Soulslikes, rhythm, simulation and survival games all tend to leave their demo up after launch longer than other genres.
To me this suggests if you are those genres, leave your demo up. If you're not those genres, leave your demo up and you will automatically have less competition to play your demo. Big brain stuff.

Each time you reach your destination (like Copper Hills here), the script checks whether the destination is a town or road junction. If its a town, it loads said town. I was thinking about it for awhile but is it really worth to become a level designer or even try to get into the industry?
I'm definitely ready to study a shitton of stuff, I already was trying to get into UE5 and Unity, want to learn a bit of coding as well, but is there any chance?
Wasnt thinking about anything too big, maybe try to gain some experience when applying to minor projects. But as a full time employment?

a lot of indie hits started as hobbyesque projects. it's better to approach gamedev like that, don't put all your eggs in that basket because the chance of success is extremely low regardless. have a safety net

I've watched a couple of actual former level designers on youtube talk about their experiences.
One worked on Bioshock Infinite, the other on Dishonored.
From what I understand, you'll be given a test task to make a level in a specific style of gameplay, visual style etc. and they either provide you with the necessary assets or they tell you that you can use whatever game modding engine you want (Like Hammer for Source games, Radiant for old CoD games etc.)
If we're talking about 3D level design, you might want to build up a portfolio through game modding. Think Half-Life 2 custom levels. If you're looking for a level DESIGNER (not level artist or whatever) position then they're probably looking at how well your theory and design is.

Well understand that if you couldn't find a job as an architect (a far more important job than a videogame level designer), then things aren't good in the game industry either. Especially with all the AAA corps downsizing and laying people off en masse.
Not to discourage you of course, just telling you to be prepared that this might be even harder.
Anyway, you need to specify what exact kind of level design are you interested in.
Narrative heavy games like Half Life 2 or The Last of Us?
An arcade pure gameplay game like Doom or Shovel Knight?
Or multiplayer stuff, like Counter-Strike or Overwatch?
You need to be more specific with what you want to make and stuff, only then can I suggest some actual strategies (because not all level design is in equal demand, unfortunately).
I'm a hobbyist level designer myself and have researched the professional field a bit and all three are different niches and paths, even if they overlap a lot.

Last couple of years Owlcat became my most favourite studio, they are still hiring, I know that they are looking for experienced people, but you know... as a dream would be nice.
So RPGs like Pathfinder and Rogue trader. I also was thinking games like Fallout: New Vegas but without getting into Bethesda ofc xD

Well open-world games are a different approach entirely, they have entire teams designing them. I was never interested in open-world design myself so I can't comment on that.
They might use LDs for dedicated quest locations and said skills might be useful there?
In that case, you should try both linear narrative style structure LD (like HL2) and open-ended level design (think Deus Ex). See which one comes easier to you, and work on improving your design skills there.

Okay so i was Deep diving into RPG maker MZ, and there is an event "Show Picture" and when that used the picture will always default to its initial position for a single frame before moving to the place you actually want it, apparently this is a bug with the engine and theres no actual fix just a workaround, ehich is using a parallel event to show the picture offscreen when the level is loaded, and then when you actually want to trigger the picture to appear this works just fine but this seems a little bit roundabout, is there any other actual solution to this problem?

keep in mind there's thousands of skilled smart people working on things that don't get any recognition at all too all over the world, so yes luck and timing plays a big part and being first which also plays a role in why AI companies try to get there first, a lot of the foundation of game engines used in quake is still the way to do things because it just gets harder to innovate upon and I think he also recognized this with megatextures and around Quake 4/RAGE that it gets exponentially harder and a lot of people are in the same space doing the same thing and you can't just read some papers from the 80s and implement them and make huge gains anymore

It's kind of true that a lot of devs just had very good technical fundamentals but for some reasons weren't good problem solvers. During the MMO arms race between Everquest and WoW Blizzard mentioned the only reason they were even able to make the game was because of one Networks Engineer that worked at Id or something and in order to get him they bought him and his family a mansion.
And when Everquest 2 was nearing release they had heard that WoW had flight masters and boats, the senior devs at Sony Online Entertainment said that putting ships that players could walk around on was completely impossible in an MMO so they thought it was just a rumor. Everquest 2 added ships on an earlier build than them to compete which allowed you to travel between zones, but it was a dialogue prompt and a cutscene/loading screen, nothing like what they had heard. Then Blizzard showed off a beta build complete with Zeppelin travel, ships etc and the game director was yelling at them over the phone because they had no idea how it worked.

Friendslop with solo developers tend to not have great multiplayer, or do something cunning like using existing games and platforms like Roblox, or have lots of experience and know of good multiplayer models and game design constraints allowing for those models.
