cheaply capitalize off of DS9's popularity next in the most canon-destroying, soulless way you can possibly imagine.
They might even do a fucking DS9 prequel and recast everyone.

There are two ways to worldbuild: wide and tall.
Tolkien built tall. LOTR has relatively few races, but they all had languages and deep histories.
Star Wars is wide: it showcased many different aliens, but they had little thought put into them. Star Trek used to be a mix. Some races, like the Klingons, Cardassians, and the Dominion, were built tall, while many others were just humans with hats for one episode.

Kurtzman does neither. He relies heavily on memberberries, bringing back races like Cheron in the Section 31 movie and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, or the salt vampire in Lower Decks, without really adding anything to the lore or worldbuilding.

seriously, if Cheron or similar added, why not explain how they are back?

>goofy looking creatures

have you seen any star trek? the original series has the best written episodes and is basically the blueprint for everything that came after it. Its why they keep referencing it in the other shows. The original series isnt as stuffy as NG too. Theres none of that bullshit about wading through shit to get to gold. Not that every episode is perfect but the ratio is much better. IT also has the best aesthetics. Always found NG too muted. Im not shitting on NG btw and im glad it got 7 seasons because it is a true journey and thats its selling point. I wish the og wasnt dumped but then again they would have just kept lowering the budget.
>>
>>217703103
I think youve gotta be an unc to like this fr fr
>have you seen any star trek?
DS9, ENT, most of TNG, and some Voyager.
>>
>>217703103
Agreed. As far as I remember, only the Salt Vampire, Gorn, and Mugato fall into the “goofy monster of the week” category. Most of the original series relied more on strong writing and ideas rather than on creature costumes, and the majority of episodes don’t hinge on monsters at all

I mean if I could lay some blame on Star Treks writing in general (especially Next Generation) it would be that every episode was written with answer in mind. This can be a shallow way to explore topics. For example, I always found Who Watches the Watchers too simple in its execution in comparison with the themes its dealing with. Episodic writing structures also encourage this. That being said these shows are dealing with story arcs and there exploration of the themes are even more shallow because they offer no insight. They are obviously too eager to get to battle scenes rather than letting you live in the world they have created (which is dour and depressing anyways). All these creatures were created for individual episodes and thats where there backstory ends. The more you try to add to them lore wise the more you take away from there power as a storytelling device. Klingons were tailored to explore specific topics in episodes. An exception being the episode where Worf takes in a boy as his family which is a great bit of added lore. That episode is one of my favourites. I forgot why I even wrote this reply desu
>>
>>217703327

You might as well watch nuTrek if costume design is a prerogative for you. That Gorn episode is parodied for the costume and bad choreography but it also has a great concept which makes me want to watch it again. That concept has been copied in subsequent series where superior alien beings test the will and morality of the characters.
>>
>>217702910
He always self-plagiarized. I was just reading through some wiki articles and saw how the same stupid plot points have been getting repeated in each of his series.

>File this one under "Sinatra-lite"— very lite! For readers too young to remember, former teen heart-throb James Darren starred in Gidgit in the late-50s and scored a Top-10 hit in 1961 with Goodbye Cruel World. His career was rejuvenated recently with his portrayal of swingin' lounge singer Vic Fontaine on the TV series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. This One's From The Heart attempts to cash in on the popularity of this show. While the handsome actor still looks damn good in a tux, Darren adds nothing new to this 17-track collection of classic American standards. His interpretations of songs so closely identified with Mr. Sinatra pale badly by comparison. Frank didn't just sing these tunes ---- he owned them! On a more positive note, Darren is backed by a host of precise studio pros and the arrangements by such "heavyweights" as Marty Paich and Alan Broadbent are predictably competent. Truthfully, why settle for second best when you can always enjoy the real deal? Pointless. **

That review was from All About Jazz. This one from JazzTimes is even more mean:

>Hollywood actor-director-singer James Darren’s collection of standards spins off from his stint playing holographic Vegas crooner Vic Fontaine on the TV series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Darren’s tentative, toneless entrance on the opening phrase of “The Best Is Yet to Come” sets the tone for seventeen tracks of ineptly sung, overdone material (“Night and Day,” “Satin Doll,” etc.) with lavish big band and string orchestra backings. The talents of a phalanx of topnotch arrangers and instrumentalists are squandered on this hopeless showcase for a performer whose rusty chops, stiff time and emotional vacuousness might be acceptable by holographic standards, but can’t survive comparison with Sinatra, Damone, Jones and other flesh-and-blood baritones. This one’s for the remainder bin.

>And don't mention inertial dampers
>don't mention the thing specifically introduced to answer this question
>>
>>217712789
You mean the thing that never entirely removes inertia, which is why the characters wobble all over the place when the ship is taking damage.
>>
>>217712958
What do you think the word "dampener" means exactly?
>>
Should I watch DS9? I've only ever seen one episode, and it was great, but someone told me it's basically the best episode so I don't want to watch the show if it never gets better than that.
>>
>>217712968
I dampened your mom's panties last night.
>>
>>217712968
What do you? There's no point bringing them up since they don't eliminate inertia, which still makes the crew move. That's the entire point being made.
>>
>>217712986
It's the most consistently high quality trek right after TNG, it's definitely worth watching. The characters might be the best in the entire franchise, there's not a single one that's truly terrible where you go "aw fuck, it's a [blank] episode"
>>
>>217713033
No, you retard. The point is to keep the crew from turning to fucking tomato paste the moment the ship accelerates you complete shit-for-brains dumbass. The fact that they "move a little" is what you call "within acceptable parameters."

>Should I watch [TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and/or ENT]
The answer is yes to all of these series, on the basis that everything from the Enterprise finale episode onward is multiple orders of magnitude worse than the original series and the 90s/00s Trek. Even Enterprise, probably regarded as the “worst” from a traditional ranking standpoint and at one point ranked off the golden list as “new trek,” still carries its head high enough to respect the audience (minus the very last episode, as many have expressed. The ENT finale is the only truly skippable episode). Even if DS9 were two times worse than what it is, it would still be good enough for me to recommend it, because it still wouldn’t be exponentially as dogshit as STD, PIC, SA, or any of the new slop that Paramount has pressed out of the dogshit factory.
Give yourself a quota of five or so episodes. Start from S1. Surely it will be enough to get comfortable with the characters and calibrate your expectations, and soon enough I am sure you’ll find yourself enjoying it

The problem with this dumb theory is that Kurtzman has been working on Trek before any Ellison involvement with Paramount. Kurtzman was already working on Star Trek with JJ Abrams in 2009 and 2013, then took over modern Trek starting in 2017, while David Ellison’s Skydance deal to buy Paramount didn’t happen until 2024

Elon is good friends with Ellison, I wish there could be a path where Musk talks to him behind closed doors and tells him to fix Trek. Why? It’s such a good story
Kid is traumatised and doesn’t want to confront his feelings about it. In the absence of his parents, he looks for adult guidance, and Data, being without emotional seems like the easy way out for the boy.
And it is mirrored by the fact that Data cannot see it for what it is.
The only flaw is, as always, Deann Troi being absent / entirely incompetent about the whole thing
