>News & Rumors
Price rises for memory, storage, and GPUs expected to continue
PSU and CPU cooler prices may rise up to 10% soon
OLED monitors with RGB-stripe subpixel layout are being released this year
>Omissions
OLED monitors: Buy a well-reviewed (owner feedback included) OLED at a discount; panels with true RGB subpixels will replace current offerings in the next 2~3 years.
Not worth paying full price for a WOLED or 3rd/4th gen QD-OLED.

How do I pull the wire out without detaching it from the pin/breaking it?
And what do you mean soldering is "botch"? Like its easy to botch? it's more complicated than it needs to be? It can't carry current for some reason? etc.
on an unrelated note, I'm getting real damn tired of selecting the picture with exactly 2 stars with 5 points. The other challenges are fine. I hate the stars for some reason.
Also I got an 8 pin female to 2x 8 pin male CPU power cable, and figure I can basically just use one of the male ends to plug into the GPU.
Another thing, the 6 pin cables I'm using dont have the bottom middle wire, so I'll actually plan on using 3 6-pin connectors (I would use 4 but one of them is already being used to power the mobo) and I'm assuming that as long as I connect 4 12V wires together even if it's only connected to 3 pins it probably won't be the end of the world, right?

Is the Deepcool FH-10 compatible somehow with the 3-speed fan controllers on cases? I can only hook up 3 DC fans in my case. I don't know if I can use a splitter or just route it to this fan hub to get more fans to control through the button somehow.

AMD missed their timing, not enough customers want MI300 GPUs, the likes of OpenAI are waiting™ for the 400s.
Plus, NVIDIA plays hardball. If they catch you buying AMD, they’ll bump you down to the bottom of their waiting list.

>>
>>

Nvidia unironically and eternally wonned.
It turns out that games were running RT denoisers in their own engine's implementations before handing it off to DLSS, and that's what was causing all the extra noise and bubbling from using the latest presets L and M. Turning off these denoisers allows DLSS to do the job by itself and it is far superior to the original. Games are holding back the power of DLSS now by pure innocent mistake.

Take it out, secure it against a table and pre-drill it as straight down as possible. If its too tight far beyond having just enough for the screw threads to bite into then you just have to widen the hole, that is the only thing you can do.

I've had an idea. Since all beefy GPUs these days have at LEAST 2 slot cooling solutions, let's stop being cowards and make them 2 slot cards. Like *literally* plug into 2 different PCIe slots at once. At the absolute minimum, you get more stability, and probably another 75 watts of power supply.
Now I know that PCIe doesn't work like that but maybe with some custom software/firmware on the card you might be able to increase bandwidth. Said software will probably be "there's no way in hell this is actually gonna work" but it actually does tier, and almost certainly will end up being one of those "really cool ideas in theory but it never really catches on and gets deprecated eventually" like SLI.
As an alternative to that outcome, rather than try to use it to increase bandwidth to your beefy GPU, why not put a second, much lower power GPU on the card and have that one use the second PCIe connector (could even make it not use a full 16 lanes for better mechanical compatibility) You could use that small GPU to handle physX or all the other various background things that your dedicated GPU does to free up the primary just a little bit more, or even just have it as a second compute device for whatever.
>inb4 thats gonna be so expensive because you're gonna have to have a second GPU die and all the vram to go with it and even weak GPUs and vram on the bleeding edge are expensive!
I have a solution for that too! Make the secondary GPU on an older fab/design process. Hell, you can literally just start making the same GPUs you made in 2012-2015 on the same fabs and then bolt them onto your much more modern card. It will run older and less demanding shit just fine still.
As an added bonus, you can use some of the single slot cooling solution space for your weak GPU as extra cooling for your main GPU. Just add a heat pipe or two that run under the bottom of the card and into a heatsink behind the weak GPU's existing one.

The most insane thing is the denoiser being straight up several times better than in-game lumen one, not only disabling it increases FPS but it means that the anon that said that nvidia was working on combining both DLSS with denoiser so RR would not tank fps was right, basically i went to test some UE5 games with special K and not only the shimmering and boiling is gone but i gained over 10-15 fps on average from the denoiser being turned off, now the only thing that annoys me is not only did Alex did not show that turning off the denoising increased performance but for some reason decided to test on a 3070

I really don't understand why anybody needs more than 60fps with ~1920x1080 pixel density. Like I enjoy having a slightly taller display so I can understand aspect ratio changes, but ultra high res displays just look the same for the most part. I can MAYBE understand playing stuff at 90fps, So really why go above 120 hz or MAYBE 180 hz?
>>
>>
>>108060836
you put a monitor in front of you and its just what it is, you get used to it
then if you put a lower res monitor next to it then you notice it looks bad
same with hz, play cs2 for 100h at 500hz and go to 240hz and you'd be able to tell shit sucks, it feels wrong

>>108060859
doesn't monitor refresh rate (hz) just set the upper limit on how many frames your monitor can actually display per second? Like if you can render 300 fps but you only have a 60 hz monitor, you can only actually meaningfully utilize 60fps of your 300 right? So then in order to tell the difference between 240 and 500 hz, you'd have to be able to render something on the same order of ~240+ to 500 fps right? Or is there some separate advantage for refresh rate alone?
>>

Rate my countries GPU's market boys.
If it isn't on the table it might as well not exist, most AMD gpus are similarly priced so I didn't bother to include them since they are rares(somehow) and aren't cheaper like in the states. I do wish Intel's would be here.
Honestly I don't want to spend more than $650 MSRP but here most good gpus get almost +30% price increase. I really fucking hate it. The used market is worse with fags selling 8g at $650, I do not know why for used shit/prolly mined but I guess "I know what I got" is an universal mentality.

Don't have the pump run at 100% PWM ~2,800 rpm! It's unnecessary.
You can safely throttle it to ~2,000-2,100 rpm. picrel
Also throttle the VRM fan or adjust the fan curve to the CPU usage. "CPU2" in picrel.
My ALF3 420 AIO is near inaudible when the 9950X3D is idle with picrel rpm of all fans and pump.

1. Are vertical risers still the best for long term longevity of GPUs? My case has vertical slots, I just need to buy a PCB right angle adapter and cable.
2. How do I do PBO with negative CO? 9800X3D + MSI 870E. I'm open to reading multiple guides. I want to firmly control and prevent any issues for my CPU but also aim to get lower terms.
My air cooler is getting me 40C at idle at 40% fan speed which is basically silent - did I do well for my first AMD build?
I can post pics of you want to be bribed. I just need to put on my sides of my case and do a quick memtest later this week. My work is slammed.

I'm in France, a country that will gladly sacrifice itself on the altar of Globohomo but where every citizen will fuck his next in kin for a few more shekels. It's the same bullshit here with people trying to sell used 4070 for more than a brand new 5070 etc. It's ridiculous and I wish there was a laughing emoji on these websites so we could all leave them a message that they somehow miss by not concluding any sell... just as the other 20 sellers before them.

Also the brown things are silicone mounts, much better than screws, best $20 I spent, they make fans not hum or vibrate the case

hello /g/. this is my current build:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VJGJ7w
i'm interested in getting an arc b580 to use as my primary gpu so i can then use my r9 390 to run lossless scaling off of. few questions then:
1) would that give any performance uplift?
2) if so, would my current psu provide enough power for a b580 on top of all the other components?
3) if not, how high should the wattage of a psu be in this case?
any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks for reading!

>best thing you can do is keep what u got until that shit breaks cause idk why people keep feeding into all this trash.
be glad this is even an option. You were spending like $1500 in 90's money to get a pc that became e-waste 2 years later. For reference $1500 in 90's money is a fucking LOT more than you'd spend now even on a fully decked out 5090 pc that will stay usable in computing performance for nearly a decade.
Things are actually so good right now, and people are too spoiled by pc building during ZIRP (circa 2009-2020) to realize it.
People are just too damn young. Things will get a lot "worse" than they are right now, and still be way better than it used to be during the ghz race.
>>
>>108061682
>that will be 5 intake fans
who cares, why do people think this needs to be 1:1? Even if the intake fans overpressurize the case by some miracle (it cant happen, too many holes), all that would do is increase the discharge fans volumetric flow per revolution.
But with it direcly above your cpu fan it sucks up cold air not yet drawn through a fin stack

Fucking finally... after a long day of back breaking labor I can put behind 7+ years of hell and actually be proud of a system I have put together. I fucking kneel to the mechanical design of these be quiet! cases for handling my storage autism and granting me actual cable management.
God, I'm so fucking happy right now I don't even care if it will be a hotbox. An actual cleanly cable managed computer with this many SATA devices, and it is the one that has no window, lmao.
Also, very charitable of them to have a built in anti-GPU sag bonus to the PCIE bracket design. The tooling on this case is fucking excellent, the thumbscrew solutions are great, the side panel goes on with no issues, straps work great and I don't have to permanently zip tie every cable, and the space actually bears in mind full ATX support, this is the roomiest mid tower I've ever owned. It actually made me enjoy building again, makes the system actually look fresh, just by upgrading the cooler and the case. It's almost perfect for me.

If you build it right not really, but most people flush it once a year or two.

I should toast this completed build by finally using my stockpile of stickers that I wanted to use for my system in 2015-2019 but never applied. I'm thinking using the G.Skill, Seasonic Focus, the NVIDIA GTX wide since they are technically accurate, and some of the silver stickers to match the case front. Or the old Sempron sticker for the memes. Been saving that one for a special occasion.

why does it have it then smartass? frame gen is specifically meant for when you already have a high enough framerate above 60fps to get closer to high refresh rate displays native refresh rate, it really wasn't meant for poorfags to triple their fps from 20 to 60 even though that's what it's mainly being used for

You want to avoid an overwhelmingly positive pressure because it impact your airflow and the air inside of the case have enough time to warm up before being cleared out. You're supposed to aim for a slightly positive airflow so the air comes and goes chasing heat instead of building some.

The goal of case fans is to create a pressure difference between the outside and inside of the case, forcing ambient air into it. The internal fans then blow that air onto the coolers for the CPU and GPU. If you don't have any case fans the inside of the case will start heating up, making it harder to cool your stuff.

>>
>>108062783
Yeah see that makes actual sense and you absolutely need case fans for that. Ideally the botton fans blow into the case and the top fans blow out of the case. This helps hot air escape out the top. Without fans that case would turn toasty real quick.

Are there any cases with good preinstalled 140+mm fans? (and as a bonus, can fit a 360mm radiator up top?)
I've literally bought and returned two cases so far because the preinstalled fans were dogshit.
Currently looking at the Fractal cases that include their Momentum fans which are supposed to be very good, and the HAVN BF 360 Flow although I have read posts complaining that the big 180mm fans make a bad humming noise, it's also fucking $230 in my country.
Also considering the Lancool 217 but I've also read complaints about the 170mm fans making bad noises.
I just want a nice and quiet case that I won't have to spend an additional $100 for fans that aren't ewaste.

Not as many as I would like, long GPU made connecting the SATA power cables a very difficult puzzle as usual since I couldn't just pine them up on one cable like on classic chassis. Thankfully there is room so it isn't Newey-tier packaging. Unfortunately I stuck a 2.5" HDD instead of an SSD in the uppermost cage, luckily 2.5" SSDs can be forgiving so you can just stash them anywhere unscrewed though it isnt elegant which still annoys me. 5 drives for now ignoring NVME, 2 ODDs.

I am pissed though that one top screw at the top of the case used to mount radiators when I removed it is slightly stripped.
I'm going to guilt trip their support to send me a new case or just the main chassis or I'll put a 1 star review on Newegg
Also, the "dicks" are all those Noctua silicone mounts, the PC is whisper quiet, zero humming due to the silicone preventing sympathetic vibration into the chassis
I technically can "cut" them but that means I'll have to toss them once I take them out
I'm waiting to cut until everything is polished

big 4k for movies and shows
high refresh for video games
>why
because it's ultimately about clarity. video games involve a lot of motion, so you need a high refresh rate to maintain clarity.
movies and shoes are running at 23/30/60 fps, so refresh rate doesn't really matter in that way. they run slow, so they benefit from more pixels to make them clearer.

If you're a budget gamer, you probably don't have a video card good enough for 4K gaming.
4K gaming starts at around 3080/4070/5070.
The 4K monitor probably has worse response times.
But 4K monitor is better for media + old games, especially if you want to add CRT scanline filters to pixel games.

high refresh rate serves zero purpose with videos. you will literally see no difference beyond your mouse cursor/scrolling websites/moving around in video games looking more lifelike. in fact, 1440p will be even worse for video because nothing is encoded at that arbitrary resolution.
high resolution will give you some extra screen real estate if the screen size is large enough, otherwise if you're going 200% scaling it will just make everything like text slightly sharper, but it will also require more resources to drive any video games at the full resolution. in any video though, everything looks much clearer and real as you're literally seeing more data, and 4k is everywhere now.

>Which one reaches a compromise here
if both of them are budget ips absolutely get the highest refresh one
reason being the difference between ips vs oled is just as large as 1080p vs 4k for media
4k ips is stupid, you're halfassing it and missing out big
if you're in a hurry get the budget high refresh one now and then save until you can afford oled 4k
1440p is not ideal for media natively, but upscalers are so good nowadays that you should be able to make movies look even better than they would on 1080p

That right is image isn't a CRT shader, it's from a real CRT TV.

>The Steam Hardware announcement from Valve states that due to memory and storage shortages, final pricing and launch dates for the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller are delayed, with more updates to follow on their blog.

if my case has a front mount psu, should I face the fan inward or outward? and would my CPU fans need to match the direction?
the only cases I've used had the psu at the top with the fan facing down because there was no opening above it, and the CPU fans directing air towards the back

The case manual might include a recommendation; I'd probably set the PSU fans to face outward.

AMD's just fine; the processors in the Steam Machine are low-margin products.
Losing a year of PS6 and Xbox revenue isn't a disaster either, it might even help the PS6 have a smoother launch wrt available supplies if the hardware price doesn't turn people away.
