To the anon that suggested Reset and Perfect and Casual last week. Also finished Pursuit of Jade. Soon to start Make a Wish. Many thanks to you. I must be suffering from PTSkDrama. Watching the cdramas, all different genres, I kept having symptoms of an anxiety attack, expecting typical kdrama boggie men to jump out and fuck it all up. Thank you again

>Im Ji Yeon transforms into an infamous Joseon villainess in 'My Royal Nemesis'
>My Royal Nemesis follows a notorious villainess from the Joseon era who finds herself in the body of an unknown actress, Shin Seo Ri (Im Ji Yeon), after being given poison, and Cha Se Gye (Heo Nam Jun), a ruthless chaebol.
>In the drama, Kang Dan Sim is a woman with a temperament such that if she is mocked, she spits in contempt, and if she is slandered, she repays in full. Though of low birth, she rises to the position of Royal Concubine, becoming a notorious villainess in the history of Joseon.
>The stills capture Dan Sim after receiving sahyak (poison ordered by the king). Wearing a composed expression as she emerges from the palace, Dan Sim then erupts in fury upon seeing the prepared poison. Kneeling on the ground, she glares upward with a murderous, blazing gaze before letting a tear of deep resentment fall.
>My Royal Nemesis is set to premiere on May 8. The K-drama will be available to stream on Netflix. Stay tuned!

SBS does well with these kinds of characters so it'll probably be entertaining at least. The korean title is better though imo - Brave New World (or some such). Kinda tired of the "My [whatever]" naming scheme for the english titles. We already had a My Dearest Nemesis last year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
Republic of Korea
Emergency Decree No. 2026-04: "Framework for the Protection of Korean Dramatic Arts from Foreign Interference"
SEOUL — In a rare joint session convened this morning at the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced sweeping new regulations targeting foreign streaming platforms operating within the Republic of Korea, effective immediately.
The decree, signed by Minister Park Bo-gyoon and approved by the National Assembly's Culture Committee, mandates a phased reduction of foreign ownership in Korean-original content production, caps on international executive veto power over creative decisions, and the establishment of a Korean Dramatic Integrity Review Board with binding authority over all streaming platforms seeking to operate in the domestic market.
"We have watched silently as our stories were translated into algorithms," Minister Park said in his opening address. "We have observed as sixteen episodes became eight. As slow confessions became graphic violence. As the unique texture of Korean emotion—the jeong, the han, the longing that requires no translation—was sanded down for 'global palatability.' This ends today."
>>
File: 1774187509350138.jpg (27 KB)
27 KB JPG
>>219556017
The announcement was met with immediate reaction from industry figures, though most spoke anonymously due to ongoing contractual relationships with foreign platforms.
"This is what we've needed for a decade," one veteran producer said. "They treated our writers like content farmers. 'More action here. Less talking here. Can she be pregnant? Pregnancy tests well in Brazil.' We became assembly lines for global content, not storytellers."
Another, more cautious voice emerged from a major studio. "The platforms brought money. They brought global audiences. We can't pretend otherwise. But they also brought a kind of... extraction. They took our talent, our IP, our cultural capital, and gave us back notes written by people who had never even eaten jjajangmyeon."
"For twenty years, we exported our culture. For the last five, we watched it be returned to us—edited, condensed, and flattened. No longer. The Korean drama is not a template. It is not a genre. It is not 'prestige television' with different faces. It is a way of seeing the world that took generations to build. And we will not apologize for protecting it."
He paused.
"The West taught us that a story must move. We remember that a story must also stay. In the silence between words. In the hand that does not yet touch. In the sixteenth episode, when they finally say what they have meant since the first."

Just, as recommended in a previous thread, watched season 1 and 2.
I liked it, the fights were pretty amazing and the main characters very likable but there was a clear point of inflection when Kim Sae-ron left the show, and the later episodes of season 1 were kinda anticlimatic.
Thanks for the recommendation.

So far, the characters are taken seriously, and the female characters are gorgeous and sexy without being portrayed as bumbling idiots.(by that i just mean regulated to the background)
It slightly different then what Chinese shows do when it comes to cultivation world, since this is a story about hunters.
But in all honesty, so far the storyteller or writer seems to know what kind of story he’s trying to tell without being too clichéd in his approach.
I though it would be another boring romance, but the way the characters are alound to flirt and still hold back is fun,So far, the writer is showing great restraint and taking his time to present his case, which I really enjoy.
Enjoying the way the story is been delivered so far

Of course, there's even 70s dramas like Chief Inspector (related to Chief Detective 1958 that aired in 2024). Some guy on d-addicts was/is doing eng sub for some 80s historicals like the first part of 500 Years of Joseon and the 1981 Jang Hee Bin (with a young Lee Mi-sook). Don't think he's finished either yet though

Not really. Even most post-2020 kdramas are regular whatever dramas.
>its not before kdrama blew up globally
By this, I am assuming you mean Squid Games. And it's definitely the biggest blow up thus far. But it could only rise to this scale because it had foundation from previous international hits like Winter Sonata, Boys over Flowers, Secret Garden, My Love From the Stars, Descendants of the Sun, etc. And older dramas may seem typical when viewed through today's lens, but there's a lot of foundational dramas that shaped how kdramas look now, especially if you go back into the 90s with titles like Jealousy and Sandglass.
What you are likely perceiving is the shift from most dramas being made on the fly as they were broadcast to most dramas being completed before they aired and the entrance of Netflix/Disney+ to the fold. Older dramas didn't lack ambition or effort, they lacked budget and time.

The major plot point is the nemesis of the ML attempts to destroy him. The nemesis found a partner, the wife of the ML, that also wanted to destroy her husband. A gun for hire, a poor misused bottom feeder, has an awakening (love) while participating in the take down, and tells the ML what is up. Fucking was not the capital B betrayal but part of it.
>>
>>
I stand corrected on my analysis of Perfect and Casual. Halfway through and the FL is working late and allowing another man to feed her and treat her like a gf. Its made the ML jealous and he has to get physically between her and the other man to cock block (not a good look and is pathetic) or the interaction between the FL and the other guy would be more intimate. I noticed as she sat on a hospital bed the other man sat next to her and gave her a drink which she held in her lap. The other man reached into her lap to retrieve the drink. These two have become close quick. Fuckin cuck in cdrama too

Not watching so idk the context but I can't imagine there'd be much to justify this outside the car getting immediately obliterated within 1 sec of showing up. They're even sponsored by Mercedes-benz and probably had Disney+ bux to use during filming (as opposed to being picked up after production is done), why did they need to do this shit
>>
>>219595517
Few are as bad as This is my first life.
I won't abandon but I am disappointed. I also realized the ML is less than can be desired but she went from love to this giggling and texting day and night and "working late" but the conversation was personal and she gets busted late outside work and she and the other guy headed for a late dinner. The girl is flirting with this new guy something she never has with the ML.
Making it worse is the ML feels like he has to show up and take the other guys jacket off of her, tag along to dinner as she and the other guy doing their back and forth and trying to run him off at hospital catching them sitting together close on the bed.

Typical romantic line. She has biggest fat crush for 2ml but never confess her feelings no matter what. She has many many chances to do that. We never know reason behind it. ML is her backup option. If 2ml still alive she would've never look at ml.
This would be more refreshing if main characters doesn't have loveline. Its simply unnecessary.
Another thing we need to turn blind eye to characters behavior at times especially fl and ml. Logics goes for a toss.
Personally i prefered ml. I thought why tf she had crush on 2ml and that it was unnecessary cliche and annoying

There are already a bunch of real Mercedes in the scene, and IU's entrance is supposed to one up them all with her supercar.
Maybe they couldn't get Mercedes to give them an actual supercar that would do it and they couldn't rent one from a different brand either for obvious reason.
It's extra weird because the car is very obviously a Bugatti with a blank logo.
Even Google matches every angle of ot with the Bugatti Tourbillon Equipe Pur Sang, except all the details are off.

Suppose it makes sense that Mercedes wouldn't like it if they showed off an actual car design mogging their own but leaving the obvious Bugatti oval almost defeats the point. Even cheap ass Doctor Shin can slap on some fake logos on their budget fancy cars, but perhaps that's too difficult when the car some AI amalgamation
And if that's supposed to be the same car as the first screenshot, it's not even consistent (unless I am car blind). Very odd all around.

It could just be them testing the waters. Like the show's got enough profile to attract a good number of viewers but it's probably not a high stakes project so they want to see how much they can get away with before people complain.

>And if that's supposed to be the same car as the first screenshot, it's not even consistent (unless I am car blind). Very odd all around.
It's just bad 3DCG.
The front grill looks fucked up because they gave the internal parts of the car body perfect mirror-like reflections instead of a carbon fiber finish, and the rest of the geometry is warped due to lens distortion simulation.

probably 60 / 40 % for me, aka I don't care as long as it's good and made with care by intelligent people who respect me as a viewer, but there's a slight imbalance towards thriller for what's good in the sense that there is a bit more tendency to lazily slop it up when producing romances.
that said the real idiots here are the 100 / 0 and 0 / 100; I don't know about the former (there's "men shouldn't watch romance"' schizo but i think he's just trolling), but we have at least one very visible example of the later and he's clearly the dumbest of us all by a mile (he's gonna be forced to watch a thriller later this month, prepare for the galactic cope).
