Yes, A-Life now works with enemies doing offline stuff and expanding territorial control. There still is a spawner that spawns shit within the player bubble, but the spawns are triggered from much further away and not just behind you. There also is a mod that removes the spawner if you so desire.

1.7 patch caused about 20% performance increase. The game runs fine for me, but I'm playing on 1080p with 7800X3D / 4070 Ti.

It just feels like I'm just running between missions with not much going on, like I get a new mission 500-700m away, run to it, maybe I'll shoot a boar or dogs along the way. But like...where's the fighting? I feel like I'm barely getting combat, when I snuck into the military base I got to shoot some guys and was like hell yeah, but it's over so soon and I'm back to just running around.
In SoC you start out raiding a bandit camp, to fighting military by the bridge, then all the bandits in garbage. Like I want to kill shit and stalker 2 isn't letting me

I like the map itself. The way it's populated is balls, though. The "lair" system sounds good on paper but it's bugged to shit and/or tuned way wrong. The spawn bubble and director also don't help. It all feels fake. Fake frames, fake enemies, fake Stalker game.

I'd rather play misery-like mods than S2 any day. Nu-GSC fucking sucks. Hoarding crap to fix broken guns is more fun than playing farcry with a stalker skin. The best part about the OG games is that they provided assets for modders to work with. Also they lied about what S2 would offer in the prerelease trailers but I guess that's industry standard now huh

I’ve been playing since christmas and haven’t experienced any performance issues. 1440p with almost everything on epic using a 7800X3D / RX 7800 XT. in roughly 70 hours I’ve only had a few questionable encounters where enemy groups I hadn’t noticed suddenly appeared nearby. either I missed them or the game spawned them in. aside from that, I’m enjoying the game a lot. I don’t use any mods and I’ve disabled all the annoying UI elements except for health and ammo. the balancing feels very good to me and the progression from hobo to a well equipped soldier is surprisingly well executed. there are some disappointing aspects such as the missing low crouch or the simplified arena, but the game is currently in a solid state and could become a masterpiece with more updates and mods.

Look up the Realistic Death animation mods and the blood fx mod, highly recommend them. The death animation mods just adds some more animations to how enemies die when you shoot them, and has a nice ragdoll effect where they just drop when you headshot them, helps with how in vanilla 2 you'll see the the same headshot animation over and over and over
The blood fx overhaul just adds cool blood effects, like dynamic blood pools under enemies when you kill them, like if you shoot a guy in the head you'll actually see blood dripping from the wound and shit. It's cool
ALSO, if you find enemies are top aim botty, which I did, try Malkanes better combat mod. Gives NPCs a dispersion effect like the player at medium to long range so they aren't just laser beaming you

What do you mean by PDA task system? The mod mentioned here >>555125823 features a module that unlocks the side quests given by traders so that they are more like the repeatable tasks from ShoC, but I don't know if that particular module can be used alone (ie without the freeplay module).
There's also a multiplier for side quest reward money in the default S2 difficulty config file but you may need to edit that yourself if someone hasn't already uploaded such a mod.

Common complaint. It's a variety blend of issues, that snowball into it feeling bad. Stamina is very small, and forces you to chug water/energy drinks. Those things also have weight and that weight adds up, and the stamina problem gets worse with more weight so you can't just hoard a 50 stack of energy drinks.
The biggest issue is a-life still doesn't work properly. Probably because of the open world. Pretty much the extent of it "working" now is patrols, which definitely generate within a radius of your presence in the world, generate and potentially intersect with like dogs or something causing a minor fight. It doesn't feel as "alive" as in the other games. I've never seen factions take and occupy territory, either. I've even cleared out a little ramshackle of bandits, and had a group of 3 loners stumble upon me mid-fight. Instead of taking the little area the bandits were nestled in, they continued on.

Depends. Some missions you will get waves spawned on you and it feels frustrating. Some encounters in general are clearly scripted. I came upon a controller at one point, and had a bunch of zombies out of nowhere start coming up a stairwell I had just seen to be clear. This wasn't a story mission, or even a side mission, just an area I was exploring. Pulled me straight out of the experience, it's like having a movie pan so far over you see all the lighting and cameras and realize you're watching a movie.

Yes. Artifact hunting is super gay in Stalker 2, especially because of that one bubble anomaly that sucks you in and implodes you. Shit despawns for about 0.3 seconds after a bolt, and never fails to get me as I'm making a run for it.

The spawner does still exist, but there definitely are NPCs generated from offline there. I once ran back from far away to the same area several times and got jumped by a single Ward patrol wandering around the same bridge.
Also, there are definitely offline battles with NPCs looting shit from offline. I found a lot of corpses with multiple large guns and stuff on them.
Can't say much for lair takeovers, though, because I didn't concentrate on them.

I had more issues with electric anomalies that instakill you. I haven't found the bubble to be that much of a problem. Also, I think artifact hunting is as fun as ever. Perhaps it would've been better for health management for artifacts to not spawn precisely inside anomalies, but that's a minor complaint.

It's the hair man, hair seems to tank fps there because you have so many people in that area and it's rendering all their hair at once. Finished Winter Sniper. A solid, no-nonsense mod which felt like a free DLC for CoP. Took me 2.9 hours to finish the questline with some backtracking. Freeplay is available but there's only one map. It's good if you're like me and speedrun through the Pripyat section in CoP and want an opportunity to explore it more thoroughly.

It's because most people are almost solely pre-SIRCAA and people bee lining from story objective to story objective. There's nothing particularly wrong with that, but the game doesn't really tie a bow on it's features until you're at your route's point of no return, which in turn has more to do with how the open world isn't divided into areas by difficulty, but is rather a vehicle for larger shifts in Stalker demographics and mutant lair behaviour. Swamp gets populated by Stalkers only after your visit, Freedom / Duty won't start roaming out of their base proximities until you're Yaniv bound (and there is likely a whole slew of side-quests and faction mechanics that were cut from this particular point in the game) and so much more. I honestly blame some of these issues with the devs really not taking the time for the player to engage with the rest of the game after you're heading towards the ending most of this stuff is largely just missed, because visiting the other maps outside the northern areas is largely tied to side quests. I'm pretty sure releasing DLC that runs parallel with the main story can easily fix these issues, but you'll still have a ton of people whining about the world feeling empty for the first 10 hours or so.

Personally I've always liked the misery elements like fixing broken guns and suits. Also the zone is only interesting to me as freeplay. I enjoy the gameplay loop of finding some artefacts, doing some quests and then chilling at the base, fixing shit up with all the stuff you found. Also being a random stalker is more immersive to me then some super important story guy. To each their own man.

Honestly sounds like it would satisfy both crowds. Keep it casual and fun to play, like STALKER vanilla and Arc, none of that healing body parts or loading bullets into mags nonsense from EFT. There is so much to work with. You could even have Scavs along with the mutants and the scavs would be Military and Monolith. They could even sell MTX with faction based cosmetics. Fuck I just want a fun multiplayer experience in the zone so fucking badly bros. Fuck all this "CoP multiplayer co-op" shit. I don't want to run through these piss easy vanilla games with co-op.

Once you get hit by either bullet or mutant, the camera spins around so violently that it's almost impossible to recover. Whoever thought this was a good design mechanic is crazy. The original AMK 1.4.0 mechanic where your head jerks to one side and perhaps you drop your weapon was at least recoverable. This I feel isn't. Took me 2.9 hours to finish the questline with some backtracking.
I remember being amazed with the outdoor levels and general setting. You would have to go through a bunch of anomalous zones and kill/not piss off packs of dogs, bloodsuckers etc. to extract with an artifact.

In Clear Sky you can upgrade and repair weapons and gear, which means with some gear you can upgrade additional weight to carry more stuff. You can still only equip a pistol and primary, and headshots are still important. CS is worth playing once if you overall liked SoC just for the experience.

The performance right now after a year of patches isn't that bad, definitely not stellar, but even lower-end machines can usually run it fairly stable at 60 FPS at 1080p after some tweakin, albeit with FPS dips at certain locations and action sequences. The 3070 computer does run recent games well, just not stalker 2, because stalker 2 is unoptimized and UE5 is shit.
It runs enshrouded fine, it ran total war warhammer 3 fine, it runs icarus fine, it runs the outer worlds 2 fine.
My computer with a 4090 and 9800X3D can't get a consistent 120fps in stalker 2, it almost never reaches 120 in the first place, and it often gets 1% lows ranging from the 40's to the 10's.

I always liked that in stalker, upgrading your gear actually matters as the improvements in your survivability, damage, accuracy etc. is noticable across the playthrough.
Triggers that deep desire to explore and causes excitement when the player comes across something new, even if he ends up not liking the new piece of gear it still satisfies the natural sense of curiosity.
This is what in my opinion many mods get wrong, one of the practices that kill my enjoyment is finding out that early/starting guns are capable of dealing with most of the enemies with impunity. I don't say starting arsenal should be abysmally dogshit, but if a mod allows me to effortlessly snipe enemies with pmm or viper 5 (without extensive upgrades at least) or kill chimera with 3-4 shots from double-barrel for example, then why should I bother even looking for better gear if I can wipe everything with this murder hobo kit.
For me trivializing the aspect of progression goes into the "depriving stalker of its identity" territory.

I'd say the same about A-Life Director (aka the bubble spawner) and certain scripted spawns, they just enhance the experience. Without the Director the Zone feels very empty, and GSC definitely uses scripting well to create unique moments. The fucking swamp chimera made me shit my pants and hide inside the glass shard anomaly.

We loved the jank, because it was an expression of unrealized potential. Of developers pushing the edge of what they could manage with limited recources. It was a symptom of dreaming larger, then what the material conditions allowed.
The original OLR design docs might reasonably be called the most ambitious gaming project of their time.
What we see in S2 can in no way be compared to this. They had the recources and their scope is comparitavely limited. Still they pushed a buggy product.

I've been browsing it for about a year and the content is generally pretty decent. Some pretty good shitposting over there too, but the general consensus from the posters there is that s2 sucks and only the original games get discusses.
If anyone wants to migrate over, I'm all for it, but posts will probably need to be translated into Russian first.

Also of interest: When someone tries to make another /sg/, e.g. one without that guy's forced memes, it gets deleted. Check the catalog, and there are upwards of four threads active at a time for multiple gacha generals as they don't wait until page 10 to make a new thread. Somehow that's ok, but trying to dodge spambots and raids is a no-go.

Holy shit why didn't I do this sooner, the game feels way more organic when you can actually buy ammo for relatively cheap sell stuff back to traders for a fair price, and if you turn the mission rewards down low the economy just feels way more balanced suddenly you're not racing around doing shitty radiant missions to make a fat pile of cash to buy one gun you can do a few missions and sell some parts and other stuff and have enough to buy a gun or some low tier armor it just feels like actual stalker not an artificially inflated broken economy and now suddenly the cash you find on stalkers also makes a decent difference too because again each rubble goes further.
