Watching the DS9 episode Rejoined, and it's made me wonder, could there be an emergency circumstance that would allow a Trill host to be passed from mother/father to child? How badly would that fuck up their psyche? They'd have crystal clear memories of their dad fucking them or their mom being fucked by them, not to mention the continued attraction that seems to come more from the slug than the host. The implications are deeply concerning.

I can't blame them for trying to do "both endings" where it took them 30 years to get back, but also got back right now in the finale

I thought it was a mega waste in storytelling to not do a whole season about "what happens when they get back" and they get all separated and wind up coming back together in the real-real finale
>>
>>217746380
your wrong because voyager is about the journey. stories have endings and voyagers is when they get home. the problem is they got home in 45 minutes instead of 4 or 5 episodes.
in universe they were only gone 7 years and they were in regular contact with the federation for half of that time. its not that big of a deal. there wouldnt be parades and formal reunions and shit.
>>

ds9 sucks but i can see why a lot of people like it
>>
Thinking about the timeline where Voyager takes 16 more years to get out of the Delta Quadrant.
How the fuck?
They established regular contact with Starfleet about 7 years into the journey. So they were still doing subspace Skype calls and Starfleet was like "don't worry we're still figuring out how to get you home"?
I just find it hard to imagine.

possibly but its not certain
phantom menace was trying a lot of new things, a lot of that didn't work, but it had the bones of something good and jarjar and annakin were some bullshit that kinda soured it. but the background plot actually gets better the more you look at it and think about it and on a rewatch you can think deeper on whats going on, it has merits. the hobbit was trying to be entertaining slop, but it was too sloppy, and not entertaining enough, but i think they tried, they should have made it classier like they did with lotr. at the end of the day i didnt get the impression they were trying to fail or trying to piss everyone off.

star treak learing academy is different. the most vapid and annoying possible woke slop bullshit characters that nobody could like. half the cast is fat lesbians, the men are all idiots and all the guidance comes from women femsplaining, every other male character is gay. a fat hologram with autism, why, who would program such an annoying creature. the inane plots, the hamfisted moralizing, nothing about it is thoughtful or requires thought. they decided on the woke messages they wanted to put out and built the episodes around that. each episode is just a vehicle to deliver those messages. messages we've heard a thousand times and dont give a fuck about. the details should serve the plot but the plot serves the details. details like gay klingon having 2 dads and 1 mom living together, not because it serves the plot or character, but because they wanted "representation" for alternative family structures and forced the plot to serve that.

and they had to know it was awful, that nobody would like it. we've had years of this wokeslop, its never gone down well, its never been popular, there is no audience for it. it alienates the people who actually watch star trek in service to virtue signallers who get off on calling you racist if you dont watch it. theyre not watching it either. they saw this coming. so why?
>>
>>217746545
Which Trek show has been your favorite so far?
>>
why is starfleet so fucking bad at combat
they get their asses hand to them in every single episode the ship or station or whatever gets boarded
they shoot one phaser beam then look around or some shit when they get shot
>hurr durr they're explorers first
motherfucker they can blow up stars if they want to there is no reason for them not to have advanced personal combat armor and firearms proficiency

>voyager is about the journey
that's wrong. that's the obvious thing as a smokescreen, but you need to dig deeper to find the real meaning.

Voyager was about "Family" and that missing season would have been about them realizing they all belonged together, no matter where they were going. (they would even go back and pick up Neelix from wherever they ditched him)
>>
>>217746048
So what if he is? Homos are good enough for Star Trek: Academy.

>>217746711

politics
getting everyone strapped to clap would be seen as an act of preparation for war by the other space powers and they would respond accordingly. half the reason starfleet gets away with being the big swinging dick in the alpha quadrant without it being perceived as threatening and triggering a hundred arms races across the galaxy, is stafleets absolute devotion to friendmaxxing. they can't train too hard for war or prepare too much for battle because everyone is watching and many civilizations will convince themselves starfleets preparing to attack and they need to attack first. but if starfleet plays it cool they can amass more power for defence overall without war then if they played up the defense angle from the start.

and personal combat armor aint gonna do shit against a phaser anyways.

yes, humanity was heavily traumatized by almost destroying itself in multiple wars. then heavily confidence boosted by managing to avoid repeating those mistakes for centuries. its part of humanities deeply ingrained cultural mindset that we will absolutely never let ourselves become warmongers ever again. humanity is more afraid of what it could become then any external enemy.

Fun is subjective, Picard for example finds fun in his own way like archeology and ships in bottles, etc. Very aristocratic and emotionally detached somewhat from the crew for professional reasons i.e. not joining in on poker night. Kirk is a lot more cowboy and up-front. Picard is more willing to lecture you and put on a performance of intellectual might and wit. they originally DID want to give Picard a wig to wear, like they cured baldness, but they countered with the argument that in the nice future, nobody would care if he was balding.

it's the same thing with [insert correct word for FAT] characters in Discovery. think about this argument: unlimited replicator food would make you fat, but future medicine would fix whatever was wrong with you, for being fat. such a future all of humanity would be like in Wall-E

there was literally NO reason Dax would not have piloted the Defiant like she always does. Bashir would have gone along, too.

Dukat magically appearing/disappearing from the station was ridiculous writing as well, why not drop off a small time-bomb while you're there? blow up the whole station? if it's so easy to pop in and dip out

I'll even concede the "magic don't need explaining" attack Dukat killed Jadzia with, b-but not the Tummy Worm, and make sure she lives long enough to gasp out a sad thing for Worf!

There's the old chestnut of making it out of whatever those storage barrels are made of. We see a lot of shots that get stopped by storage barrels or rocks or other inanimate objects that one could only infer would stop a bullet because they're made from some advanced space age material.

I suppose the argument would be that "if people wear body armour that's effective, people will just fire their weapons at a higher standard output."

growing up is realizing the trade federation was not actually some simple mindless bad guy, they had legitimate grievance, the core worlds were taxing the outer worlds to death. a blockade of naboo was a legitimate move and should have lead to peace talks but palpatine wanted war. the only real "bad guy" was palpatine. even dooku had legitimate concerns about a coming threat to the entire galaxy he had seen in visions but nobody took seriously, so he went off to amass power on his own only to be seduced by the dark side and betrayed by palpatine. and general grevious was only put there to commit atrocities so republic propaganda would have something to chew on, but the people of the confederacy had no reason to believe that propaganda was legit. it was actually all very deep and clever but its never spelled out so on a first watch or watching it while young you miss it. even the b1 battledroids, they were gimped on purpose so they wouldnt win too easily by giving them emotions like fear, they were done dirty by palp too. and an army of 8 year old clones, thats dirty. nobody was the good guy and only palpatine was the bad guy.

>>

neat
>>
>>217747961
Yeah, I see the point.

I never thought much about it, but I always kind of thought that ship to ship was a sort of hybrid of human and computer targeting - the person operating the weapons console would pick targets at their discretion or the commanding officer's orders, and the computer would lock on and select proper firing angle, vector, etc. And with torpedoes it'd be the same: the console operator picks the target and fires, and then the torpedoes have onboard tracking and targeting computers that course correct as much as they can.

With how often computers and such turn evil, it's probably not a good idea to 100% turn weapons control over to computers. And it does go against the idea of us wanting to improve ourselves to the best we can be and constantly improve; turning these kinds of things over to computers would go against that.

Yeah, ship combat specifically is also meant to evoke the Age of Sail. Which ties in well with the exploration element.

Anon you're trying way too hard. We've been making fun of that scene since the 90s.
>>
>>217750161
lol no it's not as creative or interesting as that

The story of "the burn" is that some alien kid cried really hard and it caused all of the dilithium (primary warp power source) all over the galaxy to explode at the same time (somehow) basically so he could try to turn Trek into some gay dystopia because all he knows how to write are superweapons as dramatic devices.
I'm not shitting you, that's the story. Also this destroyed the Klingon homeworld and turned them into hunter-gatherer refugees apparently because Kurtzman doesn't know what an interstellar empire is
>>
>>217750207
>Vulcans are refugees in the Kelvin timeline

>Klingons are refugees in the distant future
Fucking kek they had one idea 15 years ago and just keep recycling it.
>>
>>217750207
>dilithium (primary warp power source)
But that's not how it works at all.
Federation Warp Cores are powered by matter/anti-matter reactions, which are easily produced by using dilithium crystals. Even without dilithium powered reactors, you can still have warp technology. You just need a sufficiently powerful source of energy. The Phoenix didn't use dilithium, it was powered by a modified nuclear warhead.
Hell, the fucking Romulans use artificial quantum singularities as their power source.
>>
>>217750312
I know all of this. Kurtzman does not know any of this.

There are a ton of alternatives. Voyager comes home with experience in slipstream technology, with schematics for "trajector" space folding technology, and Borg transwarp technology.
He doesn't know that either.
The Romulan singularity drive is the biggest oversight -- literally powered their whole fucking fleet and obviously Starfleet had the specs.
>>
I just rewatched the Ds9 episode Defiant again. How the hell is this episode so highly rated. Nothing about it makes sense. Rikers actions make zero sense he abandons his mission after like 3 seconds after doing literally nothing. Then the Kardassians are insanely generous with their offer for the surrender. This episode fucking sucks.

>>
>>217751963
You have to admire Kurtzman et al. for that move. If only begrudgingly. As a v lazy person myself, respect. Those writers were faced with doing so much homework. They don't know Trek, they don't like it. And now having to research through all those decades worth of established Klingon lore. To write something that naturally fit comfortably within Star Trek canon. So, they looked at that task and said: 'fuck it. Let's just blow it all up. So we can do whatever we want, make it whatever we say it is. Make them all refugees again lol'.

You know how Enterprise altered their theme song a couple seasons in. Because it was so bad. They added that bossa nova guitar strum to make it a little more upbeat. What they should've done is do what The Wire did. Have the theme song be a different cover version each season. And that way the song can be more thematic for that season's story. Like, in teh Xindi war arc. The season's Faith of the Heart could've been sung in a grizzled way. Or, to fit the early-'00s era, aggressively covered by a Rap-Rock Nu-Metal Pop-Punk band? And the heartfelt last season would be this one:

https://youtu.be/pMNiVjN5e6I?si=qOzlGUDLTYzhb-AB&t=175

But, The Wire debuted a year latter than Enterprise. So they couldn't copy it. Because they hadn't seen them do it yet, sadly.

The worst part is that the original concept he pulled from had a better reason for impaired warp travel: fractured subspace due to use of Omega in a future Romulan-Federation war, one in which the Vulcans pulled out of the Federation because they were still negotiating unification.
