Gotta agree, having a large surface and underground in one map would ultimately lead to problems. The concept was cool of course, but the underground, while atmospheric, feels unrefined and chaotic.
I like both versions of Yantar, but would prefer build version over the release one still. To be frank I think combining build Yantar with retail version of x-16 (as separate level still) would create one of the most memorable set-pieces in STALKER series.

OLR 2.5 or Vector of Alienation, if you want actual game with some context which will enhence the experience. Any build with with buildo yantar if exploration and curiosity about how things came to be is enough for you, although I would look for later, more refined versions if you were to choose this path(don't).

My optimum load out in stalker is:
MP5SD6 - Mutants and CQC
Strelok's SIG - Medium and Long distance armored targets
I've tried shotguns, ump-45, high powered scoped rifles etc. and nothing feels as versatile as this combo you just end up with either something more niche for mutants and useless everywhere else or great at long range and harder to use at medium range if you go for more powerful scoped rilfes / VSS. SCAR I guess is also decent, but the ammo is more scarce so would rather stick with 5.56.

Even more bizzare is that Hydra-shock has armor penetration when it's suppose to be a hollow point round? Is that a bug did they get the penetration values the wrong way round? Sure it won't penetrate as much as 9mm but it should still penetrate.

I finally got to Yanov on Master. Sight for sore eyes, I tell you what. I've still been using the predator and other early gear because it's way cheaper to repair and keep maintained. Hopefully with being able to get the wear and tear upgrades for the kharod and the saiga I can finally use those.

My first playthrough. I am enjoying it. I am probably mid-late game. I've just made it to Rostok.
I think my biggest issue is a-life. It ranges from either devoid of life at all to absolute pandemonium from the amount of shit it spawns in. I was recently near Malachite, and I was exploring this little fenced in refinery area. I had the ward, who I am hostile to, randomly show up. Not sure if they were already there or what, but then a duty patrol rolls in, and what I am assuming was bandits, and snorks. I don't know who was already there, and who spawned in. No idea. But the cherry on top was an emission hit, and everyone stopped what they were doing and ran for the only building in the entire industrial graveyard we were in that the game certified as "safe". I couldn't see shit because I'm too cheap to buy NVGs. All I heard was shooting and screaming. When all was said and done, I was the last man standing. I don't know what happened.

Realistically how many stalkers would be in the Zone? A thousand? I feel like the number of people entering the Zone every day would be less than the folks getting wasted by anomalies and mutants, especially since the games are like two decades into the Zone's creation. The Faction Wars are over, most of them were exhausted in it, Duty is down to dozens of men from the looks of things and Freedom maybe has a hundred left. Ward is the only big one since they're sanctioned and they probably have about two hundred spread around the southern zone. One thing I did like about anomaly was that you could modify the pops of stalkers and mutants alike. I had stalkers to .5 and mutants cranked all the way up. Makes it feel more feral. You see other stalkers fighting for their lives more, too.

Stalker 2, pretty much has a weapon set for every playstyle so the only challenge is really the mutants, anomalies and emissions.
My only criticism of the new game is they should have focused more on character building and meaningful missions that affect the zone.

The LOD that is in OT is the various detail sliders. Whatever you set it to, all items in the game tied to that setting are rendered at the same quality no matter the distance. You're telling me people really haven't used the binoculars that get whined about being missing from S2 so often and noticed faraway items are exactly the same quality as what's next to them? There's no LOD pop-in, no change in visual fidelity based on distance to object, it's not there.

With an AK instead of the Kharod an excursion usually cost me about 5k in repairs when it was all said and done. Between my mission payouts and loot scrapping I'd still make about 7-10k in profits between excursions with that setup. The spas was almost as much as everything else in repairs so I shelved it, same with the saiga. We'll see how the kharod does.

I'm far from glazing STALKER 2, I find myself on the criticizing side of community more often to be honest, but the one thing I that nu-GSC got right are the visuals and style which are pretty close to the originals. From environments to gear, including old and even new armors, they just feel like they belong in this world with the original roster. Few could have done it better imo.

Yep, I had the same impression for most of my playthrough.

World is currently the second of my biggest grips, I will spare myself writing another rant about it which I shared with too many of my friends right now. But the first grip is the retarded story with obnoxious "fan service", I was ready for some retcons and corrections, after such a long time they are bound to happen, but holy fuck out of all the people who were on the team the ones which CLEARLY didn't play original games turned out to be writers. They even had me hooked, but after SIRCAA they basically said fuck it and decided to burn their new ideas and old lore altogether. What a bunch of hacks holy shit I will never get over it. I might enjoy S2 after dozens of patches, hell I even enjoyed it on release thanks to all the slavjank mods I played over the years which desensitized me, but until they won't fix the story (hopefully in the upcoming expansions) I will never talk about it in context of real continuation. S2 story currently is not canon for me.
