>>Do you like having extra-powerful enemies in dungeons, such as the "strong foes" in RTDX?
Absolutely, even having the regular enemies go into an awakening state and even evolve when you don't revive a party member they defeat goes a long way.
>Are Pokemon typecast into careers/roles based on their species, and is there any stigma if they pursue a different path?
It would moreso be certain species being more desired for certain jobs rather than something being set in stone. If you had to hire a delivery mon, you'd probably hire speedy mon or one capable of flight over a slow one like a gulpin. They would only face stigma if they drastically underperform due to being really unsuited for the roll.
>Have you ever beaten a level reset dungeon? If not, do you want to?
A good number of them, Wish Cave (BRT and DX), Purity forest (BRT and DX), Zero Isle East, West and South, Path of no Return and all non Meowth Cinema lv resets in PSMD. If you wanna count ROM Hacks, I've beaten Zero Dungeon's arcade mode many times.
>What type of gummi looks the most delicious to you?
None of them, they should all be burned. Grindy ass pieces of shit.

People are bored. This IP gets neglected hard and now everyone's got some kind of fatigue. I wonder what it's going to take to breathe some life back into this fandom. Rescue Team DX was alright. Can't complain about it. But what everybody really wanted was something new that also captured the magic of playing Explorers for the first time. But instead we get rehashes or ports of older games that were already long overdue for a re-release, all on a console that paywalls them with subscription-based models. The only thing a PMD fan can do is complain, or make their own shit.
Also this captcha sucks fat donkey nuts.

Yeah obviously. Eevee is pretty popular, but riolu tends to get overshadowed by Lucario everywhere except PMD, and vulpix and shinx, while still liked pokemon, don't get nearly as much attention from mainline game fans relative to PMD

How many people actually played Time/Darkness before Sky instead of just jumping straight to Sky, though?
>>
>>58856253
back then i did actually have both because it was the boxart that drew me in and sky wouldn't be public knowledge for a while.
so by the time i played sky personally i had already started most of t/d.
in a time when its benefits were less well-known, it wouldn't be a surprise then that people did play the original duo before the enhanced edition.

What!? You don't like gambling? You don't like what's essentially a crafting system? You don't like the overly long drink making cutscene that makes the IQ grind even worse while giving you stat increases? You don't like having 2 of the noteworthy dungeons new to EoS (Zero Isle Centre and Destiny Tower) locked behind doing 150 recycles or drink RNG respectively? You don't like having your party members forever stuck in a Starbucks and not at the crossroads? But it's NEW content!!!
I swear sometimes Time/Darkness sound more preferable than Sky with how many of the Sky additions are annoying or unnecessary and the game's strong points are from Time and Darkness.
>>
>>
>>58859441
The games by and large are the same, when people cock suck Explorers, they glaze things that originate from Time and Darkness (and Special Episode 5, I'll get to that). The big aditions to sky are the Spinda Cafe (what I just ranted about), Sky Peak, a new "story" "dungeon" added after graduation, and the special episodes. Sky Peak is cock and ball tourture to experience, it's basically 10 beach caves strung together, getting a full HP, PP and Belly after each one. Since you can bring whatever mon you want, that means you arent a part of the story, your characters just kinna stare into space as a Shaymin serves as your anoying tour guide. There's some minor story with other mons and teams going up the mountain, but it's really unimportant. As for the special episodes, they are definitively the bigest aditions, but I dislike most of them. I have no wripes with Igglybuff's special episode, and the only thing I dislike about Bidof's is the stupid theory aboutJirachy grantig Bidof's Wish nearly causing ther planet's paralisis. Sunflora's special episode is just filler about Sunflora arresting an invencible outlaw (Woah!) and making peace with Loudread, who gives a fuck. Team Charm's special episode is just these non chaaracter going on a super cool and awsome treasure hunt where they meet Wigglytuff and their rivals are the non caracters from team AWD, who cares. And Special Episode 5 is the root of (most) evil in the PMD comunity, all the shit about Grovyle x Dusknoir originates from here. It doesn't help that this Special Episode is far longer than the other 4, even though it takes place as the Hero and Partner go up Temporal Tower to restore the future(You even at one point go up the Temporal Tower in the future, and its just a waste of time, there's no one there).
I suggest you just watch the cutscenes of the special episodes (and maybe Sky peak to see how ass it is) on Youtube.

>when people cock suck Explorers, they glaze things that originate from Time and Darkness
truth nuke but i'd say it's a similar situation to emerald/platinum where you don't really have much reason to play TD if you have access to sky since sky kinda just adds without removing
>>
>>58859512
Of course Sky is de facto better, It has everything from time and darkness and then more. What pisses me of is that what Sky adds is for the most part ass or unimportant, and the stenghts of the game is stuff from Time and Darkness. It's sorta the same problem I have with the rom hack Explorers of Fortune, where It adds QoL patches that take like 30 minutes to apply in total and a good bunch of Pokémon (though slots where wasted on adding muh shinies and muh legendaries). Even if I find these aditions to have little merit, the hack IS de facto better than Sky becasue It has the same shit as Sky, and some more on top.
>>
>>58859531
Sky is just a much more polished game. You shit on Spinda's cafe but it actually gives legendary Pokemon that were in Time/Darkness places to go instead of the dogshit random encounters in other dungeons.
It introduced the lookalike items as well in addition to the different outlaw missions.
Moreover it has a lot of QoL that Time/Darkness doesn't have.
You can see which team mates can use a TM at a glance, when you save it gives you an option to return to the main menu, the IQ skill a Pokemon will told to the player, when you recruit new Pokemon you're given the option for who you'd like to send back to the guild instead of forcing the new recruit away, and they added new traps. Not to mention helping with storage.
I don't see the issue that the expanded re-release of Time/Darkness has all of the strengths of Time/Darkness.

>>
>>58859554
To clarify, I'm not telling people to play Time/Darkness over Sky. The things you mentioned are positives, however Big or small, and there are few things that Sky adds that are not ignorable if you don't like them. (Fuck Sky Peak, fuck teamates waiting in spinda café). The things Is that back in the day, you'd have had to play the same price for what's broadly the same game, and nowadays you have to pay the scalper fee, though I trust that the people here are smart enough to just download the rom.
Also, many legendaries are still random encounters in Sky, the exceptions are that Jirachi got added to the new star cave, Mewtwo and the legendary beasts where turned into challenge requests. In fact, Moltres went from final maze to random encounters. I wont complain though, I'd rather have final maze be purposeless than a Jirachi Gulag.

I wish there was a way to rate stories more concisely than just asking/giving recommendations in the thread. I like the idea of getting more interaction here, and more personalized reccomendations, but realistically I don't think it's worth the effort to most of the lurkers to ask, and at this point the backlog has to be insanely intimidating.
>>
>>
>>

if I always do the the same steps in the boss room, will it always end in the same result?
Ive tried to befriend deoxys for about 20 times now with a 15% chance, he never asks. I know the rng line in pokemon games is a thing. Do I need to dance before him to get different results?
>>
>>58866324
If you're reloading a save state over and over, I belive so? In Rescue Team in particular, there are people who do dungeon manips because if you quicksave, the RNG number that determines the layout gets set to 0, and from there everything becomes deterministic, if you do the same steps, you get the same result. If you're running the dungeon over and over againg, you can follow one of these manips (it uses an articuno that hasn't seen combat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6_nOffVyQo). If you don't want to follow a strict set of inputs, you could try making Deoxys pick up a reviver seed such that, if it faints and you don't get the recruit, you get another shot at recruiting it (This will cause its HP to be increased a lot due to a bug if it revives, rissing to 950 HP).
>>
>>58866377
but you cant just save the game the floor before the endboss and restart and if he doesnt join? I just tried that and lost all my items due to that. Kind of sucks.
I wanted do befriend all legendaries but its too tiresome. But doing RNG like in that video on all of them feels like cheating. If I get them by following a literal step by step guide why bother.
But thanks for the vid. Does it keep the increased hp even in dungeons with lvl geset?
>>
>>
>>58865292
>I'd be happy to hear about what stories you enjoy and dislike
This. It's always great to have story discussion, and for authors to get feedback.
>>58865494
If you're talking about giving stories a score or number rating based on how good it is, I don't think that's the best idea. It could make writers discouraged if their stories get bad ratings. And anons might give each other high scores no matter how good the story actually is, just because they're friends behind the scenes, or because an anon is popular, or because the story has a meme or joke that they like.
>the backlog has to be insanely intimidating
It'd be nice if every story at least had a summary, so people could focus on the stories that sound interesting to them, instead of reading through so many stories with varying subjects and tones.
>>58865630
I agree. Sometimes it's just nice to get a comfy story.
>>
>>58865494
At least for me dropping a review/impression of a story feels weird when I realize the story is 2 years old and the author probably isn't frequenting the thread anymore. Probably just me being an autistic fuck though.

Games written for children do not usually have characters with real depth. They have characters who look mysterious because they don't explain much about said character and that leaves room for imagination.
That is why people like Grovyle and Dusknoir. They literally pretend they're cool

>First Character Prompts
I read through the first two questions and decided this one probably isn't for me. I don't have enough of an image of these characters yet to connect them to their answers. I might come back to this one in the future. I'm also not completely sure what the greentext is supposed to be, but I'm assuming it's Out Of Character reactions to their answers?
>Oshawott's Adventures in Swimming
Very short, but quite sweet. It presents a good melancholic image, and even if "non-canon", I hope this Oshawott finds a nice home in their new life.
>Map (Original)
The intro was a fun deception! Booker's solution to the problem seems reasonable enough given that it took him a few tries, and I've never moved a map with a small rock so I'll have to give it the benefit of the doubt. I do wonder how the rooms in the building are set up such that he's able to move from the library, to the storeroom, to the map room without problem, but maybe they've just skipped placing doors altogether.
>>58863872
Thanks! There's a bunch, and I'm sure I'll be too busy to read them at times, so I'm taking my time and doing it at my own pace.
>>58865292
I don't mind "filler". I could of course trim it down to just the "Worldbuilding entries" if getting through it quickly was my goal, but I enjoy slow atmospheric stories too. I've never been much good at writing out my thoughts, but I'll give it a try.
>>
>>
>>58871812
>Map (Original)
As an additional nitpicking point I forgot to mention, the twist ending of the map being the wrong one seems a tad unnecessary. Booker mentioned earlier in the story that the map matched a description they were given, so it seems a little far-fetched that they wouldn't have seen another matching map first while scanning the room. It is of course realistic enough that the map he was supposed to get had been moved by someone else out of the room earlier in the day, but it doesn't add much to the story in the end and the joke didn't really hit for me personally. On the other hand, it could be a working example of showing that Booker has a tendency for tunnel focusing, and hadn't looked around for another map matching the description once he saw that one.
>>
>>58871812
By character prompts, I'm assuming you mean the Q&A stuff? It's definitely miscellaneous stuff and not usually that important outside of fun character info that doesn't have a place in a story. So no, you don't have to read it yet. The first one was definitely the most unorganized one.

>I do wonder how the rooms in the building are set up
Back when I wrote the story, the layout of the guildhall was very nebulous. We've got a more solid idea by now, though. The rooms Booker visits in that story (library, supply closet, and map room) are all next to each other on the second floor.

Absolute fucking fake game with fake gameplay. The town looks like ass outside of like the Guild, NPC interactions were more shallow than a puddle, two fucking dungeons with no enemies (but the water is blood!!!1!), a force loss against the husk, a choice of either good or bath ending (there are no saves, if you choose the bad ending you'll have to sit trough the whole cringe ass backstory again to get the good one) and a force win where if you're defeated, you just go "Nah, I can't loose like this."
>>58873715
The fucking flashback scene is complete dogshit. Heavily derived from the the one at the end of the main story and almost exclusively made out of existing scenes from the main game. When I first played it I thought it was some kind of parody of shitty video game creepypasta, but it's completely sincere. The 'director' only ever has two kinds of ideas, Shallow Shindig or things like >>58873762 where he butchers a character from Explorers (it's always Explorers)

The two are unrelated, the Shallow Shindig guy doesn't even write his hacks. A full fanfiction is way too much work for him

I didn't think they could make Darkrai worse. I actually prefer he be a more one dimensional character than a maniac stopping time to save his gay relationship.

bubsy - this particular hack was made by the other biggest retard in skytemple who also never shuts the fuck up and just churns out autistic even by pmd standards slop - but the nightmare itself was designed by director-sama

>Bubsy PMD hackI just realized that Bubsy out of all things got THREE games since the last non-remake PMD
>>
>>
>>58874853
You'd think. But the creator decided to make it an "emotional" and "heartwarming" story goes from being a laugthing stock to a true hero respected by all, with aspects of found family where a small kid Sprigatitto lets hobo Bubsy live in her house.
Saying it didn't pan out right is cutting it short.
The hack also makes attempts at humor, but none of them are funny.

She dissowned KMD because an abusive ex boyfriend from her harem suggested moves (custom or not, I don't remember) for Klonoa, and she wanted to cut ties with him.
Then imediately took that as an excuse to reuse the main threat/antagonist from KMD in BMD
>>
>>58874910
What does she mean by "disowned"? She made the hack, it exists. How does that in any way justify being a lazy bitch and reusing a final boss that wasn't even good in the first game.
It's not even her design at that.

>Tanked the play rate of Bubsy 3D so hard the sequel got cancelled
>Was barely ever in the main title picture because he was never a big enough deal
>His Sonic cosplay was cringeworthy
>Unironically calls himself """"""""DA BEST MASCOT PLATFORMER ON THE SNES!""""""""
>Shit taste in enemies (this one is actually 100% true, the Woolies were terrible)
>Shit design
>Has Sonic's name tattooed on his neck
>Failed at his first job so badly that he resorted to conceding to a bandicoot

The person who made the hack plays it herself on twitch, so you can check the vods there. The other thing I should mention is that she updates her hack fucking constantly to the point the SkyTemple server had to implement a rule that you can't spam the hack-announcements channel. All the changes usually small insignificant tweaks like fixing a typo or two. She has been trying to add minor changes the story after someone reviewed her hack basically calling it shit, but no matter how much you polish a turd it will still be a turd.

What the hell would we even use? Bubsy is really hard to compete with in terms of failed mascots. Only thing that comes to mind for me is the Cheetahmen. It's an isekai story at least, so it's more relevant to PMD than Bubsy

Not quite a held item, but since PSMD had the whole emera system in place of both held items and IQ skills, I'll give it to the Even Odds emera. It has a strong effect, but not overly so, adds depth to the PP amount of your moves and constantly asks you weather to cash in the effect with your odd PP moves, or to instead use an even PP move to get the effect ready for the next encounter. The critical hit zoom in and sound effect is just enough to make them satisfiying.
>>
>>58878344
My favorite emeras were the one that sometimes lets you hit twice and the ones that make enemies get status ailments when you hit them or they hit you. I don’t remember ever seeing one called Even Odds. Wonder how many more emeras exist that I never found in my playthrough.

>>58878145
The only times I ever switch off the Xray Specs are for recruiting and item mining in RT, the latter of which the Tight Belt is best for. You don't even need that for item mining in DX since the Xray Specs actually show buried items.

I never thought hunger was a big enough problem to devote an item to handling it. I’d rather just stock up on apples and use a held item that gives me a new ability. But I usually stayed out of long dungeons, and I can imagine hunger is a bigger issue in those.

The hack scene has been getting shadow drop after shadow drop. About a week ago, some rando released their first hack, "Unlikely Heroes". The cutsene direction is quite horid, but the story is prety good and interesting. "Lonely Roads" part 8.24132 redux also launched, haven't played any of the, so I can't say much. Lastly, like 3 hours ago, another New hack droped, of course I haven't had the chance to play it, and wont for some time. I'd be cautious thoug, those 3 have worked on some turbo garbo hacks one was in "Nocturne of a Presumed Prodigy", a behond terribly balanced hack, and all 3 of them where featured in the making of "Concealed Turncoat". This may not even matter at all, the terible balance of the first hack can be atributed to a GTI speedruner who also worked in the hack, and the terrible everything of the second one should be atributed to Lobo/lobochaman.
The hack itself has a Typlosion/Flygon highbrid that looks like a Flygon with gamer back.

Eevee is technically in the same category, Eevee when paired with any of the 3 furry crew is normie-tier but when paired with literally anyone else or embraced in the holy Eevee-Pika duo Eevee becomes incredibly based.

All Protagonist + Partner combos should share a type.
>>

>>58884791
Double water would be busted. Water type heroes already have the advantage of extra movility through water tiles, but that's kept in check with your partner not being able to follow you if you use water tiles for shortcuts. Allow both the hero and partner to walk over water, and you'd be a fool not to go double water.

A lot of people shit on Chatot and Wigglytuff but nobody gives the Explorers hero the same shit, because they’re also retarded. Why did the Explorers hero ruin the Waterfall Cave discovery? In no way shape or form did it benefit them to expose the entire thing, it just made the partner’s day worse.
>>
>>
>>58895734
Anon, the Explorers hero is literally laid the fuck out by Skuntank the precise next day, so I think karma evens that out already.
And if you pick the 'bok bok bok' option (the canon option) then karma also kicks in again for the Apple Woods incident.
>>
>>58895734
>>58895804
People have perpetuated the myth that the Explorers hero is a nice guy because cowardly redditors and foids won’t dare to be mean to their partners but from everything official we’ve seen, between the anime special, the one promo comic with the Chimchar and Turtwig, and in game dialogue choices it looks like the Explorers Hero actually trends towards being a prick and I think out of all the heroes in the series the Explorers hero has the most justification to be one.

>Legendaries get their shit punched in by a kid and someone who just learned how to fight recently
How do you fix that outside of just writing the main story to not have fights against the "higher-tier" legendaries?
>>
>>58896487
Make it so that Legendary boss fights have objectives that aren’t just a slug fest. The Legends can’t be beaten and hit like trucks but if you avoid their onslaught and complete mechanics you can win through other means.
>>
>>58896487
>>58896878
Yeah, take out the summoning stones, complete some side objective then escape, defend/distract until they can be sealed, etc.
Alternatively you could say they’re just fighting an aspect of Dialga, and thus only a fraction of his true power.
Or you could just let the kids kick Dialga around.
>>
>>58896487
The context for the story fights is usually that they're corrupted or berserk or whatever, and the postgame fight is their peak form. Of course, nothing is stopping you from doing the postgame fight as Luvdisc anyway...

Stun seeds are fucked up yo.
PMD is a classical rougelike, using items, equipment, and prep to make up for difference in strength is entirely on theme..
Tossing a single seed is probably too anticlimactic for a non-comedy story, but buffs, debuffs, and status effects can justify punching way out of a character's weight class. Especially with teamwork in the mix.
It's not like any working strategy against Primal Dialga in game is fair. It's either cripple him with debuffs, agility spam, or boof 12 reviver seeds.
