i'm on an original htc vive. it looks like the quest 3 is my best option according to op but it seems like there's no perfect upgrade.
how big a difference in tracking and latency is going from the direct link and the lightboxes of my vive to the airlink (or whatever it's called) and the camera tracking that the quest 3 use?
>>
>>555919987
I don't really think there's a big difference in tracking quality at this point. Being tracked by the headset means you can lose tracking over your head and behind you, but that's not generally a problem.
Latency is going to depend on your setup (you want a decent 6E dedicated router if you're going wireless) and how sensitive you are to it, I personally don't think it's really a problem unless you're playing rhythm games all the time.
That being said, you might as well just wait a little longer and see how the Steam Frame is at this point since it's basically looking to be a better Quest 3 with some extras included.

it does it naturally and unintrusively on it's own from your normal head movements. It might ask to look down when you haven't been glancing down and it detected major drift, but that basically never happens.
meanwhile slime users keep being visibly annoyed and keep tapping their chest trackers, meanwhile hybrid calibration users keep being being visibly annoyed and you can see them being slanted from playspace drifts...

all I do is play seated games. I am somewhat interested in messing with standing games if they are good, like I've been wanting to try Alyx for years but been putting it off because the vive controls I assume will ruin the experience. but things like beat saber don't interest me.
I use my headset for playing games like the resident evil remakes or alien isolation with vr mod, and also vr porn. pretty much nothing else. I mostly just want a resolution bump. I like how the tracking on the vive just works perfectly with no issues. I don't know what it's like to have problems with camera tracking it sounds annoying but i've never owned another headset so I was wondering how it compares. I am intrigued with the concept of passthrough vr porn, which the vive cannot do.

Then the quest 3 will be fine. Keep in mind that smooth wireless PCVR takes some investment in some wifi infrastructure for smooth wireless. If you can wait I kinda want to recommend waiting for the frame, but it'll be twice the price if you're budget constrained.

Valve seems to believe that they got wireless working so well you don't need the uncompressed video stream. Did they? Maybe. They built the tech for it; a specialized low latency wifi connection plus foveated streaming that only shows you high quality video where you're actually looking. Does it work? Valve seems to think so.

I wanted OLED, so yes it's disappointing. That said I care more about having a headset that just werks with linux and no cuckbook spyware so I'll overlook it. Maybe it'll sell enough to get an OLED revision like the 'eck, or an OLED mod.

You don't get it bro I HAVE to get into VR to see my surroundings in perfect detail and color. Who the fuck wears a VR headset for the actual rendered content? I just want to see my surroundings as if I wasn't wearing one at all.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>555942231
That's pretty cool and absolutely sufficient for purposes. Only other time it gets used is when I'm setting up my vr stuff while the headset connects to the pc. Sometimes I use the pc and I imagine I won't be able to see the screen from an ir only camera.
>>
>>
>>555940680
If you want to play flat games on a big virtual screen, it's nice to be able to see everything like where your drink is instead of fumbling around for it, and while B&W passthrough will work for that, it'll be ugly as shit

First phase of the mahjong tournament just ended, here's the results.
The bracket phase starts next Tuesday (just so that people can double check if all scores are correctly reported in the sheets); team 50/50 and /jong/ skip the first phase due to their lead, while getting a huge amount of shield (100 and 90 respectively).

Me.
To be honest though I'm more concerned about the resolution/quality of the passthrough rather than the lack of color. There doesn't seem to have been any comment on how good/bad the passthrough cameras are. Hopefully they're more like Quest 3 levels of decent and not Quest Pro levels of horrendous

>>555940680
I'd use it if it didn't take a minute to activate, throw errors 90% of the time, not even fill the FOV, and have horrible positional distortion, as is the case on the Index. Being able to instantly see the real world would be useful, but anything less than that is going to lose to just lifting the headset up.
>>
>>555954616
Q3 double tap the side of the headset to activate passthrough should be an industry standard. It was fucking amazing to be able to quickly hop back to the real world and then back into whatever without fiddling with things.
>>
>>555949853
Have you ever used b&w filter for your devices? I did on phone an PC to remind me to take a pause or stop and it worked fine, but if for whatever reason the colors would come back again I was even more attracted to it. I think the game will "pop out" more when contrasted with the b&w background and make you more likely to keep playing. Maybe they're employing the same old slot machines tactics.

If you're going to actually play vr games just get a Q3 and download steamlink. If you're going to be a tranny in vrchat get an index. Those are the two best options so far. Anything else will have more caveats than benefits. If you're not specifically looking for that one thing a different option does better or has extra then you won't be able to cope hard enough with the fact that it's the only choice. Face tracking capable headsets for example are either worse or way over priced compared to these two options.

I just like that the index has direct link to the gpu with hdmi/display port and better tracking with the lightboxes I already have. am I placing too much value on that? seems like a big tradeoff.
>>
>>555966745
Would you rather watch a 4k video on a 240p display, or a 1080p video on a 1440p display? Quest tracking of the HMD is at least good, if not better, then HMD tracking of the Index, and if you really want to use Knuckles with your Quest, all it takes is buying and mounting a Vive tracker to to your Quest for continuous calibration. If you absolutely insist on a cable, either the Bigshit 2 or one of the funny meme Pimax sim headsets is what you should be looking at, but there's a reason people don't suggest either of those.

these are songs that I have composed (sung) to represent my emotions (feelings) in the Forest Temple. The first one is a spooky echoing vibe that represents the haunting melodies of the Forest Temple. It evokes feelings of emotion like fear and ominousness of being lost in the forest. The second one is a small sample that is meant to evoke fright. The growling is a fearsome instrument that captures the soul and gives a very terrifying vibe. The third one is a upbeat strange funky beat that is more lighthearted than the first two compositions. It is meant to be taken lightly and doesn't quite evoke feelings of fear and more feelings of joy and impishness.

The cable isn't wired in the headset, just the halo strap, you can unplug it. There's parts sold online since the connector is known. Not cheap but a dead cable out of warranty won't brick the PSVR2, just cost a lot. Same as index.
>>
>>
>>556008968
Its a proprietary cable and you need to disassemble half of the HMD to disconnect it. Sony doesn't sell replacements, there is no pinouts available. If its dead, unless you are want to reverse engineer the connector your only option is buying new psvr2 or hope Sony accepts yours for repairs.

I have the money for a 5090 and a dream to play through Cyberpunk 2077 on a Pimax again, probably also some other games like Ace Combat 7 (8 once it comes out), Resident Evils, Half Life etc.
Worth it? I'm upgrading since I need a good PC for work anyway and my 1080 is starting to show its age, plus I suspect major hardware improvements will probably halt due to AI investments and PS6 not coming for a while. I never used VR before (aside from a few times when my sister let me use an Oculus and I know that I most likely won't have any major nausea, I don't give a fuck about wagglan and motion controls, I'm fine with just "being there" and moving with my head but aiming/playing with mouse and keyboard).
What do you guys think?
>>
>>556025784
>Pimax
Don't get a pimax. Not a single headset is worth it.
PS2VR (with PC adapter box) is better. The price is way better at least. It's not perfect though.
A beyond 2 is probably the next best although it's way more money.
After that I'd consider waiting for the frame.

I made the mistake of getting the Pimax Crystal Lite because the specs seemed good on paper. As always, the retarded Pimax middleware ruins it. The HMD eats up 9-10 GB of VRAM without running a video game. If you try to use your lighthouse controllers with it they'll always have shit tracking and fly off to nowhere for no reason. It's also massive and bulky. If you don't already have a 5090, 4090, or 7900 and play mainly seated sim games, don't bother. A shame too, because the display and optics are really good.

Praying the bubble pops soon and you can get it for cheaper, but one of the other guys picked up a 5090 this week and is pretty happy with it. With a rig like that a cheap racing wheel may interest you as well, wasn't into racing games before having VR and now I can't stop playing (and crashing in) dirt rally 2. Project: Wingman is another good Ace-Combat-Like with VR support, definitely enjoyed the plot more than AC7.
Some others have had a couple issues with their BSB/BSB2 so it can be a bit of a dice roll, though misprints in the facial interface are quicker to rectify.
>>
>>
>>556026839
5090 is worth it. It excels on super high resolutions youd want in vr, due to massive vram bandwith. If you want lighthouse tracking the only real contestant today is the Beyond 2, but even it has its problems with end to end clarity, sample and hold screens (instead of strobed), low brightness and fov.
Pimax are good on paper but their software can be quite buggy and annoying, they even hijack and reimplement lighthouse tracking, worse than native steamvr implementation.
PSVR2 is pretty good, but cable is not replaceable, and it WILL wear out.
Sadly, the best you can get as a starter user is Pico 4 Ultra (with nice cheap pico trackers for vrchat fbt), basically the same but zucced Quest 3, or wait 2 more weeks and get Steam Frame.
I personally use Vive Pro 2, but its controversial enough, you'll love it for central high resolution and clarity, or hate it for overall bulkiness and old design. But I wouldn't recomend it today.

You have NO IDEA what you're talking about. Aiming with mouse and moving with keyboard in VR is EXTREMELY ass. Why do that when you can just grab the gun and aim it? When you can just stick to move? You feel there when your floor is at correct heigh, you stand there and can move around and interact with the world. You'll understand after playing your first vr game, most likely Alyx.
Cockpit games very good too in vr. Racing, flying, yea, there is no point playing cockpit games in flat anymore vr is the optimal way to play them.

I can't comment on the headsets as right now I only have a Reverb G2 and a PSVR2 and I'm yet to buy a premium one, but I can vouch for the 5090. It's a monster of a card for VR because of its VRAM. For flat gaming it's a relatively normal gen-on-gen upgrade over the 4090 (well, it's really a 4090 Titan specs-wise), but for VR with higher res headsets the difference is noticeable, even if not really $1000 price difference noticeable.
But yeah, it only makes sense if you really do have the money for it while also having enough to upgrade the rest of your PC and buy enough RAM. The thing is ridiculously expensive even despite being the best VR card you can realistically buy.

I like mine well enough as a second headset for sim stuff, but I don't really use it for anything else.

Is it really so bad if you don't have motion controls? I get that it's going to be much better with them, but I doubt it's completely unplayable without them? I can image it's going to be disorienting but it probably depends heavily on what you're expecting.

Off topic. ERP between two individuals of any sex is straight as long as it's two girl avatars, and whether or not those girls have dicks is irrelevant. A man going for a woman in a female avatar is actually gayer than going tor a man in a female avatar since it's just a meaningless personality debuff whose only purpose is virtue signaling- an inherently feminine activity. The bottom line is that if you still feel straight, you're obviously straight. Most "gays" here just want special snowflake points even though they're really just straights in denial. I see my bro as a girl, therefore I'm straight.
So stay on topic and maybe talk about straight sex.

You CAN NOT play vr games without motion controlls, they are not made for keyboard and mouse, they do nothing on mouse or keyboard inputs. Proper VR mods use vr controllers too. Only a few weird mods use keyboard/gamepad input in vr, and nobody plays them, everyone thinks they are shit.

The fact that the mod is trash is what "filters" people. It's pretty much just retards with no VR experience that think it'll be good.
>>556034559
Yes, not having motion controls is generally bad for anything that isn't a cockpit game.
What makes this even worse though is that aiming and looking around are still tied together. You're not getting VR freelook while you play the game, you're playing with the UI and reticle attached to your face.
On top of that, it uses alternate eye rendering instead of properly rendering the game for VR so on top of the other issues with that, your framerate is effectively halved.

Through flower's colorway, Void sees the day
Sense of vision is no longer dellusional
Once planted it is now central
On Void's back the empty, the flat red lake
Ahead waves shake, there lies a deep blue sea
Behind was a time, so hollow
Forward is empty spaces, new flow
Some circumstances did allow
A broken filament, A rotting tree's torment,
A journey from agreement, A forced smile's moment
A ground causing a descent, A dance for ascent
A lake that rescent, A rain for them to repent
Surely, this plant can only grow from now
Surely, more will come tomorrow
Surely, some will follow

is the frame that big of an upgrade over my index? looks like the two pros are a 33% boost in resolution and it's wireless? (i'm not super concerned with wireless other people love that but I never leave my pc). and the trade off is worse tracking, lag from wireless, and you now have to mess with charging it? it doesn't seem like a CLEAR upgrade. is the difference in display that big of a deal?
i've also never used any other headset so I don't really know how wireless or camera headsets feel.
>>
>>556050663
SLAM headset tracking is actually in a very good state. Hand controllers track well too, but you loose behind your back, lower body expressiveness.
Wireless latency is well hidden by on headset reprojection and controller tracking prediction, going from 40ms to 80ms overall latency isn't THAT bad, although it will make your aim slightly worse, and you need to be extremely sensitive to notice. Most good setups will get latency around 40-60 ms though, so it's not that much worse than wired (40 ms motion to photon, on most 90 Hz headsets).
Compression artifacts though, are quite noticable on hard to compress textures, but frame foveated compression should be able to reduce them quite a lot.
Resolution increase: you will feel like you've been blind your whole life and jesus cured you.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>556051227
I'm really excited to try out the wireless delay on the frame tbdesu. On the quest 3 actually you can get incredibly low latency but you need to drop the bitrate to around 120 @ h264 which looks kinda poo in games like pavlov but with the foveated encoding + more bandwidth headroom from wifi 7 then I believe the encode/transmit/decode on the frame will be extremely competitive. Might be sub 8ms for the entire stack.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>556051450
i'm mostly stationary. my primary concern is any lag with head tracking, the boxes work perfectly and I worry about losing that. I also never have to calibrate it, they know where the unit is at all times forever.
>>556051750
I've had no issues with it what are the supposed drawbacks?

Quest 3 + dedicated router, you have to only let it talk to Meta during the initial setup, after that you don't even have to give it internet access to use as a PCVR headset. Also, Steam Frame is promising the same thing but without Meta being involved at all, so might want to wait
>>
>>556051708
Now I'm talking total. Right now with my Q3 using optimized setting I'm getting 4/3/6 for encode/transmite/decode but like I said the image quality isn't great compared to full bitrate h265 but then the latency shoots up to like 6/6/12.
>>
>>
>>
>>556051898
No one knows what is going to happen to fbt after the frame releases and outside in tracking dies forever. Maybe the new meta will be frame+flux and we'll never need lighthouses again. Maybe there will be a controller mount for them in the future so you can track your hands behind your head. Maybe it'll just be a strap directly on your hand so you can have the quest finger tracking along with occlusion free hand position tracking.
Personally I wish I could go back to lighthouse tracked controllers but zucc and the absolute state of getting anything imported here has stopped me from being able to do that.
>>
>>
>>556050663
You're right, it's not an upgrade, it's a Quest/Pico competitor. Index is just retired as a product category. Short of Pimax or BSB there aren't really any other "upgrades" for the Index on the horizon.
For what it's worth, you don't have to use it wirelessly, it works wired as well. Head tracking will be fine (in most lighting conditions), it was fine even on the WMR headsets with crap dual cameras, with controllers we'll see but without cameras on the back of your head there will always be dead zones. For sims and general vidya it should be a good option; for social VR it's suboptimal, especially if you want FBT. The screen is of course much better, except for maybe FOV (we won't know for sure until it's released), but that's because the Index screen is downright ancient by now.

It measures the magnetic field and uses that to figure out its position relative to the hip tracker. Been a lot of testing videos that look pretty good. Main appeal is that the trackers are really small, lots of them can be supported at once, and it doesn't need line of sight so they can't be occluded. Some question over what metal things do to them like bed springs but theoretically you could leave your room entirely and still track fine. I think there's a video of a vtuber going to pee mid stream and it tracked her body the whole way but I can't remember if that was actually fluxpose.
>>
>>
>>556053674
it gets shilled every day here but the big innovation is that it uses an electromagnet on the floor rather than the very weak magnetic field of the Earth, reducing the amount of interference and allowing it to work on planets with no magnetic field. Since nobody is going to Mars any time soon, all it practically means is that the box fan and steel chair in your room maybe won't confuse your trackers as much, thougheverbeit nobody really knows how effective this mechanism actually is because nobody actually uses these trackers
>>
>>556053674
It's closer to vive trackers than slime/haritorax/mocopi.
Vive trackers are basically imu + constant calibration using the lighthouses; Flux is imu + constant calibration using the hip tracker's magnetic field
It's not a new technology, for instance it was used in the Pico 2 for the controllers, and it worked really well apparently (timestamped demo, review in french but you can understand the test without speaking it: https://youtu.be/ZvfiG5Yc9uc?si=-pUPjedJD4Jrk0ap&t=1070 )

I would say the richfag's choice for PCVR is Play For Dream.
Or even Galaxy XR, but with that one you have to have a narrow head for it to be comfortable.
Alternatively you could wait for reliable reviews to come out for the new Pimax Dream Air, getting that headset into your hands could take quite a few months tho, and Pimax is a very unreliable company so you are basically hoping for a miracle.

The VRPanda strap has made my XR much more comfortable to the point I don't mind wearing it compared to my Q3. The big downside is still the dogshit software that you're betting on Google/Samsung fixing, though it feels like a fairly safe bet since they want AndroidXR to be good for the meme AI glasses they're trying to push as well.

I've noticed in Forefront that kids are somehow extremely bad at interpreting what is happening to helicopters. They see the pilot dying as them having jumped out, maybe because they're unaware it's possible to die inside the cockpit? More unusually, they usually interpret the helicopter being destroyed by RPGs or tank shells as the pilot crashing into something, even when they're obviously nowhere near anything. Maybe because they expect some kind of kill feedback and the lack of that is interpreted as an environmental death? I witness these things almost every game from children.

any tips for optimizing 'my' avatar? it's only like 14mb but the poly count is through the roof, not sure if it matters. already using the d4rkavataroptimizer for reference (which I assume only compresses some of the textures)

You'll have to use blender and manually reduce the poly count by removing or merging edge loops.
>>
>>556075802
Get thrys and find all the 4k textures, change them to 2k or even 1k or below if the texture doens't suffer too much, aim for below 100mb texture. Don't forget there's also imposters you can one click on the website, too, as well, after you actually upload the avatar.
>>
>>556075802
anatawa12's AOO has a function that allows you to delete mesh by blendshape in Unity that you can use to cull body polygons underneath the clothing, but beyond uploading each outfit as a different avatar, you're not really going to be able to do much about polys beyond that without major work which simply isn't worth it. Make a single green version with an outfit you like, if possible, and then don't worry about poly count for the rest as long as everything else is okay
>>
>>
>>556076280
I already deleted a bunch of accessories, only gonna bother with blender if it's something I REALLY want to use
>>556076301

>>556078240
>uploading each outfit as a different avatar
oh does that actually count towards it? if so then I don't think the avatar is that demanding, only that it has a bunch of outfits options which I ASSUME doesn't actually matter except for people who glance at the numbers and assume the worst
should probably find out how to remove those anyway so I don't get auto-blocked
>>
>>
>>
>>556075802
yep
keep the d4rk shit. I think its broken since 20 releases and does nothing but it also doesnt make things worse.
Get AAO.
https://github.com/anatawa12/AvatarOptimizer/
Add this to your unity project.
Add the "AAO Trace and Optimize" Component to your avatar (where your avatar descriptor is)
Add "AAO Remove Mesh by Blendshape" to your Avatar body (not the head, your actual body)
Experiment what blendshapes you can hide. Then toggle them, this plugin will cut them out. effectively completely removing all tris from your model.
This works with Meshia but can have WEIRD af side effects. If you for example hide your entire torso under a costume just set the poly count in meshia higher, test it out until it works out!
Get LAC TC
https://lac.limitex.dev/en/docs/components/texture-compressor/
Add this to your unity project.
Add the "LAC Tecture compressor" Component to your avatar (where your avatar descriptor is)
You can play around with the settings and see what works for you, but even if you choose "High Quality" you will see a noticeable reduction in texture memory
Get Meshia
https://ramtype0.github.io/Meshia.MeshSimplification/index.html
Add this to your unity project.
Add the "Meshia Cascading Avatar Mesh Simplifier" Component to your avatar (where your avatar descriptor is)
This one is tricky and can make your avatar look CONSIDERABLY MORE SHITTY
It will decimate polygons until your avatar hits the treshold you set (its 70k by default for good performance)
Play around with the sliders, it shows you the result live in unity. If it works out for you, more power to you, but if you're a modbeast it requires insane tweaking.
This post was made by the never open blender gang.
>>
>>556078932
>oh does that actually count towards it?
It counts towards the VRC rating, and most people are either culling based on that or VRAM/download size, not actually looking at an avatar's stats.
>>556079075

>It counts towards the VRC rating
I'll try to aim as low as possible, but surely 'poor' is servicable considering it has a cap unlike 'very poor'
>>
I don't remember the details but wasn't there something as well about hidden outfits/parts not only counting towards poly counts, but that they are still used for drawing as well, such that hiding avatar parts doesn't really improve performance?
>>
>>556081845
I could make a Poor or even Medium that would rape your FPS far more then a decently made Very Poor, VRC's guidelines are arbitrary and dumb. However, the built in culling systems in VRC operate based on either rating or VRAM/download size, and most people aren't micromanaging showing avatars or not but instead relying on the automated systems. However, if you can get under 70k polys, I would be very surprised if you can't instantly get to Good because all of the other limits are fairly generous or at least easy to hit with the various tools that do automated clean up, while 70k polys is a rather strict limit comparatively, and you go instantly from Good to Very Poor at that cutoff due to it being based on a long fixed Unity bug and VRC's team being a bunch of fucking retards who don't think to revisit the standards, which means the community has largely decided to ignore them and everyone is Very Poor.
>>
>>
>>
>>556082672
You're probably referring to the material count? Each additional material incurs an extra draw call.
I don't know how it interacts with the fragment/vertex shader, but "doesn't really improve performance" seems that all vertices/pixel transforms are still calculated in the shader, which seems unlikely to me.

I just noticed a few things. The files in my Data folder are just duplicates of files in the subfolder. Also, some of the files you have that I don't are much larger than the others.
I played through Forgotten Fairyland to see which file had an updated "modified" date, and the ball I found then carried back over to my standalone file on its own.
This is retarded. What the fuck, Mighty Coconut?I know I'm being ungrateful because it shouldn't have even worked this well, but still, what the fuck?

I think it's definitely worth at least trying if you already have one laying around.
You need an adapter to connect the headset to the PC (3rd party ones work too) plus a way to connect Bluetooth controllers, but that's a lot cheaper than grabbing another headset to try and OLED is kinda nice.Only use mine for sims though, I still use the Quest 3 for everything else.

tl;dr in your case is stop using d4rks, start using AAO. AAO and d4rks don't work together and AAO lets you delete polygons in unity without opening blender.
If there's nothing left to delete you need to open blender and edge loop dissolve.

The only positive review is from a shilltuber who got it for free. "Clickable" cockpits are limited to stick and throttle. Cant even grab the gear lever. The plane controlls are simplified to hell, no radiator, no split throttles(rpm, throttle, pitch), no nothing. What the fuck they were doing all this time? I think I wrote bullshit, it seems that it doesn't actually support wired use after all, its USB 2.0 is probably only usable for charging. Well, you can technically play with wireless data while charging it with a wire, I guess.
>>
>>556133589
It only supports wireless video. It does so over either the provided 6E dongle, or over your own wifi network, and supports wifi 7 if you choose your own hardware.
You can use the USB interface to charge it or as a way to do file transfers and other OS-level stuff but no video streaming over cable.

More reviews are in and it seems you can enable manual engine controls, and map radiator/pitch whatever to your hotas/keyboard
But it litterally seems like a warthunder simulator mode but with singleplayer campaign and multiplayer lobbies without any mmorpg crap. Plus some touchable cockpit controlls, minimal though, just enough to fly with the automatic engine assistant. And a little added polish/higher fidelity in the cockpit models compared to warthunder.
Might be actually okay, but whats the difference if you can just fly il2? Cheaper I guess.

Id be down for short casual gamemodes after each round ir every 2 rounds. Gungame, one in the chamber, hidden, hell Id play a round or two of TTT even, but most people here seem to hate it.
Also as alternative to SND sometimes we could try Gunfight gamemode, its also competitve, team deathmatch with no respawns, locked loadouts, and if a round takes too long a capturable zone spawns. Works with any snd map.
>>
>>556140631
It's only cheaper if you buy the base game that lacks "premium" planes because this is Gayjew so of course there's premium planes. IL-2 is still better sim and if you just want singleplayer simcade Warplanes 2 is like 10 bucks and has longer campaign.

I never get into VRC without FBT and I never lay down. The immersion is worth it, even without ERP.
That said, if you don't have lighthouses already it's probably not worth it to get that type of tracking. Fluxpose looks good, wait for that, or if you have a pico, pico trackers. Pretty much everything else is a meme.

Hi, small reminder that boredom tea will be at 18:15CET (in ~2h)
> What?
An instance where people are encouraged to join for a cup of tea and eventual snacks if they fancy it. The instance will be closed after 1h
Likely in a simple room with a table and a video player
> Why?
To share relaxing time before bigger instances and after work. With a focus on things having to stay calm and simple. Making it time limited to ensure it is meant to be an in-between time rather than something big. For that reason it will be posted in the thread but as invite+

>Warplanes 2

Hip tracking makes your tracking not look retarded. When you do just feet and your hips don't really follow your lower leg movement, it looks incredibly bad. Hip + feet is just standard.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>556143710
Yes, you tpose once when you start vrchat. Its just 2 seconds in front of a in game mirror.
Its not like the hybrid colibration wher you need to do calibration dance every time on vr launch or when your quest randomly drifts, its not like slime fbt where you need to constantly calibration squat and constantly fiddle with yaw reset due to imu drift. With full lighthouse (or full pico setup) it just works.
>>
>>556143494
Calibrating takes 2 seconds. I put the trackers on while VRChat is loading, and then once loaded in, T-pose for 3 seconds and then I'm done for the entire session. I was in VR for over 24 hours a little while ago and I don't think I ever recalibrated.
>>
>>556143812
i don't know, i wish it was cheaper, I also am dreading the fact that I have to get a lighthouse stand, find my wires for the lighthouses to work because i didn't expect to need the lighthouses again, its just alot of searching.
>>
>>
>>556144087
Oh, youre not on lighthouse hmd... If its pico, just get pico trackers. If its quest, welcome yo hybrid tracking hell, which can be a less of a hell if you mount 4th tracker on the headset for continuous calibration.
>>
>>
>>556144406
Oh if you're hybrid you'll want a 4th tracker for continuous calibration and then it does get fucky. For a pure lighthouse space FBT is super slick and easy, but it gets a bit worse when mixed. With the 4th tracker it makes it good though.

Hip is actually the most important tracker to have because it allows you to lean forward without having your avatars chest massively desync with yours.
If I had to chose between waist or feet, it would be waist hands down, because it contributes the most towards immersion.
>>
>>
>>556159163
They just took WarThunder, slapped some rudimentary motion controls on top, fucked up the engine to make it run worse, downgraded the AI and flight model and shipped it with extra serving of cashshop. The whole "made for VR first" marketing was just that, marketing. Just GayJew things.

>AAO and d4rks don't work together and AAO lets you delete polygons in unity without opening blender.
Absolutely incorrect. I assume you can't use all of the features of both since they're doing the same thing and targeting the same mesh gets wonky, but you very much can use the delete mesh by blendshape from AAO alongside d4rk's
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>556161224
I haven't updated d4rk's to 4.0 and used it since, but with 3.12.5 and 1.8.14 AAO, they played together quite nicely. The only component I use is delete mesh from AAO, though, so maybe your mileage might vary if you're using more of it.

the advantages over index:
higher resolution
lighter
arguably better lenses
disadvantages:
dim screens
motion blur
no audio solution, and the audio strap (sold seperately) is shit
QA issues and need to deal with support
lower FOV
lower refresh rate
Microphone is good on both Index and BSB
Frame is very promising, as also Pico 5 maybe in the first half of 2025.

green snow happens as VR headset cable gets damaged over time. Knuckles stick drift has been resolved in later revisions, after they forced chink factory to use the correct version of sticks, but yes it can happen, eventually as with all other resistive sticks.

I found the original one in a public avatar world, went haha booba and decided to play around with it for a bit because it was pretty and I enjoyed playing the role.
One night the servers died during a meetup. Whatever avatar you were in, whatever world you were in, and whoever you were with, that was it until the servers came back.
So I was stuck in that avatar the whole night till I logged off.
And I just got used to it. So eventually I tracked down the MMD to have my own- I briefly tried moving to something else, but I ended up back at the same model. And over time I customized it, tried new things with it, gave it a base body to put real clothes on, and basically ship of theseus'd it until there was nothing left of the model I started with but the face.
And then maybe 2-3 years back I left that behind and built up something new, picking up where the old base left off.
Pic slightly related.

its a vr headset, it uses a mobile chipset, it has zero of the qualities a pc has and most importantly it is not some open source linux distro where you can do whatever you want, its gonna be locked down just like the steam deck

>>

steamOS is only partly open source and it has proprietary blobs all over the place
it is not open source in any way and you cannot hack it in any meaningful way

nah I didn't mean hacking on steamos itself, from what I've read it's probably best to leave it be and just dual boot (cause it resets every update if you set the main system to be writable), I did run into a plugin system that lets you keep changes between updates, but not really what I was thinking of. I was just thinking of it "as a computer" and got sad because anon said it wasn't but I don't believe it anymore
I was more interested in accessing the CPU etc and just running code. Should be interesting

for starters meta quest games are proprietary and will not run on the steam frame at all unless ported
valve has also stated that the arm->x86 translation eats at minimum ~30% performance
the foveated rendering looks really promising though and will probably help the performance a lot, really exciting
the steam frame battery will only last a maximum of 3 hours under low load and will drain to zero in 1 hour if playing games standalone, combined with the battery degrading over time this is really pathetic but can hopefully be mitigated by passthrough to a powerbank
quest 3 games look extremely poor compared to pcvr, they are literally mobile games
there is a reason why valve is marketing the frame as a streaming headset and why they put so much effort into making that work, completely standalone vr sucks ass but by streaming from a pc you can bypass those negatives

>for starters meta quest games are proprietary and will not run on the steam frame at all unless ported
Valve already provided a conversion kit for Android APKs and the only challenge devs face is if they used Horizon specific calls, so you're technically correct but retarded, which is above where you were scoring when you were denying it being a PC, and furthermore complaining about battery life when powerbanks are already standard equipment for anyone who does serious VR is even stupider. Are you the resident Pico shill who only posts at this time of night when people ask about headsets? That would explain why you're so fucking stupid if you're actually making money downplaying things rather then being so retarded that you managing to slap the keyboard well enough to form moderately coherent thoughts is impressive.

>>556226549
meta quest exclusive games will not be ported by the developers because meta wants to keep their walled garden they spent billions on building in the first place
what I meant with the powerbank is that we do not know if we can passthrough charge it or if it will still drain and degrade the battery even when plugged in, hopefully we can
and I would never recommend a pico headset because the software is absolute garbage and you are going to dread any software update

I customized a downloaded Busou Shinki model used for MMDs to look like the figure that I actually have and love the design of (made a custom head and edited the textures). Looks kinda eh, but it worked decently enough until all of these amazing booth models filled VRC and a crappy babby's-first-blender work started looking way out of place.
I want to get back into VRC, but learning to draw and model properly to make my own avatar will take years and I'm afraid to even begin. But if I do get to it, it will be either my headspace OC catgirl or a catgirl that I want to look like myself.
>>
>>556240784
You'd probably find that grabbing and modifying a booth is the most productive way to get something high quality. There's a LOT of high quality anime 3d assets out there on booth and it's basically just a process of finding one that's reasonably close and then modifying it.

the measuring tool was easy to use but I didn't trust it to quarter inch (centimeter) increments so i double checked with non-virtual measuring tape and it was pretty close.
the virtual laser leveler shits on real ones though so much it's not even close. unelss you're a professional and need real accuracy being able to just move everything with your controller, and the way that it's displayed as a whole pink plane is far better than setting up a tripod and getting a little oscillating red line that gets occluded by your head when you're trying to use it
