02/07/26(Sat)10:21:42 No.556584141 Does it actually matter if I die to the shadows in the Fortress of Regrets?
I'm trying to just run around, and ol Yemeth the stupid keeps stopping right in front of an enemy because he needs to take a few seconds to realize that there's a perfectly safe path around it.
Also, What the fuck am I supposed to do? I've reloaded a few times and it seems entirely random whether an ally dies or not in the unskippable cutscene. (even when I haven't yet died this timeline) I'm activating the giant Lasers trying to piece together what's even going on.
At one point, the shadows kill me in the middle of a cutscene, and I have no way to pause or react. When I zone in to the fortress, I immediately get a cutscene with Ignus where the script seems almost sped up.
"Ah, the sorc-" "I have need of you" "There are creatures that must di-" "AAAAAAHAHAHA"

>you're almost the same age as them
How almost is almost? Because I'm quite certain that both of them are at the very least 15 years older than you, and more likely far older than that.
Jaheira tells you that Gorion asked her and Khalid to watch over you if he were to die back when you were too young to fend for yourself. Also, as far as I know, Gorion knows the two of them due to all three of them being Harpers, and considering they all refer to each other as old friends, they probably worked together for a long time before Gorion settled down to look after you.
I highly doubt the Harpers would recruit someone who's not yet an adult, and Gorion wouldn't entrust the safety of his ward to two fresh Harpers who're barely old enough to be a part of the organisation.

Seriously, I need a bit of help in knowing what I'm doing here.
Is it just bugged? I tried two routes hitting the cannons in the exact same order, both of which never dying, and Nordom lived in one of them for no reason. I think it's just another scripting error, and they're just supposed to die.
And by the way, I'm playing on the easiest difficulty, and one of those Greater Shadows tears me apart before I can land a hit. My magic is as weak as ever. Confusion is the only thing that actually helps (and it's how I was able to finish the cutscene without getting killed by them)
The worst part is that I was ready to just take it as it comes and go in blind, but then the game goes and acts up like this.
The story is top tier, but everything else about the game is mid at best, sorry to say. It's not the kind of game you play a second time if you catch my meaning.

is not like elves are represented the same way across all fantasy
but the one thing that is mostly common across all is the connection with nature - protection of the environment.
While humans often are the ones represented as conquerors - strength by numbers, a direct contrast to elves. Also, due to their long lives, they don't need to constantly have children to preserve their species. If human don't have children in 100 years, we go extinct. That doesn't apply to elves that are commonly around the 1000 years old.

Elves having shit fertility is a common trope.
For Eldar it's also because it ties two of them down for a couple years because they need to keep adding genetic material throughout the process, the pregnancy takes literal years + the soulstone thing.

To let them do as they see fit.
You make yourself seem weak in comparison to Theodora if you make them mourn her for longer, and you make yourself seem insecure if you make them forget the previous head of the von Valancius family too quickly. Also, since Kunrad has already been to Dargonus before you arrive, being too hasty or too respectful would both seem suspicious.
By letting them spend the month or so to mourn Theodora as seems to be tradition, you solidify your position as the legitimate successor without kowtowing to a dead person.

Their Pathfinder games catered more to build autists, while RT is a bit too easy for even casuals such as me
They seem to want to focus far more on getting the foundations of the balance right for Dark Heresy, since most of the feedback stuff focused on what people thought about the combat

In which setting? In Forgotten Realms there are several cities that are ruled by the men and several more where it's 50/50. Not every Drow city is Menzoberranzan. If you are referring to Menzoberranzan specifically, or other Lolth dominated cities, it's because the noble houses don't allow more than two men per house (every male past that is sacrificed to Lolth), they constantly monitor all the males to make certain they're not even entertaining going against them, constantly give them near suicidal orders and force them to do humiliating stuff at the snap of any females fingers, and ritually sacrifice any male who shows even the slightest signs of disobedience turning them into a Drider. And even still they are on a knifes edge since the male Mages in Menzoberranzan are a big power all on their own and the Priestesses have to be careful not to push it too far. You also have to account for the fact that any time a male does start to gain real power and prestige, the smarter ones just decide to leave the city altogether rather than try to dislodge an entrenched power structure that will horribly kill them if they fail.

Loads of games struggle with balance. It's not a surprise, it's hard to find that line where battles are challenging without being tedious and excessively time-consuming.
If you had to sit through a 10-turn battle with 40 enemies and lose, the prospect of doing that all over again can put you right off.

That's all that even comes from an autistic back-and-forth attempt to balance things. The autist demands the enemies be stronger, then the game becomes unplayable for everyone else so the player is strengthened. Back and forth it goes.
No matter what you do, the autist WILL try to break the game and then complain about how he broke the game. Ignore the autist.

Enemies will fuck you up with their concentration abilities, and you need to manage them by disrupting them or changing their position in the initiative table. Being able to modify initiative in combat is an interesting new mechanism.

False. Drow houses are only allowed two sons per house, every son after that is sacrificed unless one of the two elder sons dies. This is the entire reason Drizzt survives, he was the third son but Dinin murdered the eldest Do'urden to take his place right before the ritual was completed and Drizzt was spared as a result.

Two sons total per house seems way too few for them to have any presence at all. There wouldn't be enough of them to be mages or even slaves. I think it's every third son, not every one from the third onwards.

While officer buff loops into one turning battles is a problem it's not THE problem because even non officers can hit power levels at which they can nearly 1 turn encounters on their own. On this they actually properly nerfed bladedancer. It's still strong but not so much that it's brainless like it was. You actually have to understand what you're doing. Something that's less true with some other archetypes.

His feedback is just as useless. Build autists are always going to break the game and if they listened to them they'd just be buffing everything into le ebin optimized alpha strike builds even if it makes no sense flavour wise like they did with Commissar.
I mean ask these people what they'd do with operative and it has nothing to do with actually fixing the balance and slowing down buff scaling. They just want to make it work better with extra turns for even more alpha strike autism.

Yrliet is predictable too with her monke seethe but it somehow cricles back to entertaining because she's practically a parody. The rest are fine with Abelard, Pasqal and Argenta being my favorite. Jae, Idira and surprisingly Solomorne are just a good time and Jimmy has another moment of character context wich is good for those who don't romance him. Cassia is just ok, pretty boring overall, but would have been better if you could at least display her picture anywhere on the ship, but nope - fuck me I guess

A couple times she's called me a "stupid male" but then the very next conversation she's all like "I... I was wrong to say that. I apologise."
And right now she's telling me the story of how she refused to sacrifice a baby for Lolth (whom she now hates) and that's why she fled the underdark.

They're not fresh out of the academy, they're fresh out of special forces selection. That's a huge difference. You're selected for special forces after you are noticed and have accomplishments to justify your selection, which could take years.
That said, there are no official ages for the player characters. That anon is citing out-of-game interviews with the authors for what they vaguely had in mind while writing the story, it's not a hard number.
The trooper in their mid 20's makes sense. If they enlisted right at 18, they're been in the service for several years in order to build a resume for special forces. 25 or so sounds reasonable.
Similar with Agent. This is one of your first field missions, but on the other hand, the selection and training for Intelligence implies a certain minimum age of mid 20s.
The smuggler already has their own ship and their own crew and their own business contacts, and they were known enough to be recommended by the Mantellian officers, so that implies they've been doing this a while. Even if we assume they inherited or stole a ship while they were a teenager, all that they've done since then implies they're at least their mid 20's as well, possibly 30's.
Same with Hunter. You are recruited by Braden at the start of the story because you already have a reputation. This implies you're not a fresh green 18 year old.
Both the Jedi Knight and the Jedi Consular are described as prodigies who have excelled in their classes so far as younglings in the temple, so we would assume they're pretty young. They arrive to Tython at the start of the game to complete their padawan trials to become knights, so they could be as young as 14 since the youngest knight in the history of the order was 14, but they're more likely a little older than that.
The one that is the most open ended is Inquisitor. The only backstory is that you're from a planet the Empire conquered. You could be anything from younger teenager to 80 year old grandpa.

She was a FEMALE DROW that fully accepted and was inducted into her society. She was a PRIESTESS OF LLOTH for a 150 years, and self-admittedly murdered her three husbands.
The one and only thing she ever refused was to sacrifice an infant.

No they're not. Viconia is thoroughly evil, just knows she has to keep her head down due to her situation. Her exile had nothing to do with her getting a conscience, but the overall fall of her House. And she immediately moved on from Lloth to an evil more evil deity.

You were talking about her popularity as a romance, so only the BG2 stuff is relevant for that. People who played BG2 responded to the character as written in that game, they didn't think back to some info from another game that can only be obtained by charming a specific hostile NPC.

Citation needed, from the statistics and polls I saw over the years that was not the case. Saying she's the most popular because of a few die hards that constantly talk about her online is like saying Camellia is the most popular NPC in these threads because of the autists that spam her over and over. Vocal minority != actual popularity.

I think it makes sense insofar as she didn’t want to be creepily worshipped (even since she was a child if I remember right) and wanted to be treated like a person and valued for she is instead of how she looks. But then the monkey’s paw of that want coming true is “okay you have a giant hideous scar in the middle of your face.” So I get it. I’d be pretty upset, too.

Seem entirely possible given this Bloomberg quote from their Obsidian interview. If there was ever a time you're going to get a CRPG greenlit its in the wake of BG3. But if Obsidian doesn't put in some smoking hot snow elf who's down to fuck they're morons.

I think if they wanna do a BG3 type deal, they’re gonna need VERY strong companion writing. Avowed was an incredibly bad showing. Also there has to be companion romance because if there isn’t, people won’t give it the time of day. It sounds retarded but the sheer number of people who played BG3 just to be with Shadowheart or Astarion is astounding. Unfortunately, Josh Sawyer is allergic to romance and has said he doesn’t understand why it’s popular in games.

I mean it depends in what you mean by huge age gap but in theory it would apply to basically any romance with a character who’s a hundred+ years old while you play as a human
Minthara and Tav
Viconia and the Bhaalspawn
Nyrissa and the Baron
Arue and the Knight Commander
Shepard and Liara
etc
