Maybe from small comunities near where a legendarie pokemon rests, but by now means is it wide spread. Legendary/Mythical pokemon more integrated into society (Like Virizion or Meloetta) wouldn't get this treatment.

Savescumming feels, well, scummy. I preffer to take the loss. While I dislike the scenario of diying with something rare in my bag, that scenario isn't really likely, since by that point of the game, you'd provably have ten or so reviver seeds up your ass at any given point + an escape orb.

Why does that need to be fixed? The important part of the story is not the showdown with god persee, but how such a task affects the events before (PSMD partner needing to keep strong at the sight of no one being arround in Serene Vilage after returning from the voidlands) or after (Rescue Team hero needing to leave that world after the job's done). It's why mainline pokemon falls flat. Yes, you fight Giratina in Paltinum, but all that happens before it is that Team Galaxy is up to no good and you have to stop them, and that they oppen a portal to the navigational puzzle dimension, then literaly nothing aboutyour battle chaanges the remaining part of the story.

Don't know what your characters are, but I'd suggest sheer willpower and refusal to stop fighting even when there's no reasonable way for them to survive an attack from it, that also creates an opening for them to counterattack. It's a very shonen but very kino when done right
