If you previously downloaded from the /v/ mirrors then you have the Rain client (the first link was okay, this is only a problem if you have "Rain patch installed" in the zip name). The Rain client has slightly different quests, meaning you can't progress into G rank with that client. I'd recommend downloading the client in the OP, you can still use the same account and you won't lose any progress.

Move out of newbie zone when you hit HR2.
Feed your Halk to change his element/status atk.
At HR4 you unlock the tore(farm).
Go to the bar and talk to one of the NPC in there to make your personal npc hunter.

If you're having a hard time killing some monsters, MH hunter has tons of items and tools that can make your hunts a lot easier. To name a few: max potions, demondrug, amorskin, traps, dash juice. Frontier lets you buy most of the mats to make these items, so take advantage of that.
Also, always keep you're armor upgraded and check the stats. Are you getting one shot by fireballs? Maybe you shouldn't wear a set with -50 fire res.

I played on rain server recently up to early z rank, I don't feel like doing it over again on another server so soon but I'm eager to see anons reaction to the game. Supremacy monsters reactions will be funny

I figured this out myself a long time ago. You need to bring enough bombs to blow up the rocks in the way while getting to the top and if you run into too many traps you'll be slept/para'd and run out of time. You can bring energy drinks to wake up from sleep, I don't remember if I did anything special for para since I don't think I had negate para guild food by then. Try not to go the most direct path through the area as it'll generally have more traps in the way.

Playing this with the bros makes me want to finish MHFU, I hit high rank village 15 years ago and still havent finished. Mostly want to finish to see the old monsters not seen since like Yami Tsukami. But I cant do that right now because im playing MHGU (finished village valstrax christmas), and I havent seen squid monster which I thought was village final boss and Ahtal Kahn.

I have but I don't think hammer is a difficult weapon at all because you can run around beside the monster while charging the hammer and then slide in for a head snipe as soon as the monster finishes an attack. you are basically always safe while standing off to the side. at least until later ranks.

Download the game from OP
Uzip it
Go to steam and make a shortcut for the .exe file
Enable proton compatibility for it
Add the following launch command to the steam shortcut: LANG='ja_JP.UTF-8' %command%
If that doesn't work, install Japanese locale. (Depends on your distro, google it)
Step 2: High Grade
Follow this if you want to play in the updated client but have bugged out textures:
Open “protontricks”. Select the entry for Frontier. It will be marked “Non-Steam shortcut”.
“Select the default wineprefix”. Click “OK”.
“Install a Windows DLL or component”. Click “OK”.
Select all of the following:
* d3dx9
* ALL “d3dcompiler_#” entries.

Click “OK”. Wait for the process to finish. The original window will pop back up when complete.
Close “protontricks” by clicking “Cancel” until no more pop up.
Step 3: Controller Issues
Follow this if you want to enable rumble or if the triggers don't work
To install "Xidi":
Download https://github.com/samuelgr/Xidi/releases/tag/v4.2.0
Extract the zip file and copy the dinput8.dll from the win32 directory into your Frontier install directory.
Open "Protontricks" and select the Monster Hunter Frontier entry.
Hit okay on the default prompts
Select Run winecfg
Click on the Libraries tab.
Enter dinput8 into the "Overrides" box and click Add.
Click OK, then close everything.

Anyone else find the cancel timings in monster junter games sort of obscure? In (2D) fighting games it's almost always as soon as you hit, but in monster hunter it's often some time into the recovery. On the other hand, the input buffer seems pretty generous so it's not too hard to just mash your way through the cancel.

Yes. Every category has two colors, for exemple if leader has red and green next to the word then it should be a red or green partnya in that spot. I tried both a team with and without the right colors, got stuff properly with the right colors. I don't know if it's individual or if everybody can access the rewards, and if several players can use the function at the same time if it is individual. It gives mats for partnya armors

u probably suck at hitting the monster, i saw it once but got knocked around before i got to use it. youcan also level up the transcendence to last longer, mine is at 75 seconds currently

There's an event quest that grants poogie tickets. It's shit to solo and takes forever because you're limited to rarity 7 weapons. With a full party it's probably very fast to farm. The quest is 2 bulldromes hc at the bottom of the event quests list
