If you go to the swamp biomes there's lots of moss blocks in the ground in some parts, use shears to collect it if you want the actual blocks or break it with your fists to collect moss clumps to craft other moss stuff at the farmers work bench

Empyrion does the "Can't break blocks while core block exists" thing and I think it works pretty well. Could be used as a chunk claim, respawn, player base security mechanic too.

i know it's early access, but why can you hang regular lanterns on these but not a chandelier?
i just can't imagine them sitting down and saying "okay, so let's make sure chandeliers don't connect to these blocks" and everyone agreed, someone had to go out of their way to make sure they can't be placed

I doubt it'll end up this way but I'd love if portals weren't something you could just place anywhere, make them structures that exist in the world that you have to repair so they are in set locations or make them craftable via extremely rare items and they can't be moved once placed. It's a bit boring being able to teleport at any time and it takes away from other means of transportation.
But gamers today are weak willed and need "QoL" so we'll get infinite portals and flying mounts.

The portal system is actually SO GOOD. One thing I hate about minecraft is feeling like I need to travel 10000 blocks away to cut down an entire forest or level a mountain so I don't ruin the natural beauty of my local area when I start building. Being able to just portal into a temp world to ravage alleviates so much anxiety for me in that regard.

Something I've learned that I drastically prefer in Hytale to Minecraft is block placing. Hytale seems to have a sort of locked mode for when you're placing them in a row/column and refuses to place a block on the side of another if you accidentally hover over it while holding down the place button/key. This lets you just slide/run/move across a row/column of space placing blocks without them over stacking like it would in Minecraft. Maybe it's just the way I'm building but I haven't had to go and remove blocks that get placed in the wrong spot when doing this, it's like a safety rail and I love it

No they don't. You can continue using an exhausted adamantite pick forever (it has the same efficacy as a crude pick).

It only crashes sometimes. I've had it crash, reconnected, and just tried again.
I did give myself the portal crystal on the second try, but I've had crafted crystals work fine too.
The crash is really inconsistent. Might be some kind of metadata in the portal key is getting messed up randomly on craft.

I'm kind of torn on this. I hate having to make the long trek back home to unload and then trek back to resume. Hell, I'd be happy if I can just like, ship items home or something. That said, having points of interest be meaningful is good as well. Having something like Waystones (but make them something you can't pick up and place) could be a good in between?

Nah, the crash is something in the "move player to instance" code. It was happening to my local vanilla server on update1 just using the /tp world command.
Once it fails once you've got a better chance of it working, but I've also wildly bricked my local server (all commands started erroring out until I restarted it).
I haven't seen the problem locally on update2 (but I also stopped using multiple worlds). I assume the Anoncraft server is running Hyfixes which I think has a fix for the crash. Hyfixes doesn't work with BetterMap though which I assume is why we lost BetterMap.There's a workaround to get Hyfixes working with BetterMap documented in the Hyfixes README, apparently.

Which doorway looks better? If it's hard to notice the difference, other than the lighting, the top doorway is in line with the wall and has a protruding door "frame" while the bottom one has the door placed a full block behind, merging the door "frame" with the wall
I like the top one because it lets me place things on top of the doorway, no idea what I'd put up there but it is an option. I like the bottom one because it feels less obtrusive and more flush with the wall

Running up and down the hallway, the bottom one looks better as you pass it by so I think I'm settled on that one. The top one sticks out too much and blends in weirdly with the stone pillars either side... That you can't see in that image because I cropped them out. As for things to put on top of the doorway, nothing really. Logically nothing would ever go above a doorway like that, you're just asking for it to fall on someones head or something. In game though? Still nothing, because there isn't many decorative items to use in the current state. I really hope we get a big decoration update soon, I want barrels, crates, more banners, more lighting options like iron lanterns, more stuff that can be crafted with iron in general would be nice

I did a quick trip to a lava island and spent some time spawn camping big skellies for thorium, cobalt etc.

It is, but you do need to know some coding here and there. The great thing about Hytale is that you can just duplicate some monster's coding or some spawn code, and work on it for your monster mod. Very useful stuff. Asset Editor is an amazing tool and it's in-game.

Yes, there's a built-in asset editor which makes it exceptionally easy to add random shit, no code required. You do have to learn blockbench to model if you're not re-using existing in-game assets.Also it's pretty indecipherable out of the box, but I assume people make money off instructional youtube videos you can watch.

I hate the spawn system in this game. You pass through a spawner, and 3 seconds later, monsters appear behind you like nothing. It's probably one of the most hated features for me in this game, that and durability.
Durability should make it so when you repair, the item gets a small buff (scales up) so it incentivizes you to keep that weapon for as long as possible.

The equivalent mod I've seen a few times is Lalyan Cosmetic Core which looks like it does about the same thing (with roughly the same UI). I haven't tried either but I suspect that they have different incompatible formats for the cosmetics.
I only see two people publishing any cosmetics mods at all on curseforge so it's not like it matters.

The original studio head bought the game back from Riot, he said he was prepared to support the game himself for the next ten years, though the means by which he was going to do that have probably changed now that this game has sold insane amounts.
This while time it was assumed they got nothing done, but in the time between it being announced and Riot canceling the project, a sizeable amount of content and gameplay was actually finished and made enjoyable.
It also launched with mod support and stable multiplayer.
It's currently in alpha, so there's a lot of unfinished content and old systems waiting to be remade, for example; The magic staves you can craft currently use a crafting material as ammo despite there being a mana stat and multiple unfinished armors that give you more mana.
Hytale's current content many would say rivals Minecraft today, which says a lot about the development of Hytale and the lack there of Minecraft's development.
Next update is bringing animal taming, grass and fire spread, and the ability to save avatar presets.

They should have made it a fire wand, instead of making all wand/staff spells just different kind of projectile. Ice could have been freezing laser, Earth spawn roots from the ground, wind do no damage but push enemies around and maybe damage them with concussion, but instead magic is relegated to being basic while the same features go to other tools.

The problem is not that its hard, the problem is that it's stupid and feels gay. Why do you need to do some wizard shit just to grow crops, and why are you doing stuff with green magic on some farming table, but all other magic is done on magic table? It feels like last minute change from making crops drop the seeds/farm table being used to just convert crops into seeds because it was too much like Minecraft or something.

The life essence and crops is just a replacement for how it is in real life, you dismantle a crop to gain its seeds and you replant them. Literally no difference with the end result, just the process is different. You want more pumpkins in minecraft? You break them down into seeds. You want more pumpkins in hytale? You break them down into essence that makes seeds
