BG2 wise kitless thief is pretty poor, but there are some excellent kits. Shadowdancer is very powerful and super fun but drops off pretty hard against backstab immune enemies (Not entirely though, they still have a few tricks like maze). On the other hand, Bounty Hunter is solid throughout thanks to traps and special traps being so good. BG2 also has the advantage that Thief HLAs are fantastic. And of course there is Fighter/Thief which is more or less "Base thief but actually excellent and without significant weaknesses" but I presume that doesn't count.

No sure who you're referencing, but Fighter/Thief is very strong. A step below arcane casters and Fighter/Divine caster dual classes. But as strong or stronger than anything else. A personal favorite to be honest. Shadowdancer is good, but mainly it's just really fun. In combat stealth is not only good for backstabs but also makes you pretty safe in most combat and even lets you dodge spells. Bounty Hunter is a pretty rare choice, because the base combat ability of a pure thief is weak, but set special snare is really, really strong since you can throw them in combat. Tossing a maze into a group of enemies and having them trickle out to be slaughtered is powerful.

Unless being a Warrior makes him more durable, then it might not be the best idea. Pasqal is pretty fragile despite being mostly made of metal and machinery. He works pretty well as a Bounty Hunter, and imo Operative isn't as shite as people say, it's just underwhelming compared to the rest.
If you have the DLC, you can make do with having just Kibellah as your melee. I assume Solomorne also leaves if you go heretic, so speccing him into melee might not be viable for you.

this is why toybox is popular. not only is there no reason you could not just drop animal ally on your KC for a free horse, you could, if you so chose due to autism, refuse to level it by RAW since its not an advancing animal, or gestalt it with a class for a fantastical creature, or reduce its size to make it a my little pony, with the ability to turn into twenty crows like rainbowdash. you could, in principle, create a fighter with a panther or other kitty cat animal companion, shrink it down to tiny, give it 20 wizard levels, and treat it as the wizard and the character, the familiar.

You could, in principle, use your system mastery to select any feat you could qualify for but doesn't exist, as long as it provides some kind of static bonus, such as a madu for fighting defensively. you could, in theory, use elephant in the room on every character, giving them weapon finesse, combat expertise, agile manuevers, power attack, deadly aim, point blank shot, and mobility to cut down on the outragious feat taxes martial characters endure.
you could give your characters their con score at level 1 as an HP house rule, or turn your party into precocious child adventurers no DM will let you relive your ocarina of time/windwaker days without seething and shitting and farting.

All of this PnP magic in the form of a single mod. play the game the way it was meant to be played. crying and screaming because the game expects you to fight 40 AC at level 4 with 3-4 characters tops.. or, yknow, don't.

sky FC jrpg is one of my favorite positional RPGs but one of the major reasons is that all of the dialogue has voice over so its really easy to just turn your brain off for it. on the flip side, wotr is one of my favorite systems I've already mastered so I love using it, but the dialogue it emphasizes is completely tiresome misery slop. if you hate reading walls of text as part of gaming with story and narratives I cant think of a worse example of it than wotr, where almost none of the actual text has anything interesting going on other than to act as a back drop for "aaaah demons, or EEEYYYMM CRAAAAYZEEE" there is of course, the rare breed of anon who can goon to these games, but other than that I don't see a lot of the appeal. Most of the time having long winded characters works because the setting they are in have interesting characters or situations to bounce off of. that doesn't happen in Wotr. it's just you, some retards, and an army of demons. For example, you can go demon and be the demonic entity that rises to goodness or some such yeah? but the thing is, nobody fucking gives a shit. you aren't, for example, attacked and kicked out of the defenders heart. everyone celebrates you whether you cast loads of raise undead spells or not. theres just no reactivity in anything beyond your companions and those companions are half baked slop.

Some people are fine with stuff like the woke removal mod but I don't see how making a black paladin thief into a white paladin thief makes the storyline better if it's already bad. if romance isn't your thing there just isn't a lot there.

Kibbelah is my bodyguard, Jae is the best skillmonkey, and Argenta is the best damage dealer and the team mascot so these spots are always filled. But that leaves two spots that rotate often. Some combination of Ulfar, Solomorne, Cassia, and Jimmy typically occupy them, depending on the mission.

Pasqal is busy taking care of the ship, Abelard is in command when I'm away, and Idira chills.

I think people are selling Solomorne short. Glaito is doing 170-270 damage per Bite, and he does like 170 every Apprehend which also triggers whenever an ally shoots the Apprehended target or when the target moves. So that does add up. He's solid in combat. Obviously below the broken people like Kibb and Argenta, but solid.

The issue is that DIscount Dread's kit (soldier with shotguns plus overseer) makes it hard to utilize.
Even with Run and Gun, his range and mobility is limited and he cannot switch and use longer ranged options as easily as argenta. Dog positioning and abilities are more context dependent too. And he does not tamp up his damage as stupidly with overseer the way a BH or Arc-Militant does.

So he is good, but not great at anything.
I'd still pick him over the elves

There are 2 rebel snipers and some marksman cultists in act 1.
You can just use the long las or psyker powers to kill them. It does not require a dedicated sniper. Just a secondary weapon slot.

In act 2 onwards just play whatever you want because everything works and the game is easy. The question isn't what wins, it's how do you want to win? A lot of people gravitate towards bolters and melee. Some have fun with dots and aoe weapons. Psyker powers feel satisfying. You can even use pets to kill shit now.
