>Who is /fat/ for?
For Calorie Conscious Chocolatiers who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).
>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html
>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Get a standing desk and a walking pad and replace bedrotting with walking while you binge TV/vidya/4chan all day, AND THEN forget to eat.

Finally committed to the journey at the start of this month. Cut out both beer (probably the culprit for a lot of my weight gain) and pop. Downloaded cronometer, started tracking my caloric intake (1000 calorie deficit) and I’m at the gym every other day. So far I’m down 8lbs since Apr 1. 298>290 at 6’0.
Fully expect the weight loss to slow down after I become less of a fatfuck, but it’s nice to see progress right off the bat.
Any tips to someone starting out that you wish you knew when you started?

Yes I don’t understand why I’m losing weight so fast unless I’m doing something wrong with calculating my BMR. The one thing I’m not sure of is the “Baseline Activity” in the app. I have it set at sedentary, but maybe I should adjust it to “Moderately Active” since I’m working out multiple times a week
>>
>>
>>
>>77192893
That’s what I was thinking since I have noticed myself looking less bloated in the mirror. It’s not like I’ve fasted for the whole month so far and I definitely don’t have 6+ hr gym sessions, so majority of it is probably water and maybe 1-2 lbs is actual fat. I don’t think it’s possible to burn 28,000 calories in under a week.

Man, it's definitely a mental challenge when your weight loss begins to slow (trend from 1 - 93ish is steeper than the trend from 93-current) and the weight spikes hit.
I definitely struggle with pooping regularly. I try to get enough fiber, but I think I've spent so long eating trash that I've trained my body to not poop regularly. It's fucked. So I get some weird weight gains that kind of go away after a big ol shit.
Overall happy with progress - started at 120kg (only started tracking at 116 - the first 4kg came off in like 1 or 2 days though so who cares about that).
Caloric deficit and walking is all it took. Mad that it took me this long (42yo) to do this. Been a fat cunt my whole life. Also, if you do walking, look into rucking (walking with heavy shit in a backpack). It definitely takes it to the next level.

This is addiction. People are eating to get their daily happiness fix. These people are depressed, sad, broken. Food is their only comfort, only source of happiness. It's always, easily available; especially sugar. Also mental health too plays big role in this. If your mental health is broken you are way much more prone to leave yourself into the comfort of sugar.

Can confirm. I got diagnosed as psychotic by mistake and got on Risperidone to combat "autistic irritability"/rumination, which that had the side effect of shutting up food noise. I went from fighting every second of the day to stay within 1500 kcal to effortlessly restricting below 1000.
Sadly, I had a bigger problem of being seen as not being sound of mind, switched doctors and the treatment was stopped. Now I'm back to feeling like everything I do all day every day is just a distraction from hunger.
>>
>>
Overwhelming anxiety, delusions, regret and frustration make it so difficult to avoid acts of finding comfort in food and stuffing themselves with food until starting to feel numb. They may also recklessly (and obsessively) spend money and have anger issues.

No its not just nostalgia, most chocolate is unironically worse now because chocolate got a lot more expensive and most major bars use fewer cocoa fats per bar than they did 10~20 years ago, instead opting to use vegetable oils or synthetic additives because they're cheaper, so the bar is just as fatty calorie wise but it doesn't have the same volatile flavor compounds found in genuine cocoa fats leading to a bar that's waxy and doesn't taste as chocolatey.
If you want real chocolate you end up buying specialty brands for double or triple the cost of a major bar. Basically if the bar of chocolate is <$10 its probably fake bullshit.

Its a useful tool, but not something to replace regular dieting. You can't fast long term as your entire diet plan. I find its useful to 'reset' if I ever start getting powerful cravings, a fast kills my appetite like nothing else, after the first day or two all my cravings are gone, ect. That said my performance at the gym is also killed when I fast, I recover slower, I feel lethargic, my lifts all stall out or even decrease. Its obviously not ideal.

I've been stuck at ~185 lbs at 5'10. I really don't like how I feel when cutting significant calories at this weight, but I also want to be more visibly muscular. If I just keep eating the same but working out 3-4 days a week, will I eventually look decent at this weight or should I just put up with feeling weaker/more tired until I reach my goal weight (165) and then bulk from there?

I am very strict and disciplined for like couple of months to a year and then i shit myself for couple of days or weeks and then i start over again. By shitting myself i mean in everything work/life/sleep/food i binge 5k+ calories and so on. I am still making progress in the long term but i dunno. I think i should just embrace the fact that my slip ups are normal and try to contain it as much as possible.

i need to work on having a more stable cycle. once the pattern is locked in it will be easier to maintain. like right now i feel like i need a nap and another shower just to get through today.

bruh ur response to some anon going to the doc, getting checked out, and getting their shit fixed is "thats why i take a multi"?? not only is that a waste of money, but youre not "keeping your levels at baseline", thats not how supplememts work. you are merely adding SOME amount of a micronutrient. this often results in users getting too much of a micronutrient, or still too little if they are suffering from something giving them a deficiency. for example, if you have an iron deficiency, a multi will take FOREVER to replenish your levels and WILL NOT fix whatever caused the deficiceny in the first place. and no vitamin will undo the effects of something like sleep apnea, which prolly half of the guys here have.
if you take a multi instead of going to a doc, youre shooting yourself in the foot

If You are willing to try something out of your cultural norms, Look, you could try a simple galeretka. Think of it like a solid soup. Meal prep Greek yogurt mason jars. As much yogurt as you want, flax, chia or hemp hearts, jam (regular or no sugar added). I do it in 8 oz jars with 2% yogurt and it comes out around 200 cal. I make 5 for the week on Sunday nights.
You can also meal prep egg/potato/veggie bites but you’ll need (want) to at least microwave them in the morning
>>
>>77192953
You can go pretty wild on soups. It’ll be difficult to not feel full off 4 cups of good broth (100-200 cal, it can vary a lot), never mind the meat, veggies, noodles, potatoes etc you’d add in. And that is a massive bowl of soup. Make a leek and potato soup with just potato for thickening (no cream) and you’ll have something that feels creamy and indulgent but is only like 300 cal for a bowl. Potatoes are very satiating for the amount of calories.
Dry pop popcorn is also good. If you get the timing right you can get a little seasoning to stick just with the steam from the kernels. Or do something weird like sprinkle hot sauce on top.

Fasting Fun Facts for you:
Fasting for weight loss hits serious diminishing returns as you try and push longer cycles because there are fewer eating days to cut out of any particular month. Shorter fasting cycles also mean you can fit more cycles in the same month, meaning they remain competitive with longer cycles. For example, 120 hour fasting gains 5 cumulative extra days across cycles in a month, but 96 hour fasting gains an additional cycle meaning 4 extra fasting days, leading to only a 1 day difference between the strategies.
Rolling alternate day fasting or 24 hour fasts are equivalent to one of the most severe deficits recommended for daily calorie reduction which is usually no more than half your TDEE. You may as well just ADF, you at least get one full eating day when you do eat.
Rolling 48 hour fasts are likely the sweet spot between difficulty to maintain and rate of weight loss.
There is nearly no reason to go beyond rolling 96 hour fasts due to massive diminishing returns unless you for some inexplicable reason decide to go all in on full month fasts, which are definitely not sustainable.

I fasted for 10 days last month and lost a bunch of weight. Definitely more than twice as much loss compared to when I did a 5 day fast before. Your info is gay and retarded
>>
>>77193599
Failure to account for muscle loss, all food and waste cycled through your system, water weight, and you being retarded with leveling a scale and/or purchasing a shitty scale.
In other words local weight loss is variable for a number of reasons and you need to look at progression over longer terms, months preferably.
>>
>>77193214
> will I eventually look decent at this weight
You won't, eat less fatty.
I see a lot of fatties crash out once they hit 'normal' weights, but its trap, you want to be lean, 12~15% body fat, keep going, you're not there yet. Once you're at 15% bf then you can start thinking about your next steps.

Question about this. In this spreadsheet, if I eat one meal on Monday then don't eat again until Wednesday, is that the first line of these charts (1-1 24 hours) or is it the second like (1-2 48 hours)? Because that's exactly what I'm doing and I'd like to get an idea of how fast I'll lose weight if I can do that for 6 months. Thanks.
>>

Take half and onion, mince until fine, about .5cm pieces. 3-4 cloves of garlic, mince fine as well. Mix that, salt, pepper with beef. Divide beef into 4 equal size balls, shape into patties, onto the pan with .5tbsp butter, sear until desired doneness.
Pickles, tomatos, lettuce have practically no calories. Buns are about 200 cals each, I would skip buns and eat all the meat instead. Goes well with a1 sauce or whatever really.
>>
>>77193855
Really? That's shitty. It doesn't really make sense either because like if you think about it say you eat OMAD Monday at noon. Then you fast and don't eat again until Wednesday at noon. How many hours fasting is that? It sure as shit isn't 24 hours.
>>
>>77193721
Fuck yeah, fishing is enjoyable too. A nice excuse to get out and take a little walk and soak up some sun.
If you don't have gear try and asks friends alor relatives and maybe you can get some free shit, you really don't need much to catch fish just don't get caught up in gear collection lol
>>
>>
>>77193861
You're overthinking it and even more so trying to game it. Over a 24 hour time period your daily calorie requirement is roughly 2k calories if you're an average healthy man.
Assume instead you start eating exactly at Monday's beginning at 12:00am. You eat your daily 2k calories for the day in one meal (or across the day), that's meant to last you the entire 24 hours of Monday. You then don't eat any food come 12:00am Tuesday over the entire day.
Anyway the intention of that fasting chart is more about overall days spent fasting and not trying to maximize fasting time for the sake of saying "I didn't eat for 30 hours straight!!!!" or autophagy or whatever. It's about managing calorie intake over long periods of time.
>>
>>77193881
I get what you mean now yeah. In my example, the calories eaten Monday at noon cover me until Tuesday at noon then from that point I'm fasted and that lasts 24 hours until Wednesday at noon. Damn man this starvation shit is hard no wonder ever fatty fails save for like 5%. Even eating every other day gives less results than I thought. Shit sucks.

FatWicker good progress!
Been following your weigh ins on the FC for a while now as our dimensions are similarly aligned in height, CW, & progress. Interested how you're going about your journey if you wouldn't mind sharing that?
From my side, I'm diet focused doing very low-carb OMAD and if needing to supercharge progress then I'll do some rolling 48hr fasts with an occasional 72hr.
Exercise by walking half hr every morning & then evening, mainly on flat terrain. 100 light arm curl reps, 20 push ups, 50 squats during the day.
Have not yet joined the gym as I'm waiting to hit 220lb so as to have a set benchmark starting point for body recomp, as I have some loose skin to fill.
Not sure of your age but I'm early 50's however not having too much difficulty with losing the weight.
Keep up the great progress mate

i just got off cymbalta bc it was the main reason i gained this weight back. i told my doc i wasn't going toctake anything that had even a moderate weight risk because that defeats the point of even taking this shit in the first place. he prescribed me latuda so we'll see how that goes. i wish adderall suppressed my appetite like it seems to for everyone else.

Thanks man. Im 26, trying to get and stay fit before I hit my 30s and it starts to actually get hard. I eat a high protein diet, around 150-200 grams a day. I minimize carbs/fats just for calorie efficiency. In the beginning couple weeks when I was adjusting i was at a 500-800 cal deficit but i went up to 1k+ once I got used to it.
It usually ends up being OMAD but sometimes I'll have a banana in the morning or before i workout. Right now im at ~1200 calories a day. I walk and go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and lift as heavy as I can. My gym sessions are usually 1 to 2 hours. I aim for ~3x8 sets. I rotate between upper and lower body. As I've lost weight I've incorporated more bodyweight exercises and just hit 4 dips in a row and 4 pullups in a row unassisted.
Its been working fairly well for me, I'm closing in on my goal of 220 as well. I'll probably cut further down to 215 or 210, 220 is just the number I came up with as a goal from using the navy BF% and figuring even its numbers are a bit off that losing 60 lbs was a good goal anyways. I figured the navy method wouldnt be exactly accurate for me anyways because I have unusual body proportions even for my height. I want to cut down until my stomach is as flat as it can be. Loose skin is a bit of an issue in the stomach area but it should tighten up a bit over time. Great work to you as well, I hope the last 10 lbs go quick for you.

>Dieting for almost a year now
>Lost 80lbs
>Always hungry, even after I eat
>Every meal leaves me unsatisfied and wanting more
>Have to pull out all the tricks in the book to not overeat
>Decide to see just how much I need to eat to reach satiety
>After my protein and water I'll just keep having broccoli until I feel satisfied
>not full, not uncomfortable, I could eat more if I tried, but satisfied, as in I had enough, I'm not hungry anymore, and I don't want anymore food right now
>eat 412g chicken breast, and drink 1L of water
>start piling the broccoli on the plate
>3 fucking kgs of broccoli later I start to feel satisfied
>3121g total before my brain sends the "You've had enough" signal
How does one fix this? I don't think I'm ever going to make it if that's how long it takes my brain to get the "stop eating you're full" signal. Like it takes a ton of willpower and effort not to overeat when every meal leaves you wanting more. Does that eventually go away? I mean I've been at it almost a year, a year of always being unsatisfied with my meals, almost a year of eating 300~450g of lean protein and ~500g of green vegetables and drinking obscene amounts of water to fight off the cravings for more calories, that's what I should be eating, that's what should satisfy me, I'll eat my entire day's worth of calories but my brain's like "Nah, we need like 6 times that much. Keep eating." and everyday I have to tell it to fuck off.

Nta but I am also in burgerland. I make my own chicken breast tendies, they're pretty good. I've gotten so good at making them I prefer them over fast food now. But before that it was fried chicken that's my greatest weakness. Second behind culvers. that place is devilish. They got everything from really good cheeseburgers which they put butter on the patties, chili cheese fries, and frozen custard which is just ice cream except more unhealthy than usual.

sounds like it's working. satiety doesn't really come from feeling full. i have the same problem as you. i could eat two or three times as much as a normal person and still feel hungry. i wasn't able to eat smaller portions and feel right until i realized that i wasn't getting enough carbs or fats. it seemed counterintuitive for weight loss because you want to stay under your calorie limit and carbs and oils are the easiest thing to reduce or eliminate.
now, instead of cutting that stuff out completely, i add a bit of oil while cooking, use a bit of butter on my bread, go ahead and put a bit of whole milk in my coffee. now i get the satiety signal long before i feel 'full' and i have forced myself to stop eating at that point, even though i could happily continue. i still screw up constantly, but it helps.

so: i am down 70 pounds give or take, currently low 190s
ive been hardstuck in 190s for nearly 2 months. i refuse to believe ive been anywhere near my tdee on average daily basis. but ill concede. its possible, doing the math, that ive been, in only, a 600~ calorie deficit daily average.. whatever.. possible.. eyeroll sighh..
i really just want to get this shit off of me now quickly fast expeditiously. i want a minimum 3k deficit daily, 20k weekly
now, its possible butttt with my bmr being 1900 minus 500 for uhhm margins of error and such leaves me with having to make up over 1500 calories in tea
nothing waits for me at home so hours of cardio are possible
now, for my questions:
>what cardio should i do?
i incline walk currently. But boring as fuck
>how to make treadmill not boring
i take adderall and caffeine and use my stimulating mobile device but it doesn't seem to be enough hmm
im picking up instant release today thoughbeit that might help better. fingers crossed....
>what should i prioritize in my meals so i don't feel like shit mentally and physically
thinking of spamming chicken and rice but i dont cook im not a girl
really, i just dont want to lose my mind or hurt, physically
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>77195256
Yeah just keep recalculating the tdee/bmr cope and doing more inclined phone walking. ANYTHING to keep dodging those free weights across the room from the treadmills. Be careful, one might sneak its way into your pocket while you're on your phone and make the scale go up 10lbs.
>>
>>77195256
>what cardio should i do?
get a bike or eliptical or something you're not gonna get cardio doing walking forever. get to stage 2 (able to hold conversation while moving). Dont run or you'll explode your knees, running is for the lean dont do it if you're 20% bf or higher.
>how to make treadmill not boring
if you're actually doing stage 2 you wont be bored you will be constantly be thinking about how much cardio sucks, because cardio sucks.
If you're just burning calories then incline walk is good, if you wanna actually build endurance you gotta step it up a little.
>what should i prioritize in my meals so i don't feel like shit mentally and physically
learn to cook and stop whining, it's easy and anyone should learn how to do it. Potatoes are better carbs than rice and you can just microwave them. Use oven recipes for meats because those are brainless. buy salt pepper onion powder garlic powder and whenever you're lazy just season the meat with that before cooking. Raw veggies and fruits good for micros don't buy juice, too calorie dense and just ultimately not good for you.
>>
>>
>>

>>
>>77195305
army guys are very fit mfs that have high standards of fitness and they blow out their knee cartilage all the time from throwing on 30 pounds of crap and running for miles. If you're fat you subject your joints to the same punishment and can permanently damage your knees. Don't run if you're fat. I cannot stress this enough.
>>
>>77195241
you need to lose weight fatass
>>77195242
because if I ate fatty cuts of meat instead of the lean ones one some days I would stop being in a deficit and on most the deficit would be reduced and why would I want that?

would biking or elliptical have any more return on investment? im thinking that the elliptical might but that also seems more exhausting. is it a trade off or is it just better
I stay in that range though i dont think i could keep a conversation, autism aside. it feels a lot harder than it should.
and also i sometimes feel as if im walking incorrectly is that a common issue here? do you have anything to point me to? my pace is usually 27 minutes for a mile, and i cant sustain any faster i dont know why.

I am fucking hilarious, but I concede not as funny as you thinking you can switch from not losing weight in 2 months to a 3k daily deficit without any muscle mass. Any kind of tdee fuckery to get over 3k (or higher to account for whatever you eat) is pure cope, you will never reach that weight loss goal then get depressed and go back to another 2 months of stall/relapse. Time in the gym lifting weights should always be prioritized over inclined walking cardio. It's virtually the same calories burnt, you build muscle which boosts your bmr just by existing, you become stronger, you look better at whatever your goal weight or bf% is.
You are literally complaining about how boring inclined walking on your phone is. Why not try out a gym routine in that time instead? You can do all kinds of different exercises, while still being able to fuck around on your phone between sets.
>>
>>77195358
>would biking or elliptical have any more return on investment?
the reason I recommended it is because if you want to do serious endurance training it's gonna be better for you than running. If you just meant burning calories then just walk, fuck cardio. If walking is as hard as you say just stick to walking.
>and also i sometimes feel as if im walking incorrectly is that a common issue here?

I’m on Wegovy, and until I hit the 1.7mg dosage I didn’t feel anything. Weight loss has been meh. Maybe like 10lb over 3 months. I did start lifting and eating high protein though so the recomp has been nice, and probably explains the slow weight loss. Minimal side effects for me.
>>
>>77195388
no it was a slow burn 10 pounds over ~1.5 months tbf
>It's virtually the same calories
no way that is true. how would i get over 500 calories lifting ? Let alone double or triple that
>you build muscle which boosts your bmr just by existing
about that, is it growing muscle or having muscle? growing cant be that much and having mass cant either, can it? how much is a pound of muscle every fortnight burning, really
i do lift. usually and mostly just arms and shoulders and back as my legs are fat enough. once a week to keep my leg prs is fine i want to lose some of the mass.
i cant do crazy compound shit like deadlifts because i dont have the energy for it so it would set me back in calories more than i imagine it burns

Walk around outside, unless you live in a ghetto it's much better. You can just decide to keep walking if you're not satisfied. If you do live in a ghetto and HAVE to do indoors carido try finding something to distract you from the cardio, like watching tv or something.

My fucking legs have 0 stability now and maybe an ambient pain of 3/10 when i move around.
