maybe better way to call it was non dogshit but some guy was shilling it hard i just bought it for shit and giggles but i'm almost done with the package i'll probably try a lighter roast now but i need at least one bag of decaf
probably should get a scale instead of eyeballing it and wasting coffee but theyre like $40 for a timemore or hario and i can't decide if i want one of those or just a cheap regular one since i want them to be usable for cooking

Iunno bro I go to the shop and ask what's new for spresso and she says nuffin thehn I ask what's new for filter and she goes yeah all these right ere. I have no idea why they can't make espresso with the same beansies. I think they just have to spend more time dialing the process in to make it good for a shot when with V60 you just make it the standard way and it's good by default.
But idk.

I know this feel bro.Walking or cycling to a nice comy coffee shop and just being inside it gives you good feels. I have a couple I enjoy, but one of them has started making bad coffee, turns out it was only comfy because of this one barrista. Not sure what the new people are doing different but I no longer can go there. It will probably not last long after this now anyway.

Ironically my new favorite shop is the one the two good barista opened after they left my old favorite one and my old one turned to shit. Anyways, there's an easy barista test for when you first see a new one. If they can't make a macchiato correctly, they can suck this dick.

Yeah maybe but rate of rise is fuck easy to maintain you just slowly ramp up heat and ramp down cooling and drum speed.
>Bro the malliard reaction is your golden goose it's soooooooo important you want it as long as possible
No you actually fucking don't - too long on the malliard and you burn away all the sweetness and acids you're trying to get. Simply having malliard last long enough for you to smell its telltale sweet scent is enough.
>development time and ratio
Complete and utter meme. Maybe good to have as a baseline but the time that actually matters is time before first crack, and then time after first crack. But I'm really of the mind that just providing a ballpark window of time after first crack would work for medium rather than development ratio since you don't even use development ratio for light or dark roasts.

$30/lb is still ridiculous for some guy with a home roaster probably a sr800, behmor, or genecafe.
That's still more expensive than like SW and I'm sure you are just getting your greens from Happy Mug or Sweet Marias. All the really good greens get bought up by specialty roasters.
The fact that you even ask if you are a good roaster or did you get lucky with your bean choice means you just started roasting and have only ran a few different beans at most.
Just enjoy the much cheaper coffee and learning how to roast instead of trying to get some startup going without having the experience or the gear to do it.
Not trying to be a dick but its one of those things, same with growing culinary mushrooms, where everyone who gets into it thinks wow I should start a business this is so easy.

Usually buy some medium grind ground coffee which is perfect for my plunger, but I was at a different place today and bought some ground coffee thats said it could be used in expresso or plunger, and the grind is definately finer. There was still dry cofffee in the bottom of my plunger after adding water so had to give it a stir but this in turn led to no crust on top of my brew like the medium grind would normally have. Did I wreck my coffee by stirring it too early. Not sure.

Yes. Moka pots suck. For anything lighter than burnt italian blends. But also just in general. Those burnt italian blends also traditionally incorporate cheap robusta as filler. They drink shitty coffee in Italy. Don't be like them.

I went back to that old reply chain (>>21717502) to reread your recommendations and I have to apologize. greanbeanery is pretty cheap for 10lbs. I don't know why I said it was not much cheaper than my local roaster, it's around 30% cheaper which is significant.
royalcoffee's a really good deal if I knew a couple people I could split a bag with. I don't want to be drinking the same beans for months or years.
Thanks for the info.

Vacuum sealed and frozen greens will last virtually forever but I've roasted(and sold kek) some years old opened coffees with zero complaints. Royal's 22lb "Crown Jewels" are looking like your best bet for top tier quality but you're paying $60 on top for shipping/customs. Big roasters like Rogue wave are likely sourcing the majority of the beans through Royal while GBery is a solid tier or two down. But if you're already drinking secondwave-ish coffee its probably perfect.
10lbs goes quick. Let me know what you end up picking up. I was spoiled for the first few years of my roasting with a co-op. I paid cost of greens + a couple bucks to the guy sourcing and packing + like $12 shipping on 20lbs. Now I'm in the same boat as you playing the repacker rodeo.

it's not about the money for me, it's more fun. Also most places for beans wont get back to you without a company name and some others wont answer questions regarding the industry either.
Whether or not I'm successful isn't the point. I'm enjoying the process and hopefully continue to, as there's a lot around the 'roasting' too, that's business focused which is fun.
I know I've got to cut my teeth with doing plenty of roast 'reps' first but hey, no time like the present. Momentum helps!
